"You expect to see a little more variability in your winter extremes when you've got a La Niña in place," Masters said, adding that other climactic patterns like the North Atlantic Oscillation can play a role, too.
"Dean" is not entirely autobiographical, but some of its plot points are: a grass-is-greener oscillation between New York and Los Angeles, the use of line drawings as therapy, and the untimely death of a parent.
Over the past few months, there has been a considerable shift in the Pacific Decadal Oscillation or PDO, a large-scale, long-term climate variability in the North Pacific Ocean that is closely associated with ENSO cycles.
Before the pause, the oscillation was in what is known as its negative phase, which is associated with warmer air hitting west Greenland, along with less snowfall and more sunlight, all of which contribute to ice loss.
Atmospheric circulation patterns, such as the Arctic Oscillation, also have to align in ways that both pump mild air into the Arctic and flush sea ice out of the region and into the North Atlantic in particular.
The Climate Prediction Center says the cool phase of ENSO (the acronym stands for El Niño-Southern Oscillation) will likely kick in by the fall, which would influence the weather around the world throughout the rest of 280.
The southward displacement of the polar jet stream across the Eastern US (trough) during Greenland blocking/negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) episodes facilitates storm systems to track across the Midwest or Southeast and eventually off the Eastern Seaboard.
" She then adds in the abstractions once she's spent time with the original concept, "I try to keep a fairly stiff composition, as I like the vibration effect to come exclusively from the oscillation of the double exposure.
It's the philosophy at the forefront of his attitude, that allows for an oscillation between love and hate, one that predates influencer culture, shiny aphorisms and most importantly the backlash against positive thinking with regards to mental health.
The probability that the El Niño-Southern Oscillation-neutral (ENSO) weather pattern will then continue through the spring of 2020 is at 55% to 60%, the National Weather Service's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) said in its monthly forecast.
Currently, we are in a weak La Niña, but the forecasters at Colorado State believe we will transition to a neutral phase of El Niño-Southern Oscillation over the next several months (no El Niño or La Niña).
"Spring is a time of year when ENSO (El Niño/Southern Oscillation, the entire El Niño and La Niña system) is often transitioning, making it especially difficult to predict what comes next," NOAA said in its ENSO blog.
It has a single oscillator, based upon the fabled 163 "Curtis" oscillator used in the Sequential Prophet 5, and a switchable high and low pass "Ladder" filter, which was invented by Moog and provides rich resonance and self-oscillation.
One is that the large-scale climate indicator El Niño-Southern Oscillation – or ENSO – has much higher chances of sustaining neutral conditions through the end of the year rather than trend toward the warm phase El Niño as earlier forecasts suggested.
But an experiment called the Liquid Scintillator Neutrino Detector at Los Alamos saw extra "electron antineutrinos" (in particle physics, every particle has an antiparticle that acts exactly the same but annihilates its partner should they ever meet) in the oscillation process.
Next, a pattern of air pressure known as the North Atlantic Oscillation, or NAO, is shifting into an extreme configuration that meteorologists have never before witnessed during December, January, or February, which are the months considered to be meteorological winter.
What we're watching: Weather patterns across the Atlantic as well as a broader cycle of atmospheric circulation, known as the Madden-Julian Oscillation, are combining to make the Atlantic far more favorable to storm development than it has been all season.
And, when Dr Saleh compared the pattern of this oscillation, which is well-established back beyond 500m years ago, with that of his 100,000-year spikes of iron availability, he found that the spikes coincided with moments of maximum eccentricity.
"It sounds like in the song you have a buildup into a chorus—it's a bass oscillation that's kind of what my orgasm sounds like, because my orgasm pattern is very stagnant and then a lot of activity," she says.
It was also the 20th straight winter month with a positive North Atlantic Oscillation, the driver for a warm pattern in the west this winter, according to the IBM-owned firm, which provides forecasts aimed at the commodities and energy sectors.
Extensive observations of radiation emitted by matter at different temperatures, however, show us clearly that the physical properties of radiation, the frequencies and amplitudes of oscillation making up radiation, increase in value rapidly with increasing temperature of the radiating body.
But that's not a guarantee by any means,  because other air and ocean cycles play a larger role in determining winter weather conditions in these areas, particularly the North Atlantic Oscillation, which can only be reliably predicted about two weeks ahead of time.
As far as what's actually in the unit itself, Sirin's fully-recallable analog sound engine has two re-engineered analog Taurus bass oscillators, a classic Moog ladder filter (which provides rich resonance and self-oscillation), two ADSR envelopes, and a multi-wave LFO.
Another factor at play is known as the Madden-Julian Oscillation, or MJO, which is a cycle of enhanced showers and thunderstorms that travels eastward around the equator and gets back to its starting point within one to two months, on average.
His eyewitness account of the sack of Troy, in Book II, remains one of the most powerful depictions of military violence in European literature, with a disorienting, almost cinematic oscillation between seething, smoke-filled crowd scenes and claustrophobic moments of individual panic.
Brondell Swash 1400 Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat Experienced bidet users and those with money to burn will appreciate the Brondell Swash 1400 Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat, which is loaded with features like a heated seat, warm air dryer, nozzle oscillation, and deodorizer.
"Oscillation between male and female becomes, at the end of the day, only a 'provocative' display against so-called 'traditional frameworks', and one which, in fact, ignores the suffering of those who have to live situations of sexual indeterminacy," the authors write.
But by pressing the center button at different pressures, for different lengths of time, and mixing that up with the very real delight of aftertouch, you could play your way through any league or cup without the slightest oscillation of your right thumb.
