Max Weber considered production during ancient times as never warranting classification as factories, with methods of production and the contemporary economic situation incomparable to modern or even pre-modern developments of industry. Dr. Khalid Basalamah said the prominence of al-Samit in the conquest of Egypt and Levant are noted by Middle Ages and contemporary historians, who praise him as a patron of the Qur'an, Hadith, and science as well as a venerable military figure whose contribution to the spread of Islam in Syria, Palestine, and Africa is almost incomparable. To this day his presence is revered by many Palestinian Arab communities who preserve his tomb in Ramla, Palestine. Historical book author Simon Sebag Montefiore writes the keeper of al-Samit's tomb today hails from the Nusaybah clan, a modern Arabic generation that claims to be descendants of both al-Samit and Nusaybah, sister of al-Samit. the Palestinian Arabs in general also regard him as an influential figure as evidenced by the public sermon by Dr. Yusuf Juma Salama, one of the official khattib of Al-Aqsa Mosque that also spoke of al-Samit as the first judge of Palestine.

Despite success in ratings, the series initially received mixed reviews, with fans of the original British version describing the Australian show to be incomparable to that version in terms of quality, structure, judgement and skill of the contestant. Other commentators have also criticised the show for using a competition format similar to other reality shows such as Australian Idol, The Biggest Loser and Project Runway Australia that focuses more on the elimination of contestants than the food and cooking itself. Ten's programming chief David Mott admitted that using the new format was "a huge risk", while FremantleMedia's Paul Franklin has asserted that "for a commercial audience we needed to pump it up and make it bigger, a little over the top, with more drama and storytelling and a sense of theatre". Since Series 5 (2012) however, when the show began filming in Melbourne, rather than Sydney, the producers changed the original format during the qualifying round for the top 24 to one similar to MasterChef USA; the remainder of the show however stuck more or less to the original Australian format though.
