Revis started off the 2009 season matched up against some of football's best wide receivers. In Week 1, he helped limit Houston Texans Pro-bowler Andre Johnson to four receptions for 35 yards. In 1976 the Soviet Red Army team toured North America and played four games against NHL clubs. On January 11, 1976, the Russians matched up against the Flyers at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Entering the game the Red Army team was unbeaten, defeating both Boston and the Rangers and registering a tie against the Canadiens. Shero had studied the Soviet style of play, even traveling to the Soviet Union during different off-seasons.

Nieky Holzken made his K-1 debut on November 26, 2006 at K-1 World MAX North European Qualification in Stockholm, Sweden. He won the tournament by three consecutive KO's over Björn Kjöllerström, Joakim Karlsson and Elias Daniel. The win qualified him for the K-1 World MAX 2007 Final Elimination, where he was matched up against the reigning K-1 MAX champion Buakaw Por. Pramuk. He lost the fight by unanimous decision.

In the fall of 1957, Bellino entered the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland along with his former high-school teammate, Frank Dattilo. During his freshman year, the Plebes matched up against the Penn State freshmen.

The first playoff series ever for the Timberwolves would see them matched up against the Charlottetown Abbies.

They received the No. 15 seed in the Midwest Region, where they were matched up against No. 2 seeded Kentucky, ultimately losing 44–79.

The DIII side improved from its first year finishing the season at 4-4. In the National Quarterfinals in Charlotte, NC, Gorge was matched up against the South Champion, the Atlanta Old White. AOW jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Gorge answered back with two Josh Brown tries to tie it up.

The Fusion came out on top after extra time, which advanced them to the next round of the tournament. In the next round, the Fusion traveled to Wilmington, North Carolina, to face the Wilmington Hammerheads FC of the United Soccer League.

West Branch entered the playoffs with an undefeated record of 10-0 in the 1994 season and had clinched an NBC league title. West Branch won its first game against Copley by a score of 28-12. In the state semi-final game, the Warriors matched up against perennial powerhouse Steubenville Big Red. After a 21-7 deficit in the first half, the Warriors charged back with 3 consecutive touchdowns leading them to a 31-28 victory and a berth in the state finals.
After crippling Ajakutty, Armblessed gets into a fight with Alita in which his chain blades are matched up against her Damascus blades, with Alita coming out on top and Armblessed flying off the track and out of the race. Still arrogant in defeat, Armblessed is nonetheless chosen against his will to be a member of Alita's challenge team. He is the first player to be taken on by Jashugan, who, impervious to his chain blades, uses his arm rotors to tear Armblessed's body to shreds.
A tightly contested regular season saw Team Liquid come out with the number one seed by only a single game over Cloud9, qualifying them for a bye in the first round and a guaranteed spot in the semi-finals. Matched up against 100 Thieves, Doublelift and Team liquid cruised to a 3-1 series victory to move on to a spot in the finals against Cloud9. On the eve of the NA LCS finals, Doublelift was awarded a long-awaited NA LCS MVP for the summer split. This was his first MVP award.
Afterwards, Lavoy Allen completed a three-point play, and Khalif Wyatt stole a Dino Gregory pass to put Temple Owls in the lead permanently. The Owls outrebounded the Terrapins 42–32, and Ramone Moore scored 16 points, leading the team. On December 9, Temple Owls matched up against Georgetown. Fran Dunphy earned his 400th career victory, as his Owls upset the tenth-ranked Hoyas 68–65. At their first home game in almost a month, Temple Owls took an early 6–0 lead and did not trail the entire game.

