It is also known as the place of interest sign when used on information signs, a practice which started in Finland in the 1950s, spreading to the other Nordic countries in the 1960s.

Headstone Manor is fourteenth century with many later additions and renovations: it is a significant place of interest in its own right. The manor had an unrivalled status, see manorialism until after the Reformation and formation of the British Empire and to an extent, usually for such a site, relatively close to London, even until the Enlightenment which sparked the Industrial Revolution. This has led to the barns having remained largely intact to the present. Headstone Manor – older, scheduled ancient monument listing in respect of its moated site.

It is noted that the land where the centre is currently located is only one third of the original land as over the years it was subdivided and sold, first in 1964 and 1969. In 1995 soon after the centenary celebrations of the foundation of Phoenix Lodge, an electrical fault destroyed the upper level of the centre, which was the original lodge room; however it was rebuilt according to the original specifications. The historical significance of the building has been acknowledged by the North Pine Historical Society which has listed the Masonic Hall as a place of interest in the area.

Although the route across the sands to the dock that he built was often affected by silting, it continued to be used for the export of coal long after the canal had been replaced by a railway. Coasters carried the cargo to Laugharne, Carmarthen, St Clears and Llanstephan, with the last recorded sailing bound for Llanstephan in the early 1920s.Morris (1990) The most notable place of interest is Kidwelly Castle perched above the estuary of the Gwendraeth Fach.

The 1960s saw an influx of African Americans, who are today the majority population both in North and South Collinwood. Collinwood took national center stage in the 1970s during a gang war when the Cleveland Mafia, centered in the Collinwood and Murray Hill neighborhoods, fought a territorial war with The Celtic Club led by Irish Gangster Danny Greene. The eventual bombing death of Greene brought the Federal organized crime task force to Cleveland which, after many trials, is said to have crippled the Mafia in Cleveland. In the 21st Century, Collinwood has become a place of interest for artists seeking low-cost urban places to live and work.

Most historians and archeologists today do not regard "David's Tomb" there to be the actual burial place of King David. The Chamber of the Holocaust (Martef HaShoah), the precursor of Yad Vashem, is also located on Mount Zion. Another place of interest is the Catholic cemetery where Oskar Schindler, a Righteous Gentile who saved the lives of 1,200 Jews in the Holocaust, is buried.

Brazil was the only independent Latin American country to send ground troops to fight in WWII. Brazil continued to try to remain neutral to the United States and Germany because it was trying to make sure it could continue to be a place of interest for both opposing countries. Brazil attended continental meetings in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1936); Lima, Peru (1938); and Havana, Cuba (1940) that obligated them to agree to defend any part of the Americas if they were to be attacked. Eventually, Brazil decided to stop trading with Germany once Germany started attacking offshore trading ships resulting in Germany declaring a blockade against the Americas in the Atlantic Ocean.

The municipality contains several forts built during the Peninsular War and forming part of the Lines of Torres Vedras. These include the Fort of Subserra on the first line of defence and the Forts of Serra da Aguieira and the Fort of Casa on the second line. Another place of interest, on the left bank, is the Hermitage of Nossa Senhora de Alcamé, which was built so that farmers on the Tagus floodplain would both have somewhere to pray and also somewhere of safety during floods. An annual pilgrimage is held to the hermitage with participants going by boat from the town of Vila Franca de Xira on the right bank.

The remains of Natalya Alexeyevna and other members of the imperial family were reinterred in the monastery's Annunciation Church soon after their original burial, but the church and cemetery complex remained popular sites for the St Petersburg elites, and many noble families established their family plots here. By the early nineteenth century the cemetery was becoming full, and new cemeteries were opened in the monastery complex. The last burials in the Lazarevskoe Cemetery took place in the early twentieth century, and the cemetery was closed to new burials in 1919. During the Soviet period, the cemetery became a place of interest for its elaborate funerary monuments and the graves of historically important figures.

The road from Rillo de Gallo to Pardos, next to the ravine of the Hoz del Río Gallo (Corduente), is proposed as « Global Geosite » (Place of interest Spanish Geological Survey of International Relevance) by the Instituto Geológico y Minero de España for its stratigraphic interest, with the denomination "MZ003: The Permian and Triassic of the Señorío de Molina" within the group of geological contexts «El rifting of Pangea and the Mesozoic successions of the Bética and Iberian mountain ranges'.

In 1919 he moved to Liverpool to work on tidal analysis and became in 1929 the Associate Director of Liverpool Observatory and Tidal Institute. He then spent much of his life developing the analysis of tidal motions mainly in the oceans but also in lakes, and was the first to devise methods for shallow water as in estuaries. Tide height and current tables are of great importance to navigators, but the detailed motions are complex. The thorough analysis at which he excelled became the international standard for the study of tides and the production of tables through the method of determination of Harmonic Elements by Least-Square fitting to data observed at each place of interest.

In 2000 – the year after a new constitution was enacted in Venezuela – some of the municipality functions were delegated to a consolidated mayor's office called Alcaldía Mayor, which also has some authority over the other four municipalities of Caracas. El Hatillo preserves some of its colonial architecture, including an 18th-century parish church and a unique Romanian Orthodox Church. The municipality also has a rich artistic culture, with at least two important musical festivals celebrated yearly, and numerous holiday celebrations reflecting the heritage of El Hatillo. The culture, the pleasant temperature, the rural landscape, and the gastronomy of the municipality have made it a place of interest for visitors to the city, and a desirable place to live.

