HoBoLeMa was an improvisational instrumental supergroup which consisted of Allan Holdsworth, Terry Bozzio, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto. The group toured Japan in November 2008, the West Coast of the United States in January 2010 and Europe in April and May 2010. The name "HoBoLeMa" comes from combining the first two letters of each of their last names. HoBoLeMa performed shows without any written music, improvising multiple live sets with breaks in between.

One of the most important sources in piobaireachd, the Nether Lorn manuscript, is exclusively written in canntaireachd. Ceòl Beag : Literally meaning little music, a Highland bagpiping term referring to, essentially, anything that is not piobaireachd. The term is of relatively recent origin.

Tim Bricheno (born Timothy John Bricheno, 6 July 1963, Huddersfield, Yorkshire) is an English guitarist, songwriter and music teacher. He was a member of several notable English indie bands, including All About Eve, The Sisters of Mercy, XC-NN (originally "CNN") and Tin Star. He has also played as a tour guest and recorded with The Mission. Bricheno has written music under several pseudonyms for media compositions including Dusty Springfield and Gene Pitney.

300px Kustbandet is a Swedish jazz orchestra founded as a school band in Stockholm in 1962 by Christer Ekhé (né Jansson) and Kenneth Arnström. Originally playing in traditional New Orleans jazz style and, as the band grew, moving towards big band style as played by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Luis Russell, Jelly Roll Morton et al. in the 1920s - 1930's. Up to the mid-1970s Arnström was the musical leader of Kustbandet and no written music was used.

Kraggerud was born in Oslo. He studied with Camilla Wicks, Emanuel Hurwitz, and Stephan Barratt-Due, before embarking on a career that has brought solo appearances thought Europe, Russia and United States. He made his American debut as a recitalist in 1998 at Carnegie Hall, and has collaborated in recitals and chamber-music performances. A leader-soloist of chamber orchestras and sinfoniettas, Kraggerud is skilled at improvisation, and is an experienced composer, having written music arrangements and his own cadenzas.
A total of 15 poems by Mesomedes are known. Mesomedes continued in the Musaeum in Alexandria even after Hadrian's death (138); there the Historia Augusta reports that during Antoninus Pius' reign, 138-161 his state salary was reduced. The emperor Caracalla 212-217 honored Mesomedes with a cenotaph approximately a 50–60 years after his death. Prior to the discovery of the Seikilos epitaph in the late 19th century, the hymns of Mesomedes were the only surviving written music from the ancient world.
After the breakup of Big Faith, Tait pursued a career in advertising and promotion with a company that produced jingles. Tait has written music for various ads including the BMW MINI when it was re-launched in Canada in 2002. In 2003, Tait released a solo album entitled Hello… my name is Chris Tait, which he produced independently in Canada. Field continued to combine his solo career with production, songwriting and arranging. He has also written music for film, television and advertising (including British Rail, the Cabbage Patch Kids, Astro Farm, Guinness, Australian TV and the Tokyo Motor Show). Field's song "Testify to Love", co- written with Ralph van Manen and Henk Pool, reached No. 1 on the Christian Songs for Avalon.

He performed on a worldwide tour and won several musical awards from 2005-2016. A fife is a woodwind instrument in the transverse flute family, which sounds an octave above the written music and has 6 tone holes (some have 10 or 11 tone holes for added chromatics). Most fifes are wood - blackwood, grenadilla, rosewood, mopane, pink-ivory and other dense woods are superior; maple and persimmon are inferior, but often used, particularly as entry-level instruments. Some corps have used metal fifes. In Civil War corps, bugles are sometimes part of the instrumentation.

After instruments were procured, one had to teach players to play on these instruments, and this was an additional problem because written music for these instruments did not exist, and here Haydamaka had to arrange and compose music for the instruments. The scores had to be written and parts copied out and to form this mass into one orchestral whole. Haydamaka did all this himself and did it the best way he could. Within 7 years the orchestra had given over 500 concerts.

He has also played a wide range of music. He is probably best known for free improvisation, but has also written music for film and television and has been involved with a number of pop music groups.
The music played in Gypsy style is usually of Hungarian, Romanian or Russian origin. But also melodies from Czech, Bulgarian or other East European origin may be used. The Hungarian melodies are always played in a strict succession: first the slow movements, ballads or lassans, then the medium tempo palotas and thereafter the fast czardas or the even faster friss czardas. A special role is played by the nóta, written music in a folk-style, but played by heart in Gypsy style.
On July 7, 2014, he released the album Vocaloholic, and later that month, he left My Eggplant Died Yesterday to form a new band called Grilled Meat Youngmans. Murray Attaway (born November 30, 1957) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the Marietta, Georgia jangle pop/alternative metal band Guadalcanal Diary. After the band's breakup, Attaway recorded one solo album, titled In Thrall, which was released by DGC Records in 1993, produced by Tony Berg. Attaway also had the track "Allegory" featured on DGC Rarities, Vol. 1. As a film composer, he has also written music for a number of independent films.

Mark Levenson, a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, is a musical director for The Second City Detroit (located in Novi, Michigan). Levenson helped open Second City Detroit in 1993. In addition to his work with The Second City Detroit, Levenson scored the hit Comedy Central series, Strangers with Candy. He has also written music for shows on MTV, VH-1, NBC and scored productions at both Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

"I Can't Escape from You" is a song written music by Richard A. Whiting and lyrics by Leo Robin for the 1936 Paramount Film "Rhythm on the Range", and first introduced in the film when Bing Crosby sang it to Frances Farmer. Crosby recorded it for Decca Records that same year with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and it was in the hit parade for 11 weeks reaching a peak position of No. 7. Crosby recorded the song again in 1954 for his album Bing: A Musical Autobiography.
Aghibasiin- Lessons on How To Defeat Death was a collection of demos and unreleased tracks compiled by Shadow Face Records, limited to 1000 copies, while Up from the Ashes and River at Dash Scalding both saw limited edition rereleases. 2004 also saw performances with Dissection, and the headlining of the Winter Storm Festival in Bulgaria. In early 2004, Nordvargr, who had previously written music for River at Dash Scalding, joined the band. The band then recorded Discipline Manifesto, both in Athens, Greece and Oslo, Norway.
Cresswell has written music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, choir, voice and solo instruments. His works include several concertos. His concerto for accordion, Dragspil (Icelandic for "accordion"), was commissioned for the BBC Proms and premièred by James Crabb and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 1995 season. One common running gag was Max's awkwardness on camera and his apparent lack of chemistry with Conan. Nick Phoenix (born 1967) is a London-born composer and a co-founder of the production music company Two Steps from Hell. He has written music for a number of high-profile trailers, with over 1000 noted scores and placements in total. Since 1997, he has been involved in composing film trailer music and producing virtual instrument libraries for EastWest Sounds. In 2006, he formed Two Steps from Hell with his business partner, Thomas Bergersen, and the two publicly released the album Invincible in 2010.
The film featured a number of original songs for which Ridley himself had written the lyrics. The music for these songs were composed by Ridley's long-time collaborator Nick Bicât who had previously written music for productions of Ridley's stage plays and films. African musicians aim to express life, in all its aspects, through the medium of sound. Each instrument or part may represent a particular aspect of life, or a different character; the through-line of each instrument/part matters more than how the different instruments and parts fit together. African music does not have a written tradition; there is little or no written music to study or analyze. This makes it almost impossible to notate the music – especially the melodies and harmonies – using the Western staff.
A lead sheet is often the only form of written music used by a small jazz ensemble. One or more musicians will play the melody while the rest of the group improvises an appropriate accompaniment based on the chord progression given in the chord symbols, followed by an improvised solo also based on the chord progression. Similarly, a sufficiently skilled jazz pianist is able to accompany a singer and perform a song by themself using only a lead sheet. Lead sheets are not intended for novices.
Pre-piano, 1946 Rhodes Mark V Rhodes was born in San Fernando, California and became interested in music and architecture. He received a scholarship to study architecture at the University of Southern California but in 1929, as the Depression began, he dropped out to support his family. He began teaching piano when he was 19, and developed his own method that was designed to bridge classical piano instruction, with its reliance on written music, and jazz improvisation. The Rhodes Method was picked up across the United States.

She obtained an honourable mention in Mannheim for the composition Rhapsody in Black, and won at the Guido d'Arezzo” International Polyphonic Competition in Italy in 1978, 1980 and 1984. In the choral area, she wrote the Vocal Symphony in 1965 and later wrote children's choral works such as the prize-winning Little Christmas Cantata. She has also written music for American Wind Symphony Orchestra and other orchestral works.

The entertainment industry was essentially dominated by the Four Heavenly Kings, namely: Aaron Kwok, Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau and Leon Lai. In the early stages in their careers, Jacky Cheung and Leon Lai sang songs with Japanese melodies, but in the early to mid-1990s there was a public outcry for originality in local music. In 1993, the radio broadcasting company Commercial Radio, announced that it would play only locally-written music. The purpose was to encourage local musicians to write their own lyrics.
John Congleton is a Grammy Award-winning American record producer, engineer, mixer and writer. In addition to his production work, Congleton has fronted the alternative rock band the Paper Chase, and writes music for a newer project entitled the Nighty Nite. He has also written music for various other projects, including MTV's Jackass, the Discovery Channel, Friday Night Lights, Evil Lives Here, and several Halloween sound effects/music CDs. He won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album for producing St. Vincent's self-titled album.
John Cardon Debney (born August 18, 1956) is an American composer and conductor of film, television, and video game scores. His work encompasses a variety of mediums and genres including comedy, horror, thriller, and action- adventure. He is a long-time collaborator of The Walt Disney Company, having written music for their films, television series, and theme parks. Debney has been the recipient of three Primetime Emmy Awards, and an Academy Award nomination for his score for Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ (2004).
During Biblical times, the cornet, flute, horn, organ, pipe, and trumpet were also used. During the Middle Ages, hand-written music notation was developed to write down the notes of religious Plainchant melodies; this notation enabled the Catholic church to disseminate the same chant melodies across its entire empire. During the Renaissance music era, the printing press was invented, which made it much easier to mass-produce music (which had previously been hand-copied). This helped to spread musical styles more quickly and across a larger area.
Schuur listened to the radio avidly in her youth; her early musical idols were Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington. She said that as a small child she would often retreat to a closet to sing. Schuur first learned to play the piano by ear. Though she later learned to read braille-written music, she found its use frustrating and impractical since it took away use of one of her hands while playing the piano; however, she frequently used braille-transcribed lyrics in performances and during recording sessions.
Evan Lurie in 2014 Evan Lurie (born September 28, 1954 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) is an American composer and musician. Playing piano and occasionally organ, Evan was a founding member of the band The Lounge Lizards, along with his saxophonist brother John Lurie. He has composed music for films and TV programs, including the children's show The Backyardigans, which features a different musical genre in every episode. Other notable productions he has written music for include Joe Gould's Secret (2000) and Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge (1996).
His work in film began with composing the score for Withnail and I, directed by Bruce Robinson in 1987, followed by Robinson's second film How To Get Ahead in Advertising. Both were produced by Handmade Films. Wentworth's TV credits include the Jonathan Creek (series and specials), four seasons of the ITV drama Ultimate Force for Bentley Productions, Between the Lines and Cracker for which Wentworth received a BAFTA nomination. He has also written music for many advertising campaigns, including Nissan, Kellogs, American Express, Burger King, American Airlines, Ford and Guinness.