Panamania wrestler Rafael Ernesto Medina Baeza started working as the masked character "Veneno" (Spanish for "Venom") in 2000 when he began to work for CMLL in Mexico. In CMLL he was part of Los Boricuas and through that association he was matched up against former Los Boricuas member Gran Markus Jr. in a long running storyline.
Young was set to face Jamie Seaton in the co-main event at Crowbar MMA: "Fall Brawl" on September 11, 2010, but Seaton withdrew from the fight. Young was then matched up against Liz Carmouche, but the fight was cancelled after Young signed on to take part in the filming of the Ultimate Women Challenge reality show. After the show never made it to air, Young and 6 other contestants sued the producers, claiming they were never paid. During the filming of the Ultimate Women Challenge, Young faced Julie Kedzie on September 24, 2010.
Charles Francis Fleming (May 28, 1877 - May 17, 1944) was an American football player, and a starting quarterback and placekicker for the University of Notre Dame. Fleming began the 1898 season by leading Notre Dame to a 5-0 victory over Illinois, including kicking the winning field goal. But following a win over Michigan State, the team traveled to Ann Arbor for the first time only to be shut out by Michigan, 23-0. Later, Fleming's team was matched up against Indiana for the first time, but fell to the Hoosiers, 11-5.
Adamle was born in Fairmont, West Virginia to immigrants from Slovenia. His family moved to Cleveland when he was a child, and he attended Collinwood High School on the city's east side. Adamle was a standout fullback on his high school team and made a Cleveland- area All-Star squad in 1941 that matched up against a team of stars from Florida. He was "without question the best high school player I have ever seen," one Cleveland sports editor said after he was chosen as an all-star.
The Fabiano/Gomez bout was also rescheduled for WEC 49, where Fabiano won by unanimous decision. Bantamweight contests pitting Eddie Wineland against Rafael Rebello and WEC newcomer George Roop against the returning Jesse Moreng were both scratched from this card after Rebello and Moreng both withdrew from the event. A lightweight bout between Dave Jansen and Bendy Casimir was once linked to this event, though it was later confirmed that Jansen would instead be facing Kamal Shalorus.

The Islanders won the series in 6 games on a John Tavares goal in double overtime, marking the team's first playoff series victory since 1993. The Islanders' second round matchup had them matched up against the Tampa Bay Lightning, in which they lost the series in 5 games.
It was the team's first playoff victory in 17 years. The following week, the Browns matched up against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game in Cleveland. Denver got out to an early lead, but Cleveland tied the game and then went ahead 20–13 in the fourth quarter. After the ensuing kickoff, the Broncos were pinned at their own 2-yard line with 5:32 remaining. Denver quarterback John Elway then engineered a 98-yard drive for a touchdown with the cold, whipping wind in his face.
While their Serie A campaign proved moderately successful, the 2006–07 season is best remembered for the team's performance in the Champions League. The penalties imposed after the Calciopoli scandal resulted in Milan being seeded third in the final 2005–06 Serie A table, thus the team was forced to play in the Champion's League Qualifiers, where they were matched-up against former European champion Red Star Belgrade. Milan were victorious in the qualifier and advanced to the group phase, which they would eventually win. Milan's starting lineup against Liverpool in Athens.

Boss went on to gain two more receptions in the Divisional and Conference rounds of the playoffs against the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers respectively. Boss and his team then went on to Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Arizona, where they were matched up against the previously undefeated New England Patriots. Boss only caught one reception, but took his opportunity and sprinted for a 45-yard gain that would eventually set up a five-yard touchdown pass. It was the longest play from scrimmage in the game.

Jenkins set a new career high in receiving yards in 2008 with 777.
After two years of fighting in smaller shows in Brazil, Miranda was selected to participate in one of the regional K-1 qualifying tournaments, on November 2, 2007 in Istanbul, Turkey. In the quarterfinals he was matched up against local fan favorite Erhan Deniz. He won the hard fought battle by majority decision, as well as his other next two fights in the evening and was declared the K-1 Turkey champion. The win qualified him for K-1 European Elimination GP held on February 9, 2008 in Budapest, Hungary.

After an undefeated regular season the Broncos were matched up against fellow undefeated TCU to play in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Despite being a relatively low scoring game, the final minutes became exciting after a fake punt attempt by the Broncos led to a score. With a 17–10 lead, 1:06 remaining on the clock and TCU on their own 1-yard line, the Broncos simply needed to prevent a touchdown. But TCU, led by quarterback Andy Dalton covered nearly 60 yards in under 45 seconds, setting themselves up for a potential game tying score.
In his first fight of the 2000 Pride tournament Sakuraba once again found himself matched up against a heavier opponent, this time the well-regarded 205-pound fighter, former King of Pancrase Guy Mezger. Greatwich and the team went one better in the following game against defending champions Vietnam, when Greatwich scored a goal and an assist on Phil Younghusband's goal to win 2–0. Following a 0–0 draw in the final group game against Myanmar, the Philippines were matched up against Indonesia in the semi-finals. Both games were played in Jakarta following the ASEAN Football Federation's decision that the Philippines had no suitable venue to host the semi-finals, and lost both games 1–0. Greatwich suffered the misfortune of being sent-off in the final moments of the second leg.
In their rematch, Baroni suffered a second loss to Lindland by another judges' decision. He was then matched up against a teammate of Matt Lindland, future UFC Middleweight Champion Evan Tanner at UFC 45 – Revolution. Baroni dominated the beginning of the match against Tanner, but when the fight was stopped to check a cut on Tanner, Tanner regained his composure and the momentum turned, leading to the referee stopping the fight due to Baroni taking several undefended strikes on the ground. This decision was controversial as the referee Larry Landless had asked Baroni if he wanted to quit.

