After the 1986 People Power Revolution, Malanyaon was appointed by the revolutionary government as an ad interim member of Davao City's Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council) until November 1987. Charles Franklin Dunbar (born 1937) was an American Career Foreign Service Officer who served in several capacities including Chargé d’Affaires ad interim (Afghanistan) (January 1982 – May 1983), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar (October 7, 1983 – March 23, 1985), and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Yemen (June 16, 1988 – June 13, 1991).

Marilyn Ann Meyers (born 1942) is a former American diplomat. She served as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Burma from September 1994 to October 1996. Meyers grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She completed her undergraduate degree at Southwestern at Memphis (now called Rhodes College) in 1964 with a BA with honors in international studies.

Lukens was born on December 25, 1963 in Paris, France. His father, Alan Wood Lukens, was US Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to the Republic of the Congo. Lukens attended Princeton University, where he was awarded an AB degree in history. He received a master's degree from Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

Joaquín Velázquez de León (16 March 1803 – 8 February 1882) was a 19th-century conservative politician of Mexico who served as the founding Minister of Colonization, Industry and Commerce (1853–1855) in the cabinet of Antonio López de Santa Anna, as minister of State of Emperor Maximilian of Mexico (1864–1866) and as chargé d'affaires (ad interim) of Mexico to the United States (1842).

Baron Charles Jean Maurice Lemonnier (12 January 1860 – 11 September 1930) was a Belgian liberal politician and burgomaster of Brussels. Charles Lemonnier was a lawyer, mining engineer and as a politician he was alderman ad-interim burgomaster of Brussels. He was also a member of parliament. During World War I he took over as burgomaster of Brussels, while Adolphe Max was held in captivity by the Germans.

On orders of Santa Anna after the burning of Harrisburg, Almonte went in pursuit of the ad interim government at New Washington. During their flight the Republic officials switched from steamer to ferry to skiff. In a government decree on 6 October, Soeprijadi, a hero of the Blitar rebellion against the occupying Japanese, was officially appointed Defense Minister. However, as no news was ever heard of him, on 20 October Muhammad Soeljoadikusuma was appointed ad interim Defense Minister. Attorney General Gatot Tarunamihardja resigned on 24 October.

South Yemen The United States recognized the People's Republic of South Yemen in 1967 and moved to establish diplomatic relations. A U.S. embassy in Aden was established on December 7, 1967, with William L. Eagleton, Jr., as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim. In June 1969, a radical Marxist wing of NLF gained power. The new regime severed diplomatic relations with the United States on October 24, 1969.

They left Brussels between 19 and 20 July. Both were replaced ad interim with Joseph Count Murray de Melgum, commander-in-chief of the Austrian army in the Austrian Netherlands. Following an invitation of the emperor, a delegation of the Provincial States of Brabant travelled to Vienna to meet the Emperor. William Edwin Ryerson (1936-), a Career Foreign Service Officer served as the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Albania from 1991 until 1994. After a 52-year break, diplomatic relations between the United States and Albania were re-established on March 15, 1991. The U.S. Embassy in Tirana opened October 1, 1991. Christopher Hill as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim until Ryerson presented his credentials on December 21, 1991.

Jennifer Leigh Brush (born 1956) is a retired American Career Foreign Service Officer who served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Turkmenistan from July 2006 until July 2007. Another State Department source says “Term of Appointment: 08/01/2006 to 10/30/2007” Brush also served with Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and U.N. Peacekeeping. She retired in 2014 and unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Solon, Ohio in 2017.

Groube conveyed Lord George Walpole to St. Petersburg where Walpole served as Secretary at the Embassy and minister ad interim (ie "for the meantime"). Calypso participated at the siege of Danzig in 1813, which led to his promotion to post-captain on 7 June 1814.The United service magazine, Volume 1863, Issue 2, p.480. Some accounts put Groube in Calypso at Faial in the Azores in late September.

Boston, MA. May 6, 2006. A settlement was eventually reached between the University and Goldin, the details of which were never released but which sources have indicated included a $1.8 million payment to Goldin, in exchange for his abandoning any claims he may have had against BU. Aram Chobanian, Dean of Boston University School of Medicine, was named President Ad interim until a new president could be found.

In June 1992, the Slovak parliament voted to declare sovereignty and the Czech-Slovak federation dissolved peacefully on January 1, 1993. The United States recognized the Slovak Republic as an independent state and established diplomatic relations with it on January 1, 1993. The embassy in Bratislava was established January 4, 1993, with Paul Hacker as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim. He was replaced by Eleanor Sutter on July 7, 1993.

Horst served as the Deputy Economic Counselor in Kyiv, Ukraine. She led the interagency task forces of the United States' embassy in Ukraine during the annexation of Crimea by Russia and the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. On July 29, 2018, she replaced James D. Melville Jr. as the United States' Chargé d'affaires ad interim to Estonia. She served until her replacement by Brian R. Roraff on August 2, 2019.

Bahrain, however, did not join the federation, but declared its independence on August 15, 1971. The United States recognized the State of Bahrain on the same day and moved to establish diplomatic relations. The U.S. Embassy in Manama was opened on September 21, 1971, with John N. Gatch, Jr. as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim. Ambassador William A. Stoltzfus, Jr. presented his credentials to the government of Bahrain on February 17, 1972.

President John Tyler appointed him Attorney General of the United States on July 1, 1843, which he served until the end of the Tyler administration. He also served as United States Secretary of State ad interim for about a month in 1844 after the sudden death of the previous Secretary of State Abel P. Upshur. After the end of the Tyler administration, Nelson retired from public life and returned to Baltimore.

Regina Paz "Gina" La'O Lopez (December 27, 1953 – August 19, 2019) was a Filipino environmentalist and philanthropist who served as Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in an ad interim basis under President Rodrigo Duterte. She was previously the Chairperson of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission under two consecutive administrations. Lopez was also a yoga missionary and a pioneer for corporate social responsibility.

It was not long before the Ministry sent him on another posting - this time as the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim in the Embassy of Malaysia in Zagreb, Croatia. He returned three years later, in 2000, to become the Principal Assistant Secretary at the Division of South East Asia. The following year, Ramlan was appointed as Deputy High Commissioner to Singapore. His first posting as Ambassador was to Bosnia Herzegovina, in 2004.

Arthur Ruysschaert is the only player who is in the top 10 most appearances ever as well as in the top 10 most goals ever for Cercle Brugge. He ended his career with Belgian coast side VG Oostende. After his footballing career, Ruysschaert became youth coach at Cercle Brugge. He also became ad interim manager of Cercle during the 1953–54 season because of the suspension of Louis Versyp.

Ints M. Siliņš (25 March 1942) is a Latvian-American retired Career Foreign Service Officer who served first as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Latvia beginning service October 2, 1991 and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Latvia until July 14, 1995. His family emigrated to the United States in July 1949, settling in Maryland. He attended The Hill School on scholarship, graduating in 1960. He went on to graduate from Princeton University in 1965.

He was chargés d'affaires ad interim to Switzerland from June 1922 to the closing of the Lithuanian mission in August 1923. He then moved to Paris to study law at the University of Paris. He returned to Lithuania in 1926 and as a member of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party was elected to the Third Seimas (parliament). He became editor of the daily ' newspaper (1927–1928) and director of ELTA, Lithuanian news agency (1928–1934).

In this office, he was also responsible for the Dutch gold mining enterprise in Dabokrom. In June 1851, Runckel returned to the Netherlands on leave, to recover from illness. When he returned to the coast in August, he was appointed to the offices of bookkeeper, public prosecutor, government secretary and cashier, which made him second in command. After governor Hero Schomerus died in office on 25 September 1856, Runckel became governor ad interim.

The U.S. has had consular representation in Algeria intermittently since 1796. On September 29, 1962, diplomatic relations between Algeria and the United States were formally established when the U.S. Consulate General in Algiers was raised to embassy status. William J. Porter was appointed as the first chargé d'affaires ad interim pending appointment of an ambassador to Algiers.

In April 2018, Rosenstein reportedly personally approved the FBI raid on President Trump's attorney, Michael Cohen, in which the FBI seized emails, tax documents, and records, some of them related to Cohen's payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels. After ad interim U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman had recused himself, the search was executed by others in the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and approved by a federal judge.

In 1805, when Archduke Charles left to take command in Italy, Bellegarde became president ad interim of the council of war. However, Porter served in the Cabinet only eleven months because the Senate did not confirm his nomination.

In 1841 President John Tyler named him Attorney General of the United States and he served in that office until his death. He also served as Secretary of State ad interim from May 8, 1843, until his death. He died in Boston while attending ceremonies for the unveiling of the Bunker Hill Monument. He was first interred in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was later re-interred in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston.

Jones was sworn in as ambassador to Israel by Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick on September 6, 2005. He left that position on August 1, 2008. Jones served as the deputy executive director of the International Energy Agency, based in Paris from 1 October 2008 until end of September 2013. Jones most recently served as Chargé d'affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon from November 2015 until June 2016.

The place was taken by storm by the combined forces under Caamaño, Sarasti, Alfaro, and Salazar. The Progresistas came to power. A provisional government was appointed until the national convention could meet, and on 11 October 1883 he was elected president ad interim, and finally proclaimed him President of the Republic on 17 February 1884. An attempt was made to assassinate him in 1886, and he narrowly escaped death by throwing himself into a river.

