The current, 16th edition, of the Alpine Club Guide for the Allgäu Alps adopts a coarser division into only twelve subgroups.
At the outbreak of the War of the Second Coalition in March 1799, and the dissolution of Congress on 7 April 1799, Merveldt returned to his regiment, which by this time had crossed the Lech and Iller rivers, and was advancing into Swabia. During the campaigns of 1800, he commanded the left wing by Eckartsweiler at the Battle of Alt-Breisach on 25 April, and on 10 May conducted a rear-guard action to protect the Imperial army's withdrawal. He remained with his brigade on the right bank of the Danube, where he directed a series of bold actions against the French, and then along the Iller and Lech rivers, he organized a series of well-timed thrusts designed to keep the French from pushing the retreating army. After the battle at Offenburg, he was promoted to lieutenant field marshal on 4 September 1800.
Cansu Çetin began her sports career at the age of 13 in Çankaya Belediyespor in Ankara. Between 2008 and 2010, she played in the youth, junior and senior teams of İller Bankası. In 2010, she transferred to Eczacıbaşı VitrA. Her club loaned out her between 2011 and 2014 to Sarıyer Belediyesi, which became champion in the 2011–12 season, and was so promoted to Turkish Women's Volleyball League.
Alessya Safronova (born 10 February 1986) is a Kazakhstani female volleyball player. She was part of the Kazakhstan women's national volleyball team. On club level she played for Iller Bankasi in 2013. During the 2018 Asian Games she led the team to victory over Philippines, and despite an error, ended up scoring 11-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-19, 14-16 with personal best being 13 markers.
1998, p. 86. Aichstetten Shell siding is served daily by tankers hauled by private locomotives. Shortly after Aichstetten, the line turns north again and runs directly line to the stations of Marstetten-Aitrach, Mooshausen, which has been disused since the 1970s, and Tannheim. At Tannheim the track takes another sharp turn to the east and crosses the Iller on a large viaduct; at this point the border runs along the river.

The Münsingen station, is located on the Reutlingen–Schelklingen railway. On Sundays and holidays from early April to late October regional trains and special trains bring mainly hikers and sightseers to their destination. In addition, throughout the year goes from Monday to Friday, some regional trains direction Ulm or direction Gomadingen. Since early 2008 Münsingen is connected with a transition tariff also to the Donau-Iller-Nahverkehrsverbund (DING).
The Rot during a period of flooding The Rot near Achstetten The Rot is a southern tributary of the river Danube in the region of Upper Swabia in Baden- Württemberg in Germany. It has a length of 56 km. The Rot runs in a northerly direction parallel to the river Iller to the east, and Westernach to the west. Both these rivers are also tributaries to the Danube.
Smith, p 173 The following year he commanded on the Rhine against Jean Moreau. As a consequence of his defeats at the battles of Stockach, Messkirch, Biberach, Iller River, and Höchstädt, Kray was driven into Ulm. However, by a skillful march round Moreau's flank he succeeded in escaping to Bohemia. After a 15 July truce became effective he was relieved of his command by Emperor Francis II and dismissed from the service.
Supported by financing by the city, the Iller Valley Railway connected Memmingen to the railway network in 1862. The first section from Memmingen to Neu-Ulm opened on 12 October 1862 and the southern portion from Memmingen to Kempten was put into operation on 1 June 1863. It was originally a joint post office and railway station. It became a railway junction on 1 May 1874 with the opening of the Buchloe–Memmingen line.
The outlines of this structure are visible on aerial photographs. The Hil(de)gartstraße in Achstetten is a reminder of an early mediaeval trade route. It is a relic of a route leading from Konstanz via Meersburg towards Ulm and then further via Heidenheim to Aalen and Würzburg, terminating at Fulda. There is evidence to indicate that a road towards the crossing of the river Iller branched off on the territory of Achstetten.
The municipality (Gemeinde) of Altheim covers of the Biberarch district of the state of Baden-Württemberg, in the Federal Republic of Germany. Altheim is physically located on the left bank of the Danube, on the Iller-Lech Plateau. Elevation above sea level ranges from Normalnull (NN) on the Danube as it flows into Riedlingen to NN on top of the Österberg. The Storchenwiesen Federally-protected nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) is located within Altheim's municipal area.
Wirtembergisches Urkundenbuch, p. 21 The charter is still kept in the archives of the monastery of St Gallen, Switzerland. This reference is the earliest of any city in Upper Swabia and any parish in the district of Biberach. Situated in the vicinity of two major trade routes between the Lake of Constance and Ulm and the Swabian Alb and the valley of the river Iller respectively, Laupheim developed into a major settlement.