The Swift Current Broncos represented the Western Hockey League at the 1993 Memorial Cup. The Broncos were the top team during the 1992-93 season, finishing with a league best record of 49-21-2, earning 100 points, as they won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy. Swift Current was a very high scoring club, scoring a WHL high 384 goals, while defensively, the Broncos allowed 267 goals, ranking them sixth in the sixteen team league. The Broncos earned a first round bye in the playoffs, advancing straight to the East Division semi-finals, where they matched up against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

This respect for one another is why most famous gunfights were rarely two or more well-known gunmen matched up against one another, but rather one notable gunman against a lesser-known opponent or opponents. These fights were usually close-up and personal, with a number of shots blasted from pistols, often resulting in innocent bystanders hit by bullets gone wild. Much of the time, it would be difficult to tell who had "won" the gunfight for several minutes, as the black powder smoke from the pistols cleared the air. The Monarchs finished the 2018–19 season 26–9 overall, 13–5 in C-USA play to win the regular season championship. In the C-USA Tournament, they defeated Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals, UAB in the semifinals, to advance to the championship game, where they faced off against Western Kentucky, winning the game, earning the C-USA's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament, they received the No. 14 seed in the South Region, where they were matched up against No. 3 seed Purdue, losing the game by a final score of 48–61.
The Bruins finished the 2018–19 season 27–6 overall, 16–2 in OVC play to finish as Ohio Valley regular season co-champions, alongside Murray State. Undefeated heavyweight champion George Foreman had little trouble in his two fights the previous year. The Chesapeake Icebreakers were a minor league ice hockey team that played in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) from 1997-1999. They were coached by noted NHL enforcer Chris Nilan for both of their seasons. The Icebreakers 34-28-8 record was good for 76 points and 3rd place in the Northeast Division, 15 points behind the division leading Roanoke Express. Seeded 6th in the playoffs and matched up against the 3rd ranked Toledo Storm, they would be swept 3 games to 0.

Chad McConnell took home playoff MVP honors.

José Luis Mendieta Rodríguez began wrestling as a masked soldier character known as "Rambo" in 1981 working primarily for the Universal Wrestling Association as a rudo.
On November 2, 2005, during the Lakers' season opener against the Denver Nuggets, Bynum played six minutes and became the youngest player ever to play in an NBA game at age . During the game, he missed his two field goal attempts but had two rebounds and two blocks. In his second season, Bynum was still the youngest player in the league, due to his draft year being the last that a player could be drafted straight out of high school. In a game against the Miami Heat on January 16, 2006, Bynum matched up against former Laker center Shaquille O'Neal for the first time.

He started the year off by defeating the previously undefeated Francesco Damiani to capture the WBO Heavyweight title. Following that victory, Mercer was matched up against another undefeated fighter in Tommy Morrison for what would be the first and only defense of his WBO title. Morrison outboxed Mercer for the first three rounds, but Mercer came back strong in the fourth round and proceeded to knock out Morrison in brutal fashion by pinning him against a corner and landing several unanswered, heavy blows until the referee stopped the bout 28 seconds into the fifth round.
The Ducks faced the Calgary Flames in the Western Conference quarter- finals and forced a seventh game in Calgary, shutting-out the Flames to reach the Conference semi-finals. In an interesting playoffs, all the bottom seeds won in the first round, so the Ducks matched-up against the seventh-seeded Colorado Avalanche. Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov shined as the Ducks swept the Avalanche in four-straight games, Bryzgalov breaking Giguere's scoreless streak record from the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs. In the franchise's second Western Conference Finals appearance, they faced the eighth-seeded Edmonton Oilers, a series the Ducks would ultimately lose in five games.