During this time the following officers served as Director: Dennis Whyte Keogh (March–April 1984), Howard Jeter (April–May 1984), and William L. Jacobsen Jr. (May 1984–February 1985). It reopened on June 1, 1989, with Roger A. McGuire as Director. McGuire became chargé d'affaires ad interim when the Liaison Office was elevated to embassy status on March 21, 1990. The first ambassador, Genta H. Holmes was appointed on August 6, 1990.

During those five days, Wadsworth served as Chargé d'affaires ad interim there. When war was declared by Italy on December 11, 1941, Wadsworth was informed personally by Italian Foreign Minister Galeazzo Ciano. He then worked with Italian authorities to secure the safe passage of the embassy staff home, and was one of the three final staff members to leave in May 1942. He arrived back in New York by ocean liner in June.

Ruy Gonçalo do Valle Peixoto de Villas Boas, 5th senhor da Casa de Guilhomil "Bandeiras, de Lisboa", pages 320-321. (born 27 November 1939) is the head of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Upon the death of Fra' Giacomo dalla Torre, 80th Prince and Grand Master of the Order, on 29 April 2020, Villas Boas, Grand Commander of the Order, automatically became Lieutenant ad interim until the election of a new Grand Master.

Upon Nagtglas' return, he was installed adjutant to the governor. Magnin was granted European leave in September 1863. When Magnin returned to the Gold Coast in September 1864, he was promoted to the rank of resident, and again shortly became second in command until governor Henri Alexander Elias returned from European leave in late 1864. After governor Elias retired to Europe for good a few months later, Magnin was installed governor ad interim.

This bohemian and independent quality put him at odds with the appointed ambassador while de Greiff was serving as secretary, especially for his indiscretions regarding a relationship he had with the Chinese Embassy, which he frequented in various occasions at their invitation. This was a breach of protocol as Bogotá did not maintain diplomatic relations with Beijing at that time. After the ambassador left his post, de Greiff became the Chargés d’affaires ad interim.

Gavril Dejeu (; born 11 September 1932) is a Romanian politician who served as Minister of Interior in Victor Ciorbea's cabinet. He was also ad interim Prime Minister of Romania from 30 March to 17 April 1998. Born in Poieni, Cluj County, he is a graduate of the Cluj-Napoca Faculty of Law. Dejeu joined the Christian-Democratic National Peasants' Party (Romania) (PNŢCD) in 1990, after the Romanian Revolution, serving in the Chamber of Deputies from 1992 to 2000.

Revels accepted in 1871, after his term as U.S. Senator expired, appointment as the first president of Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Alcorn State University), a historically black college located in Claiborne County, Mississippi. He taught philosophy as well. In 1873, Revels took a leave of absence from Alcorn to serve as Mississippi's secretary of state ad interim. He was dismissed from Alcorn in 1874 when he campaigned against the reelection of Governor of Mississippi Adelbert Ames.

He was taken to France together with Cardinal Ercole Consalvi in December 1809 and banished to Semur-en-Auxois for not attending Napoleon's wedding with Maria Louise. He was imprisoned in the fortress of Vincennes at the end of 1810 for sending the papal order to the clergy of Paris not to recognise Jean-Siffrein Maury as Archbishop of Paris. He was appointed Major Penitentiary of the Apostolic Penitentiary ad interim in 1811, holding the post until 1814.

Henzel earned a Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross and a Master of Science from the National War College. From January 2017 until April, 2019 Henzel was chargé d’affaires ad interim at the American Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From 2013 to 2016 he was director of the Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs at the State Department in Washington. From 2010 to 2011 he headed the provincial reconstruction office in Mosul, Iraq.

At the end of the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), Atherton was posted to Athens and in 1923-24, served as ad interim United States Ambassador to Greece. It was a time of negotiation between Greece and Turkey to allow resettlement of refugees on both sides. The Greek mission ended suddenly when Washington decided the Embassy in London needed an expert on Far Eastern Affairs. It was to be a temporary assignment, however it lasted almost 14 years.

From February to March 1916, Scott served as ad-interim Secretary of War but his energies were directed more toward preparation for possible U.S. entry into World War I. He was very influential in winning early acceptance among civil officials of the notion of conscription. He retired at the statutory age of 64 on 22 September 1917. He was succeeded as Chief of Staff by Tasker H. Bliss. Despite being retired, Scott was immediately recalled to active duty.

The Embassy of the United States of America in Malta () is the diplomatic mission of United States of America to the Republic of Malta. The current embassy building, opened in 2011, consists of a compound at Ta' Qali National Park in Attard, Malta. Apart from the embassy building, there is also the official residence of the ambassador, at Villa Apap Bologna, also in Attard. Mark A. Schapiro is the current chargé d'affaires ad interim representing American interests in Malta.

Thomas James Scotes (born January 6, 1932 Hagerstown, Maryland) was a career U.S. Foreign Service Officer and was the U.S. Ambassador to Yemen (1975-1978) and Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Syria (Began June 16, 1974). Since he retired, he's been a consultant and Vice President of the Hellenic American Union in Athens, Greece. When he was nominated to be Ambassador, Scotes was considered a specialist on Arab affairs and was deputy chief of mission in Damascus.

Jeffrey DeLaurentis (born 1954)Jeffrey De Laurentis (1954–) is an American diplomat who served as the Chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the United States, Havana from 2015 to 2017. DeLaurentis has ambassadorial rank in the State Department because his prior position at the UN was a US Senate- confirmed ambassadorial position. Cuba and the United States formally restored diplomatic relations on July 20, 2015, after having severed diplomatic ties in 1961 amid the Cold War.

R. R. Reno, a professor of theology at Creighton University who had been involved with the magazine for over a decade and was a Catholic convert from the Episcopal Church, became the magazine's third editor in April 2011. David Blum, David P. Goldman, David Mills, Midge Decter (ad interim), and Mark Bauerlein have all worked as executive or senior editors. At present there are two senior editors: Matthew Schmitz and Julia Yost. Schmitz and Yost married in January 2018.

Keiji Fukuda (福田敬二, born 1954) is an American physician with expertise in influenza epidemiology. After joining the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2005, Fukuda worked as Coordinator of the Global Influenza Program from 2006 to 2008 and was then appointed its Director. In March 2009, Fukuda was appointed Assistant Director-General for Health, Security and Environment ad interim for the World Health Organization, and he held this position from September 2010 to November 2016.WHO Biography .

Along with Zephaniah Swift Spalding, Walker and Irwin organized William G. Irwin & Co. In 1890, Kalākaua once again named him Minister of Finance, as well as ad interim Attorney General until William Nevins Armstrong accepted the position. He remained Minister of Finance until 1882. He was appointed to the Privy Council in 1886 and named as Auditor-General. Appointed once again to the House of Nobles, he became President of the legislature, and once again in 1890–1893.

' (1888–1959) was a Japanese diplomat. There were further allegations about school premises being misused for public events and other private events (including movie audio releases), although school principal R. Paul Victor Samuel maintained that these allegations were baseless. On 6 September 2018 the Hon’ble High Court of Madras passed an ad-interim injunction against the school restraining them from carrying out any business activities / commercial activities in its playground / vacant site in WMP.No.21682/2018 pending disposal of the writ petition WP.No.18737/2018.

Rudolf V. Perina, the chargé d'affaires ad interim, served as the chief of the mission until August 1, 2008, when Marie L. Yovanovitch held the ambassadorship. From June to October 2011, Bruce Donahue served as chargé d’affaires. After Mr. Donahue, John A. Heffern was the ambassador from October 2011 to December 2014. Thereafter, Richard M. Mills, Jr. held the ambassadorship from February 2015 to October 2018, and from October 2018 to March 2019, Rafik Mansour served as chargé d’affaires.

Nevertheless, he led several military campaigns against the Indians and in the independence wars against Brazil. In 1828, after the Treaty of Montevideo, he was elected as the governor of the newly founded Eastern Republic of Uruguay. Rondeau occupied this post from December 22, 1828 until April 17, 1830, when he was forced to abdicate by his opponent Juan Antonio Lavalleja, who held the majority in the still young parliament. Lavalleja was named governor ad interim.

"No longer able to bear the congressional insult of an enemy imposed on his Official family," Marvel says, "Johnson began to ponder removing Stanton outright and replacing him with someone palatable enough to win Senate approval." Johnson sought Lorenzo Thomas, the army's adjutant general, to replace Stanton, to which he agreed. On February 21, Johnson notified Congress that he was dismissing Stanton, and appointing Thomas as secretary ad interim. Stanton, urged by Republican senators, refused to concede his post.

On 22 December 2008 Emil Boc was sworn in as Prime Minister of Romania. He resigned from the office of Mayor of Cluj-Napoca on 4 January 2009. The Government called for partial election in Cluj-Napoca on 15 February 2009. The three main competitors were the ad interim Mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Sorin Apostu (PD-L), former Cluj County Council President and current Senator Marius Nicoară (PNL), and former Cluj-Napoca Police commander, Teodor Pop- Puşcaş (PSD).

John Melvin Yates, (born November 25, 1939 in Superior, Montana -) a Career Foreign Service Officer, held several ambassadorships during his career. He was the American Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cape Verde (1983-1986), Chargé d’Affaires ad interim (Congo (Kinshasa) 1992-1995), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Benin (1995-1998), and concurrent positions to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea (1999-2001). Yates graduated from Stanford University (A.B., 1961) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (M.

