The former Engineers' Arms Hotel is a two-storeyed rendered brick building located on what once was a five-way intersection but is now four-way. The site contains two single-storeyed brick buildings to the rear of the hotel. The hotel, which has a hipped corrugated iron roof concealed by a string coursed parapet, is built to the property boundary of an acute angled block, giving it a V-shaped plan, truncated at the corner. The corner is emphasised with the addition of a pedimental element, projecting above the parapet.

Even the construction of large and thick-walled roundels like those at Munot in Schaffhausen built from 1563 to 1585, were an insufficient response to the technology of the time. As a result of its disadvantages the roundel was replaced in many places during the 16th century by the acute- angled bastion with a pentangular ground plan based on Italian practice. The forewings are blackish with two closely parallel whitish median lines from the base, the upper not reaching the middle, the lower continued along the fold to the tornus. There is a whitish dorsal line from the base to the tornus and a very oblique whitish streak from two-fifths of the costa and a very oblique whitish line from one-third of the dorsum, meeting at an acute angle in the disc and produced to near the termen, then shortly acute angled back parallel to the termen. A fine double dark fuscous line suffused with fulvous is found from three-fourths of the costa into the apex, then along the termen to the tornus, on the costal portion margined on each side by fine whitish lines. The hindwings are violet grey.

The outer lip is sharp and thin, not patulous, not descending, advancing at its junction with the body whorl, then retreating so as to form the broad open sinus, acute angled at the periphery, slightly arched across the base, nicked close to the point of the pillar. The columellar lip is arched, strengthened by a thin pad; reverted on the umbilicus so as to leave a slight groove behind it, it has a slight tooth in front.