On October 1, 2008, Drury and the Rangers won the Victoria Cup, defeating Metallurg Magnitogorsk by a score of 4–3. After the departure of Jaromír Jágr from the Rangers to play in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Drury was named the 25th captain in Rangers history on October 3, 2008. In 2004, the Ice Dogs went one better and claimed the AIHL championship and the Goodall Cup for the first time in the team's history. They matched-up against the dominant North Stars, who won all but one match in the regular season, in the final for the second season in a row but this time they defeated them 3–1. The Mississippi Surge were again crowned the Regular Season Champions and received the 2010–11 William B. Coffey Trophy for the second year in a row. The Surge played the Knoxville Ice Bears in the first round of the 2010–11 SPHL Playoffs and advanced to the President's Cup Finals after winning the series 3–2. In the SPHL Finals, the Surge were matched up against the second seed Augusta Riverhawks and swept the series 3–0 claiming their first President's Cup. The Surge moved into their third year of operation under new ownership as the Pensacola Ice Flyers owner, Tim Kerr, bought the team from Coast Hockey LLC.

There, Moscow Five was able to come out victorious against Fnatic in a close 2-1, qualifying for the Season 2 World Championship in Los Angeles and advancing to the grand finals of the tournament. Continuing their dominant performance, Diamond would help win the finals 2-0 against SK Gaming.
After the completion of the 2014–15 A-League regular season, the top six teams qualified for the finals series. Teams finishing 3rd-6th placed (Adelaide United, Wellington Phoenix, Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar) began the series in the elimination-finals, with the top two teams (Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC) receiving byes into the semi-finals. The 2018 NHL Winter Classic (officially the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic) was an outdoor regular season National Hockey League (NHL) game, part of the Winter Classic series, played on January 1, 2018. The game featured the Buffalo Sabres matched up against the New York Rangers at Citi Field in the New York City borough of Queens, home of Major League Baseball's New York Mets. The game marked the 10th anniversary of the NHL Winter Classic, following the success of the 2003 Heritage Classic in Edmonton, Alberta. The 2018 game marked the second Winter Classic for each team, following the Rangers' appearance in the 2012 event and the Sabres' in 2008.

The Rockland hockey team made a run to the South Sectional Finals in 2011-12, posting a regular season record of 14–5–1 while knocking off Blue Hills Regional and Somerset-Berkley in the first two round respectively. In the South semifinals, Rockland matched up against the No. 2 team in the state and No. 1 in the south: Medfield. The Warriors had the best goalie in the state by far, stopping 180 shots out of 202 taken up to that point. Fayfer added seven more wins in 2016, capping the year off with a first-round knockout (KO) of former IBO world champion Fulgencio Zúñiga in Montpellier that improved his record as a pro to 18–0. American Major League Baseball outfielder Lefty O'Doul was instrumental in spreading baseball's popularity in Japan, serving as the sport's "goodwill ambassador" in the mid-1930s, and again after World War II. Japanese-American outfielder Fumito "Jimmy" Horio (who hailed from Hawaii) became the first American to play professional baseball in Japan when he joined the Dai Nippon Tokyo Yakyu Kurabu (later known as the Tokyo Giants) in December 1934, touring with them in 1935."Jimmy Horio," Baseball- Reference.com. Kentucky played a much- anticipated game versus Kansas on December 16, 1950, with Spivey matched up against Jayhawks center Clyde Lovellette. The Wildcats won by 29 points as Spivey outplayed Lovellette, in what he later called the best performance of his college career. After one steal, he drove to the Kansas basket and did a slam dunk; this was rare for Kentucky basketball at the time, as Rupp instructed players not to dunk during games.Nelli and Nelli, p. 68. Spivey set another school record in a February 13, 1951, game, gathering 34 rebounds. As of 2017, he remains tied for the team record with Bob Burrow, who had the same number of rebounds in a 1955 game.
The main game mode is dungeon exploring in which an unlocked dungeon can be selected to be played and replayed in order to unlock further dungeons. The second mode is Player vs Player, in which one can randomly be matched up against another online player. The third mode consists of material gathering expeditions, where the player sets a Follower card to collect materials off-screen in real time while which the player can continue playing the other modes but is unable to use the chosen Follower card until it finishes its expedition. Followers and Character cards alike can have their stats raised to become stronger versions of themselves by giving them material gifts and other cards to consume.