Chapin took the oath of office, but did not proceed to post as the U.S. severed diplomatic relations with the Dominican Republic on August 26, 1960. In the interim, the duties of which were carried out by the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Henry Mark Valpey Dearborn. In 1968, Chapin was a member of the Ambassadors for Nixon Committee, an organization formed of seventeen former ambassadors to support the, then, former Vice President Richard M. Nixon's run for President.

Luis Enrique Austria Manalo (born July 21, 1952) is a Filipino diplomat who is the current Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations. Prior to that, he served as Undersecretary for Policy of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He also served as acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines from March 9 to May 17, 2017 when Perfecto Yasay Jr.'s ad-interim appointment confirmation was rejected by the Commission on Appointments due to citizenship issues.

The "d'affaires" is always in the plural form, and should be lowercase even if Chargé is capitalized. Following the French declension, chargée d'affaires (with the feminine ending) may be seen where the chargé is female. For temporary chargés, ad interim may or may not be added depending on the context, but is always lower case; it may be italicized or shortened to simply a.i.

The ad interim appointment ceases to be valid if the commission explicitly rejects the appointment, or if the commission "bypasses" the appointment. If the commission rejects the appointment, the official is no longer allowed to discharge the duties related to his or her office, and the president has to appoint someone else. If the commission bypasses the official, the president can re-appoint that person. The president can also nominate an official if Congress is in session.

Arent Magnin was born in Meppel to Jean Samuel Magnin and Grietien Wildeboer. He was appointed assistant on the Gold Coast in 1857, serving as commandant of Fort Patience at Apam from 1858 onwards. Wells Stabler (1919, Boston – November 13, 2009, Washington, DC) was an American Career Foreign Service Officer who served as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Jordan (February 18, 1949 - February 1950) and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Spain (1975-1978). It was during his tenure in Spain that Francisco Franco died and Spain transitioned to a constitutional democracy. After graduating from Harvard, he entered the State Department in the early 1940s. When the United States recognized Israel, Stabler became Vice Consul in Jerusalem.

Judge Chapin was asked to serve as Mayor of Worcester, one more time. On December 18, 1870, Chapin was appointed mayor, ad interim, by the city council, in joint convention, December 19, 1870 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James B. Blake. Chapin served until Edward Earle was elected in a special election to serve out the remainder of Mayor Blake's term. In 1877 Chapin developed ill health; he died at age 67, in Worcester, on October 13, 1878.

Taher was imprisoned several times, most recently in 2013, when he was arrested on 2 January 2013, by RAB personnel, in connection with various allegations, including arson attacks, attacks on police and conspiracy against the government. He was later released on bail. He was also arrested by joint forces on allegations of extortion, looting and grabbing during the tenure of the military backed caretaker government on 7 March 2007. He was released on ad-interim bail on 7 August 2008.

On 25 November 2019, one day after the presidential election, Ciolacu visited Dăncilă at home in order to convince her to step down as party leader. Seemingly unsuccessful, Ciolacu and other party leaders forced a special party committee, where Dăncilă and the rest of her leadership were convinced to resign, lest they be excluded from the party. He considered the possibilities of establishing settlements and to search for French traders trading there (trade in Spanish America of not Spanish people was prohibited).

David Thomas later became a lawyer. It is known that Sam Houston read law at Maryville College in eastern Tennessee, but is not yet known where his friend and colleague David Thomas read law, whether with a preceptor or at college. Also, it is known that David Thomas's first cousin-once removed, James Houston Thomas was the Attorney General of Tennessee 1836-1842, at roughly the same time David Thomas was attorney general ad interim of the Republic of Texas.

Lublin Dilja (1957 - February 2, 2009) was an Albanian Ambassador to the United Nations. Dilja was post-communist first from 1993 to 1997, then a member of the Democratic Party of Albania from 2001 to 2004. He represented his country as Ambassador to the U.N. on an ad interim basis, as chargé d'affaires, until he was replaced in 2006 by Adrian Neritani. Dilja died aged 51 in New York City, United States, on February 2, 2009, following a long illness.

On February 21, 1868, President Johnson attempted to replace Stanton by appointing Thomas as Secretary of War ad interim. Thomas, still stinging from his bad treatment by Stanton, boasted of his ability and determination to oust him from office by force, if necessary. Some historians believe that it was this attitude in his testimony at Johnson's impeachment trial in the Senate that was partially responsible for Johnson's acquittal. Thomas retired from the Army on February 22, 1869, ten days before Johnson left office.

On 1 September 1948, Watkins officially replaced John Wendell Holmes as the Chargé d'Affaires ad interim. He knew some Russian prior to arriving in Moscow, and set himself apart from other Western diplomats in the city by becoming fluent in the language. There, Watkins befriended George Costakis, the long-time head of personnel at the Canadian embassy and collector of Soviet art. While Stalin led the Soviet Union, there was limited opportunity for foreign diplomats like Watkins to travel and interact with Soviet society.

He also acted as plenipotentiary of the Austrian Netherlands ad interim from 19 July to 27 October 1787. He died at Vienna. Count Murray left five daughters, one of whom, Christina Teresa, married James Ogilvy, 7th Earl of Findlater, and a son, Joseph Albert Murray (26 August 1774 - 6 February 1848), who succeeded as 4th Baronet and 2nd Count. He was a major-general in the Imperial Army, and died without male issue, when all his Imperial and Belgian honours became extinct and the baronetcy became dormant.

Perfecto Rivas Yasay Jr. (January 27, 1947June 12, 2020) was a Philippine government official who served as Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines in an ad interim basis from June 30, 2016, until March 8, 2017, the rejection of his appointment by the Commission on Appointments over eligibility concerns resulting from questions on his citizenship. He served as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and was Bangon Pilipinas Party's vice-presidential candidate in the 2010 Philippine elections, running alongside Eddie Villanueva.

Harris arrived in Spain in December 1768 and became secretary to the British embassy at Madrid, and was left as chargé d'affaires at that court on the departure of Sir James Grey in August 1769 until the arrival of George Pitt, afterwards Lord Rivers. This interval gave him his opportunity; he discovered the intention of Spain to attack the Falkland Islands, and was instrumental in thwarting it by putting on a bold countenance. The articles charged Johnson with: # Dismissing Secretary of War Edwin Stanton from office after the Senate had voted not to concur with his dismissal and had ordered him reinstated. # Appointing Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas as secretary of war ad interim despite the lack of vacancy in the office, since the dismissal of Stanton had been invalid. # Appointing Thomas without the required advice and consent of the Senate. # Conspiring, with Thomas and "other persons to the House of Representatives unknown," to unlawfully prevent Stanton from continuing in office.

After residing in the United States for a year and eleven months, Koszta returned to Turkey on private business. He was placed under the protection of the United States by the American consul at Smyrna and the American chargé d'affaires ad interim at Constantinople. De Smit van den Broecke then tendered his resignation to the king, but was persuaded to remain in office for the moment. On 23 June 1856 Donker-Curtius, De Smit van den Broecke and two more ministers were dismissed. On 1 July the cabinet Van Hall-Donker Curtius fell, and was replaced by the Cabinet Van der Brugghen. Judy Marigomen Taguiwalo (, born February 18, 1950) is a Filipina social worker, social activist, educator and the former Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Social Welfare and Development. She was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to replace Corazon Soliman in the secretaryship. She served in an ad interim basis from June 30, 2016 until August 16, 2017, the rejection of her appointment by the Commission on Appointments. She is a former professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman and was one of those nominated by the National Democratic Front to the Duterte Cabinet.

Previously he had held the post of deputy minister for Fiscal and Monetary Affairs in the Indonesian National Planning Agency. During the next ten years (1973–1983), Sumarlin served as Minister of State for Administrative Control. Later, between 1983 and 1988, he was appointed to the position of State Minister for National Development Planning, concurrently holding the post of Chairman of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). On 20 March 2015, Prime Minister Renzi briefly became ad interim Minister of Infrastructure and Transport following the resignation of Maurizio Lupi, due to a corruption scandal involving public works on infrastructure in which his name had been cited several times. Renzi held the office on an unofficial basis until 2 April, when Graziano Delrio was appointed as the new Minister. On 4 December 2016, after the failure of the referendum he proposed, announced his resignation. On 7 December 2016, Renzi officially handed over the resignation to the President Sergio Mattarella.

Keyes was a secessionist. When the Civil War began, he volunteered for duty in the Confederate Army but assigned to staff duty in Richmond. During the Civil War he served in the Confederate States Department of Justice, as Assistant Attorney General, Acting Attorney General, and Attorney General Ad Interim at various junctures. When Judah P. Benjamin was appointed Secretary of War on September 21, 1861 and concurrently maintained the Attorney General office, Keyes performed as Assistant Attorney General for two months until Thomas Bragg was confirmed as Attorney General in late November 1861.