Dagfinn Koch (born 24 July 1964, Kristiansund, Norway) is a musician. He studied at the State Academy of music (Norges musikkhøgskole) (Lasse Thoresen, composition; Olav Anton Thommessen, orchestration; Bjørn Kruse, arranging; Mads Claesson, Arild Erikstad og Tore Simonsen, music technology; Otto Berg, viola), and at Hochschule (now Universität) der Künste Berlin (Witold Szalonek, composition). He has been freelancing since 1994, and has written music for orchestra, chamber and theatre music, opera, ballet and fine art installations. Besides that has he worked as an arranger for amongst others Finn Coren and Lucifer Was.
He also performed with clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera on stage, at Birdland, Blue Note, the Caramoor Festival and in the recording studio. He joined the Paquito D'Rivera Quintet for the recording of Funk Tango, which includes Otero's composition Milonga 10. For Funk Tango, The Paquito D'Rivera Quintet received in 2008 the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album. He has received commissions from performers and institutions worldwide and has written music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, string quartet and choir, as well as for solo instruments including piano, violin and cello.

Many of his early songs expressed his skepticism about how one should live their life. In addition to his well-known ballads, he was strongly influenced by his father's experience as a victim of radiation poisoning following the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, and many of his songs have a very strong protest song tone, likely the most of any "big name" singer in Japan. He has written music for many other artists, including Momoe Yamaguchi, and Akiko Wada. He is affectionately referred to as "Hamasho" by many of his fans.

First, Nathaniel Shilkret's grandson, Niel Shell, had begun organizing the Shilkret archives and eventually was able to make all the written music available to Free, who transcribed over a period of several years the full orchestra, band and chamber orchestra arrangements using Sibelius music notation software.
Another story had it that Gås-Anders's wife once put a Bible on top of his fiddle, and after that it would never stay tuned. Gås-Anders left a legacy of folk music, upwards of 150 different melodies; both tunes he himself had written and those he had learnt from other fiddlers. Most of the tunes are eighth-note polskas. Since fiddlers at the time played by ear, not from written music (something which is true for traditional folk musicians today as well), much of Gås-Anders's music was never saved for posterity.
A 17th-century timpani Although the timpani was still considered primarily an outdoor instrument, it started being used during indoor concerts to provide rhythmic support for trumpet fanfares. Most of the time, players would not have written music to follow because parts were handed down from generation to generation and were learned by rote. By the 17th century, the timpani moved indoors for good and composers began to demand more from timpanists than ever before. The timpani was first introduced to the court orchestras and opera ensembles as well as in larger church works.
Ex's With Benefits formed in 2012 after Vincent had written music for possible future recordings by Green River that never materialized. Not wanting the music to go to waste, he held on to it hoping to hear what it sounded like with vocals. In 2005, Serneholt called Jörgen Elofsson, who had written music for Britney Spears and Céline Dion. Elofsson was busy with other artists at the time, but Serneholt was adamant to have him produce an album for her. When she contacted him again later that year, he had just started collaborating with two relatively young and unknown producers, Richard Brandén and Pär Westerlund. Serneholt at Gatufesten in Sundsvall, Sweden, in July 2006 Elofsson created the label Planet Six (a part of Sony BMG), and Serneholt signed her first recording deal as a solo artist.
The backing band was named Burčiak (Federweisser) and with this group Ursiny released also another album "Modrý vrch", which is considered to be his best by the most of his fans and the critics. By this time he had written music to various films, including popular television musical "Neberte nám princeznú" (Don't take the princess away from us), with its songs performed by singers Marika Gombitová, Miroslav Žbirka and Marie Rottrová. Songs from this musical are for sure most remembered by the people from all the music ever written by Ursiny.
Benjamin Dearborn's singing school announcement in the New Hampshire Gazette, April 5, 1783 The first American singing schools began in New England in the early 1700s as an effort to spread the use of written music in congregational singing. In some denominations, controversies existed on whether congregations should sing audibly, and whether singing should be limited to the Psalms of David. This New England controversy centered around "regular singing" versus the "usual way". The "usual way" consisted of the entire congregation singing in unison tunes passed on by oral tradition, often by lining out.
Dwight Baker and Patricia Lynn played their first show on July 4, 2013 in Austin, Texas, opening for Bob Schneider. Previously, Lynn had been the lead singer of the Soldier Thread and Baker worked both in front of the microphone as well as in the recording studio for Alpha Rev, Brandi Carlile, Blue October, and Bob Schneider. In addition, Baker has also written music for Kelly Clarkson, and is the owner/operator of Matchbox Studios in Austin. Signed to RCA Records in 2013, their debut album, From the Wreckage, was released on August 5, 2014.
Mikael Karlsson has collaborated with the choreographer Alexander Ekman on several occasions. He has, among other things, written music for Ekman's ballets and sets of Tyll and Midsummer Night's Dream at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Sweden and Swan Lake on the Oslo Opera in Oslo, Norway. They became good friends when Ekman's sister moved into the apartment that Karlsson inhabited in NYC. Mikael Karlsson has, in addition to classic sets, also made music for film and TV and collaborated with pop artists such as Andreas Kleerup, Lykke Li and Alicia Keys.

Sergey Fyodorovich Letov (, born September 24, 1956), is a Russian musician and composer, known for his improvisational style. He is the founder of the recording label Pentagram. He has collaborated with numerous jazz, avant- garde, modern classical, rock and electronic music artists, including his younger brother Yegor Letov, composer Sergey Kuryokhin, and cult Soviet art punk band DK. Letov has written music for movies and plays, collaborating with Russian, Italian and Austrian theatres, the German non-profit cultural association Goethe-Institut, and the Moscow Institute of Journalism and Literature.
The group have consistently used synthesizers and electronic effects to create their theatrical and atmospheric soundscapes, and from 1984 they began to work with samplers. The group has featured a variety of musicians in their line up, including long-time collaborator Jocke Söderqvist, who rejoined the group in 2013 for club and festival concerts based around some of their earlier works. They have also written music for theatre (including several works for the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm), television, film and radio. The group also composed the soundtrack to the PlayStation video game, Kula World.
Among them were saxophonist Pete Christlieb and drummer Jeff Porcaro; several members of the Eagles sang backing vocals. At the time of its release, Aja was enjoying critical and commercial success, leading some listeners to incorrectly assume that "FM" was also on that album. Since then, it has been included on some of the band's compilation albums. It was the first time Becker and Fagen had written music for a film since 1971's You've Got to Walk It Like You Talk It or You'll Lose That Beat, a year before Steely Dan's debut album.

Here it was typically found onstage associated with the presence of the god Apollo, or blended in proto- continuo offstage ensembles. The Pesaro Manuscript, from the mid-16th century, an important document in the history of the Lira, records a Passemezzo Moderno, (contemporary dance measure) written in lira tablature. Discovered in the town of Pesaro, on the Adriatic coast, this strange, mutilated script is the sole surviving example of written music for the Lira. It suggests at least the possibility that the instrument was being used as a dance instrument by this time.

Daniel Breitholtz, born 18 October 1977, is a former A&R-manager; at Sony BMG. Together with voice coach Kishti Tomita, manager and talent scout Peter Swartling and producer, musician and disc jockey Claes af Geijerstam he was part of the Idol 2004, Idol 2005, Idol 2006 and Idol 2007 jury. Breitholtz has a history with artists like Whitney Houston, Westlife, Outkast and Toni Braxton. Breitholtz has also been a publisher for some of the most successful songwriters, who have written music for Celine Dion, Britney Spears, Westlife and Christina Aguilera among others.
Additionally, Presser also got involved in theater work. His first musical appeared at the Vígszínház (Comedy Theatre of Budapest) in Budapest, an adaptation of Tibor Déry's novel titled An Imaginary Report from an American Pop Festival. Presser has written music for several theatre pieces at the Comedy Theatre of Budapest. He has been the music director of the theatre since 1978 and has his own evening shows there. His first solo album came out in 1982, titled Electromantic, which was originally the music for a ballet piece titled The Rehearsal written for electric instruments.

