Initial reactions to acquiring sudden wealth vary depending on the individual’s background and financial circumstances. A combination of shock and uncertainty can cause a person to resort to self-destructive coping mechanisms, such as making risky investments and/or promises to friends or family, and excessive spending. Both shock and uncertainty endure past a momentary emotion, and can become continuing adversities throughout the duration of Sudden Wealth Syndrome. Shock is a common response to the unexpected news of receiving a large influx of money and can cause one to feel paralysed. This can lead to many challenges, including the inability to decide how to spend one’s money.

Ms. Hammurabi () is a 2018 South Korean television series written by Moon Yoo- seok, the chief judge of Seoul Eastern District Court, and starring Go Ara, Kim Myung-soo and Sung Dong-il. It is based on the screenwriter's own novel of the same name, which was first serialized in 2015 on The Hankyoreh and was later published in paperback form in 2016 by Munhakdongne Publishing Group. It aired on JTBC's Mondays and Tuesdays at 23:00 (KST) time slot from May 21 to July 16, 2018 for 16 episodes. In 1988, N.W.A's landmark album Straight Outta Compton was released. The Montford Point Marine Association (MPMA) is a nonprofit military veterans' organization, founded to memorialize the legacy of the first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps. The first African American U.S. Marines were trained at Camp Montford Point, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, from 1942 to 1949. Some years later more Mennonites immigrants arrived to the Chaco area from Germany and Russia and founded the Fernheim (1930) and Neuland (1947) colonies. At the beginning, these pioneers had to overcome many adversities. In childhood Datta showed inclination to worship Krishna. His religious fervour was accentuated by his visits to a hermitage near his home when he interacted with monks of different orders. He was a vegetarian and had strict resolution of not to eat any non-vegetarian food; this resolve went to the extreme extent when he even walked out of a relative's house when he was 10 years old where they had cooked a non-vegetarian meal and were forcing him to eat it. Huntsman is known in Utah for her dedication to children's issues and her passion for getting others involved. While serving as Utah's First Lady, Huntsman built on her experience with Bag of Hope, and started a program called Power in You, aimed at helping youth who had to deal with a variety of adversities. Power in You aims to give teens hope by providing them with inspirational stories from young adults and life improvement by directing them to numerous professional resources that will provide them with support for their challenges. In 1997, Huntsman and her daughter Liddy, who at age eight was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, initiated the Bag of Hope program in Salt Lake City to help children and their families cope with juvenile diabetes.

Buhay OFW (English translation: Life of an OFW) is a weekly public service program aired on 5 Plus catered for the Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs based in different countries outside the Philippines. The program also featured government and non-government organizations who are charged in taking care the concerns of OFWs such as labor and recruitment issues. Buhay OFW also highlighted untold and successful stories of OFWs who are survived from adversities and sufferings while working outside the country but have also given inspiration to their fellow Kababayans. The program also successfully organized several projects for the OFW community such as the Mr. and Ms. Citizens of the World, which was launched In 2012, in time for the program's 1st anniversary.

However, Coplan implies that it may not have been met with such friendly ears from everyone, but urban Africans managed to look upon kwela as an authentic expression of their urban culture rather than an indolent pastime of juvenile delinquents. Kwela was even regarded as the new, close-harmony township style based on marabi or on the songs of migrant workers. Much like marabi, kwela became popular despite the adversities that it faced. Along with the music, young urban Africans also participated in dancing to kwela music, which entailed a sexually suggestive form of jive dancing where dancers shouted the word “kwela” periodically. The meaning of the word kwela is actually Zulu for “‘climb on’ or ‘get up,’” which is indicative for others to join the upbeat nature of the music.

Although definitions of resilience may vary across cultures due to different standards for defining competence, across contexts, resilience is associated with processes of self-regulation and with secure attachment relationships. In a longitudinal study of 205 children from an urban community who were followed for ten years, Masten and her colleagues used multiple methods to examine children’s growth in competence, the adversities they faced, and the psychosocial resources each child had available to them, such as optimism, coping skills, a sense of mastery or personal control, and social support. Children who were higher functioning intellectually and experienced higher quality parenting had better academic outcomes, conduct, and peer social competence, even when faced with extreme adversity. In work with Karin Best and Norman Garmezy, Masten emphasizes that human psychological development is buffered which allows children to adapt when faced with challenging or threatening circumstances.

When the German invasion (Blitzkrieg) commenced in May 1940, No 85 Squadron found itself locked in a bitter contest with the Luftwaffe, and with attacks on its aerodromes commonplace there was no respite from operations. In an eleven-day period the squadron accounted for a confirmed total of 90 enemy aircraft; there were many more claims that could not be substantiated. The final sorties saw the squadron giving fighter cover to the Allied armies until its airfields were overrun and the three remaining aircraft returned to the UK. During the intense battles over France, the squadron lost seventeen pilots; two killed, six wounded and nine missing, this figure included their new CO Squadron Leader Peacock but had once again had acquitted itself well in the face of many adversities. The squadron re-equipped and resumed full operations early in June 1940.