Dalla Torre was elected Grand Commander of the Order in 2004. Four years later, as Grand Commander, he automatically became Lieutenant ad interim (acting head of the Order) when Andrew Bertie, the 78th Prince and Grand Master, died on 7 February. He was director of the office of Chinese Affairs at the Department of State between 1989 and 1991. In 1998, she was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, becoming the first woman to have this function. In 2002 she did not stand for reelection and instead became chairperson ad interim of her own parliamentary party, which was a considerable crisis, after losing the elections. In November 2002 she stood for election of chairperson and top candidate for her own party, but was convincingly beaten by Wouter Bos. Netelenbos served as acting Mayor of Oud-Beijerland from 2 May 2005 until 16 October 2006 and as ad interim Mayor of Haarlemmermeer from 16 October 2006 until 20 April 2007 following the resignation of Fons Hertog and as ad interim Mayor of Ede from 7 June 2007 until 21 January 2008 after the appointed of Roel Robbertsen as Queen's Commissioner of Utrecht.

Diplomat In 1988, Evert Gonesh was appointed Counsellor at the Embassy of Suriname in Brussels and from 1991 to 1994 he was Chargé d'Affaires ad Interim. In May 1994, Gonesh was transferred to the Netherlands as Ambassador and from 1998 onwards he was also Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in The Hague. He was also accredited as non-resident Ambassador of Suriname for Great Britain, Germany and Russia. During the process of secularizing the Mission San Luis Rey in 1834, Captain Pablo de la Portillà was appointed administrator. The Singapore Romanian diplomat incident occurred on 15 December 2009, when three pedestrians were struck in a hit-and-run in the Singapore suburb of Bukit Panjang. The vehicle, a black Audi A6 bearing diplomatic license plates, was later identified as being driven by Dr Silviu Ionescu, at the time Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Romanian Embassy in Singapore. At approximately 3 am, the vehicle ran two red lights and hit the pedestrians on a pedestrian crossing, injuring two and killing one. Approximately 40 minutes after the incident, Ionescu reported the vehicle as being stolen.

Phil Chicola with Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie Philip T. Chicola (born 1946) is a retired Career Foreign Service Officer who served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in Brazil from November 2005 until November 2006. Chicola also served as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver, B.C. Raúl Reyes, described as a “senior Colombian guerrilla leader killed in Ecuador” in 2008, had a secret meeting with US diplomats in December 1998. The meeting was held in Costa Rica and was led by Chicola. At the time, he was director of the State Department's Office of Andean Affairs.

A month later Frank Woody, who would later become Missoula's first mayor, was named ad interim, and he would lengthen the name to the Montana Pioneer. On February 8, 1873, Woody and his partner T. M. Chisholm purchased the paper and changed its name to The Missoulian. W. R. Turk replaced Chisholm and Woody would sell out a year later, but the paper's name has more-or-less stayed the same until today. Turk died of tuberculosis in 1875 and the paper was published by Chauncey Barbour until August 15, 1879 when Duane J. Armstrong became editor and publisher.

It serves as a covering letter for the filing of documents with the registry and other registry work. Praecipes are also used in order to motion the Judge, either in court or in chambers in order to place a matter for early listing or in order to seek urgent ad-interim reliefs. Praecipes in India are usually in the form of a letter addressed to the Registrar of that particular court.

When American troops invaded the occupied Philippines in the Second Philippine Campaign, Valdes returned together with MacArthur and President Osmeña in the landing on Red Beach, Leyte on October 20, 1944. Valdes reentered Manila on February 6, 1945, and was reunited with his family after three years of separation. Later the same month, the Commonwealth of the Philippines was reestablished and President Osmeña appointed Valdes as ad interim Secretary of Public Health and Welfare, officially taking the position on June 27, 1945. In this position he organized relief goods and medicine distributions from the U.S. Medical Corps to the war torn country.

In early 1942, the PCM leadership had withdrawn deep into Soviet territory, at Leninsk. Its Junior Secretary, Nikita Salogor, was able to outmaneuver party leader Piotr Borodin, and took over his offices ad interim. Consequently, Salogor also took up the task of organizing partisan units. The United States Ambassador to Belarus is the official representative of the President of the United States to the head of state of Belarus. Until 1991 the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic had been a constituent SSR of the Soviet Union. Upon the breakup of the USSR, the Supreme Soviet of Belarus declared itself independent of the Soviet Union on August 25, 1991, and renamed itself the Republic of Belarus on September 19, 1991. The United States recognized Belarus December 26, 1991. An embassy was established in the capital, Minsk, on January 31, 1992, with John Ford as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.

Colonel Francisco Torralbo was born in the Principality of Catalonia. The United States recognized Armenia on December 25, 1991. The embassy at Yerevan was opened February 3, 1992, with Steven Mann as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim. The U.S. ambassadorial post to Armenia became vacant on May 24, 2006, when the then- current ambassador, John Marshall Evans, was recalled by the Bush administration, purportedly over remarks by Evans concerning the Armenian genocide. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa objected to the nomination as he considered Ibarguren 'ultraconservative and fundamentalist', he also feared that Ibarguren would destroy all the social work his predecessor had achieved. Michael E. Malinowski (born in 1948, Chicago) is a member of the Senior Foreign Service, was the U.S. Ambassador to Nepal from 10/26/2001 to 01/31/2007. He was also Chargé d'Affaires ad interim in the Philippines from July 2000 until September 2001. Before he joined the Foreign Service, he was a social worker and teacher. Malinowski was the US Consul in Kabul at the time of Ambassador Spike Dubs murder and was one of the people to rush to the hotel where he was being held after his kidnapping and before his death.

He also acted as Deputy-Director General of the Department for the Americas and served in Haiti as ad interim Chargé d'affaires. Afterwards, he was appointed as Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York City. James Peter Zumwalt (born April 13, 1956) is an American diplomat with expertise in trade, economy, and East Asia. On November 19, 2014 he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the U.S. Ambassador to Senegal and to Guinea- Bissau. Previously, he worked as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, covering Japan and Korea. Until December 2011, he was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo where he also served as chargé d'affaires ad interim during the absence of an Ambassador from January to August 2009.

President James Monroe selected Senator Southard to be Secretary of the Navy in September 1823, and he remained in office under President John Quincy Adams. During these years, he also served briefly as ad interim Secretary of the Treasury (1825) and Secretary of War (1828). Southard proved to be one of the most effective of the Navy's early Secretaries. He endeavored to enlarge the Navy and improve its administration, purchased land for the first Naval Hospitals, began construction of the first Navy dry docks, undertook surveys of U.S. coastal waters and promoted exploration in the Pacific Ocean.

With the emergency vesting of Latvian sovereign authority in the chief of the Latvian diplomatic service, Kārlis Zariņš (Charles Zarine) in London, the Latvian diplomatic corps continued to function in exile. U.S. envoy Alfreds Bīlmanis, head of the Washington, D.C., consulate, promoted Dinbergs to vice consul in September 1940, then transferred Dinbergs to Washington, D.C., in 1941, where he served as diplomatic attaché and head of the consular section. After the death of Bīlmanis, Dinbergs served as chargé d'affaires ad interim from July 1948 to June 28, 1949, when Kārlis Zariņš formally appointed Julijs Feldmanis to the post of chargé d'affaires of Latvia.

Daniel L Shields ambassador Daniel Luke Shields III (born 1963) is a retired American Ambassador (Brunei 2011-2014). In 2017, he temporarily served as the Charge d'affaires ad interim of the United States to ASEAN. Prior to that, he joined the United States Army War College to act as diplomatic advisor since 2015. Ambassador Shields also served as Deputy Chief of Mission (2007-2010) at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, and for over a year as Chargé d'Affaires (2009-2010), between the departure of Ambassador Patricia L. Herbold and the arrival of Ambassador David I. Adelman.

From 1991 to 1992, Auštrevičius worked as a Senior Specialist and was the First Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Lithuania). He was subsequently appointed as the Head of the Nordic States Division for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served from 1992 to 1993. In 1993, Auštrevičius became a Chargé d'Affaires ad Interim of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Finland, a position he held until 1994. From 1994 to 1997, he served as Lithuania’s Ambassador to Finland, and at the age of 31, became the youngest ambassador in Lithuanian history.

In December 2019, it was announced that she would be the next Bishop of Doncaster, a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Sheffield. She was due to be consecrated a bishop on Lady Day 2020 (25 March); but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she was instead licensed ad interim as "Bishop of Doncaster designate and Principal Commissary of the Bishop of Sheffield" that day. She was consecrated a bishop during a service on 21 September at York Minster: the principal consecrator was Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York, who was assisted by Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham and Pete Wilcox, Bishop of Sheffield.

In 1992, Minton became the Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, after which he returned to Washington as the Director of Korean Affairs. In 1998, he was appointed Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, followed by a year as Diplomat-in-Residence at the City College of New York. Before becoming Ambassador to Mongolia, Minton was Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea. During his assignment in Seoul, he acted for over six months as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim.

Irina Georgieva Bokova (; born 12 July 1952) is a Bulgarian politician and the former Director-General of UNESCO (2009–2017). During her political and diplomatic career in Bulgaria, she served, among others, two terms as a member of the National parliament, and deputy minister of foreign affairs and minister of foreign affairs ad interim under Prime Minister Zhan Videnov. She also served as Bulgaria's ambassador to France and to Monaco, and was Bulgaria's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. Bokova was also the personal representative of Bulgaria's President to the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (2005–2009).Biography. unesco.org.