Before that match could take place, Tyson was pulled out with an injury and shortly after, was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison for the rape of Desiree Washington. Fry 3rd from L, 2nd row with NSW team who met the All Golds in Sydney 1907 Fry was one of the New South Wales rugby union players who matched up against the first professional New Zealand team, Albert Baskiville's 'All Golds' in three matches in Sydney in August 1907. The New South Wales rugby union side had defeated the All Blacks 14–0 in their second of two matches in 1907 and so were expected to be tough opponents. The first professional game was played on the Royal Agricultural Society Ground to a sell-out crowd of 20,000. Played under rugby union rules, the All Blacks led 6–0 at halftime and closed out the match, winning 12–8.
In the playoffs, they were matched up against the defending Western Conference Champions, the Utah Jazz. After winning Game 1 by 20 points, the Jazz surrendered two consecutive playoff games to the Kings. They would turn the series around, however, and win the last two to keep the Kings from advancing in the playoffs. Less than two months later, Alves faced off against veteran contender Chris Lytle at UFC 78. After an exciting stand-up battle, doctors halted the bout at the end of the second round because of a cut above the eye of Lytle—declaring Alves the winner by doctor stoppage. In his first bout of 2008 at UFC Fight Night 13, Alves faced his biggest test to date, as he was matched up against welterweight contender Karo Parisyan. After resisting any attempts to grapple but failing to amount any significant offense during the stand-up exchanges throughout the first round, "The Pitbull" scored a knee to the head of Parisyan, knocking down the judo expert before finishing him on the ground with strikes.
Perhaps Doan's most memorable moment as a Jet was his seventh and final goal as a Jet, which came on April 12, 1996, during the team's last regular season home game, where he scored the game-winning goal against the Los Angeles Kings in the second period to make the score 4–2 for Winnipeg. The game would finish 5–3 and the win clinched a playoff spot for the Jets. In the playoffs, the Jets were matched up against the first seeded Detroit Red Wings and lost in six games. At the 2014 AFC Annual Awards, Western Sydney Wanderers was named Asian Club of the Year, and Tony Popovic Asian Coach of the Year. The club's Asian success however, was not replicated in the beginning of the A-League season, with the team managing only three draws out of the first nine matches. The team's poor domestic run was put on hold while the team travelled to Morocco for the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup, where Wanderers faced Mexican side Cruz Azul in a quarter-finals clash on 13 December 2014. After going down to 9-men, Wanderers failed to hold onto the lead late into the match; an unfavourable 3–1 scoreline in extra-time saw Wanderers matched-up against ES Sétif of Algeria in a fifth place play- off.
Sapp won by technical knockout in the first round after the doctor stopped the match on cuts. Despite the loss he was again matched up with Sapp in the quarter finals of the K-1 World Grand Prix 2002. After trading knockdowns with Sapp in first round, Hoost lost again in a wild slugfest when referee Nobuaki Kakuda declared a KO while Hoost was still standing, but after the fight, Sapp turned out to have broken his hand and suffered four cracked ribs, and wasn't able to continue, allowing Hoost to replace him in the semi-finals. Hoost beat Ray Sefo in first round by TKO, after Sefo damaged his shin against Hoost's kneecap. Hoost proceeded to his fifth K-1 Finals, and was matched up against Jerome Le Banner.
A win, then a draw to Mounties FC in the Round 14 make-up game, then two more losses, meant Sydney FC Youth only picked up four points out of a possible 24, with title hopes looking shaky. However, Sydney FC Youth would get back on track with wins against Bankstown City Lions FC and St George FC. Sydney FC Youth remained undefeated in the final four rounds of the regular season to win the Premiers Plate, two points ahead of Western Sydney Wanderers Youth. In fact, the final day was a very tense affair, as the two clubs were matched up against each other. The Wanderers, who were trailing by 3 points and −10 points differential needed a very large win to leap-frog the Sky Blues.

