Rafiqul Islam (16 July 1950 – 20 November 2013) was a Bangladeshi-born Canadian language activist. He played a major role in achieving recognition of February 21 as the International Mother Language Day, proclaimed by the General Conference of UNESCO in November 1999. He was awarded Independence Day Award posthumously by the Government of Bangladesh in 2016. When Juanes was 17, he started his first band, Ekhymosis, in 1988, which went on to release Eight albums, achieving recognition in his native country of Colombia. The American modernist poet Hart Crane was born in nearby Garrettsville, Ohio in 1899. His adolescence was divided between Cleveland and Akron before he moved to New York City in 1916. Aside from factory work during the first world war, he served as reporter to The Plain Dealer for a short period, before achieving recognition in the Modernist literary scene. A diminutive memorial park is dedicated to Crane along the left bank of the Cuyahoga in Cleveland. In University Circle, a historical marker sits at the location of his Cleveland childhood house on E. 115 near the Euclid Avenue intersection.

The Foundation for Equal Families is a Canadian gay and lesbian rights group founded in 1994 following the failure of Bill 167 in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. The group's mandate is "Dedicated to achieving recognition and equality for same sex relationships and associated family rights through education and legal action". Meeting this mandate was accomplished by intervening in various precedent-setting legal cases, through representation at various pride parades and most notably in suing the Canadian federal government over failure to amend 58 pieces of federal legislation that were charter-infringing due to the definition of spouse.

After 13 years at Downside, then-Abbot Sigebert Trafford instructed Orchard to take on the headship of Ealing Priory School. The school, which had been established in 1902 as a dependency of Downside, was by 1945 in a state in which closure rather than growth seemed the more likely prospect. Orchard, however, threw himself into the task of revitalising the school, which he renamed St Benedict's School, and by 1947 succeeded in achieving recognition by the Ministry of Education as efficient (thus enabling it to participate in the teachers' pension scheme). In the late 19th century and the Industrial Revolution, many farmers migrated to the cities, bringing their families and their Chilean Terriers. Quickly able to adapt to urban life, being used in new industries and new human settlements (CITES) for the extermination of rats. Because of this last factor, Chilean Terriers were identified for most of the last century with the working-class proletarian country element that played against those who were beginning to take the first steps to establish the activity in Chile, mostly immigrants and members of the bourgeoisie of the time, those more interested in the entry and development of foreign breeds in achieving recognition of the Chilean Terrier. Despite the near-zero interest of local breeders of the time he appeared in, the Chilean Terrier continued to be present in the homes of the middle class of the country, further through the comic Condorito and his ever-faithful Washington, a Chilean Terrier which demonstrates «the Chilean» of this little dog.

Saint Peter's Singers (SPS) is a choir of approximately 40 mixed voices. It forms a key component of the choral foundation of Leeds Minster, Saint Peter-at-Leeds, achieving recognition as one of the North of England's finest chamber choirs. Saint Peter's Singers is a Registered Charity – No 507174 – and a member of Making Music, formerly the National Federation of Music Societies. SPS receives much appreciated annual support from the Friends of the Music of Leeds Minster, Leeds City Council, the rector and churchwardens of the parish of Leeds City, the Charles and Elsie Sykes Trust and other charitable bodies and private individuals. Founded in summer 1977, by Harry Fearnley, then senior alto Lay Clerk in the Choir of Leeds Minster, SPS has been directed since its formation by organist and conductor Dr Simon Lindley, FRCO, FRSCM, the Minster's Master of the Music from 1975 to 2016 and now Minster Organist Emeritus – whose colleagues at the Minster have contributed to the development of the singers as did Sybil Chambers (1938–1998), the choir's first principal soprano soloist who taught singing in the first 20 years of the choir's history.
