The cast of G.I. Carmen continued its tour of Europe for five months beyond the official end of World War II, entertaining the remaining allied troops as well as local citizens in theaters and hospitals across the ETO. The show was revived for a reunion of the 63rd Division held at the Statler Hilton Hotel in New York City in July 1965. For the re-mount the characters of Tom Wand and El Stinko became 'Tom Missel', American astronaut and 'El Stinko', Russian cosmonaut. Participating veterans included Fredd Wayne, Joseph Pollock, George Goldberg, Gordon Meyers, Nick Bonardi, Danny Canestraro, Harry Butensky, Herb Behrens and Al LaVecchia.

The water lost its clarity, the desirable fish populations declined, and masses of dead algae accumulated on the shores of the lake. After significant pollution, the October 5, 1963 issue of the Post Intelligencer referred to the lake as "Lake Stinko". Citizen concern led to the creation of a system that diverted the treatment-plant effluents into nearby Puget Sound, where tidal flushing would mix them with open-ocean water. The diversion was complete by 1968, and the lake responded quickly.

Veda travels to Reno and apparently reconciles with Mildred but, several months later, Veda reveals that her voice has healed and announces that she is moving to New York City with Monty. The "reconciliation" (which had been accompanied by reporters and photographers) was designed to defuse the negative publicity resulting from the affair with her stepfather and it emerges her apparent loss of her voice was a ploy so that she could renege on her existing singing contract and be free to take up a more lucrative one offered by another company. As she leaves the house, a broken Mildred, encouraged by Bert, eventually says "to hell" with the monstrous Veda, and the pair agree to get "stinko" (drunk).

"Sudbury Saturday Night" is one of the most famous songs by Stompin' Tom Connors, which depicts the hard-drinking, hard-partying social life of hard rock miners in the Northern Ontario mining city of Sudbury. The song's chorus is: : Yeah, the girls are out to bingo : And the boys are gettin' stinko : And we'll think no more of Inco : On a Sudbury Saturday night Originally released on Connors' 1967 debut album The Northlands' Own Tom Connors, the song also reappeared on his 1972 album Bud the Spud, his live album Live at the Horseshoe, the compilations A Proud Canadian and 25 of the Best Stompin' Tom Souvenirs, and the 1995 rerelease of The Northlands' Own Tom Connors under the title Northlands Zone. Connors wrote the song in Sudbury when he was booked for a three week performance at the Towne House. On the fiftieth anniversary of the song, a commemorative video was made in Sudbury with people at the tavern singing the song.
