Dr. Carlos Mainini's tenure (1936–42) was marked by a notable expansion of the group's academic activities, including the establishment of the societies of orthopedic surgery, endocrinology, nutrition science, and mental health, as well as the Argentine Society of Medical History. Canadian members are certified in plastic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Fran is a girl created by Dr. Naomitsu Madaraki, the world's most famous surgeon. Originally intended to be his assistant, she has taken over his work and home while he is away. Her life is rather uneventful besides scientific research work until various medical cases begin falling into her lap, ranging from resurrection to aesthetic surgery. There is a fair amount of dark humor with nearly each story ending with Fran having created some sort of gruesome monstrosity or misfortune of and upon her patients, though usually she is seemingly content with the results due to her extreme life-preserving mindset.

In 2012, Stanek conducted a study with fellow surgeon Mike Berry into the French- made PIP breast implants. Their report to the Journal of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery revealed that, in an audit of 453 patients, between 16% and 34% of the PIP implants ruptured. The study Aesthetic Labia Minora and Clitoral Hood Reduction using Extended Central Wedge Resection (2008) reported that of a 407-woman cohort, 98 per cent were satisfied with the labial reduction outcomes; that the average patient satisfaction score was 9.2 points on a 10-point scale; that 95 per cent of the women experienced reduced pudendal discomfort; that 93 per cent of the women experienced improved self esteem; that 71 per cent experienced improved sexual functioning; that 0.6 per cent (one woman) reported lessened sexual functioning; and that 4.4 per cent of the women experienced medical complications.