The old terminal station was demolished; Kempten-Hegge station was also closed after the commissioning of the new station. An educational complex, a shopping centre (Forum Allgäu) and an events hall (BigBOX Allgäu) were established in the former station area. The Iller bridge on the station approach was converted into a road bridge and the earlier wooden bridge which had been converted to a road bridge was converted again for cyclists and pedestrians.
As of 2010 it had several projects under implementation, of which the most recent one is the Samsun wastewater project signed in 2005 supported with a Euro 30 million loan. In addition, an Environmental Framework Loan for Iller Bank estimated to reach Euro 150 million for water, sanitation and solid waste management was under preparation in 2010.European Investment Bank:Water, sewerage and solid waste projects in Turkey 2002-2010. At the east of Kronburg, an oil mill was operated. At Buxheim, west of the pond Buxheimer Weiher, the river Reutenbach diverges from the Buxach. Only very little water flows through that direct connection; the Reutenbach is mostly fed by the outflow of the Buxheimer Weiher, which is away. The Reutenbach flows northwards through Buxheim and feeds a fish pond near Egelsee (district of Memmingen), then also flows into the river Iller.

The line connects with the Mittenwald Railway and the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway at Garmisch- Partenkirchen, with the former providing a link to the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck. It connects with the Bavarian Allgäu Railway and the Iller Valley Railway at Kempten. The line was built in stages, between 1895 and 1913. Although the Austrian section of the line is maintained by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), all train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn (DB).
The album was released in Italy, Germany, Spain and Brazil and featured an orchestra conducted by Iller Pattacini. Its German- language counterpart was thereafter recorded and would be released in the upcoming year. In 1969, she released her sixth studio album Tango Inspirationen, an album released in Germany and composed of tango standards performed in German and Italian. Amongst the songs performed on the album were La Cumparsita, A Media Luz (Guardando intorno a te) and Adios, Pampa Mía.
The Danube glaciation, Donau glaciation () or the Danube Glacial (Donau-Glazial) was named by Barthel Eberl in 1930 after the River Danube. It did not appear in the traditional, quadripartite ice age schema of the Alps by Albrecht Penck. The Danube was the oldest glaciation in the Alps for which there was evidence outside of the Iller-Lech region. Danube Stage was thought to be preceded by the Biber-Danube interglacial and followed by the Danube-Günz interglacial.

For this purpose, a separate distribution company was established, the Ulmer Getränke Vertrieb GmbH, UGV. Gold Ochsen and its subsidiary UGV are still the largest beverage distribution companies in the Donau-Iller region. In 1991, Ulrike Freund became the fifth generation of her family to run the brewery, replacing her father August Leibinger, the previous managing director. Since 2012, the brewery has operated two bottling lines, that can each fill more than 40,000 bottles per hour.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure doubted whether the platform could actually be eliminated if long-term service improvements (including the planned Danube- Iller Regional S-Bahn) are to be implemented. A critic sees the S-Bahn concept compromised if the fifth platform is not provided from the outset. If a fifth platform is actually necessary, according to the DB, funding would have to be provided for separately. The DB is not aware of formal plans for an S-Bahn.
Even valleys that appear rather insignificant today such as those of the Isar, Loisach and Ammer rivers, were able to produce large tongues of ice when their glaciers were fed by larger ones, such as the Inn Valley Glacier (e.g. via the Fern Pass). By contrast with such large glaciers, quite isolated valleys, such as those of the Iller or the Lech, could only produce much smaller glacial tongues. A further prerequisite for glaciers extending into the Alpine foreland are high mountains.

The Haslach glaciation (), Haslach Glacial Stage (Haslach-Glazial), Haslach Complex (Haslach-Komplex) and Haslach Ice Age (Haslach-Eiszeit) are historical terms for a cold period of the Pleistocene epoch. Haslach was not included in the traditional glacial schema of the Alps by Albrecht Penck and Eduard Brückner. (3 volumes) The glacial stage was first described around 1981 by A. Schreiner and R. Ebel. Its type region is the Haslach Gravels (Haslach- Schotter) in the area of the Riss-Iller-Lech Plateau.
The late Roman castrum was probably one of the numerous border fortresses built under Emperor Valentinian I in the final phase of Roman rule over the Rhine provinces, but only briefly occupied. It was part of the chain of forts of the Danube-Iller-Rhine Limes in the section of the Maxima Sequanorum province. The fort was probably occupied by Roman troops from the 4th to the 5th century AD who were responsible for security and surveillance tasks along the Rhine border.
