Teru teru bōzu dolls Teru teru bōzu dolls with an umbrella A is a small traditional handmade doll made of white paper or cloth that Japanese farmers began hanging outside of their window by a string. In shape and construction they are essentially identical to ghost dolls, such as those made at Halloween. This talisman is supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day. Teru is a Japanese verb which describes sunshine, and a bōzu is a Buddhist monk (compare the word bonze), or in modern slang, "bald-headed"; bōzu is also used as a term of endearment for addressing little boys.

The slang term Salvi was coined and used for self- identification by the first generation wave of Salvadoran Americans born in the United States from parents who had escaped the civil war in the 1980s, and has been used as a term of endearment. 2010 HonFest HonFest is an annual festival held in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. HonFest takes its name from the word "hon", short for "honey", a term of endearment and greeting often used in "Baltimorese". The festival began in 1994 as a local celebration of the Baltimorese lifestyle and stereotype, and has become one of the most visited festivals in Baltimore. The summer festival originally started as a one-day event, but it became two days starting in 2007, and is held on a Saturday and Sunday. When Shion leaves Vector to join Scientia, Allen is promoted to the position of Chief Engineer of the First R&D; Division and the KOS-MOS project shortly before it is canceled in favor of Roth Mantel's T-elos project. However, Allen has some trouble being addressed as "Chief" and continues to use this term (as a term of endearment) to refer to Shion Uzuki, who officially has no title at all, not working for Vector. Allen often puts himself in harm's way in order to protect Shion. When the Woglinde was attacked by Gnosis, instead of fleeing with the rest of Vector's staff, he followed KOS-MOS when she went searching for Shion and ended up using an assault rifle to fend off Gnosis along with Lt. Virgil while they all made their way to the escape pods.