For example, ancient instruments from Mesopotamia, China, and prehistoric sites around the world reveal details about the music they produced and potentially something of the musical theory that might have been used by their makers (see History of music and Musical instrument).
Archaeological studies have never discovered any written music from the pre- colombian era, but musical instruments were found, as well as carvings and depictions, that clearly show how music played a central role in the Mayan religious and societal structures, for example, as accompaniment to celebrations and funerals. Some Mesoamerican civilizations, such as the Maya, commonly played various instruments such as drums, flutes and whistles. Although most of the original Mayan music disappeared following the Spanish colonization, some of it mixed with the incoming Spanish music and exists to date.
Both hands play their single notes at the same time. Only two types of notes appear in the score: whole notes and stemless black notes (more free as to their duration). It has only 15 bars of written music: the first bar has the low bass octave. From there onwards begins the following pattern: the second bar has one note-head and one whole note, the next bar has two quarter notes and a whole note, and so on until a bar that has seven quarter notes and a whole note.
Anderson is still producing and songwriting to this day. Anderson currently has produced and co-written music for comedic celebrity Anjelah Johnson, also known as Mad TV's Bon Qui Qui, for her comedy rap album, Gold Plated Dreams for Atlantic Records. The group performed at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, toured Japan, and released the album L'Image 2.0. In 2010 Levin toured with HoBoLeMa, a group consisting of Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Levin on bass, and Pat Mastelotto and Terry Bozzio on drums. All their shows were completely improvised with no written music. Sue Ennis is a songwriter from Seattle, Washington. She co-wrote many songs with Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of the band Heart, including the Heart songs "Straight On", "Even It Up" and "Dog & Butterfly", and has been a member of the band The Lovemongers with the Wilsons and Frank Cox. Originally from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. She has co-written music as part of other works: With John Barry and Ann and Nancy Wilson, Ennis co-wrote "The Best Man in the World" from the 1986 film The Golden Child.

His music has been described as “intensely dramatic yet deeply formal,” "intellectually engaging, explosive with imagination and with a satisfying visceral power," balancing “diatonic pastoralism with acerbic angularity, Stravinskian rhythmic urgency with lyrical counterpoint.” Among his most critically acclaimed works are "Circling," Sonata for Solo Violin, 2nd Piano Trio, and Amichai Songs.
Read has written music to accompany many poems written by John Betjeman. Thirty of these songs were recorded by artists including Cliff Richard, David Essex, Gene Pitney and Marc Almond for the 2006 various artists' album Words/Music, and subsequently re- released in 2008 as a double CD titled Sound of Poetry. On 19 October 2011, Read was presented with a BASCA Gold Badge Award in recognition of his contribution to music. In 2014, Read wrote and recorded "UKIP Calypso" in support of the UK Independence Party (UKIP).

McGovern is a former member of the RTÉ Players and the Abbey Theatre Company. He has worked in theatre, film, radio and television, as well as written music for many shows, and co-written two musicals and directed plays and operas. He is known internationally for his award-winning one-man Beckett shows I'll Go On and Watt which the Gate Theatre presented at the 1985 and 2010 Dublin Theatre Festival respectively. McGovern revived "I'll Go On" for a run at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City for L.A.'s Center Theatre Group in 2014.
Robin Romesh Casinader is an Australian composer, arranger, and multi- instrumentalist. He has been a member of many bands including Plays with Marionettes with Hugo Race, the Wreckery with Race and Nick Barker, and Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes. He has also performed and written music for his solo projects and bands which have included Hood (which featured Pearly Black) and The Vanishing Lady. His two solo albums have featured other musicians singing the majority of the lead vocals: Chris Wilson provided vocals for All This Will Be Yours and Pearly Black was the featured singer on Useful Tunes.
Barði Jóhannsson (born 10 September 1975) is an Icelandic musician, composer, writer, TV show host (of the surrealist Icelandic TV show Konfekt), clothing designer and film director. He is mostly known for his work with the groups Bang Gang, Lady & Bird (a side project with Keren Ann) and Starwalker, a collaboration with Jean-Benoît Dunckel. In addition to these musical outlets, Barði has been involved in a number of other audio-visual projects. Most significantly, he has written music for commercials and for the National Theatre of Iceland and Centre Dramatique d'Orleans (Museum of the Sea by Marie Darrieussecq).
From 1990 he became a performer and teacher and toured throughout the Middle East and Europe. Mukhtar has written music for plays and documentaries for Arabic TV stations, such as MBC, ART, Mustakela and BB5, he also has composed music for a new Iraqi-European version of Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier's Tale) that produced at The Old Vic at the end of January 2006. He released two CDs, in 1996 and 1999, both of which contain traditional music and original work. ARC music Company realized two CDs (rhythm of Baghdad-2003) and (Road to Baghdad-2005) for Mukhtar composition.
Gurley has written theme songs for three Disney Channel television series, with the best known being "American Dragon", the theme song for Disney’s animated series American Dragon: Jake Long, which was sung by The Jonas Brothers. His song "Stick Hippo" was used for the Disney Channel movie Prom. He has also written music for the Nickelodeon channel show SpongeBob SquarePants, and his music has been used in a variety of television shows and movies. Gurley, along with Joie Calio of dada, wrote the song "I'm Feeling Nothing," which is the opening song for The Brady Bunch Movie.

The film won the 2019 Venice Biennale Award for the Best Virtual Reality Story (For Linear Content). He also composed the score for the film The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, an EbonyLife Film which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. A Voice for Ella by Uche Macaulay, Sunshine produced by Alpha Vision, Bent Arrows by Isang Awah and Communication for Change’s Bayelsan Sillhouttes are further examples of conservatories, films and stage performances for which Cobhams has written music scores.
Many musical acts have written music with their origins, suburbs or Melbourne in general as their subject matter. Singer Paul Kelly wrote several well-known songs about aspects of the city close to the heart of many Melburnians, notably "Leaps and Bounds" and "From St Kilda to King's Cross", while bands like Australian Crawl and Skyhooks wrote some more tongue-in-cheek songs about Melbourne; "Balwyn Calling", "Carlton (Lygon Street Limbo)" and "Toorak Cowboy" are examples. The Living End wrote a song entitled "West End Riot" about differences between eastern and western suburbs in Melbourne's inner city.
Vedder has admitted that while working on the album he suffered from writer's block, which made it difficult for him to come up with lyrics. This inspired the hidden track "Writer's Block" - which consists of the sounds of a typewriter - that appears at the end of the album, starting at 6 minutes and 50 seconds on the track "Parting Ways". Vedder had written music for several songs, including "Insignificance" and "Grievance", but was having trouble coming up with lyrics for the songs. He decided to not write any more music, and to focus only on lyrics, even banning himself from playing guitar.
Most early written classical music was predominantly sacred; collections of written music and literature were held by monasteries, cathedrals, and other religious establishments, such as church music societies, offices, and seminaries. As universities emerged in the 12th century, libraries formed throughout Europe, and obtained donations or gifts from monasteries and private collectors. The advent of national and centralized libraries two centuries later allowed for greater attention to special materials like music collections. Eric Nathan Robertson (born 6 April 1948) is a Scottish composer, organist, pianist, and record producer who has been primarily active in Canada. A two time Gemini Award winner, he has composed more than 60 film scores and written music for a number of television series in Canada and the United States. He has also written a considerable amount of choral and organ music, sometimes with instrumental or symphonic accompaniment. His works display a strong influence of Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Wood, and William O. Minay, the latter of whom he studied with for over 30 years.
Arriola at the age of three, could read neither music nor written language and thus his process of composition was highly unconventional. He would sometimes use a blank piece of paper, indicating the nature of the piece (sonata, waltz, etc.) with a symbol at the top followed by arbitrary lines and notes which was the written music for the piece. Afterward, he is described as setting the paper down in front of him saying “I will play that” and proceeding to improvise remarkably well. His pieces were described as having a “richness of astonishing expression” ranging from the tragic to the merry.
Ito's music is mainly inspired by images from the game rather than outside influences; however, he never played the games themselves. The only video games that he plays are sports games; he has only seen up to the introductory movie for most of the role-playing games that he has written music for. While many of his pieces are orchestral, he enjoys working in a recording studio and enjoys composing "normal songs" as much as his orchestral works. His favorite video game music from other composers include the music from Star Fox, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Wizardry and Nobunaga's Ambition.
In 1982 the group released Nexus and Earle Birney, a triple-album collaboration with noted Canadian poet Earle Birney. The group recorded an album for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Dance of the Octopus, in 1990 with harpist Judy Loman. In 1990, Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu wrote a concerto for percussion ensemble and orchestra entitled From me flows what you call Time for the group. Dozens of other composers have written music specifically for Nexus and for individual members of Nexus, and the group's members are also composers and arrangers, writing for Nexus and, on occasion, for others.
The opera libretto from its inception (ca. 1600) was written in verse, and this continued well into the 19th century, although genres of musical theatre with spoken dialogue have typically alternated verse in the musical numbers with spoken prose. Since the late 19th century some opera composers have written music to prose or free verse libretti. Much of the recitatives of George Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess, for instance, are merely DuBose and Dorothy Heyward's play Porgy set to music as written – in prose – with the lyrics of the arias, duets, trios and choruses written in verse.

Spaeth grew up in a family where no member was a musician nor an artist. When was three years old, his father took him to a Toys-R-Us and told him he could pick any toy in the store. He chose a yellow dinosaur- shaped toy piano, which planted the seed for his father to place him in piano lessons. In a move that would later enhance his composer's ear, his father placed him in Suzuki piano lessons, a method known for teaching children to play an instrument by listening to recordings as opposed to simply written music, when he was five .

