Morgan then contacted George Petty at the offices of Esquire magazine and asked him for a pinup drawing to go with the name, which Petty supplied from the magazine's April 1941 issue.Morgan and Powers 2001, p. 99.
That year, baseball personality Sōtaro Suzuki proposed that JBL teams should have pet names like the Yomiuri Giants', whose pet name was "Kyojin", and names such as the Osaka Tigers' alias "Mouko" (fierce tiger), the revived Tokyo Senators' "Seito" (bluestockings) and the Pacific's "Taihei" (tranquility) began to be used by the press. However, some teams rejected the use of these pet names, so they were never fully adopted. The 1948 season had a 140-game schedule, and the 1949 season had a 134-game schedule. After the 1949 season, the league reorganized into today's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Packard Twin Six engine One of the earliest recorded uses of V12 engines in automobiles was in October 1913, when a custom-built racing car competed at the Brooklands circuit in the United Kingdom. The car was entered by Louis Coatalen, who was chief engineer of the Sunbeam Motor Car Company. It was named 'Toodles V' (after Coatalen's pet name for his wife) and achieved several speed records in 1913 and 1914. The V12 engine had a displacement of , an aluminum crankcase, iron cylinders with L-shaped combustion chambers, a cam-in-block valvetrain and a V-angle of 60 degrees.
For a time, the team was even mockingly nicknamed "Seito" (Bluestockings) after a Japanese feminist magazine of the same name. As the Yomiuri Giants' pet name was "Kyojin", baseball personality Soutaro Suzuki thought that other teams should also have pet names like the Giants, and names such as the Osaka Tigers' alias "Mouko" (fierce tiger), the Senators' "Seito" and the Pacific's "Taihei" (tranquility) began to be used by the press. However, the other teams rejected the use of these pet names, so they were not fully adopted. On January 7, 1947, the team was sold to the Tokyu Corporation.

Floyd first appeared on July 26, 1976, at a summer camp Peppermint Patty and Marcie were attending, flagging Marcie's attention by calling her "Lambcake" as an expression of his immediate infatuation with her. But whenever he called her "Lambcake," Marcie retaliated by pushing Floyd off the dock or into poison oak, or hitting him with a first-aid kit and landing him in the infirmary. Bernard "Bunny" Graham, (Youens then used Graham as a stage name; Bunny was his wife's pet name for him) appears in the film Cup-tie Honeymoon, a Mancunian Films production, with Betty Jumel. This was the first film to be shot at their Rusholme Studio in Manchester, with exteriors filmed at Maine Road football ground and Abney Hall in Cheadle. In the film, veteran comedian Sandy Powell performed one of his stage sketches, The Soldier’s Return Home, with a young actress, Pat Pilkington, later known as Pat Phoenix who played Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street.
A further concern for Thorpe was the danger that newspapers would publish letters he had sent to Scott early in their friendship. In an effort to forestall this, Thorpe arranged for the publication of two of the letters in The Sunday Times, a paper generally sympathetic towards him. In one of these letters Thorpe referred to Scott by the pet name "Bunnies". The tone of this letter convinced readers and commentators that Thorpe had not been frank about the nature of the relationship. On 10 May 1976 he resigned as Liberal leader amid rising criticism, again categorically denying Scott's allegations but acknowledging the damage that they were inflicting on the party.
Also in The New Colossus, an NPC lady Ritva Tuomivaara calls him on an elevator platform with pet name Blazkowiczi, making him sound more similar with Finns like her whose names tend to end to a vowel. In the spinoff Youngblood, an aged Blazkowicz goes missing and it's up to his daughters to track him down and rescue him. Wolfenstein RPG is set in an alternate timeline, which is mostly light-hearted and humorous, and serves as prequel to the Doom series. At the end, B.J. defeats and maims the Harbinger of Doom, a Nazi-summoned demon that is none other than the later Cyberdemon from Doom.
When he comes ashore, he is captured by a giant farmer, who perceives Gulliver only as an animal, a freak of nature resembling a man- shaped mouse. He takes Gulliver home and gives him to his nine-year-old daughter, a child "not above forty feet high, being little for her age." She makes Gulliver her pet, creates a small travel case for him (a miniature bed- chamber in a box), and is amused to play with him as if he were a doll. Ashoke suggests the name of Gogol, in honor of the famous Russian author Nikolai Gogol, to be the baby's pet name, and they use this name on the birth certificate. As a young man, Ashoke survived a train derailment with many fatalities. He had been reading a short story collection by Gogol just before the accident, and lying in the rubble of the accident he clutched a single page of the story "The Overcoat" in his hand. With many broken bones and no strength to move or call out, dropping the crumpled page is the only thing Ashoke can do to get the attention of medics looking for survivors.
Alternatively, Gauci may be derived from the pet name Gauche. The latter is a derivative of the ancient Germanic personal name Walho, from "wahl" meaning "stranger". It is also possible that in some instances, Gauci may be derived from the French place name Gauchi or Gauchy, which is located in Aisne. Names of French origin have been established on the island of Malta for many centuries (although in less numbers than those of Italian origin). Indeed, a Norman army conquered the island in 1090 while in 1798 Napoleon Bonaparte invaded and occupied the island during his Egyptian campaign, deposing the rule of the Knights.
Caecilia Attica is several times mentioned in the letters between her father and Cicero. Cicero was very fond of this little girl, whom he would never see growing into an adult as he was murdered in 43 BC. He gave her the pet name Attica, the feminine equivalent to her father's cognomen Atticus. (In Rome women generally did not have a cognomen; their name was just the feminine form of their father's surname, in Caecilia's case Caecilius). In his letters to Atticus Cicero often sent greetings to her, and often asked if she had one of her bouts of high fever that caused distress to him.