By the time of the crucial negotiations with Japan in the late 1930s, Dooman was Counselor of the Embassy, the number two to Ambassador Joseph C. Grew. He frequently served as charge d'affaires ad interim during Grew's absences, including Grew's home leave in 1939. Dooman was interned on the embassy compound after Pearl Harbor, and returned to the US on the Swedish exchange vessel Gripsholm. Later, in 1945, Dooman was involved with his old chief, now Acting Secretary of State Joseph Grew as Special Assistant to Assistant Secretary of State James Dunn in the decision over calling for Japanese surrender.

NGOs and aid agencies were ordered to stop operations and leave the area and the government decreed that all assistance had to be coordinated through the government in Jakarta and the Indonesian Red Cross. In May 2004, martial law in Aceh came to an end and the status of the conflict was downgraded to a civil emergency. Indonesian Coordinating Minister ad interim Hari Sabarno announced the change after a cabinet meeting on May 13, 2004. The government announced that they had made significant progress, and that during the operation thousands of GAM members had been killed, captured and surrendered.

He was transferred to Lisbon in 1816 and was appointed Chargé d'Affaires to the Court of Portugal in 1820, an office he held until 1823. In the following year, Ward came as secretary of embassy to St Petersburg and was thereupon nominated Minister Plenipotentiary to the Emperor of Russia ad interim until 1825. Subsequently, he was for one year in Vienna and became Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Court of Saxony in 1828, returning to England in 1832. On 14 September 1815, he married Lady Matilda Stewart, daughter of Robert Stewart, 1st Marquess of Londonderry, and had by her a daughter and a son.

Therefore, Savickis incurred personal debts and could not organize more active representation. In turn, the Ministry complained of Savickis' lax bookkeeping practices. In January 1922, he was officially recognized as chargés d'affaires ad interim in Denmark and a month later in Norway and Sweden. In December 1923, the legation was closed due to financial difficulties and Savickis was reassigned to Helsinki, Finland. After the coup d'état in December 1926, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustinas Voldemaras, concentrated his attention on the main powers in Europe and paid a lot less interest to the Scandinavian countries and the legation in Finland was closed on 1 July 1927.

Getúlio Vargas, who had by this time become Brazil's legally-recognized president (no longer merely ad interim), thus looked to a form of authoritarian government. He endeavored to suppress his enemies on the left, led by Prestes, through violence and state terror in order to survive with his coalition intact during the agitated years that began in 1934. Vargas had become allied with Brazils' agrarian oligarchies, having an established network of economic and political power, and the Integralists, a fascist movement with a mass popular support-base in urban Brazil. Vargas' political power forced the Brazilian Congress to respond to the growth of the Communist movement.

He ceased office as President on 7 May 1985. Subsequently he was elected to the Senate in the X Legislature (1987–92) among the ranks of the Christian Democracy. From 28 April 1993 to 10 May 1994 he served as Minister for Electoral and Institutional Reforms in the Ciampi Cabinet and from 19 April to 10 May 1994 was also Minister of Foreign Affairs ad interim, taking the place of Beniamino Andreatta who resigned as candidate for the European Parliament elections. In 1994 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the XII Legislature (1994–96) and in 1996 was elected again Senator in the XIII Legislature (1996–2001).

On the following day the government also won a confidence vote in the Senate of the Republic, with 169 votes for and 99 against. On 29 December deputy ministers of the Democratic Party, New Centre- Right, as well as the Italian Socialist Party and Solidary Democracy, were appointed. After the split of the Democrats and Progressives from the Democratic Party, that party was presented by one deputy minister in the government. On 19 July 2017 Gentiloni became Minister of Regional Affairs ad interim, after the resignation of Enrico Costa, member of Popular Alternative, who often criticized Gentiloni's views and ideas, especially regarding immigration and birthright citizenship.

Salim remained in charge of foreign affairs in the first Hatta Cabinet, while officially serving ad interim. When Dutch started a military offensive called Operatie Kraai, in December 1948 , he was one of the Republican leaders exiled from the capital, Yogyakarta. Alongside Sjahrir and Sukarno, Salim was first exiled to Berastagi in North Sumatera before transferred to Parapat. With the rest of the leaders, Salim returned to Yogya and reclaimed his duties as foreign minister in the second Hatta Cabinet, having been briefly exercised by Sjafruddin Prawiranegara ex officio with his duties as Chairman of the Emergency Government of the Republic in its only cabinet from December 1948 to July 1949.

After joining the foreign service in 1973, Hacker held overseas assignments at Embassy Stockholm, Sofia, Nicosia and Helsinki. From 1990 to 1992, Hacker was assigned to the former Czechoslovakia to serve as Consul General to Slovakian city of Bratislava. Experiencing the Velvet Divorce in 1993, resulting in the independence of Slovak Republic and Czech Republic respectively, he was in charge of the U.S. effort to establish an embassy at Bratislava, turning it into a self-run mission from the U.S. Embassy in Prague. From 4 January 1993, he served as the embassy’s first chief of mission (Chargés d'affaires ad interim) 7 July, when Eleanor Sutter assumed charge of his post.

Prime Minister Maiwandwal resigns for health reasons, the king asking Abdullah Yaqta, Minister of State, to assume the premiership ad interim pending the formation of a new government. Maiwandwal's resignation is widely regretted, since he is looked upon as one of the main architects of the new Afghanistan. He successfully concluded the second five-year development plan and launched the third; he won national confidence in the 1964 constitution, which liberalized the political structure of the country; his visits abroad strengthened Afghanistan's international position and its traditional policy of friendship without involvement. He eased relations with Pakistan and gave a new impetus to the growth of trade between the two countries.

First U.S. embassy on Hàm Nghi Boulevard The U.S. diplomatic presence in Saigon was established on December 9, 1907 as a consulate. It acted as a representative to French Indochina succeeding an American commercial agent that had been established in Saigon in 1889. The United States granted recognition to the State of Vietnam led by the Bảo Đại government in 1950, and on February 17, the Consulate-General in Saigon was elevated to Legation status with Edmund A. Gullion as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim. Following the Geneva Accords of 1954 and the subsequent partitioning into North Vietnam and South Vietnam, the United States did not extend diplomatic recognition to North Vietnam.

His father was Thomas Adolph Korn and his mother was Iris Dobson. David Korn was divorced from Susan K. Palmer in 1981 and is married to Roberta Cohen, currently a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul, 2010 The United States Ambassador to Afghanistan is the official representative of the President of the United States to the head of state of Afghanistan. The States recognized Afghanistan, then under the rule of King Amānullāh, on July 26, 1921. Diplomatic relations were established in 1935. The first ambassador appointed to Afghanistan was William H. Hornibrook, who was concurrently commissioned to Persia, as Iran was known then, and resident in Tehran. Until 1942, the U.S. Ambassador to Persia/Iran was also the Ambassador to Afghanistan. The U.S. Legation at Kabul was established on June 6, 1942, with Charles W. Thayer as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim.

The civilian refugees were accompanied by the newly forming provisional army, as Houston bought time to train soldiers and create a military structure that could oppose Santa Anna's greater forces. Houston's actions were viewed as cowardice by the ad interim government, as well as by some of his own troops. Frederick was born in Karlsruhe on 9 September 1826. He was the third son of Grand Duke Leopold (1790–1852) and of his wife, Grand Duchess Sophie (1801–1865), who was born Princess of Sweden, daughter of King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden. He became the heir presumptive to the Grand Duchy upon the death of his father in 1852 and the accession of his brother as Grand Duke Louis II. Due to his brother's mental ill-health, he was regent ad interim of Baden in 1852–1855, and took the title of Grand Duke in 1856. His brother, Louis II, died in 1858.

On May 10, 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Cayetano was appointed as Secretary of Foreign Affairs, following the expiration of the one-year appointment ban on losing candidates of the 2016 elections. Cayetano replaced acting secretary Enrique Manalo, who assumed the post in March 2017 when the Commission on Appointments's (CA) rejected President Duterte's ad interim appointment of Perfecto Yasay Jr. due to the latter's citizenship concerns. In 1980, Clò founded the magazine Energia and he is the editor of the magazine. From 1995 to 1996 he served as minister of industry from January 1995 to May 1996 and ad interim minister of foreign trade in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Lamberto Dini. In addition, Clò was also president of the council of industry and energy ministers of the European Union during the six-month Italian presidency in the same period. He is professor of industrial economics and of public services economics at the University of Bologna where he was promoted to the rank of associate professor of industrial economy in 1987.

He resigned on 11 September, sending a letter to the parliamentary secretariat. By a vote of 52 MPs, the post of the President of the Republic of Moldova was declared vacant. Therefore, in accordance with Article 91 of the constitution, which provides that "the responsibility of the office shall devolve ad interim to the President of Parliament or the Prime Minister, in that order of priority," Mihai Ghimpu became the interim President of the Republic of Moldova. Concurrent to his executive department service, he also served in the Board of Trustees of the Development Academy of the Philippines and as representative of the Office of the President in the Board of Directors of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Guevarra was appointed as ad interim Justice Secretary on April 5, 2018 replacing Vitaliano Aguirre II. In a speech before the employees of the Department of Justice on his first day at the department on April 16, 2018, Guevarra said it was his personal mission to "restore the dignified and respectable image" of the Justice department, after it was hounded by controversial cases under his predecessor. His appointment was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments in May 2018.