On 8 February 2014, Mahony announced that "fresh and credible" information linking Jones to a country town in northwest Queensland had sparked renewed hope of a major breakthrough. Further updates about the breakthrough were given on 10 February 2014 by Townsville Detective Acting Superintendent Cheryl Scanlon, who announced that a team of detectives was heading to Hughenden to speak with people who lived and worked in the town the year Jones disappeared. On 12 February, Scanlon said new information had indicated Jones may have been murdered at Hughenden. Hughenden first became a place of interest in December 1982 when at least five people from the area alleged that on the weekend of 12–14 November, they talked with a young hitchhiker who bore a resemblance to Jones.

A revenue house on the corner with Prorizna Street was also built, which is now a valuable place of interest in Kyiv; Pedagogical museum building, which will be the seat of the Central Council of Ukraine; Olgynska gymnasium building, which is now the seat of Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; zemstvo building, which is now the seat of the Security Service of Ukraine. There were no major constructions on the street during the rest of the century, apart from construction of the building for the National Museum of the History of Ukraine.

The new Parliament House was designed by the Public Works Department, and comprises three new blocks (Chamber Block, Front Block and Public Block) integrated with an existing restored building built in 1864 and which once housed the Attorney-General's Chambers. This block was gazetted as a national monument on 14 February 1992. The building was built not only as a venue for parliamentary debates, but also a research centre and meeting place for the members of parliament (MPs), as well as a place of interest for students and the general public. Due to its setting in the richly historical area, the building's overall design harks back to its more historical neighbours with its slate grey external colour scheme and liberal use of accentuated columns reflective of the colonnade design common in classical architecture.

The parish church, St Peter's, also dates from around this time. It is a place of interest because it is a Norman tripartite, with the nave, central tower and chancel remaining intact. Throughout the 20th century, the building was added to according to architectural trends of the time and the needs of the parish. For example, in the 18th century a new chancel was erected along with a new brick chapel. In 1912, a burial ground was created for the Ousden residents extending for a mile next to the church. Within this a red brick chapel was built as a daughter church and is dedicated to St Barnabas. The village also had a manor, lived in by the Moseley family from 1567 until it was sold in 1800.

Rat Creek is a place of interest for many environmentalists, who believe in preserving the natural habitat that the creek provides and re-introducing a natural flow to the creek. Since 1975, the City of Edmonton has developed an extensive North Saskatchewan River valley parks system, which includes stretches up creeks and ravines branching away from the main valley. Over the course of 2016 and 2017, its Planning Department has worked with the community to develop the "Dawson Park & Kinnaird Ravine Master Plan", which reached its penultimate Phase 4 in November 2017. The Phase 4 plan includes restoration and expansion of the creek's native flora, as well as restoration of the natural flow of the lower portion of Rat Creek, from a point near the light rail transit's Stadium Station through to its connection with the North Saskatchewan River.

Using his skills of self-taught architectural draftsmanship and general artistic ability, Liddy started to paint and draw scenes from the urban landscape in an attempt to bring attention to the uniqueness and charm of Dublin before those places disappeared forever. The 1970s was a time when a good deal of second-rate redevelopment was clearing away much of the run-down but historic fabric of the city in the name of progress. Starting in 1982 and running until 1989, Liddy’s weekly column in The Irish Times, called "Dublin Today," featured a pen and ink sketch of a building or place of interest in the city and was accompanied by a description of around 400 words. This long-running series gained a huge following and played an important part in a newfound determination among ordinary people, businesses, property owners and Dublin City Council to rediscover and enhance the city.

The proximity (18 km) to the city of Kassa (Košice in present-day Slovakia), has made Abaújvár a place of interest for many settlers. The 19th and 20th century exodus of Jews from Poland, Ukraine, and Russia made up a significant portion of the new population. The 20th-century land reforms became also an incentive for displaced and poverty-stricken people from other parts of Felvidek (a northern part of the Hungarian Realm). On the one hand the population growth brought prosperity to the region; on the other hand the newcomers greatly contributed to the devastation of the historical appearance of Abaújvár. Within less than 100 years of continued construction of new residential homes, the local population had totally dismantled the entire castle and its fortification walls to use the stone as a raw material for building their houses, destroying one of Hungary’s most important historical sites.

Narayana Guru in Mangalore selected the place Kudroli (between places Narayana Guru had chosen, Kudroli and Mulihithilu) while riding in a horse-drawn coach provided by Adhyaksha Koragappa. Mulihithilu in Mangalore was also a place of interest for the Shiva temple as there was heightened Shiva aaradhana at that place with the presence of saints from the NATH tradition such as Matsyendranath (blessed the construction of Shri Mangaladevi (linga roopa - Goddess Parvathi) temple), Tilaknath (His place in mulihithilu has a shrine of Kallurti Kalkuda Daiva/ Demigod/ Bhootha (cohorts of Lord Shiva), Machindranath and Gorakhnath are also believed to have set foot from nethravati on mulihithilu, all these saints being ardent followers of Lord Shiva and coming across generations. It is said that Narayana Guru had got the Shiva Lingam (main deity) specifically for this temple. How Narayana Guru got this Lingam and from where he got this Lingam is still a mystery.