Mason has remixed or produced tracks for UK artists such as Craig David, The Sugababes, Richie Dan, Artful Dodger, and So Solid, and has co-written music with producers and songwriters such as Pam Sheyne (Christina Aguilera), Henry Jackman (Seal) and Rick Mitra (Lu Lu, Christina Aguilera).
The roots of most Cuban music forms lie in the cabildos, a form of social club among African slaves brought to the island. Traditional Afro-Cuban styles, include son, Batá and yuka and Rumba. The Cuban contradanza, which became also known as the Habanera, the first written music to be rhythmically based on an African rhythm pattern, gained international fame in the 19th century. The habanera "El Arreglito" composed by the Spanish musician Sebastian Yradier, was adapted to become one of the most famous arias in Georges Bizet's 1875 opera Carmen, "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle".
Wilms wrote seven symphonies, the one in F major was lost and the others sank into obscurity after his death. The chronology of the five early symphonies is not clear even to experts. His Symphony No. 6 in D minor, which won first prize at the Société des Beaux-Arts Ghent, and Symphony No. 7 in C minor were recorded in 2003 by Concerto Köln for Deutsche Grammophon. Due to a misunderstanding about publication dates, conductor Werner Ehrhardt at first thought that Wilms had lived in a later period and therefore had written music in an antiquated style.
Bill Milbrodt is a composer and creator of the "Car Music Project", a band that plays music on instruments made from car parts.Car Magazine The instruments have names like "exhaustaphone", "tank bass", "doorimba", "tube flute", and "percarsion". The band plays music that is written by Milbrodt and also does improvising in which the written music is played by some members of the band while other members improvise, sometimes several at one time. Milbrodt won an Emmy Award in New York City for a 1991 musical score he composed electronically for a short avant-garde video called "American Venus".
LP Duo is very active in the fields of theater and visual arts. They have composed and performed music for theaters Atelje 212, National Theater in Belgrade, Yugoslav Drama Theater, Belgrade International Theatre Festival, Pinokio Puppet Theater, Duško Radović Theater, National Theatre Sombor, National Theatre Kikinda, Celje City Theatre and others. They have written music for the TV series Žigosani u reketu by Dragan Bjelogrlić, Dug moru by Goran Gajić and Jutro će promeniti sve by Goran Stanković and Vladimir Tagić. They performed the closing track of the film Ederlezi Rising written by composer Nemanja Mosurović.
The music of the ancient Mayan courts is described through native and Spanish 16th-century texts and is depicted in the art of the Classic Period (200-900 AD). The Maya played instruments such as trumpets, flutes, whistles, and drums, and used music to accompany funerals, celebrations, and other rituals. Although no written music has survived, archaeologists have excavated musical instruments and painted and carved depictions of the ancient Maya that show how music was a complex element of societal and religious structure. Most of the music itself disappeared after the dissolution of the Maya courts following the Spanish Conquest.
The debut album Milano Original Soundtrack is the best-selling album in Fnac (distributor of the album) in its release week. In 2016 he was invited together with the French Canadian saxophonist Guy-Frank Pellerin (student and then teacher of the Institute for Art, Culture and Perception founded in Paris by Alan Silva) to perform as a duo at the 30th edition of the Barga Jazz Festival. He collaborates with AMM (Associazione Musica Monteggiori) in Lucca where he founded the Monteggiori Ensemble, an ensemble of improvisers who plays under the direction of different composers alternating improvisation with written music.
James Reynolds (born 1953) studied contemporary music under John Adams, as well as percussion at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and composition in Cologne under Michael von Biel. Informed by many different influences – from Neue Musik, Broadway and European music theatre to avant-garde synthpop – Reynolds’ compositions explore the combination of words, sounds and images. He was Composer in Residence at the Stiftung Laurenz-Haus in Basel and Visiting Artist at the University of California, Santa Barbara. For over three decades, he has written music for literary productions, thrillers, fairytales and children’s radio plays for West German Radio (WDR/Cologne).
Scott Terry by David Apuzzo Scott Terry performing with Red Wanting Blue Scott Terry (born May 15, 1976) is an American songwriter and singer. Since 1996, he has fronted the Americana rock and roll band Red Wanting Blue. Terry is best known for passionate and often emotional live performances, autobiographical writing style and rugged baritone singing voice. Terry has performed live nationally with his band on The Late Show, VH1, has written music used in television and film, and was the subject of “RWB20: Live at The Lincoln Theater” a concert film celebrating the first 20 years of Red Wanting Blue’s career.
A marking of col legno (Italian for "with the wood") in the written music calls for striking the string(s) with the stick of the bow, rather than by drawing the hair of the bow across the strings. This bowing technique is somewhat rarely used, and results in a muted percussive sound. The eerie quality of a violin section playing col legno is exploited in some symphonic pieces, notably the "Witches' Dance" of the last movement of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique. Saint-Saëns's symphonic poem Danse Macabre includes the string section using the col legno technique to imitate the sound of dancing skeletons.

He has also co-written music for films and is an active television/radio presenter and public speaker, appearing regularly on The Today Show, Mornings With Kerri-Anne, 20 to 1 and on the Ovation Channel. After a battle between recording labels, the duo debuted on Warner Music Group with their 2007 single "Hello Hello". This was followed by their Shibuya, Tokyo, Apple Store performance and the subsequent EP Live from Tokyo. On November 8, 2007, a few months after their second single "Manifesto" was released, Kōichi Tabo announced on their website that he stopped appearing on the stage to concentrate on composing the songs. Besides being active behind the scenes as Superfly's composer & arranger, Tabo has also written music for artists such as Charice Pempengco, Mai Fukui, Yuna Ito, Maaya Sakamoto, BECCA, Saki Fukuda, and Asia Engineer.
There are a few notable examples of idiomatic instrumental constraints affecting compositional choices found written music. For example, in the final movement of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major, the final note played in the bass voice of the piano sounds an A0, rather than what would be the tonic G0. This is most likely due to the piano's lowest note being A0 rather than G0, which does not exist on a standard piano. Ravel also makes a similar choice in a climactic moment in Jeux d'eau, ending a falling gesture again on A0, rather than G#0 due to the limitations of the instrument.

He and his wife, Kimberlee, a violinist, now work together as The McCarricks – a live audio visual performance based show. She has also recorded albums with a wide variety of Irish artists including Uilleann piper Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn, The Chieftains, Sharon Shannon, Mary Black, Dónal Lunny, Kate Bush, Christy Moore and American musician Tim O’Brien. She also tours with pipers, fiddlers and singers. Kelly lives on Achill Island and was involved in founding the new Achill International Harp Festival. Kelly is also a composer and has written music for The Abbey, Dublin and the National Theatre of Scotland when they worked together on Theatre Gu Leòr’s Scotties.
There are two CDs of music relating to the Teaching Ballads and the works of Masterharper Robinton and Menolly. "The Masterharper of Pern" was made in 1998 by Anglo-Alaskan duo Tania Opland and Mike Freeman in collaboration with Anne McCaffrey at her request, and features the music of Robinton. The project began as an idea to include written music in the book of the same name, printed on the inner faces of the cover. By the time the composers had written and auditioned the early drafts at the author's table it was clear that making the songs a reality to their creator's satisfaction was finally possible.
Hamasaki had not often written music for games in her career, however previously written two songs for the game Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006, her single "Startin'" and her song "Rainy Day" from the album (Miss)understood (2006). In July 2011, Hamasaki's third extended play Five was announced to be released on August 31, featuring five songs with music videos and commercial tie-ups. In November 2012, a sequel to the same was produced, entitled Tales of Xillia 2. Hamasaki returned to perform the theme song for this game as well: "Song 4 U", which was featured on her extended play Love (2012).
Haydn was one of the first composers to write a pitch change as well as a written out solo for the timpani in a symphonic movement. Until the late 18th century, written music for the timpani consisted of very simple rhythms with the drums usually only being played at major cadence points in the music. It was rare if the timpani were not playing along with the trumpets, and composers would often use the drums to add dramatic effect to trumpet notes and brass chords. However, this compositional pattern began to change as Austrian composer Joseph Haydn started utilizing the timpani in new ways.
Follin's methodology of music was that music is "basically an unconscious experience" that does not and should not "engage your intellect." Rather, Follin believed game music was "more of a sort of atmospheric thing" and had "always written music to be part of something else," intending for the video game (or other media the music is composed for) to provide the image or scene of context. Within his personal experience, Follin always found the hardest part of creating music to be the concept phase, saying "I probably tear my hair out more over arrangement than over anything else." The composer Joel Mandelbaum wrote his Ph.D. thesis on the properties of the 19 EDO tuning, and advocated for its use. In his thesis, he argued that it is the only viable system with a number of divisions between 12 and 22, and furthermore that the next smallest number of divisions resulting in a significant improvement in approximating just intervals is the 31 tone equal temperament. Bekker, by this time, was an established arranger, working in large studios using professional audio recording and processing equipment, but up to this point he had written music by hand. He now established himself as an electronic musician by being the first South African musician to own a Synclavier. Many of Bekker's early New Age albums were composed on Synclavier, and he continued to use it until the mid-90s. Other album projects done in the early 80s included New Age style score for an early IMAX type show at Sun City called "Solar Vibrations", the soundtrack to which was released as an LP.
Neil Bartram is an award winning musical theatre composer/lyricist based in New York. Bartram is the composer and lyricist of Broadway’s The Story of My Life (musical) with book writer Brian Hill (four Drama Desk Award nominations including two for Bartram – Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics). Prior to Broadway, The Story of My Life played at Canadian Stage Company in Toronto and Goodspeed’s Norma Terris Theatre. Neil has also written music and lyrics for Clara’s Piano (Stratford Festival), Somewhere in the World (five seasons at the Charlottetown Festival) and The Nightingale and the Rose, and scored productions of Romeo and Juliet, Timon of Athens and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Many lithographs of the period show her virtually floating, poised only on the tip of a toe. This idea of weightlessness was capitalised on in ballets such as La Sylphide and Giselle, and the famous leap apparently attempted by Carlotta Grisi in La Péri. Other features which distinguished Romantic ballet were the separate identity of the scenarist or author from the choreographer, and the use of specially written music as opposed to a pastiche typical of the ballet of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The invention of gas lighting enabled gradual changes and enhanced the mysteriousness of many ballets with its softer gleam.
Composer David Ludwig David Serkin Ludwig (born 1974, Bucks County, Pennsylvania) is an American composer of classical music. His uncle is pianist Peter Serkin, his grandfather was the pianist Rudolf Serkin, and his great- grandfather was the violinist Adolf Busch. Ludwig has written music for many musicians and ensembles, including Jonathan Biss, André Watts, Jaime Laredo, eighth blackbird, Jennifer Koh, Dolce Suono Ensemble, Mimi Stillman, Network for New Music, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Ludwig has held residencies with Meet the Composer, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the MacDowell and Yaddo artist colonies, and the Marlboro Music School.
He has written music for large and small ensembles, for solo instruments, as well as chamber opera and concertos for solo instruments and orchestra. His works have been performed in many countries such as Canada, USA, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Poland, Spain, England, the Netherlands. Azordegan and actor Mikael Tornving were suspended from their work at Sveriges Radio during a period ahead of the 2010 Swedish general election after breaking the station's policy by openly showing their political views.
Since then Tamir has produced albums with exceptional artists from around the world, and has helped create a unique musical palette. As a member of the instrumental trio Big Lazy, he released The Big Apple's Creme de la Crème, called "primeval, lurid, mournful, frantic, pretty, dissonant, stark, lush" by The Village Voice and "elegantly gritty stunningly beautiful music" by The New Yorker. Big Lazy has written music for various films, and toured with The White Stripes, John Spencer Blues Explosion, Reverent Horton Heat, Tom Tom Club and Firewater. In 2002, Tamir launched an electro/gypsy/punk project called J.U.F., with Ori Kaplan and members of Gogol Bordello.

