Portrayed by Allison Munn since season six. Miss Lauren is Jamie's teacher in season six. She first appears in episode sixteen by being invited round dinner to dinner round Dan's beach house. Jamie became jealous and angry of Dan when he was telling funny stories of Jamie, Jamie walks in and confronts Dan and Lauren and screams "he was in prison" and storms out.

Meanwhile, after being invited round for supper by Helen, Sharon goes in search of some old childhood photos in Helen's garage, and unexpectedly comes across Lesley's necklace, hidden inside a music box. Sharon confronts Phillip, but he denies murdering Lesley. During their heated confrontation, Sharon's rage turns into lust, and the pair end up having sex. Sharon informs Phillip that she intends to protect him, whatever the cost.

It is at one point implied that Sheridan has come out to his father. Hyacinth's neighbour Elizabeth Warden (Josephine Tewson) is frequently invited round to the Buckets' for coffee. Though she is ordinarily calm, Elizabeth's nerves go to pieces in Hyacinth's house, causing her to smash Hyacinth's china and spill coffee and biscuits on Hyacinth's Burmese rug. She is married with a daughter away at university, yet her husband works abroad and, like Sheridan, neither character ever appears.

According to the account of Wreckless Eric (aka Eric Goulden), the song "Sweet Gene Vincent" was composed on 1 December 1976, the same day as the Sex Pistols' infamous appearance on the Today show hosted by Bill Grundy. In Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll: The Life of Ian Dury Eric describes being invited round to Dury's flat that day, only to interrupt Dury and Jankel working on a new song. When Eric asked what the song was called, Dury replied that it was named "Sweet Gene Vincent".

The two later made up and Calderwood was later invited round McDougall's for dinner, with Billy Connolly and Brian Cox present. McDougall was assaulted in Glasgow's West End in 1995, with an assailant brandishing a knife whilst walking home with his son. He was stabbed above the eye and taken to the Western Infirmary, where his wounds required more than 20 stitches. In 2004, McDougall wrote three short dramas for the stage, starring - amongst others - Robbie Coltrane and Sean Scanlan, which were presented at the Òran Mór in Glasgow as part of the lunchtime theatre event A Play, A Pie and A Pint.

Ted catches up with the Yin family just before they leave in their car and comes up with a story to provide an excuse for his actions. He later leaves the house again to go shopping and discovers that rumours that he is a racist are spreading across the island. Ted tries to disprove the rumours but his explanations are either rejected or hampered by ill luck. At one point, Ted stands at the window, which has a perfectly square black piece of dirt on it, and waves to the Yin family, whom he invited round to convince them that he is not a racist.

Offbeat London comic Bob Mills presents the first of two pilot programmes. He has gathered together music, moments from films and television series, stories, and observations on life, and discusses them with a live studio audience who - together with viewers - have been invited round to his pad for the night. In the first programme Bob looks at the black hole that is afternoon television; unearths the moment when a contestant in Family Fortunes answered with the word "turkey" to all the questions (an incident also referred to in episode one, series one of the sitcom 15 Storeys High); and takes a look at life on a London council estate. Along the way he reflects on what has happened to such old friends as the "Watney's Party Seven", "Aztec" chocolate bars, Clyde Best, and "Crimplene".