In his previous fight Roy Jones Jr. had captured the WBC light heavyweight championship after defeating Mike McCallum, making Jones a three-division world champion after previously winning titles in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. The Terriers finished the 2018–19 season 30–5 overall, 18–0 in SoCon play to finish as SoCon regular season champions. On February 25, the Terriers entered the AP Poll at No. 24, earning their first AP Poll appearance in program history. In the SoCon Tournament, they defeated VMI in the quarterfinals, East Tennessee State in the semifinals, advancing to the championship, where they defeated UNC Greensboro, finishing with a perfect conference record, and earning the SoCon's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. In the NCAA Tournament, they received the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region, where they were matched up against No. 10 seeded Seton Hall in the First Round, winning the game by a final score of, 84–68, earning their first NCAA Tournament win in program history.
MLS awarded the top three finishers in each conference last season automatic berths into the 2008 U.S. Open Cup's Third Round. D.C. United, the New England Revolution, and the New York Red Bulls qualified from the Eastern Conference while Chivas USA, the Houston Dynamo, and FC Dallas qualified from the Western Conference. The rest of MLS's U.S.-based teams would have to compete for the final two berths into the Third Round via a seven-team playoff. Eventually Chicago Fire and the Kansas City Wizards qualified by beating the Columbus Crew and the Colorado Rapids respectively. Each of the qualified MLS teams was matched up against the winner of a Second Round game, all of whom came from either one of the USL's three divisions or the USASA, in the Third Round on July 1.
The Panthers reached the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history and matched up against the New England Patriots, the game would be an instant classic as both teams went back and forth throughout the game. On the first defensive snap of the game for the Panthers, Peppers stormed into the Patriots backfield with a speed rush from his left Defensive End spot pressuring and hitting Tom Brady right as Brady released the ball for a completion to WR Deion Branch. Two plays later on the Pats opening drive Peppers was cut blocked by Patriots Offensive Tackle Tom Ashworth, but Peppers recovered quickly and nearly deflected the pass as it whizzed by.
In 1996, the club renamed to Wollongong Wolves. In the 1999–2000 season the team finished the league in second position and after winning their semi-final match 2–1 against Carlton, Wolves were matched-up against Perth Glory in the 2000 NSL Grand Final. The grand final match went down as one of the best comebacks ever seen in Australian football. At half time Perth Glory were leading 3–0, but at 56 minutes the Wolves found a goal through Scott Chipperfield to make it 3–1. Matt Horsley gave the Wolves a sniff at a comeback when he put the ball in the back of the net in the 69th minute, but it wasn't until Paul Reid pulled the game right back when his strike in the 89th minute made the score line 3–3.
In the 2000–01 season, Davis had his most productive season yet, averaging 13.7 points, with 10.1 rebounds plus 1.4 blocks a game and was elected to the NBA All-Star Team for the first and only time in his career. That season the Raptors won 47 games, good enough for second place in the Central Division and advanced to the playoffs for the second year in a row, where they faced a talented Knicks team led by Sprewell and Houston and no longer featured Ewing. The Raptors defeated the Knicks in five games including a 93-89 game five victory with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks from Davis. Professional baseball in Japan first started in the 1920s, but it was not until the Greater Japan Tokyo Baseball Club (大日本東京野球クラブ Dai-nippon Tōkyō Yakyū Kurabu) a team of all-stars established in 1934 by media mogul Matsutarō Shōriki, that the modern professional game found continued success—especially after Shōriki's club matched up against an American All-Star team that included Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig, and Charlie Gehringer. While prior Japanese all-star contingents had disbanded, Shōriki went pro with this group, playing in an independent league. The first Japanese professional league was formed in 1936, and by 1950 had grown big enough to divide into two leagues, the Central League and the Pacific League, together known as Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). From 1912 to 1925, the team finishing on top of the ladder after the home-and-away rounds was automatically deemed premiers unless two clubs were on equal points at this point in which case a final was held. This move by the New South Wales Rugby League may well have been in response to Eastern Suburbs’ victory in the season before, where they overcame minor premiers Glebe in two successive finals to claim the premiership. With four rounds remaining in the 1912 season, Eastern Suburbs and Glebe were clearly ahead of the rest of the teams and it looked unlikely that they would be caught. The two clubs were matched up against each other in Round 11 at the Sydney Sports Ground in what would ultimately decide the fate of the premiership, with Glebe just two points behind Eastern Suburbs on the ladder.

The Ospreys defeated USC Upstate to win the A-Sun Tournament title in front of a record crowd at UNF Arena The 2014–15 North Florida Ospreys men's basketball team represented the University of North Florida during the 2014–15 college basketball season. The Ospreys competed in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Atlantic Sun Conference (A-Sun). They were led by sixth year head coach Matthew Driscoll, and played their home games at UNF Arena on the university's Jacksonville, Florida campus. In their sixth season as a full Division I member, the Ospreys won their first Atlantic Sun Conference regular season and tournament championships and received their first ever NCAA Tournament bid. As a No. 16 seed in the south region, they were matched up against fellow No. 16 seed Robert Morris in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.