This new railway would see only the RegionalExpress trains going from Ulm via Sigmaringen to Neustadt (Schwarzwald), which would significantly cut the trip times. The old section between Ehingen via Blaubeuren, which is densely populated, would be served by a new S-Bahn in the Ulm area. The new section has been tagged with a cost of 75 million Euros. The regional association Donau-Iller supports these plans, which are opposed by the state government of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The mainly Alamannic raids, especially around the middle of the 3rd century AD, necessitated a new military security plan for the northwestern borders of the Roman Empire. The Upper German-Rhaetian Limes had never been thought of as a military defensive system and was therefore abandoned after 260 (the so-called Limesfall). The frontier troops were withdrawn to positions behind the more easily controlled rivers of the Rhine ("Rhenus"), Danube ("Danuvius") and Iller ("Hilaria"). Around 290, the systematic expansion of the new military border defences began.
One time, he was walking across the territory of the hospital and noticed a soldier who was pretending to be iller than he truly was in order to avoid serving. In a rage, the soldier hit Philipp on the head with a stick. Philipp, however, refused to press charges. After an honorable discharge in 1960, he initially worked in a clinic, but could not bear it; he was used to treating patients from start to finish and expected that his medical recommendations would be followed.
The Allgäu Alps as a geographical unit and mountain range of the Alps span two countries and four federal states. The Bavarian portion accounts for slightly more than half of the total area and coincides to a large extent with the catchment area of the River Iller. The Baden-Württemberg portion comprises only the extreme northwest of the Allgäu Alps, in its broader sense, by the Adelegg. The Tyrolean portion largely comprises the Lech river and its tributaries and the Vorarlberg part centres on the catchment area of Bregenzer Ach.
Passing under Parson Road Bridge, the creek receives Little Beaver Creek from the left before passing under Clapshaw Hill Road Bridge and receiving Fir Creek from the right and passing under Route 8 at the community of Gales Creek. Here Iller Creek enters from the right at RM 11.44 (RK 18.41). Flowing south, Gales Creek receives Clear Creek from the right, Kelley Creek from the left, and Godfrey Creek from the right in quick succession. It then passes under Roderick Road Bridge and receives Roderick Creek from the right from the mouth.
Philipp Jakob Wieland took over his uncle’s fine art and bell foundry in Ulm’s Rosengasse in 1820 and by 1828 he was producing brass sheet and wire. Around 1900, he also started to produce rods, tubes and sections. In 1865, the company started production at the new Vöhringen plant using hydropower from the River Iller. In 1919, the OHG (Offene Handelsgesellschaft, open trading company) converted into Wieland-Werke AG. This was followed by the development of new technology and machinery as well as the acquisition of additional plants.
Abbey Gate Abbey church with unfinished towers and southern wing of monastery Interior of Abbey church Chancel by Fidel Sporer Library interior Bookshelf in library Wiblingen Abbey was a former Benedictine abbey which was later used as barracks. Today its buildings house several departments of the medical faculty of the University of Ulm. The former abbey is located south of the confluence of the rivers Danube and Iller, south of the city of Ulm in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Administratively, the former independent village of Wiblingen now belongs to the city of Ulm.
While the main army was headed for a showdown at the Battle of Austerlitz, the VII Corps operated against enemy troops in the Vorarlberg. The French tracked down Franz Jellacic's Austrian division on the upper reaches of the Iller River.Chandler Campaigns, 402-403 On 13 November 1805, Augereau, accompanied by Desjardin's 1st Division forced Jellacic to surrender in the Capitulation of Dornbirn. Three generals, 160 officers, and 3,895 rank and file laid down their arms and were permitted to march to Bohemia where they were not to undertake operations against France for one year.
He decided to concentrate his army farther west on the Iller River so he could counterattack any French invasion coming through the Black Forest. As part of his new strategy, Feldmarschall-Leutnant Franjo Jelačić (also Franz Jellacic) was ordered to move from Feldmarschall-Leutnant Archduke John's Army of the Tyrol to Lake Constance. Mack expected to have 50,000 to 55,000 troops in position near Ulm by the end of September. Jellačić would hold the left flank with 11,000 soldiers while Feldmarschall-Leutnant Michael von Kienmayer 12,000-man corps watched the Bavarians from Ingolstadt.