Frere was born in 1776, the fifth son of John Frere, F.R.S., M.P. for Norwich, and a younger brother of John Hookham Frere and William Frere. He proceeded B.A. at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1799, and M.A. in 1806. In 1801 he was appointed secretary of legation at Lisbon, whence he was transferred in the same capacity to Madrid in 1802 and Berlin 1805, and in 1807 became secretary of embassy at Constantinople, and witnessed the discomfiture of Charles Arbuthnot and Admiral Duckworth. In 1808 he returned to Spain as secretary of embassy, and acted as minister plenipotentiary ad interim at Seville from November 1809 to January 1810, and at Cadiz from 29 Jan.

In 1990, he was elected a member of the city council of Coevorden for the local political party PAC (Progressief Accoord Coevorden) for the first time. After he won the local elections with this party in 1994, he became the deputy mayor (Wethouder) in charge of finances, spatial planning, housing, environment, public relations and communications and small and medium enterprises. He was deputy mayor of Coevorden until 1998, when that city merged with four other municipalities to the new municipality Coevorden. In 1998, he was the director ad interim of the regional environmental non-governmental organisation Milieufederatie Groningen for half a year. In November of that year, Ensink was appointed director of the Dutch Fietsersbond (Cyclists’ Union).

Ambassador Huddleston is a retired career Senior Foreign Service Officer whose last assignment was as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense from June 2009 through December 2011. Before that she was Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Ethiopia, United States Ambassador to Mali, Principal Officer of the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, and U.S. Ambassador to Madagascar. She was Chief of United States Interests Section in Havana from 1999–2002 and was earlier the Deputy and then the Coordinator of the Office of Cuban Affairs. Prior to joining the Department of Defense, she was a visiting scholar at Brookings Institution.

As in the Senate, PD, FI and LeU voted against the government while FdI abstained. Besides M5S and League, Conte received two votes from independent deputies and one vote from Vittorio Sgarbi, a notable and controversial member of Forza Italia who has always heavily criticised the M5S, but decided to support the cabinet in respect of Salvini and with the hope that a M5S government could lead toward their failure. On 5 February 2019, Conte became acting Minister of European Affairs after the resignation of Paolo Savona, who was elected President of the Companies and Exchange Commission (CONSOB). Astor House, New York City 1862 Mr. Marsh was among the pioneers of railways in America. He was one of the twenty gentlemen who met in 1845, at the New York Hotel, on the invitation of Benjamin Loder, and united in a subscription amounting to three millions of dollars, which was intended to complete the construction of the Erie. From 1846 until 1865, Mr. Marsh was vice-president of the Erie Railroad, his incumbency of that position being occasionally interrupted by his being called upon to assume the duties of president ad interim.

Gasarabwe joined the UN in 1991 and has held a number of position in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York City, including Chief of Division ad interim for Eastern and Central Africa. Prior to her current appointment, she was Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative and Designated Official in Mali and, since 1998, she had also served as Resident Coordinator in a number of other countries, including Guinea, Djibouti, and Benin. In 2001, she was appointed as inaugural Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security for the United Nations. In this position, Gasarabwe is responsible for managing the department and reports to the Under-Secretary- General for Safety and Security.

As governor, Penfold became increasingly aware of growing resentment among the citizens of the British dependencies regarding their rights of entry and abode in the UK. He proposed that the territories be renamed "British overseas territories", and that their citizens be given equal rights of entry and abode—proposals that were eventually accepted.Cullimore, p. 30. At the end of Penfold's term, a constitutional crisis arose after Chief Minister Hamilton Lavity Stoutt died suddenly. The Secretaries General have been instrumental in the successful setting-up of the ERC, and have worked closely and fruitfully together with the two consecutive Directors ad interim of the ERCEA, Jack Metthey and thereafter Pablo Amor. During the first half of 2011, a Task Force chaired by the European Commission's Research Director- General, Robert-Jan Smits, decided to give further suggestions regarding the governance structure of the ERC in the European Commission's Framework Programme (Horizon 2020), 2014 - 2020. It inter alia suggested to merge the positions of the President and of the Secretary General into a full-time President based in Brussels.

Governor Gonzalo Ronquillo de Peñalosa and Domingo de Salazar, the first bishop of Manila, had requested the King of Spain to establish the Supreme Court of the Philippines then called the Audiencia, to settle disputes between the Church and State. In 1584, three judges arrived from Mexico and started the justice court with De Vera serving as the chief justice. After the sudden death of Governor Peñalosa, Diego Ronquillo, his nephew became the governor ad interim but was later charged for defalcation in the trust of Peñalosa's estate and was sent back to Spain as a prisoner. As the chief justice of the court, Santiago de Vera succeeded as the governor of the islands on May 16, 1584.

Jose María Montoya was a Mexican diplomat who served twice as ad interim chargé d'affaires of Mexico to the United States of America (1828–1830 and 1831–1833). During his first stint as chargé d'affaires, Montoya substituted Envoy Pablo Obregón, a former colonel in the Army of the Three Guarantees who committed suicide at the embassy in August 1828. From February 1830 to June 1831, he was substituted by José María Tornel, who served several times as secretary of War in the cabinet of Antonio López de Santa Anna. When Tornel returned to Mexico, Montoya was reappointed as chargé and held the post until 31 December 1833, when he was substituted by Joaquín María del Castillo y Lanzas.

Deming joined the State Department in 1966 as a political officer in the United States Embassy in Tunis, Tunisia. He spent much of his career dealing with Japanese affairs, having served in Japan as Chargé d'Affaires, ad interim, from December 1996 to September 1997 and as Deputy Chief of Mission under Ambassador Walter Mondale from October 1993 to December 1996. From September 1991 to August 1993, he was Director of the Office of Japanese Affairs in Washington, DC. He served as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the American Embassy in Tokyo from August 1987 to July 1991. From 1985 to 1986, he was detailed to the National War College in Washington, DC.

On April 2016, he was appointed again as Undersecretary for Policy and on March to May 2017, served as acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs after the rejection of Perfecto Yasay Jr.'s ad-interim appointment by the Commission on Appointments. On August 2018, Manalo was appointed by President Duterte as the Ambassador of the Philippines to Germany and on February 2020, as the 21st Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations in New York City, a post that had been left vacant since October 2018 after former Permanent Representative Teodoro Locsin Jr.'s departure to become the Secretary of Foreign Affairs. His appointment was confirmed by the Commission on Appointments on March 4.

In response, several frightened Mexican states, including the state of Tamaulipas, granted incredible powers to their governors. Finally, in 1858, the ad interim Governor of Tamaulipas, Ramón Guerra, established the Zona Libre by special decree in an attempt to grow the economic prowess of his state at the petitioned request of his citizens. Under this decree, goods remained duty-free so long as they stayed within the boundaries of the free trade zone, loosely outlined by Guerra. Unlike the United States, however, goods could be stored in private or public warehouses indefinitely, giving Mexican merchants an edge over the American ones who were restricted to only two years by United States law.

Prior to establishing the UNU-FLORES, he established another six international and national entities. He served as Director of the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC) from 2007 to 2015 and as ad interim Vice- Rector of the United Nations University (UNU) in Europe from 2009 to 2011. During his tenure as the senior official at the United Nations, his leadership contributed largely to the implementation of the MDGs and the SDGs, especially on global capacity development. He has been on the boards of various international programmes/organizations such as the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme, the UNESCO Institute for Water Education, the International Hydropower Association, and the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS).

Ole Due started his career at the Danish Ministry of Justice, culminating in his appointment as Director. He was notably involved with the implementation of the European Community acts at the time of the enlargement in 1973 when Denmark, the United Kingdom and Ireland became members of the European Economic Community and was involved in the drawing up of the Treaty of Accession. He became Adviser ad interim to the Østre Landsret (Eastern High Court of Appeal) in Copenhagen in 1978. Due was also a member of the Danish delegation to the Hague Conference on private international law. He was appointed a Judge of the European Court of Justice from 7 October 1979 to 6 October 1988, in succession to the immensely respected Max Sørensen.

Prior to the 2011 reform, the classes were, in descending order: #60px Collar ("Collar"), awarded to heads of state; #60px Grand Cross ("Cruz"), awarded to prime ministers and heads of government #60px Sash ("Banda"), awarded to government ministers, secretaries and ambassadors #60px Medal ("Medalla"), awarded to government undersecretaries, plenipotentiary ministers, as well to those whose category is tantamount to the previous; #60px Placard ("Placa"), awarded to ad hoc business representatives, colonels and lieutenant colonels, captains of a ship, equivalent servants of embassies in Mexico), as well to those whose category is tantamount to the previous; #60px Venera (a type of insignia), awarded to ad interim business representatives and other members of diplomatic missions; #60px Insignia proper, awarded under the Council's discretion; and #60px Honorable Mention ("Mención Honorífica").

Belgium did not reach Portugal's Euro 2004, and after failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1978, the contract of national coach Aimé Anthuenis was not renewed beyond 2005. René Vandereycken was assigned to replace Anthuenis in January 2006, but the performances of the team did not improve and they slipped to an all-time low 71st position in the FIFA World Rankings in June 2007. After failing to qualify for Euro 2008 and a generally poor performance in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where Belgium ended fourth in their group (two places below the play-off spot), coach Vandereycken was sacked in April 2009. His assistant Franky Vercauteren would take over ad interim.