Bregy made his K-1 debut on June 3, 2000 at K-1 Fight Night 2000 in Zürich, Switzerland, against Reinhard Ulz. He won the fight by 2 round KO. On May 21, 2005, in Stockholm, Sweden, Bregy beat all three opponents Pavel Majer, Denis Grigoriev and Gary Turner and won his first K-1 tournament title. In 2006 Bregy continued his strong performance in K-1 World GP in Amsterdam, winning the tournament by three consecutive KO's over Freddy Kemayo, Naoufal Benazzouz and Gokhan Saki and qualified himself for K-1 World GP Final Elimination 2006 in Osaka, Japan. He was matched up against the defending K-1 World champion Semmy Schilt, and lost the fight by first round left hook KO. On February 9, 2008 at K-1 Europe Elimination GP in Budapest, Hungary, Bregy knocked out Paula Mataele and qualified for the K-1 European GP held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
On February 7, 1997, Lennox Lewis and Oliver McCall had a rematch to determine who would become the next WBC Heavyweight Champion, as the title had been vacated by previous champion Mike Tyson after Tyson chose not to face Lewis, who was the mandatory challenger. The two were placed in adjacent lanes and ran evenly through the bend, but Lyles started to pull away on the straight and finished in 19.67 s. It was his fourth time under 19.70 s in the same season. Only one other individual has been under 19.70 s four times in a career, world record holder Usain Bolt who also did it four times during his record-breaking 2009 season. In 2019, Lyles opened the season by running 100 meters races, running a 9.86 (+0.9) world leader in Shanghai on May 18. The A's matched up against first place Wareham in the playoff semi-finals, and promptly disposed of the Gatemen in two games. In the championship series, Chatham met up with Hyannis in a best three-out-of-five title tilt. The A's went on the road for Game 1, and came away with a tight 5–4 win in 11 innings. Game 2 at Veterans Field also went to extra frames, with the Mets taking a 4–3 lead in the 11th, but the home club tied it in the bottom half, and then took the lead in the 12th to win by another 5–4 tally. Reliever Kurt Lundgren got the win in both games, coming on in the eighth inning of Game 1, then in the 12th inning of Game 2 to nail it down after starter Kanwisher held the mound through eleven. After two nail- biters, Game 3 at McKeon Park was a runaway.
Butler in 2015 Following the departures of Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner, and Kyle Arrington, Butler was promoted to a starting cornerback position at the start of the 2015 season. During Week 2, against the Buffalo Bills, Butler caught his first regular-season interception and returned it to the Bills 30-yard line. On November 15, Butler was matched up against New York Giants' Odell Beckham Jr., who made four catches for 104 yards and a touchdown on twelve targets. Butler made a strip of Beckham in the end zone when it looked like Beckham had secured possession of the football for a touchdown. The touchdown, which would have given the Giants a 30–24 lead with 1:45 to play, was nullified by the officials and helped the Patriots hold the Giants to a field goal, after which Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 54-yard field goal for the Patriots to win with 1 second remaining.
After leaving the UFC, Arlovski signed with the newly created MMA-promotion Affliction and participated in their inaugural event Affliction: Banned on 19 July 2008. He fought and defeated top ranked heavyweight fighter and former IFL heavyweight stand-out Ben Rothwell by KO in the final round of the fight, ending Rothwell's 13 fight win streak and giving him his first defeat in over 3 years. Originally scheduled to face former UFC Heavyweight Champion and top-ranked heavyweight Josh Barnett in the main event at Affliction's second pay-per-view, Affliction: Day of Reckoning, on 11 October 2008, the event was rescheduled and Arlovski would instead be matched up against the last reigning IFL Heavyweight Champion Roy Nelson at EliteXC: Heat on 4 October 2008, in Sunrise, Florida in a co-promotion with EliteXC. Arlovski won the fight via KO in the second round and in the process became the only man to ever finish Nelson in his MMA career at that point.
