"Appearance of Life" placed tenth in the 1977 Locus Poll Award for Best Short Story. "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank" placed tenth in the 1977 Locus Poll Award for Best Novelette. "The Hertford Manuscript" placed fifth in the 1977 Locus Poll Award for Best Novelette. "The Bicentennial Man" won the 1976 Nebula Award for Best Novelette and the 1977 Hugo Award for Best Novelette, and placed first in the 1977 Locus Poll Award for Best Novelette.

"Animal" received a positive response from music critics. Natalie Kaye of Contactmusic.com described it as a "solid pop song", before adding that the "infectious" chorus is "irrefutably something you'll end up whistling in the shower". A memory bank is a part of cache memory that is addressed consecutively in the total set of memory banks, i.e., when data item is stored in bank , data item is stored in bank . Cache memory is divided in banks to evade the effects of the bank cycle time (see above) [=> missing "bank cycle" definition, above]. When data is stored or retrieved consecutively each bank has enough time to recover before the next request for that bank arrives.

With interleaved memory, memory addresses are allocated to each memory bank in turn. Main memory (random-access memory, RAM) is usually composed of a collection of DRAM memory chips, where a number of chips can be grouped together to form a memory bank. It is then possible, with a memory controller that supports interleaving, to lay out these memory banks so that the memory banks will be interleaved. Data in DRAM is stored in units of pages. Each DRAM bank has a row buffer that serves as a cache for accessing any page in the bank.

But humans have inhabited virtually every other corner of the solar system, often through the use of biological modifications learned, in part, by eavesdropping on alien communications. A somewhat different theory of proprioceptive memory has been put forward as an explanation of phantom limb phenomena. The hypothesis states that we remember limb positions which are used in common tasks, such driving, riding a bike, eating with a fork, etc. The formation of a "proprioceptive memory bank" over the course of our lives contributes to our proficiency with these tasks, and the ease with which they are performed. Memories of specific limb positions can also be associated with expected sensations, including pain.

This required loading only one copy into memory, saving both space and the time it took to load the code. Barratt was born at Hammersmith, London. The result was 640 half-hour radio documentaries, broadcast in the final weeks of the millennium, and one of the largest single oral history collections in Europe, the Millennium Memory Bank (MMB). The interview based recordings are held by the British Library Sound Archive in the oral history collection. The lower 3000 CPU was a 24-bit architecture: instructions were 24 bits in length, as were the two operand registers A and Q. Although some early systems had only 32 KB (32 × 1024 bytes) of RAM, most 480Zs were fitted with at least 64 KB of memory. Bank switching allowed memory to be extended to 128 KB on the main board, and up to 256 KB by using the option board (which also included the high resolution graphics hardware). As the Z80 processor could only directly address 64 KB without software support the additional memory was typically used as a RAM disk, specifically the Silicon Disk System. The silicon disk could be automatically loaded with software and data when the 480Z booted to the network.

Cromemco was known for its engineering excellence, design creativity, and outstanding system reliability. “If they hired you into their R&D; Department, they gave you an office and a computer and asked you what you wanted to do” recalls Roger Sippl, an early Cromemco employee. Cromemco’s engineering firsts for microcomputer systems include the first digital camera (the Cyclops Camera), the first color graphics card (the Cromemco Dazzler), the first programmable storage (the Bytesaver), the first memory bank switching, and the first Unix-like operating system (Cromix). To prevent deadlocks and timeouts in the I/O system the following priorities are enforced: #I/O DMA Synchronizer - highest #Processor #Computers - lowest If a higher-priority section is locked out in one 4-microsecond cycle, when it tries again in the next 4-microsecond cycle, all lower-priority sections are prevented from beginning a new cycle on that memory bank until the higher- priority section has completed its access. John Fyfe Thomson (1915 – 30 July 1944) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hamilton Academical, mainly as a left half. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank was featured in the eighth-season finale episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), a comedy television series in which the character Mike Nelson and his two robot friends Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo are forced to watch bad films as part of an ongoing scientific experiment. The episode was broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel on December 6, 1997. MST3K cast member Bill Corbett disliked the film, calling it an "extraordinarily dumb movie whose relentless 'funny' techno-futuro-jargon was the screenwriting equivalent of water torture." Corbett also noted difficulties in mocking the film due to the death of Raul Julia, resulting in them barely making riffs on the actors.

He made 12 league appearances and scored one goal in two years with the team, but left at the end of the 1905–06 campaign. He then played for Linfield before joining English Second Division champions Bolton Wanderers in October 1909. He made six more appearances in 1910–11, but spent most of the season in the reserve team.

He survived a serious motorcycle crach in 1913, later going on to play for Wishaw Thistle and Royal Albert. The project was especially well-publicised on both radio and television, and the ambitious official launch included Lord Soper, Baroness Blackstone and Glenda Jackson. James Morgan (1912 – 31 July 1944) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hamilton Academical as a goalkeeper. His breakthrough came when injuries to Eddie Wright then Peter Shevlin cleared a path for him to play in the 1935 Scottish Cup Final (his first-ever appearance in the competition), where he saved a penalty and made several other impressive stops, although opponents Rangers won the trophy. He was later the reserve goalkeeper for the Scottish Football League XI on two occasions.