Extensive archaeological excavations at the end of the 19th century and again during the 1950s at what were then the outskirts of Kempten unearthed the extensive structural foundations. The city was again destroyed in 233 AD by the Alemanni, a Suebic tribe. The original site of Cambodunum was then abandoned and the settlement moved to a strategically safer location on the Burghalde hill overlooking the river Iller. In the middle of the 5th century the last Roman troops had left the area and the city was entirely taken over by the Alemanni.
After the Romans abandoned the settlement, it was moved from the hill down to the plains located next to the river Iller. In written sources, the town appears as Cambidano. Being still predominantly Alemannic, the town once more was destroyed by the Franks in 683 as a consequence of the city's support of an uprising against the Frankish kingdom. Around 700 a monastery — Kempten Abbey — was built, the first in the Allgäu region, founded by two Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint Gall, Magnus von Füssen and Theodor.
The Limes in Germania Superior and Raetia. Castra Alteium is listed as Vicus Altiaienses in the upper-left quadrant The Castra Alteium () is a former late- Roman border fort on the Danube-Iller-Rhine Limes (DIRL). It is located in the territory of the city of Alzey in Rhenish Hesse, Germany. The fort was presumably built in the course of the last reconstruction measures on the Rhine frontier between 367 and 370 AD under the western Emperor Valentinian I. Previously, there was a Roman civilian settlement (Vicus), Altiaia, which was devastated by Alamanni in 352/353.
It is the phenomenon in financial markets, in which stock returns on Mondays are often significantly lower than those of the immediately preceding Friday. One theory attributes it to the tendency for companies to release bad news on a Friday after the markets close; which depresses stock prices on the following Monday. This is analogous to the theory put forward by some health professionals that challenge the (health) weekend effect by saying it is due to the tendency of GPs and nursing homes etc. to admit their iller patients on a Friday—so they do not have a problem over the weekend.
The Iller joins the Danube at Ulm, dumping massive amounts of water into the stream; at Donauwörth, the Lech enters the Danube. Neuburg, the first significant city on the river after Donauwörth, had been the family seat of the princes of Pfalz-Neuburg; taking it from a princely family of the Holy Roman Empire would be a blow to the morale and prestige of the Habsburgs, whose role it was to protect the small princely domains. Control of the bridges and passages between Ulm and Donauwörth, Neuburg, then Ingolstadt offered an advantage of both transport and prestige.Andrew Beattie, The Danube: A Cultural History.
He was then made commander of the 11,000 man corps connected to Latour on the Lech in the Vorarlberg. He served at the combat of Kammlach 13th, then the following month faced Pierre Marie Barthélemy Ferino on the upper Iller and Tyrol, pursuing him during Moreau's retreat to the Rhine. Fröhlich joined with Charles and Latour to defeat Moreau at the Battle of Emmendingen on 19 October 1796 and Battle of Schliengen five days later. In 1799 he was made Colonel Proprietor (Inhaber) of Infantry Regiment Nr. 28 and commanded a 14,000 man division in Italy.
Very few protohistoric settlement remains have been found in the Allgäu region although a grave dating from the migration period has been found in the Leutkirch area. The area was probably settled by Alemanic tribes before the establishment of the Danube-Iller-Rhine limes during the Roman period. The town was created with the merger of the villages of Ufhofen and Mittelhofen and vestiges of those settlements were found under the old church of St. Martin. First mention of the church is found in a document of the Abbey of St. Gall dating back to 766.
The Bavarian part of the Allgäu Alps is located entirely within the province of Swabia. The county of Oberallgäu incorporates the central area around the Iller; the county of Ostallgäu contains the northeastern areas such as Tannheim group, and the county of Lindau includes the northwestern part of the Allgäu Alps in its broader sense. The Tyrolean part of the Allgäu Alps is located entirely within Reutte and the Vorarlberg part is entirely within Bregenz. Looking at the Allgäu Alps in a wider sense, including the Adelegg, the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg also has share.
The name Gunz glaciation, Gunzian glaciation or Günz glacial stage (, also Günz-Glazial, Günz-Komplex and Günz-Eiszeit) goes back to Albrecht Penck and Eduard Brückner, who named this ice age after the River Günz in their multi-volume work, Die Alpen im Eiszeitalter ("The Alps in the Ice Age Period") which was published between 1901 and 1909. Its type region is the Iller-Lech Plateau. It is the oldest glaciation of the Pleistocene in the traditional, quadripartite glacial classification of the Alps. The Günz was thought to follow the Danube-Günz interglacial and was ended by the Günz- Haslach interglacial.