For example, a regular feature of the news section was Tales from the Towers (Micro Mart Towers being the pet name for the editorial offices used by magazine staff and contributors). Written by staff writer Michelle, this section gave a light-hearted look at the week's events in the editorial office. When the offices moved from Birmingham to London and Michelle left the team, TFTT became Tales from the Shed written by editor Simon Brew for a while, but was not included in the magazine. This work was called a "vile poem" by Fanny Burney as it revealed that she was the author of Evelina, a novel she had published anonymously as well as revealing a pet name that had been given to her by Samuel Johnson. Other satirical poems followed with "the French" and rigged elections as targets of his wordplay. One later work was a collection of poetry by old fellow Winchester College students which was called the "Wiccamical Chaplet". In 1791, Huddesford wrote a comic verse anonymously on the subject of the death of Thomas Warton (the younger) who had been Professor of poetry in Oxford, and a friend to Samuel Johnson, Reynolds and Edmund Burke.
Mick Jagger had been spending a lot of time in New York City and absorbing new elements of dance music, specifically Latin forms." Black and Blue is known for its heavy contribution from Stones recording and touring veteran Billy Preston, of which Janovitz says, "...Preston plays a very percussive Afro-Cuban-sounding piano part over the... riff." Also prominent is Ollie Brown (another veteran of the Stones' mid-1970s tours) who provides the song's heavily Latin-influenced percussion. Of the song's substance, Janovitz says, "Jagger again chooses not to shy away from controversy... "Negrita," a Spanish term translating as "little black girl," was a pet name he had coined for his wife at the time, Bianca, a Latina.
While with Micheli, Modigliani studied not only landscape, but also portraiture, still life, and the nude. His fellow students recall that the last was where he displayed his greatest talent, and apparently this was not an entirely academic pursuit for the teenager: when not painting nudes, he was occupied with seducing the household maid. Despite his rejection of the Macchiaioli approach, Modigliani nonetheless found favour with his teacher, who referred to him as "Superman", a pet name reflecting the fact that Modigliani was not only quite adept at his art, but also that he regularly quoted from Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Fattori himself would often visit the studio, and approved of the young artist's innovations.
At the age of twelve, two years after the death of both his paternal grandparents, Robert and Lydia Tomlinson, A.J. Tomlinson had his first religious experience, as told in his brief autobiography, Answering The Call Of God: > One day while father and myself were alone in the field a mile from home, > sawing a large log with an old-fashioned "Hoosier" cross-cut saw, I heard my > name called, and thought father spoke to me. It was my familiar, family, pet > name, but father said he did not speak it. In a few minutes I heard the same > voice and the same name. Again father said he did not say a word.
There was also a more personal connection: above the door we find the inscription 'Tres testimonium dant' ('the three bear witness', or, perhaps, 'Tres bears witness'). 'Tres' may be a moment of self- reference; it was his wife's pet name for him. Tresham himself was the architect of these designs, and the extant family papers in the British Library reveal some of his plans. His sense of civic responsibility in local society, occasioned by his gentility and the expectations of his rank and family practice, led him to begin building the Market House at Rothwell in 1577, thought to be a sessions house and decorated with the arms of other local families.