This means that the new computational system that executes the same algorithm is no longer just Searle's original head, but that plus the memory bank (and possibly other devices). In particular, this additional memory could store a digital representation of the intended referent of different words (like images, sounds, even video sequences), that the algorithm would use as a model of, and to derive features associated with, the intended referent. The "meaning" then is not to be searched in just Searle's original brain, but in the overall system needed to process the algorithm. (Just like when Searle is reading English words, the meaning is not to be located in isolated logical processing areas of the brain, but probably in the overall brain, likely including specific long-term memory areas).

Marvin Goldhar (April 29, 1933 - March 31, 2002) was a Canadian actor, best known for his voice work in animated programs and in made-for-TV movies. In that case, the BDOS bypassed the BASIC ROMs, so that the whole 64 KB of address space of the Z80 microprocessor inside the MSX computer could be used for the DOS or for other boot-able disks, for example disk based games. At the same time, the original BIOS ROMs could still be accessed through a "memory bank switch" mechanism, so that DOS-based software could still use BIOS calls to control the hardware and other software mechanisms the main ROMs supplied.

Bank switching was also used in some video game consoles. The Atari 2600, for instance, could only address 4 KB of ROM, so later 2600 game cartridges contained their own bank switching hardware in order to permit the use of more ROM and thus allow for more sophisticated games (via more program code and, equally important, larger amounts of game data such as graphics and different game stages). The Nintendo Entertainment System contained a modified 6502 but its cartridges sometimes contained a megabit or more of ROM, addressed via bank switching called a Multi-Memory Controller. Game Boy cartridges used a chip called MBC (Memory Bank Controller), which not only offered ROM bank switching, but also cartridge SRAM bank switching, and even access to such peripherals as infrared links or rumble motors.

Christopher Mel McNee (1914 – 1986) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside left for Hamilton Academical, Rangers and Dumbarton. Robert Grieve Harrison (1911 – 1950), sometimes known as Bertie Harrison,Harrison, Bertie (1934), Hamilton Academical Memory Bank was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside left for Airdrieonians, Hamilton Academical and Rangers.(Rangers player) Harrison, Robert G., FitbaStats He played in the 1935 Scottish Cup Final for Accies, scoring his side's goal in a 2–1 defeat to Rangers,75 years since Accies' Scottish Cup final against Rangers, Daily Record, 15 April 2010 and he was also selected for the Scottish Football League XI on two occasions (and a reserve for the full Scotland team during his spell in Hamilton. His career was curtailed by World War II, in which he served in the Royal Air Force. Health problems led to his withdrawal from the RAF and his retirement from sport (he had also been a keen golfer.

Philip Ross Watson (29 April 1881 – 20 April 1953) was a Scottish footballer who played as a wing half or centre half. His longest and most prominent spell was with Hamilton Academical,Watson, Philip (1907), Hamilton Academical Memory Bank and he appeared in the 1911 Scottish Cup Final while with the clubScottish Cup–Replayed Final, The Glasgow Herald, 17 April 1911, via The Celtic Wiki – this ended in defeat after a replay to Celtic, one of his former employers.(Celtic player) Watson, Philip, FitbaStats He also spent time with Ayr, Motherwell and local team Dykehead, including several loans back when out of favour for a place in the side at his senior clubs. His son of the same name, known as Phil, was also a footballer who made over 170 appearances each for Hamilton Academical and Blackpool and received one cap for Scotland.

William McLaughlin (22 June 1878 – 20 July 1946) was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside right for most of his career, latterly as a centre half. He played for Hamilton Academical over two spells,McLaughlin, Willie (1903), Hamilton Academical Memory Bank and was captain of the Accies team in the 1911 Scottish Cup Final (a defeat to Celtic after a replay).Scottish Cup–Replayed Final, The Glasgow Herald, 17 April 1911 (via The Celtic Wiki) He also featured in the English Football League for Everton (though he was not selected for the 1906 FA Cup Final, having fallen behind others in the queue for selection including fellow Scot Hugh Bolton),William McLaughlin, 11v11.com and Preston North End, in the Southern League for Plymouth ArgyleWilliam McLaughlin, Greens On Screen and in the Irish League for Shelbourne.

Sound and tape output was implemented by CTC channels driving flipflops. Memory bank-switching was common since the total address space was only 64 KB. When running Mühlhausen's BASIC, the video RAM (at 0x8000) was banked in only during video operations, thus the maximum BASIC free RAM was about 47 KB instead of 32 KB. The module extension system also used bank- switching and made it theoretically possible to extend to megabytes of RAM (even more modules could be used by adding expansion devices, yielding sort of a tower), however neither BASIC nor most of the applications were prepared to use this as free space. The KC 87 was a better KC 85/1 with BASIC also in ROM. There was a color option (the 85/1 was only monochrome), but no real graphics apart from ROM pseudographic characters.