"Often during the night a regular pattern is manifested, where a slow oscillation from the cortex is immediately followed by a thalamic spindle and while this happens, a hippocampal ripple appears in parallel," Charles Francois V. Latchoumane, a research fellow at the IBS, said.
Last year, a group known as BOSS, the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, came up with a Hubble constant of about 68, based on how 1.5 million galaxies were clustered in space and time, but it used data from the cosmic microwave background for calibration.
Because a study out today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences uses two decades of data to make a pivotal connection: Pseudo-nitzschia gets particularly toxic in masses of warm Pacific waters like El Niño and the less-romantic-sounding Pacific Decadal Oscillation.
Get the latest forecast and weather stories "Without either El Niño or La Niña conditions, short-term climate patterns like the Arctic Oscillation will drive winter weather and could result in large swings in temperature and precipitation," said Mike Halpert, deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center.
Nor is this the only possible explanation for these jerks—others have suggested they come from a torsional, or twisting, oscillation in the core, though the researchers behind the new paper argue that torsional oscillations are too weak to generate the signals observed in real life.
But with the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) - that measures sea level pressure differences and is one of a number of indicators of a La Nina - rising to its highest level in two months, analysts and traders say the outlook for Australia's silo-bursting supplies remains in doubt.
Other factors have influenced the fusillade of nor'easters, including a pattern of air pressure over the North Atlantic, known as the North Atlantic Oscillation, as well as a strong blocking pattern of high pressure near Greenland that is holding up weather systems like a stop light at an intersection.
Before my second visit to the Sandback exhibition, I stopped briefly at the LeWitt show, where the extreme oscillation between the black and white stripes seemed to have washed out my eyes, because when I got to Zwirner minutes later, Sandback's illusions were suddenly non-existent, or virtually so.
They then went on to discover the role of another gene, called "timeless," which encodes a protein called TIM, that works in combination with the PER protein to regulate the activity of the period gene and in turn the levels of the PER protein -- enabling this 24-hour oscillation.
The Vatican leader's persistent oscillation between ally (saying Christians should apologize to gay people for past offenses this June) and foe (saying that honoring one's transgender identity aids in the "annihilation of man as image of God" this August) is proof positive that the Church is ideologically confused.
Observing the oscillation of light as the black hole gobbles the star and spews stellar material in an outward spiral could help astronomers understand the black hole's behavior, a scientific mystery since physicist Albert Einstein's work more than a century ago examined gravity's influence on light in motion.
Traditionally, the introductory view of the pendulum is to show that for small amplitudes the motion of the mass is like a simple harmonic motion (motion of a mass on a spring) with a period of oscillation that depends on the length of the string and the local gravitational field.
While you are running, the headphones' sensors track a host of different parameters integral to good form and preventing injury: cadence (steps per minute), step length, step width, vertical oscillation (the up and down bounce of your body), head tilt angle, stance / flight time, shock, maximum leg force, balance, and consistency.
Researchers suspect those cycles are linked to fluctuations in wind shear, which can be affected by events like El Niño, as well as by ocean events like the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, a cycle of fluctuations in sea surface temperature that may be affected by ocean currents and possibly air pollution.
Instead, they found that two large atmospheric patterns most likely accounted for the hot spot off the Southeast coast: the El Niño cycle and the North Atlantic Oscillation, which is a shift in atmospheric pressure over the ocean that can have large effects on the winds blowing toward the American coast.
The site goes on to explain that "the biophysical water quality changes depending on the moon phase," but also features a disclaimer for consumers which says that "the views presented here go far beyond the current state of science and that classical medicine has neither accepted nor recognized the effect of bioenergetic oscillation."
Hurricanes are influenced and steered by massive global trends in weather, such as the warming or cooling of waters in the Pacific (El Niño and La Niña) and patterns like the Madden-Julian oscillation (an eastward-moving weather system that circles the globe every month or so and makes thunderstorms more likely).
Canada's Microvariability and Oscillation of Stars (MOST) telescope launched June 30, 2003 on what was supposed to be a one-year mission to study star vibrations, but the machine was still going strong in 2014 when the Canadian Space Agency yanked its funding, saying the mission had achieved its objectives and it was time to retire.
Second, while the large-scale weather pattern will be primed for a big East Coast snowstorm, with a blocking high pressure area over Greenland, a negative phase of a cycle known as the Arctic Oscillation, and a deep dip in the jet stream from Canada southward to the Gulf of Mexico, it's unclear if any formidable storm will materialize.
Researchers believe that the cooling is related to a natural variation in the climate in the Northern Hemisphere known as the North Atlantic Oscillation, which can warm or cool the northern portions of the Atlantic Ocean in periods of several years (not too dissimilar from the impact that El Niño and La Niña can have on Pacific Ocean temperatures).
How the Arctic Oscillation, and the weather across the Arctic region in general, is interacting with a strong El Niño event in the tropical Pacific Ocean is still an open question, Serreze said The El Niño is also helping to reconfigure weather patterns from Australia to the U.S. and beyond, but its relationship with the Arctic has only recently begun to be investigated.
But hurricanes are also influenced and steered by massive global trends in weather that are hard to predict: The warming or cooling of waters in the Pacific (El Niño and La Niña) and patterns like the Madden-Julian oscillation (an eastward-moving weather system that circles the globe every month or so and makes thunderstorms more likely) all play a role.
"The rate at which you turn the genes on, the rate at which the genes make the proteins, the rate at which the proteins make complexes, the rate at which they enter the nucleus, the rate at which they turn off their own genes, and the rate at which those protein complexes are degraded, actually make a 24-hour oscillation," explained Foster.