Cape Coloured school children of South Africa The Cape Coloured population descend from Indigenous Khoisan and Xhosa peoples; European immigrants and Malagasy, Ceylonese and Southeast Asian (primarily Indonesian) laborers and slaves brought by the Dutch from the mid-17th century to the late 18th century. The majority of Coloureds, particularly in the Western Cape and Northern Cape, speak Afrikaans as a first language, while those in other parts of South Africa tend to speak English as well. Coloureds with Javanese or other Indonesian ancestry may often be regarded as Cape Malay and are primarily Muslims, while the majority of Coloureds are Christian (generally Protestant) or agnostic. Due to similar social adversities experienced under the Apartheid regime from the late 1940s to the late 1980s, Coloured and Indigenous South African communities generally fall under the black social category when it comes to employment and affirmative action policies.

Lai Chi Wai () is a rock climber, sport climber, and motivational speaker from Hong Kong. He is a four-time champion of the Asian Rock Climbing Championships and the world’s first Chinese winner of the X-Game’s extreme sports. In 2011, he got into a serious traffic accident that left him paraplegic. On December 9, 2016, upon the 5th anniversary of the car accident, Lai climbed up Lion Rock in a wheelchair, and became the first Chinese athlete to be nominated for the Laureus World’s Best Sporting Moment of the month, which he lost to a viral video which showed a packed sports stadium of 70,000 people in Iowa turning and waving to children in an adjacent hospital. Netizens, touched by Lai’s achievement, said he embodied the “spirit of Lion Rock”, which has come to symbolize Hong Kong’s can-do spirit in the midst of adversities.

In 2013 and 2014, after suffering more than six years of extreme health adversities: two heart attacks, a stroke, a paralyzed left arm, a diagnosis of hydrocephalus (NPH) two brain surgeries, a pacemaker and more, Wagner's guitar playing facilities had returned, and he fully resumed performing, touring with the Dick Wagner Band, writing songs and producing music. Modernism, one phenomenon which includes the relocation of youth from villages to more developed urban cities, is seen in negative light by the fascist government because it is creating a sub-type of Italian masculinity that is more adept in living within metropolitan areas, taking on less responsibilities suggested by the regime (as indicative of hegemonic masculinity). In other words, the Italian youth are no longer working in the farmlands cultivating the soil, but are instead, "de-masculinizing" themselves in the light of the fascist government and rendering the entire Italian country less fertile. Metaphorically, this means that they are cultivating less of their hegemonic masculinity that they should be embracing, and physically, they are contributing less to the state because those that move into the city usually have less children and marry less frequently, the regime argued. In addition, the safe environment of the metropolis prevents the New Italian (male) from enjoying his contact with nature, and has prevented him from contemplating deeply about the moral challenges, none of which are brought upon to him as a result of the artificial, "materialistic" metropolitan atmosphere that is void of dangers and adversities.

Chilldrin of da Ghetto also known as C.O.G was one of the first gangsta rap groups in the nineties that produced what is known to be Drill music to Chicago hip hop as a separate entity. C.O.G was based on life and adversities on Chicago's West Side, a notoriously rough area which had gained a reputation for gang violence and drugs, which had a similar beat to it like fameous rappers and rap groups like N.W.A, the trio rap group had gained the likes from rappers like Mack 10, Soultre, MC Eiht, Juvenile, and B.G.. The group became big that two of their singles "It's Time to Roll" and "Drug Lord" were originally heard in the 1999 film Thicker than Water and were also released on the film's soundtrack. The album spawned two singles: "Wild Side" and "Luv at First Sight", the latter peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop Songs and at number 6 on the Billboard Rap Songs. AKB is a movement composed of individuals who are either residents of the Bicol Region, born of Bicolano parents, have resided in Bicol or simply interested in the promotion of the welfare and interests of the region and its people, collectively known as “Bicolanos,” with the aim to unite Bicolanos to work in the development of the Bicol Region through programs and projects that will combat poverty, provide adequate social services, promote full employment, guarantee social justice and full respect for human rights, recognize the sanctity of human life, improve delivery of health services, democratize access to education and training, protect the environment, enhance disaster preparedness and advance the participation of youth, women, gays and lesbians and physically challenged individuals as well senior citizens in nation building. AKB also endeavors to instill confidence and foster patriotism among Bicolanos through the promotion of Bicol history, arts and culture, appreciation of the role of Bicolano heroes, national figures and other role models in the historical and cultural development of the region and strengthening the inherent resiliency of Bicolanos amidst adversities but at the same time, minimizing and if not totally eradicating, perceived attitudes and values which tend to hamper progress and development.

During 10 years, Dreisewerd struggled in the minor leagues through the adversities and disappointments of baseball's contract system before attaining major league status. At the end of 1937, he decided to write a letter to the Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis. In this letter, Dreisewerd complained about the manner in which he had been moved around to other organizations while under contract with the New York Giants. On New Year's Day of 1938, Commissioner Landis granted him free agency. In 1944, while pitching for Sacramento, Dreisewerd turned things around recording 20 wins and a 1.61 ERA, the lowest of the Pacific Coast League pitchers. Finally, he reached the majors late in the season with the Boston Red Sox, ending with a 2–4 mark in seven starts. After appearing in only two games in 1945, he was recruited by the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II. While in the Navy, he pitched for a team that included major leaguers as Mickey Owen, Jim Konstanty and Eddie Yost. He was discharged in time for the start of the 1946 season with Boston. Dreisewerd enjoyed his most productive season with the 1946 American League champion Red Sox, going 4–1 in 20 games pitched in relief, except for one start.
