On 7 July 2006, he was bought by Udinese for a reported €1.2 million, where he firmly established himself as a regular, also achieving a place in the Italian national team during his stay with the Friuli-based side. He made sensational performances during the 2008–2009 Serie A season.

Feys is a technically strong player, but lacks physical strength. Like Frederik Boi, Bram Vandenbussche and Jan Masureel, Feys is a typical youth product of Cercle Brugge: he never played for any other team before achieving a place in the senior squad. Though on 30 June 2007, his contract expired and wasn't renewed. He was signed in the beginning of July 2007 by RC Waregem.

Colchester faced Barnet in the semi-final first leg, and they lost 1–0 at Underhill Stadium. In the return leg at Layer Road, Colchester won 3–1 to defeat Barnet 3–2 on aggregate thus achieving a place in the final and a second trip to Wembley in a year. In the final, the U's faced Torquay United. A David Gregory penalty was enough to separate the sides and promote Colchester to the third tier of English football for the first time in 17 years.

After he retired, Bergodi started working as a coach. After a couple of minor league experiences in Italy, he moved into Romanian football, initially with National Bucharest, before achieving his first major successes as Rapid Bucharest manager, winning the Romanian Supercup on 27 July 2007. He also coached Liga I team CFR Cluj during the 2006–2007 season, achieving a place in UEFA Cup. On 6 October 2007, shortly after Rapid was eliminated from the UEFA Cup in first round, Bergodi resigned, declaring Rapid was "a club of amateurs". In January 2009, after a break, he signed a half year contract with an extension for another 2 years with Liga I club FC Politehnica Iași.

In the next season, the club were unable to qualify for the Champions League proper after losing to Arsenal, but progressed as far as the round of 16 in the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League, being eliminated by Dutch side AZ. They finished the 2011–12 Serie A in third place, the best result in the club's history, equalling Alberto Zaccheroni's 1996–97 season, again achieving a place in the qualifying round for the 2012–13 UEFA Champions League. In his third season at Udinese, Guidolin again failed to reach the Champions League proper, losing on penalties to Braga, but this time also finished bottom of their group in the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League. In the Serie A table, the club finished fifth, reaching the Europa League qualifying round for a third time.