In another tape, he talked in detail about pipemaking, and in a third he recalled Tom Clough, Richard Mowat, G.G. Armstrong and 'Kielder Jock' Davison. The recordings also include some of his playing, including his own 'Foxglove Hornpipe'. In the 1986 interview he remembered these musicians, and stated that Mowat was one of the best pipers ever, recalling his playing of the air "Caller Herrin"; he also recalled the playing of Harry Clough and Tom Clough, whose special tune was the variation set on "Maggy Lauder". He noted that formerly, most pipers were ear players, while nowadays they tend to play from written music; he preferred a happy medium.

A note marked pizz. (abbreviation for pizzicato) in the written music is to be played by plucking the string with a finger of the right hand rather than by bowing. (The index finger is most commonly used here.) Sometimes in orchestra parts or virtuoso solo music where the bow hand is occupied (or for show-off effect), left-hand pizzicato will be indicated by a + (plus sign) below or above the note. In left-hand pizzicato, two fingers are put on the string; one (usually the index or middle finger) is put on the correct note, and the other (usually the ring finger or little finger) is put above the note.

He makes use of musical archetypes from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries as well as 20th century archetypes he has devised himself with the intent making new but accessible music.Newman, Anthony, Anthony Newman on Harmony Newman has written music for a range of instruments including organ, harpsichord, orchestra, guitar, violin, cello, flute chamber ensemble, piano, choral music and opera. In 2011, Newman released a 20-CD set of his most important compositions on 903 Records.
In 2012, he won a NIN Award for his novel Bernardijeva soba (Bernardi's Room). Mitrušić finished the Musical Academy studies and moved to Italy. In 2001 she participated the Pesme iznad istoka i zapada (Songs Above the East and the West), featuring Serbian rock musicians performing music to the poems by Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, with the written music and arrangement for the poem "Vladaj, Bože" ("Reign, God"). In 1992 Bulatović, accompanied by former La Strada and, at the time, Obojeni Program members Robert Radić "Robi" (drums) and Zoran Lekić "Leki" (bass guitar), shortly reformed Luna, but the band dissolved soon after due to his moving to New York City.
Until Parasite Eve, Shimomura had written music in a straightforward manner that reflected her then-current state of mind, but this time she restrained herself and took a more "emotionless" approach. She felt that this would best represent the game's atmosphere and Aya's stoic attitude. Ultimately, she felt that Parasite Eve was an experimental work in many ways. Due to its prevalence in the story, Shimomura used opera music, but as typical opera music did not translate well into battle themes, Shimomura added different rhythms: these rhythms were inspired when some of the game's American staff took her to a nightclub and she heard the background music there.
In the winter of 2005, Landberg decided to form his own band (which he would call Jayce Landberg) with former bandmates whom he had met while playing in previous bands, yet still looking for a vocalist. Prior to meeting Göran Edman, Landberg had written music for two songs: Lost Without You and the epic ballad Marilyn which Jayce originally wrote as a classical music piece. The lyrics to the song Lost Without You were later co-written with Edman and the recording resulted in the demo EP of the same name. It was released as a single in Japan & Europe, soon attracting the attention of record companies abroad.

In music, transcription is the practice of notating a piece or a sound which was previously unnotated and/or unpopular as a written music, for example, a jazz improvisation or a video game soundtrack. When a musician is tasked with creating sheet music from a recording and they write down the notes that make up the piece in music notation, it is said that they created a musical transcription of that recording. Transcription may also mean rewriting a piece of music, either solo or ensemble, for another instrument or other instruments than which it was originally intended.
The musical system of ancient Greece evolved over a period of more than 500 years from simple scales of tetrachords, or divisions of the perfect fourth, to The Perfect Immutable System, encompassing a span of fifteen pitch keys (see tonoi below) Any discussion of ancient Greek music, theoretical, philosophical or aesthetic, is fraught with two problems: there are few examples of written music, and there are many, sometimes fragmentary, theoretical and philosophical accounts. A cabaret show featuring songs from The Confidence Man was presented in 1977 at the Manhattan Theatre Club, where Steinman had previously written music for another cabaret show called Bloodshot Wine. In 1977, a brief workshop was held for a work-in-progress musical called Neverland. Adapted largely from the Steinman/Keating source material developed for the Dream Engine, it also loosely sourced material from Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie. While preparing the show, Steinman and Meat Loaf, who were touring with the National Lampoon show, felt that three songs were "exceptional" and Steinman began to develop them as part of a seven-song set they wanted to record as an album.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the film score to the 2002 film of the same name, composed by John Williams and conducted by William Ross. The score was originally supposed to be entirely conducted by Williams, but due to scheduling conflicts with the scoring of Steven Spielberg's film Catch Me If You Can, Ross was brought in to adapt Williams' already-written music and conduct the scoring sessions with the London Symphony Orchestra. Upon its release, the soundtrack was available in one of five different collectible covers. Each cover featured a different character or characters packaged above the main cover featuring Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Starting out as a performer of gothic metal, Vic performed with her own band throughout her whole career amongst co-operations with several other musicians. After she moved to Germany, Vic decided to adjust her performance to the singer-songwriter genre. Vic finds her inspiration for her self-written music in bands, artists and composers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Lisa Gerrard, Edvard Grieg, Queen, Alice in Chains, Tom Waits, and Devin Townsend.
The Mississippi Sheiks consisted mainly of members of the Chatmon family, from Bolton, Mississippi, who were well known in the Mississippi Delta. The father of the family, Henderson Chatmon, had been a "musicianer" (someone with good technical ability on his or her instrument, adept at sight-reading written music) during slavery times, and his children carried on the musical spirit. Their most famous member (although not a permanent member) was Armenter Chatmon, better known as Bo Carter, who managed a successful solo career as well as playing with the Sheiks, which may have contributed to their success. When the band first recorded, in 1930, the lineup consisted of Carter, Lonnie and Sam Chatmon, and Walter Vinson.
The modern atenteben flute, built in B flat and C, was developed by the musicologist, composer and flautist Dr. Ephraim Amu (1899-1995), whose pioneering work established a notated musical tradition for the instrument and included the instrument into the curriculum of major educational institutions in Ghana, notably, the Achimota Secondary School and University of Ghana. The B flat atenteben is a transposing instrument, i.e. its music is written in a tone higher than the actual sounds, but a written music for the C atenteben (also referred to as atenteben-ba) directly agrees with the sounds on piano. It is an end-blown instrument with six top holes and one bottom hole.
The music that people consider today as "jazz" tended to be played by minorities. In the 1920s and early 1930s, however, the majority of people listened to what we would call today "sweet music" and hardcore jazz was categorized as "hot music" or "race music." The largest and most influential recording label of the time, The Victor Talking Machine (RCA Victor after 1928) was a restraining influence on the development of “sweet jazz” until the departure of Eddie King in October 1926. King was well known as an authoritarian who would not permit drinking on the job or severe departure from the written music, unless within solos acceptable by popular music standards of the time.
In later 2012, Noisia also remixed Mark Knight's track, "Nothing Matters", and also "Smack My Bitch Up" for The Prodigy for the re-release of The Fat of the Land. Noisia have also written music for short films as well as various video games, including Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition, Wipeout Pulse, Wipeout HD, and Wipeout HD Fury. They also produced "The Tide", which was featured on Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 and "Stigma" was used in the intro of Gran Turismo PSP. Their song "Groundhog" was featured twice in DJ Hero, first as a mashup with Motörhead's "Ace of Spades '08" then later as a beat juggle by the Scratch Perverts.

As a composer, he has written music for clients including Disney, HarperCollins, Macmillan Education, Mango Languages, and Creative Teaching Press. His first album, World Class People, was released on July 10, 2010 through his independent label Spindlebright Records.
Grey Gallery projects include an award-winning survey show of the sculptor Richard Wilson for the Edinburgh Art Festival 2008 and a solo show by the artist Bob and Roberta Smith 'This Artist is Deeply Dangerous' in 2009. Aside from the Mekons, Honeyman is a member of Little Sparta, a three piece band based in London. Little Sparta has performed their own score live to Lotte Reiniger's 1926 film The Adventures of Prince Achmed at the Edinburgh Festival, and written music to accompany Allan Pollok-Morris's photographic exhibition Close: A Journey in Scotland, which toured the Chicago Botanic Garden and the United States Botanic Garden in Washington in 2011 and opened at the New York Botanical Garden in 2012.
Marsh volunteered to write out the scores to replace the originals, which had been lost, but needed the original multitracked recordings of the album to do so. Five years later, at Heath's urging, Stamey spoke to John Fry at Ardent Studios, where Third/Sister Lovers was recorded. Fry agreed to make some of the original multitracks available so that the written music could be accurately rewritten, and the unwritten parts deciphered, and, after speaking to Stephens—who then managed Ardent Studios—Stamey planned a trip to discuss the project with the reconfigured Big Star, who were rehearsing for a SXSW performance. The night before the meeting, on March 17, 2010, Chilton died of a heart attack.
More recently, Leon performed and arranged songs for a series of albums on Vitamin Records by artists including Neil Young, The Cure, R.E.M. and Pink Floyd. He has also music supervised and written music for a series of interactive and Motion Comics for Marvel, starting with The Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon, and including the recent Captain America: Winter Soldier, which was the first digital comic to have an interactive soundtrack. Other more recent work for Marvel includes Leon being the music supervisor on eight movies co-produced by Lions Gate including Thor: Tales of Asgard and Invincible Iron Man. 2019 found Leon writing a series of songs for the successful Netflix Original series, Super Monsters.
If an instrument has a range too high or too low for composers to easily write its music on bass or treble clef, the music may be written either an octave higher or an octave lower than it sounds, in order to reduce the use of ledger lines. Instruments that "transpose at the octave" are not playing in a different key from concert pitch instruments, but sound an octave higher or lower than written. Music for the double bass is written an octave higher than it sounds. Thus, when cellos and basses are reading exactly the same part (a common practice by composers from the early Classical period), the basses' line is an octave below the cellos'.
Ivor Novello-nominated and Telly Award-winning composer Walter Mair creates original scores for feature films, television drama, commercials, and narrative-driven interactive entertainment such as computer games. Mair studied in Austria, the country of his birth, gaining a degree in music composition for orchestra from the Vienna University and a major in music composition for motion pictures from Salzburg University. He has written the music for the Universal Pictures documentary feature Ronaldo, directed by BAFTA winning director Anthony Wonke. In 2016, Walter Mair scored the music for Toby Tobias’ thriller Blood Orange starring Ben Lamb and Iggy Pop. In television, he has written music for BBC 1’s Cuffs and E4’s teen drama mini- series Glue.