Joe McMenemy is also credited with saving the sister of Sean Fallon from drowning during a holiday in Sligo, after which the families became acquainted; Fallon would go on to serve Celtic as a player and coach for many years.

Alexander Forrest Hunter (1898 – 1981) was a Scottish footballer who played for Hamilton Academical, MotherwellSandy Hunter, MotherWELLnet and Bo'ness as a full back (comfortable in either the right or left berth). Between 1921 and 1928 he played 200 times for hometown club Hamilton,Hunter, Sandy (1921), Hamilton Academical Memory Bank who were members of the Scottish Football League's top division throughout the period. He served a brief loan at Dumbarton in 1926 which consisted of one appearance in the Scottish Cup. After moving to Accies' Lanarkshire derby rivals Motherwell, Hunter was a regular in the defence for two seasons in which the club finished second then third in the league table, and took part in the 1931 Scottish Cup Final which the Steelmen lost to Celtic after a replay, having led in the first match until the final minute, and was praised in press reports for his performance in both games.

Water in Time and Space is built around the Korg M1 workstation synthesizer, whose expansive, organic-sounding palette completely replaces the digital tones from the Casio synths used by the P-Model in their later years. The M1's built-in sequencer and its large memory bank led to a shift in Hirasawa's production style; with the M1, he could record parts of songs that were not completed in studio at home, being more equipped to make music by himself and less dependent on labels. Still, some equipment from One Pattern and Monster was carried over, as well as the mechanical lo-fi sound of the former album, setting up the general production style of Hirasawa's first solo phase. The chief engineer of the album is Yoshiaki Kondo, who worked on Karkador and One Pattern, this being the first project where Hirasawa got his long-sought services unaltered.

Unified Access Gateway was originally developed by a startup company named Whale Communications in Rosh HaAyin, Israel. One of the challenges it tried to solve in the 1990s was to develop a remote access solution based on a VPN mechanism but without direct network access from the remote client to the corporate network. This type of solution was specifically required by the Israeli military and government, to meet national information security standards. The technology developed was called the Air Gap and the communication between the external network and internal network was managed by two separate 1U rack-mount servers linked together by a memory bank accessed through a SCSI interface. On 18 May 2006, Microsoft announced that it would be acquiring Whale Communications. Microsoft completed the acquisition on 26 July 2006. Following this acquisition, the product was renamed Microsoft Intelligent Application Gateway Server 2007. With this version, the SCSI-based Air Gap was dropped, and the product was unified as a single-server appliance.

An EPC RFID tag used by Wal-Mart. The Electronic Product Code (EPC) is designed as a universal identifier that provides a unique identity for every physical object anywhere in the world, for all time. The EPC structure is defined in the EPCglobal Tag Data Standard , which is an open standard freely available for download from the website of EPCglobal, Inc.. The canonical representation of an EPC is a URI, namely the 'pure-identity URI' representation that is intended for use when referring to a specific physical object in communications about EPCs among information systems and business application software. The EPCglobal Tag Data Standard also defines additional representations of an EPC identifier, such as the tag-encoding URI format and a compact binary format suitable for storing an EPC identifier efficiently within RFID tags (for which the low-cost passive RFID tags typically have limited memory capacity available for the EPC/UII memory bank).

The show shared a similar format to Five's popular daytime quiz BrainTeaser, sometimes described as its sister show. Both featured viewer puzzles where viewers at home could call in to win cash prizes. Initially the series had a flatter structure than BrainTeaser, in that all three contestants participated in all of the rounds until the final, where only the one with the highest score would proceed; however, in June 2004 the series was revamped to follow a pattern later adopted by BrainTeaser whereby one contestant was eliminated at a time until eventually only one contestant remained. The show, which began in April 2004, was last aired in October 2004; originally episodes were 30 minutes in length, and this format produced moderately high enough viewing figures to convince Five to extend the show to an hour in length by June 2004 in an attempt to emulate the more competitive format of BrainTeaser; however, this would eventually transpire to be series' undoing, as the new format proved less popular with viewers; having failed to repeat the success of BrainTeaser following the extension in length, Five cancelled Memory Bank in October 2004.

Born in Motherwell, Miller played for Larkhall United and Hamilton AcademicalMiller, Tom (1911), Hamilton Academical Memory Bank before manager Tom Watson brought him to Anfield in February 1912 for £400. Miller made his debut in a home Football League First Division match against The Wednesday on 17 February 1912, a game that finished 1–1, his first goal came a fortnight later on 2 March, a division 1 match, again, at home, and again, in a 1–1 draw, this time with Middlesbrough, a game that saw the debut of a Liverpool great, winger Bill Lacey. The inside forward was a main stay of the Reds line-up and helped the club reach their first FA Cup on 25 April 1914, unfortunately the game ended in a 1–0 defeat to Burnley. Despite the result the day will always be remembered as it was to be the last time the showpiece final was to be played at the Crystal Palace ground but, more significantly, it was also the first time the final was played in front of a reigning monarch, George V. Miller's career was interrupted by World War I, but he did return to the Merseyside club in 1919 after its conclusion.
