This perspective sees immoral acts as unskillful (akusala) in our quest for happiness, and hence it is pragmatic to do good. The third meta-ethical consideration takes the view of not-self and our natural desire to end our suffering to its logical conclusion. Used loosely, "bardo" is the state of existence intermediate between two lives on earth. According to Tibetan tradition, after death and before one's next birth, when one's consciousness is not connected with a physical body, one experiences a variety of phenomena. These usually follow a particular sequence of degeneration from, just after death, the clearest experiences of reality of which one is spiritually capable, and then proceeding to terrifying hallucinations that arise from the impulses of one's previous unskillful actions. For the prepared and appropriately trained individuals, the bardo offers a state of great opportunity for liberation, since transcendental insight may arise with the direct experience of reality; for others, it can become a place of danger as the karmically created hallucinations can impel one into a less than desirable rebirth.

The unintended negative consequences of erosion and native habitat loss can result from some unskillful defensible space applications. The disturbance of the soil surface, such as garden soil cultivation in and firebreaks beyond native landscape zones areas, destroys the native plant cover and exposes open soil, accelerating invasive species of plants ("invasive exotics") spreading and replacing native habitats. Poverty excused bigamy on the part of a deserted wife. According to the book's title page, A Table Alphabetical was intended for "Ladies, Gentlewomen, or any other unskillful persons" so that "they may the more easily and better understand many hard English words, which they shall hear or read in the Scriptures, Sermons, or else where, and also be made able to use them the same aptly themselves." The first six entries in Cawdrey's Table show the simplicity and directness of his style: #Abandon: cast away, or yeeld up, to leave or forsake.