In the Cape League title series, Cotuit was matched up against the Lower Cape champion Yarmouth Indians, who had won CCBL crowns in two of the previous three seasons. Mayo one-hit the Indians in Game 1, but it wasn't enough as the Kettleers took a tight 3–2 loss at home. Cotuit bounced back in Game 2 with a 5–0 Kilroy shutout at Yarmouth. The Kettleers sent Butkus to the mound for the pivotal Game 3 at Lowell Park, and the home team came away with a 7–2 win, clinching Cotuit's first CCBL championship. The 1962 Cotuit club returned outfielder Capo and hurlers Kilroy, Butkus and Mayo, and added CCBL Hall of Fame catcher Jack McCarthy. McCarthy, like Butkus the previous season, joined the team as a 17-year-old Boston Latin School student. The '62 Kettleers boasted ten batters with season averages over the .300 mark, including McCarthy, Capo and Mayo, as well as the infield quartet of Jeff Helzel (1B), Bill Prizio (2B), Paul Morano (SS) and Stan Sikorsky (3B).
After that, Holyfield agreed to a unification match with IBF heavyweight champion Michael Moorer, who had previously defeated Holyfield over three years prior to capture the WBA and IBF titles. Hoylfield would avenge his previous loss to Moorer, gaining five knockdowns over him before the fight was stopped after the eighth round. With Holyfield now once again in possession of two of boxing's major heavyweight titles, talks for a unification match with Lennox Lewis, who held the WBC heavyweight title, began. LeBanner was able to make it back to his feet however his corner threw in the towel to avoid further injury. The final match of the 2007 K-1 World Grand Prix was a rematch from the year before, with Schilt matched up against fellow Dutchman Peter Aerts for the third time. The match came to an abrupt end 1:49 in after Aerts injured his knee and could not continue. With the win Schilt became the third man to win the K-1 World Grand Prix three times, and the only man in history to win three consecutive Grand Prix crowns. In September 2008, Schilt lost a decision against Peter Aerts at the K-1 World Grand Prix Final 16 in Seoul. Schilt had small roles in the feature films Transporter 3 and Amsterdam Heavy. On 16 May 2009, Schilt lost to Badr Hari via first-round KO at the Dutch Kickboxing event It's Showtime 2009 Amsterdam, Netherlands. The fight was for the It's Showtime World Heavyweight Title.
Werder finished the 2007–08 Bundesliga in second place and received a spot in the 2008–09 UEFA Champions League group stage as a result. They were matched up against Inter Milan, Panathinaikos, and Anorthosis Famagusta in Group B. The Champions League campaign got off to a poor start for Werder when the first tie of the round against heavy underdog Cypriot side Anorthosis ended in a 0–0 draw in Bremen. In 2006, Bailey had 10 interceptions (tied for best in the NFL with Asante Samuel) and did not give up a touchdown during the season. Bailey, San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson and Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor were unanimous choices for the NFL All-Pro team. Following the season's conclusion, Bailey finished second in voting for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In 2009, Bailey did not allow a touchdown in 80 passes thrown his way that year, played on 98% of the snaps and remained one of the best-tackling cornerbacks in the game. On September 15, 2009, Bailey was chosen for the Broncos 50th Anniversary team by the Denver community. This team was honored during the halftime show of the Legacy game versus the Patriots on October 11. In 2010, Bailey matched up against some of the NFL's best wideouts. He held Dwayne Bowe to no catches on 2 targets. The Arizona Cardinals only completed 3 passes on him for 19 yards in a game where he matched up with Larry Fitzgerald.
In addition to Cepicky, the A's boasted an abundance of top moundsmen. 6-foot-8 righty Kyle Snyder was the league's Outstanding Pro Prospect, Tim Lavigne was the Outstanding Relief Pitcher, and CCBL Hall of Famer Rik Currier had an all-star season, posting a 5–2 record with a 2.37 ERA. After sweeping Brewster in the playoff semi-finals, the A's met Wareham in the best-of-five championship series. Snyder started Game 1 of the 1998 title set for Chatham at Clem Spillane Field, but got roughed up by the Gatemen, who took the opener, 6–4. The A's held serve in Game 2 at Chatham as Jeremy Wade tossed a complete game five-hitter in the home club's 5–1 victory. Game 3 at Wareham was a classic pitcher's duel as Currier was matched up against CCBL Hall of Famer and future major league all-star Ben Sheets for the Gatemen. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 14th when the Gatemen walked off with the game's only run.
In the 2009 WAC Tournament, the Bulldogs were matched up against Hawaii and advanced to the quarterfinal against the top-seeded Utah State Aggies. During the game, he forced a career-high 5 steals and finished with a team-high 16 points; however, despite his effort the Bulldogs lost, 85–68.