In 2011 he wrote music for the Brazilian movie A Florista do Outro Lado da Praça . As a writer he was awarded the Brazilian poetry prize: Prêmio de Poesia Augusto dos Anjos in 2005.
Jason Christopher Medeiros better known as Mr. J. Medeiros, is an American rapper, record producer, and songwriter. As well as releasing music under the name, Mr. J. Medeiros, he is responsible for forming the Hip Hop group The Procussions, is one half of the Hip Hop/Electronic duo AllttA, and the lead singer of Punk-Rap group thebandknives. He is of Portuguese and Scottish descent. Mr. J. has written music with such artists as 20Syl and French hip hop group Hocus Pocus (group), George "Spanky" McCurdy, Thomas Pridgen, Aaron Spears, Noel Zancanella, Randy Jackson, Marty James, Monte Nueble, Møme, Talib Kweli, Symbolyc One (S1), Illmind, Benny Cassette, and Caravan Palace, among others.
Thompson has scored film and theatre productions. He won an Obie award in sound design for A Huey P. Newton Story in 1997 and has written music for Rikers High (2005), Brother to Brother (2004), Colorvision (2004) (which he hosted in the same year), American Splendor (2003), Urbania (2000), and Twin Falls Idaho (1999). His recording of The Beatles' "Julia" was included on the soundtrack to the film I Am Sam. In 2006, Thompson was enrolled in the line-up for the Bruce Springsteen with The Seeger Sessions Band Tour, playing acoustic guitar, providing backing vocals and sharing the lead vocals on several songs, including "Eyes on the Prize" and "When The Saints Go Marching In".

He has had exclusives mixes on Kiss FM and Australian radio station Triple J. In 2012 Louis hosted an hour- long show for BBC Radio Norfolk as part of the BBC Introducing programme. In addition to radio, La Roche has also written music for television, being featured in the Channel 4 series Skins as well as composing the theme song for Canada's MuchMusic Video Awards.
Traditional British-style brass band parts for the tuba are usually written in treble clef, with the B tuba sounding two octaves and one step below and the E tuba sounding one octave and a major sixth below the written pitch. This allows musicians to change instruments without learning new fingerings for the same written music. Consequently, when its music is written in treble clef, the tuba is a transposing instrument, but not when the music is in bass clef. The lowest pitched tubas are the contrabass tubas, pitched in C or B, referred to as CC and BB tubas respectively, based on a traditional distortion of a now-obsolete octave naming convention.
Hendryx with Gary Lucas, Nina Persson and others at the Best Batch Yet tribute to Captain Beefheart Hendryx still tours and has written music for the theatre, songs for the play with music Blue. Sandra St. Victor (The Family Stand) recruited daughters of famous African American soul/blues icons – including Lalah Hathaway, Simone, Indira Khan, and Leah McCrae – together with "spiritual daughters" Joyce Kennedy, Caron Wheeler, and Nona, to form the group Daughters of Soul, which has enjoyed much success, especially on the European tour circuit. Hendryx formed Rhythmbank, her own record label with Bob Banks, in 2005. They signed and released several EPs and albums, the Showtime series Sleeper Cell, and a gospel album by protégé Najiyah Threatt.
The score mixes chamber orchestral arrangements of strings and horns with more traditional folk instruments, such as the banjo, mandolin, kneeslaps and handclaps. Following the release of Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Hart scored half a dozen independent feature films over the next two years, including Comet (2014), Return to Sender (2015), Uncertain (2015), and Lost in the Sun (2015), Tumbledown (2015), and The Girlfriend Game (2015). Hart and Lowery next teamed up in 2016 for Disney's Pete's Dragon, an adaptation of the 1977 musical film of the same name. Hart's score was written for a 94-piece orchestra and 32-person choir, by far the largest ensemble for which Hart has written music.
Many of these recordings received critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Drowned in Sound. Later recordings have been released on the Grey Gallery label, started by Susie Honeyman. Sarah Class was born in Watford. Having written music and poetry from an early age and performing as a vocalist and pianist in bands since she was a teenager, Class found her inspiration in the lush woodlands, rolling hills and seascapes of the Isle of Wight. Class graduated with a BA (Hons) in music and art from Chichester University, Sussex, England, and immediately thereafter, began to write extensively in Europe and North America on a number of album, TV and film projects, notably the score for the independent feature The Weekend, starring Gena Rowlands and Brooke Shields. This brought Class's talent to the attention of the record producer Sir George Martin, who took her under the wing of his publishing company George Martin Music.
In Germany, the great age of song came in the nineteenth century. German and Austrian composers had written music for voice with keyboard before this time, but it was with the flowering of German literature in the Classical and Romantic eras that composers found inspiration in poetry that sparked the genre known as the lied. The beginnings of this tradition are seen in the songs of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, but it was with Schubert that a new balance was found between words and music, a new expression of the sense of the words in and through the music. Schubert wrote over 600 songs, some of them in sequences or song cycles that relate an adventure of the soul rather than the body.
Leon Schidlowsky (Hebrew: ליאון שידלובסקי; born 21 July 1931 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean-Israeli composer and painter. He has written music for orchestra, chamber ensemble, choir, and instruments including the piano, violin, cello, flute, mandolin, guitar, harp, organ, as well as about sixty- five pieces of music with graphic notation. His compositions have been performed in numerous countries with different orchestras under conductors such as Aldo Ceccato, Errico Fresis, Clytus Gottwald, Juan Pablo Izquierdo, Erhard Karkoschka, Herbert Kegel, Lukas Foss, Zubin Mehta, Hermann Scherchen, and Ingo Schulz. The scores of his graphic music have been shown in various exhibitions linked to concerts, such as in the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Kunsthaus Hamburg, the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen, and the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken.
Types of bar lines Fifteen-bar multirest In musical notation, a bar (or measure) is a segment of time corresponding to a specific number of beats in which each beat is represented by a particular note value and the boundaries of the bar are indicated by vertical bar lines. Dividing music into bars provides regular reference points to pinpoint locations within a musical composition. It also makes written music easier to follow, since each bar of staff symbols can be read and played as a batch. Typically, a piece consists of several bars of the same length, and in modern musical notation the number of beats in each bar is specified at the beginning of the score by the time signature.
Ristic has written music for orchestra, chamber and solo instrumental music, as well as music for movies, the opera and museum/site-dependent installations. As a music theoretician, he has developed the mathematical representation of sound and some model codes to produce music by signal theory and dynamic or static differential systems. The whole music project was arranged by composer George Koumendakis, who had worked in the past several times with Papaioannou and was assisted in this project by Maria Metaxaki. The music production team included Marcus Dillistone, Paul Stefanidis, Dick Lewsey and Julian Scott. New Zealand composer John Psathas (son of Greek immigrant parents) was chosen to compose and arrange music to accompany parts of the opening ceremonies. The most prestigious engagement of his career to date, he joins the ranks of well-known composers, such as John Williams, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Leonard Bernstein and Mikis Theodorakis who have also written music for the Olympics. Mr Psathas was engaged in 2003 to compose and arrange music for the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies.
Earlier in his career, Joyce was a member of synthpop trio Sense, produced by Soft Cell's Dave Ball. Following tours with Depeche Mode and Kim Wilde, they had a hit in France with their single, "Jamie". The band released their only album, Hold On, in 1983. His first television work was the animation Coconuts (ITV 1990). He has since written music for numerous TV series and films: BBC series Noddy's Toyland Adventures (BBC TV 1992-99), The Worst Witch (ITV 1998-2000), The Snow Queen (BBC 2005), Philbert Frog (BBC 1993), Clay (BBC 2008), Diggit (ITV 1998-2001), Knight School (CITV 1997-1998), Budgie the Little Helicopter (CITV 1994), Parallel 9 (BBC 1992-4), Slim Pig (CITV 1996) and Fimbles (BBC 2002-2005).
Moon was born and grew up in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Arizona in 1980. Moon moved to California in 1986. Inspired by the musical works of Chick Corea, Moon has written music for film and animated television series, such as 2 Stupid Dogs, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (Grim & Evil segments only), The Fairly OddParents (for which he received an Emmy nomination), Danny Phantom, and more recently, Tak and the Power of Juju (theme music and three episodes only), Big Time Rush, T.U.F.F. Puppy, Lego Batman, and Back at the Barnyard. He is also credited with composing and orchestrating the music for The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest animation series produced by Cartoon Network.
Reich noted that this piece was developed out of two pieces he had previously written, Music for Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ and Music for 18 Musicians. The piece was written for more musicians than Reich had previously worked with, and included instruments from all sections of the orchestra, including strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion, and female voices. The piece is divided into four sections, each marked by a key change initiated by the metallophone. As in some of his other works from the same time, Reich uses the technique of augmentation in this work, whereby short, rapid phrases are stretched out to become longer lines, which combine contrapuntally with other melodies, then using diminution they are returned to their shorter length.
Mosley was later replaced by Mr. Bungle vocalist Mike Patton, who added lyrics to the already-written music for 1989's The Real Thing. Their next studio album, Angel Dust, moved away from the band's rap-influenced sound to experiment with different musical genres; a trend which became much more pronounced on the 1995 album King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime. Between the recording of the latter two albums, Martin left the band. Reports are mixed as to whether he quit or was fired; however he had stopped contributing to the band's output during the recording of Angel Dust, leaving bass player Billy Gould to record guitar parts for "Another Body Murdered", the band's contribution to the Judgment Night soundtrack.