The mixture consists of small soft sweets and sugar-coated jellies. The origins of the name are uncertain. It has been passed down through family history that the name came from the daughter of one of the confectioners that created the product, Mr. Clayton ("Dolly" was the pet name for his eldest daughter, Dorothy), but some people have speculated it originated around the time of the British Raj in India, as dal (or dhal) is a dried mixture of beans, peas, or legumes of different sizes and colours.

Greene had initially considered the name Freckle to be somewhat of a pet name, but now the name and character of Freckle have become part of Greene's identity. The character of Freckle was conceptualized by Greene as an act brought to clubs and shows. Freckle was formed from the idea of a modern version of a flapper, with an inverse of the gender role reversal: whereas a flapper in the 1920s would have short hair and wear trousers, Greene's modern version was a boy growing his hair long and wearing a skirt. Greene had also wanted Freckle to be perceived as the type of person who had risen from virtually nothing to fame quickly, similar to Joan Crawford.
Badr was the son of one of Caliph al-Mutawakkil's freed slaves (mawali), whose name is uncertain (Khurr or Khayr). He began his career as an equerry under the stable-master of al-Muwaffaq, the virtual regent of the Caliphate during the reign of his brother al-Mu'tamid () and father of the caliph al-Mu'tadid (). He then became one of a group of the military slaves or pages (ghilman) recruited by Mu'tadid for the campaigns against the Zanj Rebellion, and appears early on as one of the most prominent figures among this group. Like the other ghilman of Mu'tadid, his name is a "pet name" rather than a regular name, meaning "full moon".

Author Farhad Daftary wrote of how the honorific title Aga Khan (from Agha and Khan) was first given to Aga Khan I at the age of thirteen after the murder of his father: "At the same time, the Qajar monarch bestowed on him the honorific title (laqab) of Agha Khan (also transcribed as Aqa Khan), meaning lord and master." Daftary additionally commented, "The title of Agha Khan remained hereditary amongst his successors." On the other hand, in a legal proceeding, the Aga Khan III noted that 'Aga Khan' is not a title, but, instead a sort of alias or "pet name" that was given to Aga Khan I when he was a young man. The style of His Highness was formally granted to the Aga Khan IV by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957 upon the death of his grandfather Aga Khan III.

During her 1725 pregnancy, Charles unsuccessfully had her bedchamber decorated with erotic images of male beauty so as to make her expected baby male by stimulating her fantasy. After this, the court doctors prescribed a rich diet to increase her fertility, which made her so fat that she became unable to walk, experienced breathing problems, insomnia and dropsy and had to be lowered into her chairs by a specially constructed machine. Portrait of Empress Elisabeth Christine (by Rosalba Carriera, 1730) Though her health was devastated by the different prescriptions as how to make her conceive another son, Charles VI apparently did care for her: he continued to refer to her by her pet name White Liz, expressed sincere concern in his diary about her health and left her an independent income in his will. Charles had a mistress before the marriage, and he had a mistress, countess Althann, from 1711 onward, though Althann was not an official mistress and had been married to one of his ministers shortly before the arrival of the empress to make the relationship more discreet.
Another hypothesis holds that edda derives from Old Norse óðr, "poetry". A third, proposed in 1895 by Eiríkr Magnússon, is that it derives from the Icelandic place name Oddi, site of the church and school where students, including Snorri Sturluson, were educated. A fourth hypothesis—the derivation of the word Edda as the name of Snorri Sturluson's treatise on poetry from the Latin edo, "I compose (poetry)", by analogy with kredda, "superstition", from Latin credo, "creed"—is now widely accepted, though this acceptance may stem from its agreement with modern usage rather than historical accuracy.Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages (2010) under "Snorri Sturluson" The fifth hypothesis is based on the fact that there was a fashion of giving Icelandic manuscripts bird titles. (Such are the legal codes Grágás ‘grey goose’, Gullfjǫðr ‘gold feather (quill?)’, and Hryggjar-stykki ‘a kind of duck’.) Perhaps Edda was also one of such titles: Edda would be an appropriate ‘pet name’ of æðr (pronounced as [æ:ðr] f.) ‘eider duck’. Then, Edda meant ‘little eider duck’ (an analog of Grágás).Liberman, Anatoly (2016).
