In December 2012, a study published in the journal Science claimed new tests had suggested the Grand Canyon could be as old as 70 million years. During his term as governor, Altgeld expressed certain opinions on how buildings should be erected in the state of Illinois. The three lawsuits were consolidated into a single case within the United States District Court for the Southern District of California by Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel. Oral arguments were heard in February 2018, and Curiel ruled by the end of the month in favor of the government, citing that the Department of Homeland Security has several waivers in its authorization to expedite construction of border walls, which includes bypassing the EIS statement. Curiel had written his opinion without consideration of the other political issues regarding the border wall, ruling only on the environment impact aspect. The channel name CarniK Con was derived by Dugan Ashley, Randy Broshankle and Stanley Childs in 2012. The name is a compression of Carnivorous Kinetic Concepts. Initially, the three considered filming episodes in traditional firearms coverage fashion, without consideration of the comedy that the channel is known for. “But we did our research and thought this was the way to take things up a notch.” They began writing and filming in November 2012. Dugan Ashley also writes the music featured in their videos along with Ted Craig who joined the group and began co-writing soon after CarniK Con’s inception. The first video the channel released is simply titled “CarniK Con Opener.” It is the opening title sequence of the show that plays at the beginning of most episodes, ending with Randy wearing American flag patterned apparel firing a machine gun with the words excellence displayed behind him.

Bermuda became important for British Security Co-ordination operations with the ability to vet radio communication and search passengers and mail using flying boats to transit the Atlantic, with over 1,200 people working on opening packages secretly, finding coded messages, secret writing, micro dots and identifying spies working for Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Vichy France in the Americas, much of the information found being passed to the FBI. The Island was a base for direction finding equipment to help identify locations of German submarines and took down Enigma encoded messages, which were sent for Cryptanalysis of the Enigma to Bletchley Park. In 1941, the United States signed a lend-lease agreement with the United Kingdom, giving the British surplus U.S. Navy destroyers in exchange for 99-year lease rights to establish naval and air bases in certain British territories. Although not included in this trade, Winston Churchill granted the US similar 99-year leases "freely and without consideration" in both Bermuda and Newfoundland.

Existential nihilists will refute this as a play on words by critics to blur the distinction between universal truth and the entire conception of truth. They would argue that the fact that a person edited an article about nihilistic paradoxes is objectively true (though epistemological nihilists and metaphysical nihilists would both question this) since the article was edited by someone, but that the editor and action itself has no more "universal" meaning than the existence of disease or the creation of life via sex. It is unfair, existential nihilists would argue, to denigrate a philosophy which simply denies the absence of universal truth in a moral sense (the idea that there is a moral God or Gods who designed the world and people with an innate morality and purpose) as one that happily rejects meaning without consideration for the logic of the universe. Secondly, it isn't a paradox in the sense that all truths result in the Münchhausen trilemma, and every truth claim can be traced back to an axiom, circular argument, or infinite regress.

GeoHazards International's work in Nepal gained heightened media attention in the aftermath of the country's April 25, 2015 earthquake, its May aftershock, and other later aftershocks. Around two weeks before those earthquakes, GeoHazards International published a warning that "the 1.5 million people living in the Kathmandu Valley were clearly facing a serious and growing earthquake risk," because an absence of any building code had meant most construction had taken place without consideration of natural disaster risk, technical information about earthquake risk in the Kathmandu Valley was incomplete and dispersed among several governmental agencies, and rapid population growth with one of the highest urban densities in the world made it challenging for Nepal's preliminary progress on reducing its earthquake vulnerability to occur quickly enough. In the aftermath of the Nepal earthquakes, a rush of non-profits, NGOs, family foundations, relief organizations, and individual donors looked to raise money to rebuild the damaged Nepalese infrastructure. In a publication on their website a week after the first earthquake and its aftershocks, Tucker warned that well- meaning people might inadvertently recreate the conditions that made the recent earthquake so devastating, due to their lack of experience or expertise in building earthquake-resistant buildings.