After his debut in the 90’s with Pesaro’s Mostra Internazionale del Nuovo Cinema within Silent Cinema retrospective, when he plays (always improvising) on David Wark Griffith, Carl Theodor Dreyer, Robert Wiene, Fritz Lang, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, George Melies, Dziga Vertov. The only written music is the original soundtrack for the silent Italian movie Caina (1922, Gennaro Righelli). The “A Silent Christmas” project is composed by 4 silent movies based on Christmas (A Christmas Carol, A Trap for Santa Claus [1925, by Kleinschmidt], A winter straw ride:fr:A Winter Straw Ride). In 2014 he realized the music for piano and organ for “Life and Passion of Jesus” by Ferdinand Zecca.
Siem studied music and poetry at Cambridge University and Harvard University; by her early twenties, she had written music for the London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Opera House, Rambert Dance Company, Opera North, The Aldeburgh Festival, Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, The London Sinfonietta, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2010, she became one of the youngest people to win a British Composer Award. She has also been awarded the Arthur Bliss Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize. Siem has performed at festivals and venues across Europe and the United States, including The Royal Opera House, London; HBC, Berlin; the Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival; (Le) Poisson Rouge, NYC; by:Larm, Joe's Pub, The Forum, London, Latitude Festival by:Larm, Barbican, Southbank Centre and Sadlers Wells.
Grossman's Emmy Award-winning television work includes nearly 100 musical specials, concerts and cabaret for artists including Julie Andrews, Shirley MacLaine Liza Minnelli & Goldie Hawn, Andy Williams, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Joel Grey, Glen Campbell, Sandy Duncan and Ann-Margret. He has written music for four Academy Awards telecasts, three Emmy telecasts, two Tony telecasts The Songwriters Hall of Fame and Liberty Weekend produced by David Wolper. Grossman served as music consultant and composer for The Muppet Show (three seasons), Make Way For Noddy (five years), Christmas in Washington (32 years) and A Capitol Fourth (12 years). For his work in television, Grossman has been awarded six Emmy's, with a total of 17 nominations, as well as a Peabody Award for his contributions to The Muppet Show.
Days before she was to start studying, she was contracted as songwriter for the music publisher Sony/ATV Music Publishing. Diaz dropped out and began an intensive period as an international songwriter, in Stockholm, Nashville, London, Tokyo and Los Angeles. In October 2011 a third Cyco Miko album was released worldwide, featuring previously unreleased and newly written music from Cyco Miko, Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. The album entitled "The Mad Mad Muir Musical Tour - Part 1" featured current Suicidal Tendencies band members as well as performances by Fletcher Dragge, Robert Trujillo, Brooks Wackerman, bassist Thundercat (Stephen Bruner) and saxophonist Kamasi Washington. No Mercy released only one album with Muir, Widespread Bloodshed/Love Runs Red on Suicidal Records. In 1989, not long after Robert Trujillo joined Suicidal Tendencies, Muir and Trujillo formed Infectious Grooves, a funk metal band that often brought out a goofier type of humor: their albums contain comedy skits by a reptilian lover named Aladdin Sarsippius Sulemenagic Jackson III.
The duo had not written music for a film since You've Got to Walk It Like You Talk It or You'll Lose That Beat in 1971, but they knew what producers wanted. "We wrote a song that would sound good with a big production, and an overdub of strings that would sound good coming out of movie-theater speakers," Fagen says in Reelin' in the Years, Brian Sweet's 2007 history of the band. It would be the band's first use of strings in a song since the short "Through with Buzz", on 1974's Pretzel Logic, and the second time in their career overall. When they went to the studio, they were able to record "FM" as quickly as they had written it.
"Star in the East" from the 1854 edition of Southern Harmony Shape notes are a musical notation designed to facilitate congregational and social singing. The notation, introduced in late 18th century England, became a popular teaching device in American singing schools. Shapes were added to the noteheads in written music to help singers find pitches within major and minor scales without the use of more complex information found in key signatures on the staff. Shape notes of various kinds have been used for over two centuries in a variety of music traditions, mostly sacred music but also secular, originating in New England, practiced primarily in the Southern United States for many years, and now experiencing a renaissance in other locations as well.

Walter Anthony Murphy Jr. (born December 19, 1952) is an American composer, arranger, pianist, musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for the instrumental "A Fifth of Beethoven", a disco adaptation of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony which topped the charts in 1976 and was featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack in 1977. Further classical–disco fusions followed, such as "Flight '76", "Rhapsody in Blue", "Toccata and Funk in 'D' Minor", "Bolero", and "Mostly Mozart", but were not as successful. In a career spanning nearly five decades, Murphy has written music for numerous films and TV shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Savage Bees, Stingray, Wiseguy, The Commish, Profit, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Looney Tunes, and How Murray Saved Christmas.
Boyle was the person who taught Cagney George M. Cohan's dancing style, which he later used to good effect in Yankee Doodle Dandy, and Dixon, who staged the dances for Something to Sing About, was Cagney's dance instructor in New York before Cagney's Broadway breakthrough in Penny Arcade in 1930. The dancing is in Cagney's inimitable style, which mixes vaudeville, tap, jigs, and semi-ballet. According to an article in the New York Times, Cagney would occasionally go over his steps with Fred Astaire before the dances were filmed. The songs - "Something to Sing About", "Right or Wrong", "Any Old Love", "Out of the Blue" and "Loving You" - were all written, music and lyrics, by the film's director and scenarist, Victor Schertzinger.

In 2011, Coco Star teamed up with MYNC and Christian Luke for collaborative works involving "I Need a Miracle". Coco Star is also associated with Andy Levy and Simon Bartholomew of the Brand New Heavies with whom she collaborated with during the production of some of her self written music.
Charlotte's Web is a 1973 American animated musical drama film based upon the 1952 children's book of the same name by E. B. White, produced by Hanna- Barbera Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The film, like the book, is about a pig named Wilbur who befriends an intelligent spider named Charlotte who saves him from being slaughtered. The film was directed by Charles A. Nichols and Iwao Takamoto from a story by Earl Hamner Jr., and features the voices of Debbie Reynolds, Paul Lynde, and Henry Gibson, alongside narration by Rex Allen. Charlotte's Web also features a song score of music and lyrics written by the Sherman Brothers, who had previously written music for family films like Mary Poppins (1964), The Jungle Book (1967), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968).

Some of the oldest written music dates back to Confucius's time. The first major well-documented flowering of Chinese music was exemplified through the popularization of the qin (plucked instrument with seven strings) during the Tang Dynasty, although the instrument is known to have played a major role before the Han Dynasty. Bian Lian("Face-Changing") Performer There are many musical instruments that are integral to Chinese culture, such as the Xun (Ocarina-type instrument that is also integral in Native American cultures), Guzheng (zither with movable bridges), guqin (bridgeless zither), sheng and xiao (vertical flute), the erhu (alto fiddle or bowed lute), pipa (pear-shaped plucked lute), and many others. Dance in China is a highly varied art form, consisting of many modern and traditional dance genres.
As in the other arts, the music of the period was significantly influenced by the developments which define the Early Modern period: the rise of humanistic thought; the recovery of the literary and artistic heritage of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome; increased innovation and discovery; the growth of commercial enterprises; the rise of a bourgeois class; and the Protestant Reformation. Since graduating from York University and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, he has written music for film and television, including Pawel Pawlikowski's feature films Last Resort (2000) and The Woman in the Fifth (2011), and Jerry Rothwell's 2008 documentary Heavy Load. As a bass player, he has appeared on albums by Dani Siciliano, Matthew Herbert, Róisín Murphy, Simon Bookish and Plaid and is a member of the Zimbabwean Mbira player Chartwell Dutiro's band. Inspired by Harry Partch, de Wardener has built some unusual percussion instruments for use in his compositions, including a Bass Marimba and a set of "Cloud Chamber Bowls". His work as a classical composer includes commissions for the Elysian String Quartet, the London Symphony Orchestra and a multimedia piece for the percussionist Joby Burgess.
Berge has penned a number of commissioned works, including a work written for the opening of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the opening work for Oslo's Nobel Peace Center and the 2008 European Brass Band Championship test piece Brass Blot. As a freelancer, Berge has held positions as musical director, composer in residence and conductor at Norway's major theatres and has written music for more than 70 plays. Sputnikmusic is an American music community website offering music criticism and music news alongside features commonly associated with wiki-style websites. The format of the website is unusual in that it includes both professional and amateur content, distinguishing it from professionally written music websites such as Pitchfork Media and Tiny Mix Tapes, as well as collecting and presenting a wiki-style metadata database in a manner comparable to Rate Your Music and Discogs. Over time, the site came to be established as a credible source; it is now among the sources that Metacritic uses to compile "Critic Scores" and is used as a news source by other websites. As a general rule, the staff writers tended to focus on new releases; however, any user was welcome to submit a review of any album that has been officially released.

After La Strada disbandment, Tišma quit his musical career and released two poetry books, the first Marinizmi (Marinisms) in 1995, and Vrt kao to (Garden Like That) in 1997; a collection of his texts released in literary magazines during the late 1980s and early 1990s were published as Blues Diary - Pitoma religiozna razmišljanja (Blues Diary - Cultivated Religious Meditations) in 2001 and he published an autobiographical novel Urvidek in 2005. He also wrote a libretto for a multimedia pseudo-opera Kralj šume (King of the Forest) by Andraš Urban. Mitrušić finished the Musical Academy studies and moved to Italy. In 2001 she participated the Pesme iznad istoka i zapada (Songs Above the East and the West), featuring Serbian rock musicians performing music to the poems by Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, with the written music and arrangement for the poem "Vladaj, Bože" ("Reign, God").
In 1995 Bryan Free, a trombonist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for many years, read about the Stokowski-Dorsey performance of the concerto and set about discovering its history, trying to obtain a sound recording and written music that would make it available for orchestras to play, and publicizing its history. From the early history of the piece, it is clear that information about the concerto was difficult to find, and an audio copy of the concerto was even more difficult to obtain. When Free obtained contact information for and wrote to and called Barbara Shilkret, her responses were slow, but finally resulted in her giving the Library of Congress permission to send Free a copy of the trombone solo and a piano reduction. Free also did obtain a copy of the WNYC recording of the Stokowski- Dorsey performance.

