Maynard Pirsig, published one of the first course books on legal ethics, Cases and Materials on Legal Ethics, 1949, later Cases and Materials on the Standards of the Legal Profession, 1957, and Cases and Materials on Professional Responsibility, 1965.

The reason why Snyder is the founding father of American genetics is not that much due to his numerous intellectual accolades, but his contributions to the professionalization of human and medical genetics. During the 1930s and 40s, when Snyder was at Ohio State University, he developed and designed the first required course in medical genetics for medical students in America. He also taught this course at Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest medical schools, and at the University of Oklahoma and to practicing physicians in Honolulu when he was at the University of Hawaii. In 1935, Snyder published his own textbook, The Principles of Heredity, which had five editions and was widely used in genetics courses.

The school, which opened in the fall semester of 2007, is divided into three smaller schools: Business, Arts (SOTA), and Invention, Design, Engineering & Architecture (IDEA). Core programs include Advisory (a required course for every student, every year, learning about college and career opportunities) and "7 to 7" (an elongated school day offering enrichment opportunities for students and families before and after normal school hours). Though West Adams is a LAUSD high school, it was designed in part by MLA Partner Schools, a nonprofit organization that now operates the school on a five-year performance contract with the LAUSD school board. A grade of "F" in any course means a failing grade, and as such will not qualify for graduation credits, and if the course is a required course, it must be retaken and passed in order to qualify. A grade of "D" in any course that has it will qualify for graduation credits, but will not count as having been passed for entry into state universities, and as such if a student who wishes to enter a state university after graduation earns this grade, they must retake the course and earn at least a "C". However, not all courses include a grade of D, as some only go down to C and consider anything lower as an F; in such courses, at least a C is necessary to pass the course and earn graduation credits.

Finally, the coursework for which credit is granted must be determined to be applicable to the program of study for which the student has applied. For purposes of ensuring student success in handling the level of difficulty in the targeted academic program and the required course work, and protecting the integrity of academic credentials, all three judgments must be made for credit to be granted for the transfer student and to avoid having the student take the required courses as documented. Courses of poor quality, courses for which the receiving institution has no general counterpart, and courses that simply do not apply to the program of study being sought are typically not counted toward degree requirements. This standard benefits students by ensuring that they are not inappropriately placed in programs of study and courses for which they are ill-prepared.

His teachers at the University of Chicago included Lloyd Rudolph, Susanne Hoeber Rudolph (President of American Political Science Association 2003-04), Philip Schmitter, Leonard Binder, Adam Przeworski, and Tang Tsou, as well as Bernard Silberman in comparative politics and Charles Lipson and Morton A. Kaplan in international relations. Sahu is the department's specialist in Comparative Politics, Politics of Developing Nations (including China and South Asia), Terrorism, and International Politics/International Political Economy. He offers a number of courses at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels: Intro to Comparative Politics and Government (POLS 150, a required course for political science majors and minors), Contemporary Political Ideologies (POLS 240), China and India in the 21st Century (POLS 253), Politics of Developing Nations (POLS 352), International Terrorism (POLS 390), Conflict and Cooperation in the Post-9/11 World (POLS 450, offered as a senior seminar course), and International Relations of South Asia (POLS 390). He also teaches a Winter Term course on Bollywood Films: Classic and Contemporary.
