The library is a 24,893 square feet two-story building. The upper level of the library houses adult materials, computers, the Florida collection, a circulation desk, and the Director's office. The children's and young-adult materials and multi-purpose room, called the Obert room, are on the main floor.

Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) is a bimonthly magazine that provides book reviews and information for librarians with a focus on young adult materials.

The two-story building houses adult materials upstairs, including fiction and non-fiction, periodicals, DVDs, VHS cassettes, CDs, and Audiobooks on CD and cassette. Also located upstairs are ten, public-access internet computers (managed by reservation), three online catalogs, and black/white printing and copying capabilities. Downstairs, the library houses youth materials, including a variety similar to the adult materials. The youth department hosts five filtered internet computers and three online catalogs.

Each approved image is added to the searchable online database, where it can be found by purchasers. Files can be downloaded immediately, and used in almost anything. The basic license agreement prohibits some uses, such as web templates, print on demand, adult materials, etc. Print runs over 500,000 must pay additional royalties.

From 1949-54, subway construction crews dug tunnels underneath Yonge Street, closing portions of the street as work progressed and blocking pedestrian and vehicle access. These interruptions, combined with the relocation of many Toronto residents from downtown to suburban communities following World War II, meant that Yonge Street businesses saw a decline in customer traffic. The post-war period saw a shift from traditional clothing and housewares retailers on Yonge Street towards live music and adult entertainment establishments, capitalizing on the availability of space, transit-accessible location, proximity of Toronto’s existing nightlife and entertainment venues, and the relaxation of obscenity laws in Canada during the 1960s. “Taverns became strip clubs, bookstores branched into adult materials, and entrepreneurs opened erotic massage parlours,” giving Yonge Street a seedy reputation amongst Torontonians.