Ron Jones wrote the music during the scene where Peter and his friends help the man in the bar; Jones had also written music for the actual The A-Team series in the 1980s. This episode marks the third appearance of Brian's wheelchair-using teacher; he originally appears in "Ready, Willing, and Disabled" and "Brian the Bachelor" when competing in the Special Olympics during the former episode and attempting to become a candidate for The Bachelorette in the latter episode. The professor's and his wife's voices were not played by a real person; they were made from a generic computer system in the studio.

The musical "Gourouniasmata" for young viewers and their families premiered on December the 22nd 2012, played sold-out performances throughout Cyprus and preparations are under way to transfer the production to Athens, Greece and the former Soviet states, adapted in Russian.
The verismo opera style featured music that showed signs of more declamatory singing, in contrast to the traditional tenets of elegant, 19th century bel canto singing that had preceded the movement, which were purely based on markings in the written music of authors preceding this “era”. Opera singers adapted to the demands of the “new” style. The most extreme exponents of verismo vocalism sang habitually in a vociferous fashion, were focusing on the passionate aspect of music. They would 'beef up' the timbre of their voices, use greater amounts of vocal fold mass on their top notes, and often employ a conspicuous vibrato in order to accentuate the emotionalism of their ardent interpretations (this kind of proper “chiaroscuro” technique singing, which promised a great longevity of the voice, that a lot of preceding singers used up to this point in time).

With his background as a practising church musician Sixten has to a large extent written music suitable not only for concert performance but also for liturgical use. He has produced a wide range of material suitable for use by average congregations and choirs. In addition to a considerable number of choral works of moderate difficulty he has also been involved in the revision of the Swedish national hymn book. His attitude towards the listener is also such that his production can be appreciated both by musical specialists and non-specialists alike. Similarly, in his instrumental music Sixten is anxious to communicate by making music which “sounds good”, even though the harmonies can be challenging and the music can take unexpected turns. He does not wish to be regarded as “traditional” or “modern”, but rather as a synthesis of the two.

His latest releases are Som en rose (2004), in which he has translated and interpreted the Scottish author Robert Burns, with a dazzling lineup amongst them Knut Reiersrud and Arild Andersen, (in Norwegian) and I går, i dag, i morgen (2006), which is a live recording from the anniversary concert at the Concert Hall, in connection with the celebration of his 70th. birthday. Alf Cranner has also written music for theater including in collaboration with Klaus Hagerup, and to Romeo og Julie under the direction of Kjetil Bang-Hansen put up on Det Norske Teatret and to the films Jentespranget from 1972 and Faneflukt from 1973. In 2001, he published the book Jordbundet og himmelvendt, which is a biography of his grandfather, the inventor Christian Holberg Gran Olsen.

In October 2012, "Tear The Curtain", directed by Kim Collier, played on the Canadian Stage, the largest theatre stage in Canada.
He was heavily involved with the music part of the Demoscene and ran Groovy Compo - a bi-weekly tracker based internet competition first started by Mick Rippon. While she has published on a variety of topics within music scholarship, Busse Berger is best known as a scholar of medieval music and notation. Her first book, Mensuration and Proportion Signs: Origins and Evolution, examines mensural notation and relates this system to other measuring systems of the period, in particular the Roman system of fractions. Her second book on Medieval Music and the Art of Memory is the first detailed study of music and memory in the Middle Ages. In this book Busse Berger examines the relationship between oral and written music traditions in the earliest stages of written notation, and in the words of one reviewer, her primary argument is that "the act of composing [during the Middle Ages] entailed the process of gathering and redistributing materials stocked in one's memory," in the context of particular medieval ideas about how memory worked.

Brandon Campbell is an American music composer for film, TV and video games and is best known for his music contributions to TV series' like Game of Thrones and Person of Interest and movies such as The Thinning and The Great Wall. After graduating from the University of Rochester he interned at Hans Zimmer's studio, Remote Control Productions and later served as an assistant to Ramin Djawadi. Campbell ventured off on his own in with the film, Where Love Found Me and later that year wrote the music for the thriller, The Thinning. Contradanza (also called contradanza criolla, danza, danza criolla, or habanera) is the Spanish and Spanish-American version of the contradanse, which was an internationally popular style of music and dance in the 18th century, derived from the English country dance and adopted at the court of France. Contradanza was brought to America and there took on folkloric forms that still exist in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Panama and Ecuador. In Cuba during the 19th century, it became an important genre, the first written music to be rhythmically based on an African rhythm pattern and the first Cuban dance to gain international popularity, the progenitor of danzón, mambo and cha-cha-cha, with a characteristic "habanera rhythm" and sung lyrics. Outside Cuba, the Cuban contradanza became known as the habanera – the dance of Havana – and that name was adopted in Cuba itself subsequent to its international popularity in the later 19th century,Manuel, Peter (2009: 97).

After leaving Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio, Sol worked as a freelance musician with several artists, such as keyboard with Bertine Zetlitz, vocal participation and several instruments on the record Diggin Deep (2006) by HP Gundersen, trumpet with Westlife, vocals and drums on several Espen Lind and Stargate recordings, vocals and drums in Magnus Uggla's band, trumpet on Grand Island's record Boys and Brutes (2008), vocal on Vinni's song Mørkredd (2011), mandolin on Thomas Dybdahl's song Før Morgengry (2011), percussion and vocal with Odd Nordstoga and Kåre Vestrheim on a Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) music video project. In 2005 she built a recording studio at Propeller Recordings where she practised recording skills and also produced the first demo record of Katzenjammer together with Johan Wilhelm Schioldborg. She has also written music for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), where she is composer, copywriter, arranger, producer, technician, vocalist and musician. In 2013, the Holmenkollen National Arena and Association for the Promotion of Skiing announced a song competition amongst renowned Norwegian bands and composers.

Inspired by her love for discovering new music through her radio show and DJ sets, 2013 will see Sister Bliss launch her own label: Junkdog Records. He has scored a number of network series for British TV including I Saw You, Rescue Me, Safe as Houses, Number 13 and Spirit Warriors. In 2012 Dunkley was commissioned to score Peter Pan: The Neverending Story , a huge arena musical and theatrical touring extravaganza based on the JM Barrie story, that is still touring the world today, playing everywhere from Wembley Arena to Dubai. For the same production company, Music Hall Belgium, Dunkley has also composed scores for Flanders Fields, a play with music that was performed on location at the 1st World War Commonwealth War Grave Cemetery in Lijssenthoek, and Cinderella: A Fairly True Story which premiered in Singapore in 2015. In the world of dance, Dunkley has written music for Royal Ballet choreographer Charlotte Edmonds. Meta and Sink or Swim both featured Dunkley’s compositions. Christmas 2017 saw Dunkley re-arrange the whole of Tchaikovsky’s score to the Nutcracker ballet for a new modern dance interpretation, choreographed and directed by Giuliano Peparini, with production design by Franco Dragone, which premiered in Brussels.

Savvas has written music for a large number of films, documentaries, and theatrical plays, whereas his classical repertoire is endless. His catalogue of compositions includes Symphonies (7), concertos for piano (3), violin, cello and flute, works for solo piano, chamber music, Ballets (2), Opera and many other works including the Concerto for 10 pianos and orchestra (“Medieval Cyprus”) and the Dancing Suite for 10 pianos (“Dances and Songs of my Country”). Savvas received 1st prize from the Cyprus Theatrical Organization for his composition “Little Tragedies” of Alexander Pushkin.
The keyboardist's side projects include reforming National Health in 1981 to produce a memorial album for keyboardist Alan Gowen, producing the hit single "Hole in My Shoe" and Neil's Heavy Concept Album for comedian Nigel Planer (well known for his hippie character in The Young Ones), and producing the first album by Bill Bruford's electro-jazz outfit Earthworks. Stewart has also composed TV music – in the mid-'80s he wrote the new title theme to the revamped BBC Television AOR show The Old Grey Whistle Test and later wrote, produced, and performed much of the soundtrack to the TV drama series Lost Belongings, set in Northern Ireland. From the 1990s on, he has written music for TV programmes made by British production company Associated Rediffusion; these include the Channel 4 series Inside Victor Lewis-Smith (1995), Ads Infinitum (BBC2, 1999), and the 2003 documentary on the BBC Radiophonic Workshop Alchemists of Sound. Wolters has maintained an outsider position in the world of contemporary music with works which deconstruct and question the traditional concert situation or which are designed for performance outside the concert hall. He has written music for traditional ensembles like Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (Journal, Neighbours for a Night and I see with my eyes closed) but prefers not to be confined by conventional set-ups and concert rituals. This has resulted in pieces with unusual instrumentations (His 2012 twelve-minute-long opera The Voyage in collaboration with Birmingham-based theatre company Stan's Cafe, for example, is written for mezzo-soprano, eleven recorders and double bass ), performances in unusual places (wahnsinnig wichtig on ice [with New Guide to Opera] took place on and around an ice rink) or projects of unusual duration (his Spring Symphony: The Joy of Life is the shortest symphony in the world and lasts around 17 seconds and the performance of Wir sehen uns morgen wieder [with New Guide to Opera] lasted for one month). He strongly believes that the idea and the concept of a work are the crucial elements to create a successful piece of art.

Clark has written dozens of scores for theatre in the UK and internationally including for director Katie Mitchell for whom he has written over twenty scores including Cleansed (National Theatre, London) and Wunschkonzert (Schauspiel Koln) , and Irish company Gare St Lazare with whom he created Here All Night using texts by Samuel Beckett (Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York, Brighton Festival and touring 2013-18). He wrote the score for the National Theatre’s production of The Cat In The Hat which is now licensed by Music Theatre International and has toured across the U.S.. In Spring 2019, Clark composed the score for Norma Jeane Baker of Troy featuring Renee Fleming and Ben Wishaw, as part the inaugural season at The Shed, New York. In 1998 Clark was awarded a fellowship from The Arts Foundation for opera composition. In TV & Film, Clark composed music for Simon Amstell’s television show Grandma’s House which aired on BBC Two in 2010.