Mikkel Mikkelsen (also called Michael) (DOB - DOD) was Governor-General ad interim of St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies, from 27 February 1686 to 29 June 1686. Little is known about his life, aside from his short term as Governor during the turbulent early days of company rule. When the rule of Gabriel Milan, and his imprisonment of former Governor Adolph Esmit had become a problem for the Danish West India Company in 1686, it was decided that Mikkelsen was to be sent as a commissioner to settle the difficulties.Westergaard, West Indies, 37 Mikkelsen left Copenhagen on 15 October 1685, arriving fully armed on 24 February 1686 on board the same Fortuna that had brought Milan to St. Thomas.

Boele Staal (born 18 December 1947) is a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 party serving as the Acting King's Commissioner of Overijssel since 19 December 2017. The position was left vacant by Ank Bijleveld who was appointed to be Minister of Defence in the Third Rutte cabinet on 26 October 2017; his candidacy was validated by the Council of Ministers on 8 December 2017. Staal, a native of Apeldoorn, previously served as the Queen's Commissioner of Utrecht from 1998 to 2007, and as a Senator from 1991 to 1998 and again between 2010 and 2011. He also was the ad interim Mayor of Arnhem from October 2016 to August 2017, until the instalment of Ahmed Marcouch on 1 September 2017.

Wafy obtained his master's degree in law from the Université du Bénin, Togo and graduated from the Ecole nationale supérieure de police in France. He held a range of high-ranking positions in the Government of Niger, including as Senior Security Adviser to the Minister for Interior, Public Safety and Decentralization; Inspector General of Police; Special Security Adviser to the President; and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Libya and Permanent Representative of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States in Tripoli. Prior to this appointment, Wafy served as Deputy Special Representative for the Rule of Law in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) ad interim since September 2012. He was also the mission's Police Commissioner.

Carlos Echeverri Cortés (23 June 1900 – 14 March 1974) was a Colombian economist and diplomat who served as ad interim fifth Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations, and as Ambassador of Colombia to Peru and Mexico. During his ambassadorship in Peru he became an enemy of the administration of President Manuel Arturo Odría Amoretti for granting political asylum to the politician Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre, an action that drove the Peruvian Government to mount a five-year struggle harassing embassy staff and personnel, and forming a military blockade around the Colombian Embassy where Haya was housed, this because Lima had refused to grant safe conduct for Haya to leave the country and Ambassador Echeverri refused to give him up.

The following day Renzi was formally sworn in as Prime Minister, becoming the youngest Prime Minister in the history of Italy. His rise to become Prime Minister was widely seen as a sign of much-needed generational change, and at the time he took office he enjoyed by far the highest approval rating of any politician in the country. On 25 February Renzi won a vote of confidence in the Italian Parliament, with 169 votes in the Senate and 378 in the Chamber of Deputies. On 20 March 2015, Prime Minister Renzi became ad interim Minister of Infrastructure and Transport after the resignation of Maurizio Lupi, due to a corruption scandal involving public works on infrastructure, in which his name was cited several times.

John Wendell Holmes, (18 June 1910 - 13 August 1988) was a Canadian diplomat and academic. Born in London, Ontario, Holmes attended the University of Western Ontario and received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. From 1933 to 1938, he was a master of English at Pickering College. From 1938 to 1940, he attended the University of London. He joined the Department of External Affairs in 1943 as a temporary wartime assistant. From 1947 to 1948, he was the Canadian Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to the Soviet Union. In 1950, he was appointed Acting Permanent Delegate to the United Nations. He became Assistant Under-Secretary of State for External Affairs in 1953 where he remained until his retirement in 1960.

Jenő Vincze was hired as new team manager, following René Bader who had been trainer ad- interim. The Hungarian ex-international footballer Vincze had been team manager of Servette the previous two seasons. Defender Ulrich Vetsch joined the club from Young Fellows Zürich, hungarian stricker Ferenc Stockbauer joined from SV Wiesbaden, Paul Speidel from lower tier club FC Olten and Jean- Louis Gygax from lower tier FC Moutier. In the other direction Hans Hügi moved on to Young Fellows Zürich after 11 seasons and 220 league and cup games for Basel. Hermann Suter, who had played 16 seasons for Basel and in 229 league and cup games had scored 104 goals, ended his active football career. Antoine Kohn moved on to play for Fortuna '54.

Stanfield began working for the U.S. State Department in 1968, going on to work in a variety of political and economic posts in the diplomatic corps in the former American embassy in Taipei, Taiwan (1969-1971) and the American Institute in Taiwan (1985-1987); the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong; and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing (1979-81) before becoming Chargé d'Affaires ad interim (1993-1994), and Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand (1993-1995), which was her highest post prior to assuming the ambassadorship. After her ambassadorship ended, Stanfield became a Diplomat in Residence at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University from 2003-2005; she went on to a second Diplomat in Residence post, at Spelman College.

In 2001 Saraceno led the preparation of the WHO World Health Report: Mental Health: New Understanding, New Hope, and of the world health day devoted to mental health with the slogan: "Stop Exclusion Dare to Care". He led the WHO Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse until 2010 contributing to important initiatives of reform of mental health systems in many countries and working towards the promotion of the human rights of people with mental disability. He played a leading role in the process of approval of the Global Strategy on Harmful Use of Alcohol by all WHO member states. From 2007 to 2008 he was also the Director ad interim of the Department of Chronic Diseases and Health Promotion, WHO, Geneva.

The nominees are required to be those having been picked beforehand by the monarch and they must be nominated in accordance with the order of precedence designated beforehand by the monarch also. Until a regent or council of regency is appointed, the president of the Privy Council will serve as the regent ad interim. The constitution also requires an appointed regent to take the following oath of office amongst the National Assembly before assuming office: > Formerly, the law required regency during the incapacity of the monarch. In > January 2017, King Rama X made an unprecedented move to change a draft > constitution (later promulgated as the 2017 constitution) by removing the > need for the monarch to appoint any regent in such an event, despite the > draft having already been approved in a referendum.

In that powerful position, Roxas managed to sit on (bypass) the nominations of some of Osmeña's most important political advisers and supporters. The Commission also confirmed Osmeña's nominations for chief justice and associate justices of the Supreme Court, except for one, Justice Jose A. Espiritu, whose credentials were questioned before the Commission. Espiritu became the shortest-serving member of the Supreme Court. He returned as dean of the U.P. College of Law in September 1945, after serving in an ad interim capacity as associate justice for only two months. The heat of presidential politics further divided loyalties in the postwar Congress, as its members failed to decide on the date of elections for president, vice-president, 16 senators and 98 congressmen as well as certain electoral provisions (e.g.

Braks retired after spending 26 years in national politics but remained active in the private sector and public sector and continued to occupy numerous seats as a corporate director and nonprofit director on several boards of directors and supervisory boards (Rabobank, Campina, UTZ Certified, Enza Zaden, Vereniging Natuurmonumenten and the European Centre for Nature Conservation) and served on several state commissions and councils on behalf of the government (Institute for Multiparty Democracy and Staatsbosbeheer). In August 2007 Braks was appointed as Ad interim Mayor of Eindhoven following a proposed referendum for the introduction of elected Mayors, serving from 1 September 2007 until 7 April 2008. Braks was known for his abilities as a debater and policy wonk. Braks continued to comment on political affairs until his death at the age of 84.

While in Philadelphia, he succeeded François Barbé-Marbois as Secretary of the French Legation in May 1785, serving another two terms as Chargé d'affaires ad interim, having established cordial relations with George Washington and other senior members of Congress. While in the United States he authored reports analyzing the U.S. Constitution and the prospects for its ratification. Comte Pelet de la Lozère in attendance In March 1787, Otto married Elizabeth, daughter of Peter Van Brugh Livingston; she died in December 1787. He returned to France at the end of 1792, and shortly afterwards the Revolutionary Government Committee of Public Safety appointed him as the first Head of the Political Division for Foreign Affairs. However, the fall of the Girondins on 31 May 1793 led to Otto's dismissal and arrest.

Daughton joined the United States Foreign Service in 1989 after working as an associate at the New York office of the Chicago-based law firm Sidley & Austin. His 30 years as an American diplomat have included overseas assignments at the U.S. embassies in Kingston, Jamaica (1989–1991); Rabat, Morocco (1991–1993); and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2003–2006); and at the U.S. consulate general in Thessaloniki, Greece (1997–2000). Daughton held the first of his three assignments as a deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, Gabon from 2000 to 2003, where he served as chargé d'affaires, ad interim, (2001–20020 during a yearlong gap between ambassadors. He also served as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassies in Algiers, Algeria (2006–2009) and Beirut, Lebanon (2009–2011).

Marine Administration Varna The municipal chief executive is the Mayor (кмет, kmet: the word is cognate with count). Since the end of the de facto one-party communist rule in 1990, there have been four mayors: Voyno Voynov, SDS (Union of Democratic Forces), ad interim, 1990–91; Hristo Kirchev, SDS, 1991–99; Kiril Yordanov, independent, 1999–2013; Ivan Portnih, GERB, 2013–present. The City council (общински съвет, obshtinski savet, the 51-member legislature) is the city's legislative body composed of 51 members. As of January 2015 it consists of: centre-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB), 22 council members; centre-right/right-wing Reformist Bloc Patriotic Front (Bulgaria), 6; centre-left Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), 5; "Varna" Coalition including Attack, 4; other smaller parties, groups and independent members, 14.

