Due to concerns by the Orthodox Jewish rabbinate in Britain that texting by youths could waste time and lead to "immodest" communication, the rabbinate recommended that phones with text-messaging capability not be used by children; to address this, they gave their official approval to a brand of "Kosher" phones with no texting capabilities. Although these phones are intended to prevent immodesty, some vendors report good sales to adults who prefer the simplicity of the devices; other Orthodox Jews question the need for them. In Israel, similar phones kosher phones with restricted features exist to observe the sabbath; under Orthodox Judaism, the use of any electrical device is generally prohibited during this time, other than to save lives, or reduce the risk of death or similar needs. Such phones are approved for use by essential workers, such as health, security, and public service workers.

It includes instructions for all students to avoid: "backbiting, cheating, dishonesty, drunkenness, gossip, immodesty of dress, lying, occult practices, profanity, sexual promiscuity (including adultery, homosexual behavior, pre- marital sex), theft, and vulgarity (including crude language)." Other actions that students must agree to refrain from, both while on and away from campus, include: "the use of tobacco in any form, alcoholic beverages, hallucinogenic drugs and substances (including marijuana), or narcotics not authorized by a physician", gambling, and using or possessing pornography. And, in keeping with the institution's focus on Christian principles, the document states: "Members of the community are to observe the Lord's Day (Sunday) as a day set apart primarily for worship, fellowship, ministry, and rest." These principles are set in place to hold students accountable for creating a learning environment that stands out from other universities and offers unique benefits to the health and well-being of the student.

Greek courtesans, or hetaerae, are said to have frequently practiced male-female anal intercourse as a means of preventing pregnancy. A male citizen taking the passive (or receptive) role in anal intercourse (paedicatio in Latin) was condemned in Rome as an act of impudicitia (immodesty or unchastity); free men, however, could take the active role with a young male slave, known as a catamite or puer delicatus. The latter was allowed because anal intercourse was considered equivalent to vaginal intercourse in this way; men were said to "take it like a woman" (muliebria pati, "to undergo womanly things") when they were anally penetrated, but when a man performed anal sex on a woman, she was thought of as playing the boy's role. Likewise, women were believed to only be capable of anal sex or other sex acts with women if they possessed an exceptionally large clitoris or a dildo.

After the band's demise, Ian and Rod continued writing and this work produced "England's Glory" recorded by Max Wall and "What a Waste", later recorded by Ian and The Blockheads which became Ian's first Top Ten hit. As well as playing on Brian Eno's albums Another Green World, Music For Films and Nerve Net, Melvin has worked with performers such as Lindsay Kemp, Evelyn Kunneke, and Immodesty Blaize and has continued his work as a live pianist and singer in many different venues. More recent work has included live accompaniment of incidental music for several productions at the National Theater and collaboration with film director Peter Richardson on several films such as Stella Street (2004), Churchill: The Hollywood Years (2004) and TV commercials, some of his music was also used in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010). Rod took part in a unique series of performances in February 2013 at the ICA, London for Will Gompertz, the BBC Arts Editor at the time.

The Catholic Church did not take a political stance on women's suffrage at the start, rather its spiritual leaders pronounced concerns about the impact of political engagement in the role of women in civil society, for example Cardinal Manning the Archbishop of Westminster (a former Anglican) said in 1871 at St. Mary Moorfield he hoped English womanhood would ‘resist by a stern moral refusal, the immodesty which would thrust women from their private life of dignity and supremacy into the public conflicts of men. His successor, Cardinal Vaughan, was more open to change and was reported as saying '‘I believe that the extension of the Parliamentary Franchise to women upon the same conditions as it is held by men would be a just and beneficial measure, tending to raise rather than to lower the course of national legislation.’ Morrissey clearly was among the Catholic community who agreed with the more liberal approach, and was seen as principled in her prison experience as reported in the Catholic press. Morrissey and fellow Catholic WSPU leader, Patricia Woodlock were imprisoned in March 1907, for suffragette activism.
