Archaeological finds are known from as early as Late La Tène times. In 1290, Schönborn had its first documentary mention. The village was part of Palatinate-Simmern and, beginning in 1673, Electoral Palatinate. Beginning in 1794, Schönborn lay under French rule.
The final Charter constituted the province as a "county palatinate", officially titled the "Province of Avalon", under Calvert's personal rule.Browne, p. 17; Fiske, p. 256; A Palatinate was a province governed by a semi-autonomous agent in the King's name.
In 1310, Ohlweiler had its first documentary mention. The village belonged to the Duchy of Palatinate-Simmern, which introduced the Reformation in 1556. Later, the Elector of the Palatinate was the landholder. Beginning in 1794, Ohlweiler lay under French rule.

The West Palatinate Way ( or, officially, Großer Westpfalz-Wanderweg) was a marked footpath that crossed the West Palatinate region in Germany, but is no longer maintained. The concept for this route emerged in 1980 from its sponsor the Association for the Promotion of Tourism in the West Palatinate (Verein zur Förderung des Tourismus in der Westpfalz) and was a cooperative venture between the counties in the West Palatinate, the Palatine Forest Club (a rambling club) and local pubs and restaurants. In 2006 and 2007, overnight bookings fell and, since 2009, the sponsors have no longer taken bookings and maintenance of the footpath and its waymarks has only been carried out in places by the Palatinate Club. The disbandment of the tourist association has also been discussed.
Bohemian and Palatine troops, however, were defeated in a counterattack by Imperial troops and Friedrich V had to flee into exile. The Emperor then granted the now vacant Palatine Electoral throne to the Bavarian Duke Maximilian I. His general, Tilly, conquered great parts of the Palatinate in 1620 and forced the subjects to embrace Catholicism. Spanish and Italian troops, who fought on the Emperor's side, also conquered parts of the Palatinate, likewise in 1620, and did not distinguish between the Electorate of the Palatinate and the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. Thus it was not much use that Johannes II, who had taken over the job of governing in Heidelberg since Friedrich V had left for Prague, wanted to declare Palatinate-Zweibrücken a neutral state.
As in all the villages around Kusel, the two villages on the Glan suffered losses among their inhabitants. The County Palatine of Veldenz-Lützelstein died out in the late 17th century, which triggered disputes over ownership of the defunct county's holdings between Palatinate-Zweibrücken and the Electorate of the Palatinate. It was in the midst of these disputes, in 1715, that Theisberg and Stegen were united into one municipality. In the so-called Mannheim Compromise of 1735, Palatinate-Veldenz-Lützelstein was assigned to the Electorate of the Palatinate. In 1788, the geographer Goswin Widder wrote of Theisbergstegen, now in the Electorate of the Palatinate Oberamt of Lauterecken: “Deinsberg and Stegen together make up a municipality and are commonly written Theisberg-Stegen.
Fully 37 monasteries and noble families had landholdings in the village in the centuries that followed, and were therefore the landlords. The history of the local lords is quite complicated. Erbes- Büdesheim originally wholly belonged as a village about 1275 to the County of Leiningen, beginning in 1350 to the “Further” and “Hinder” County of Sponheim, whose main holdings lay in the Hunsrück, and after the House of Sponheim died out in 1437, to their heirs: the County of Palatinate-Simmern, the Margraviate of Baden and Electoral Palatinate. From 1559 to 1598 and from 1611 to 1673, it belonged to the Duchy of Palatinate-Simmern, a small Electoral Palatinate sideline whose seat was in Simmern, and beginning in 1673, wholly to Electoral Palatinate.
Arms of Prince Rupert, as a Knight of the Garter His father was Frederick V of the Palatinate, of the Palatinate-Simmern branch of the House of Wittelsbach. Death nonetheless reaped a rich harvest through hunger and the Plague. The County Palatine of Veldenz-Lützelstein was “orphaned” in 1694 by the last ruling Count Palatine, Leopold Ludwig's death, whereupon a dispute arose as to whether the county – and thereby Lohnweiler too – should pass to Electoral Palatinate or the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken. At first, Zweibrücken, which was then ruled by King of Sweden Karl XI, took ownership of the Ämter of Veldenz and Lauterecken as well as the Remigiusberg. In 1697, Electoral Palatinate troops showed up, and the Amt of Lauterecken was now ruled by Electoral Palatinate.
Most of the major Palatinate towns (Ludwigshafen, Speyer, Landau, Frankenthal, Neustadt) lie in the lower eastern part of the Upper Rhine Plain down to the River Rhine. Here the German Wine Route (Deutsche Weinstraße) passes through the Palatinate wine region. It is one of the greatest wine-producing regions in Germany, and in the last two decades has become well known for its numerous prizewinning white and reds of highest quality produced by a number of talented young winemakers. Belonging to this were Veldenz on the Moselle, the Ämter of Lauterecken and Reichenbach, the Remigiusberg and later also Lützelstein (now called La Petite-Pierre) in Alsace. The residence town was at first Lauterecken. The line of the Counts Palatine of Veldenz-Lauterecken-Lützelstein died out in 1694, and the County Palatine of Veldenz passed in 1717, after disagreements between Electoral Palatinate and Palatinate-Zweibrücken, to Electoral Palatinate, although this was only made permanent in 1733 by the Mannheim Treaty of Succession. In line with this development, Föckelberg belonged from 1344 to 1444 to the old County of Veldenz, from 1444 to 1543 to the Duchy of Palatinate-Zweibrücken, from 1543 to 1694 to the new County Palatine of Veldenz, and beginning in 1733 to Electoral Palatinate. In 1788, Föckelberg was mentioned in Goswin Widder's Geographische Beschreybung der Kurpfalz (“Geographical Description of Electoral Palatinate”). This says, among other things: “Föckelberg is a midsize village at the Potzberg.