They were released by the judge on the same day on conditions, such as they would not be able to leave the country without prior consent and would have to provide details to the police about their accommodation. On 5 December, six jailed members of the deposed government were freed on bail, while four others, including Oriol Junqueras, were required to remain imprisoned. The next day, Spain withdrew the EAW against Puigdemont just over a month after issuing it to Belgian authorities. On 18 November, while in office, Attorney General José Manuel Maza suddenly died and was succeeded ad interim by Luis NavajasLuis Navajas, teniente fiscal del Supremo, releva a Maza hasta que el Gobierno designe un sucesor until the appointment on 11 December of Julián Sánchez Melgar.

Claudio Carosino while carrying out a home visit After graduating from the Medical School at Parma University in 1976, he was offered a condotta (a General Practice Position before the Italian National Health System was established in 1978) ad interim in Roncole Verdi, a rural village near Busseto, and one in Sant'Andrea. In 1978 the SSN (National Health System) was founded by law and Carosino was given a position as a General Practitioner in the same rural area of Busseto, where he had been working since his qualification. He ran three practices within the area (in Roncole Verdi, Sant’Andrea and Samboseto). Many years later, when the SSN was trying to create Health Centers (case della salute) to bring all General Practitioners of the same district together, Carosino worked on the project in the Busseto area.

It was suppressed on 13 April 1991. Mogilev is a city in present-day Belarus, and with the demise of the Soviet Union the Archdiocese's territory and title were merged into its former daughter-suffragan of Minsk (which had often been governed ad interim by its Metropolitan, as Apostolic administrator), in the newly independent country's capital, to create the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Minsk-Mohilev. The territorial boundaries of the new archdiocese were redrawn to include only territory within Belarus. Territories of the former archdiocese falling within present-day Russia were reassigned, first to the Apostolic Administration of European Russia, and subsequently to what are now the Archdiocese of Mother of God at Moscow in the north and the Diocese of Saint Clement at Saratov in the south.

José María Marxuach Echavarría and his wife Josefina Plumey Irizarry In 1897, while holding the post of Primer Teniente de Alcalde of San Juan, he was selected for the post of Mayor ad interim. During his administration San Juan's pedestrian and drainage infrastructure–and thus its general level of sanitation–was greatly improved; other modernizations resulted in the tearing down of a stretch of the city's ancient presidio walls. In the midst of the 1898 U.S. invasion, Dr. Marxuach Echavarría assisted Dr. Coll y Toste (then serving as Vice-President of the Puerto Rican Red Cross) in treating the wounded during the fighting in San Juan. The following year General George W. Davis, the American Military Governor of Puerto Rico, allowed municipal elections to be held for the first time since the U.S. invasion.

On September 11, 2009, Mihai Ghimpu became the acting president of Moldova.ITAR-TASS: Mihai Ghimpu appointed Moldovan acting president The interim position was possible following the resignation of Moldovan President, Vladimir Voronin, announced in the morning of 11 September 2009 on the public broadcaster Moldova 1. The resignation letter was sent to the Parliament secretariat and by a vote of 52 deputies in the plenary session of the legislature was declared vacant the post of the President of the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, in accordance with Article 91 of the Constitution of 1994, which provides that "the responsibility of the office shall devolve ad interim on the President of Parliament or the Prime Minister, in that priority order", Mihai Ghimpu becomes the interim President of the Republic of Moldova until a new president will be elected by the Parliament.

In Iraq she was the International Commissioner ad interim in Iraq for the Constitutional Referendum of October 2005 and stayed until its conclusion. As the International Commissioner, with powers delegated as the international non-voting member of the Iraqi Board of Commissioners, she negotiated the voting of detainees with the Multinational Force, as well as with the Iraqi Ministries of Defense, Interior and Justice. She physically inspected conditions at Abu Ghraib prison to ensure that standards for polling were met (she was the first UN official to be given permission to enter Abu Ghraib), and made recommendations to the Board on appropriate special voting procedures for detainees and for patients in hospitals. With this delegation of authority, she also established the audit of results system that was used when voting patterns had the risk of being contested and she oversaw its implementation.

Until its independence in 1951, Libya had been a colony of Italy (1912–1947) and then under British and French occupation until 1951. In 1949 The UN General Assembly had passed a resolution stating that Libya should become independent before January 1, 1952 (Resolution 289). On December 24, 1951, Libya declared its independence under King Idris. The United States recognized the Kingdom of Libya on December 24, 1951, in a congratulatory message sent by President Harry Truman to King Idris I. Diplomatic relations were established on the same day and the U.S. Consulate-General was elevated to a legation with Andrew Lynch designated as Charge d'Affaires ad interim. The first official envoy to Libya was Henry Serrano Villard, who presented his credentials on March 6, 1952. On December 2, 1979, a mob attacked and burned the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli.

Following the election of 2012 Blok was asked to become Minister for Housing and the Central Government Sector in the Second Rutte cabinet taking office on 5 November 2012. Blok served as Acting Minister of Security and Justice from 10 March 2015 until 20 March 2015 following the resignation of Ivo Opstelten and ad interim Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations from 29 June 2016 until 16 September 2016 during a sick-leave of Ronald Plasterk. On 27 January 2017, Minister of Security and Justice Ard van der Steur resigned to avoid a vote of no confidence, Blok was appointed to serve out the remainder of his term and subsequently resigned as Minister for Housing and the Central Government Sector the same day. He did not stand for the election of 2017 and announced his retirement.

The Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics & Public Responsibility was funded by an endowment of $2.5 million from Cary M. Maguire in 1995. The center is the culmination of years of planning by visionary members of the SMU faculty, then-Provost Ruth Morgan, President ad interim James Kirby, and President Gerald Turner, all of whom believe that in today's hurried world it takes intentional reflection to devise ethical responses to society's problems. The first director (1995-98) was Professor William F. May, who was also the first member of the faculty to occupy the Maguire Chair in Ethics and who more recently held the Cary and Ann Maguire Chair in American History and Ethics in the John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress. Many of the center's current activities and programs were established during Bill May's productive tenure as director.

Before 1829, Internuncio was the title applied to the ad interim head of a mission when one Nuncio had left office and his replacement had not yet assumed it. A legate a latere is a temporary papal representative or a representative for a special purpose. Historically, the most important type of apocrisiary (a title also applying to representatives exchanged by a high prelate with a Patriarch) was the equivalent of a nuncio, sent by the Pope to the Byzantine Empire; during the fifth and sixth centuries, when much of Italy remained under Byzantine control, several popes were former apocrisiaries. Pro-nuncio was a term used from 1965 to 1991 for a papal diplomatic representative of full ambassadorial rank accredited to a country that did not accord him precedence over other ambassadors and de jure deanship of the diplomatic corps.

J. Bruce Amstutz (born 1928) is an American Career Foreign Service Officer who served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim to Afghanistan from February 1979 until February 1980. Amstutz was Deputy Chief of Mission when Ambassador Adolph "Spike" Dubs was kidnapped and murdered. Amstutz became Chargé and sought out by the head of the Afghan Communist regime, Hafizullah Amin. They had met four times for a total of under 20 minutes, mostly for ceremonial events. In October 1979, Amstutz was going on a six weeks leave and had various concerns including telling Washington that “the Afghan Communists as ‘a bunch of scorpions biting each other to death’” and that Amin had “a semi-psychopathic desire to humiliate and revenge himself against the United States.” So Amstutz recommended a delay by himself and the new Deputy Chief of Mission Archer Blood.

In 1836, he moved with his family to the city of Monclova, in Coahuila, Mexico. where in addition to experience security of his nation, lived some of his relatives, including his sister Josefa Músquiz, who was the mother of the first medicine man of Monclova, Don Simón Blanco. Músquiz was known by people of Monclova for his experience in Texas government, so he was appointed political prefect - although as ad interim - in 1853 and 1858. In addition, he was one of the largest shareholders in terms of water rights, in the bags of water from San Francisco and San Miguel (now part of the Pueblo), to whose inhabitants he championed, with others people of Texas, for protect the guarantees of the state governments of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila to them, headed by former resident of Monclova Santiago Vidaurri Valdés.

On 11 September 2009 he became the acting president of Moldova.ITAR-TASS: Mihai Ghimpu appointed Moldovan acting president The interim position was possible following the resignation of Moldovan President, Vladimir Voronin, announced in the morning of 11 September 2009 on the public broadcaster Moldova 1. The resignation letter was sent to the Parliament secretariat and by a vote of 52 deputies in the plenary session of the legislature the post of the President of the Republic of Moldova was declared vacant. Prior to his assignment in Congo, Mountain replaced Sergio Vieira De Mello, the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, at the time serving as a Special Representative of the Secretary General in Iraq who was killed in Baghdad by a terrorist attack on the UN Headquarters on 19 August 2003. Mountain was appointed by Kofi Annan, the United Nations Secretary General at the time, as Special Representative for the Secretary General ad interim on 10 December 2003. The Swedish constitution of 1974 allows the Prime Minister of Sweden to appoint one of the Ministers in the cabinet as Deputy Prime Minister (, also unofficially known as , "Vice Prime Minister"), in case the Prime Minister for some reason is prevented from performing his or her duties.