After Emperor Francis I of Austria upheld Mack and sacked Mayer, the Austrian army began concentrating on the Iller. The flanks were held by Franz Jellacic's 11,000 troops near Lake Constance and Michael von Kienmayer's 12,000 men at Ingolstadt on the Danube.Rothenberg, p 89 While Jean Lannes's V Corps and Joachim Murat's Cavalry Corps moved directly east on Ulm, the rest of Napoleon's army swept past Ulm on the north bank of the Danube.Chandler, p 390 Crossing the river to the east of the Austrians, the French I, II, III, IV, and VI Corps got between Ulm and Vienna.
This would require the electrification of the line. In addition, the construction of a new connection to the Ulm–Sigmaringen railway from Erbach to Ehingen was investigated in the course of planning for the Regio-S-Bahn Donau- Iller but was discarded. To compensate for the impact on the timetable of building Merklingen (Schwäbische Alb) station on the Wendlingen–Ulm high-speed railway, €3 million have been earmarked for upgrades on the Southern Railway. Due to the additional stop, the travel time for regional trains between Stuttgart, Ulm and Friedrichshafen would be extended by two minutes.
Löscher's Kristallinreiche Liegendfazies, by contrast, originates from the bedrock of the molasse zone. The term Biber glaciation was not part of the traditional four-stage glaciation schema of the Alps by Albrecht Penck and Eduard Brückner, but was named after the Biberbach river north of Augsburg in 1953 by Ingo Schaefer, based on the naming system of the traditional Penck schema. Its type region is the Stauden Plateau in the Iller- Lech Plateaux and the Staufenberg Gravel Terrace in the area of Aindling. The Biber glaciation was thought to be followed by the Biber-Danube interglacial and the Danube glacial.
The vexillation in castle courtyards oversaw probably the section of road to the nearby provincial capital of Augusta Vindelicorum Augsburg Presumably, this unit was also equipped with rowing boats and controlled so that, inter alia, the Danube marshes west and east of the Lech mouth. With the loss of Dekumatlandes had become a border town Cambodunum (Kempten). From Kempten to Iller mouth of the Empire's border ran along the river. Most likely was (0.7 ha) mentioned in the Notitia Dignitatum about 200 men stationed strong Legio III Italica vexillation of the higher grounds of the castle mound.
He then approached Dettingen, Blindheim (Blenheim) and Höchstädt. The Corps of General Grenier has been posted with their right flank to the Danube and Gunzburg, and their left flank at Kinsdorf. General Richepanse protected both shores of the Iller, covering the road from Ulm south to Memmingen, and secured communication with Switzerland; there, he withstood considerable skirmishing with the Austrians. Three divisions of reserve remained at the hamlets of Kamlack and Mindel, to support the attack made by General Lecourbe on Ulm, in a case it should succeed, or Grenier's attack upon Gunzburg, in case Lecourbe should not succeed.

The Lentienses (German Lentienser) were a 4th-century Germanic tribe associated with the Alemanni, in the region between the river Danube in the North, the river Iller in the East, and Lake Constance in the South, in what is now southern Germany. They were reported to be one of the most rebellious tribes at the time. There are only two mentions of the Lentienses, both by the Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus (330-395). First, they appeared in 355 when the Roman commander Arbetio was ordered by Emperor Constantius II to fine the Lentienses for several incursions the Roman Empire.
On 15 February 2008, the German Federal Minister of Transport, Wolfgang Tiefensee and his Swiss counterpart, Moritz Leuenberger signed in Memmingen a Memorandum of Understanding in relation to the development of the Munich–Lindau route, including the electrification of the section between Geltendorf and Lindau Aeschach. The building of a central bus station on the station forecourt and the relocation of the nearby car park to the west is also planned. It is planned to integrate the Mindelheim–Memmingen route into the Ulm–Neu-Ulm–Günzburg–Mindelheim–Memmingen line of the Danube-Iller Regional S-Bahn (Regio-S-Bahn Ulm/Neu-Ulm). between 2020 and 2025.
About 70% of Württemberg belongs to the basin of the Rhine, and about 30% to that of the Danube. The main river, the Neckar, flows northward for 186 miles (300 km) through the area to join the Rhine, draining with its tributaries (notably the rivers Rems, Kocher and Jagst) 57% of the former state of Württemberg. The Danube flows from east to west across southern Württemberg, a distance of 65 miles (100 km), a small section of which crosses through former Hohenzollern territory. Just above Ulm the river Iller, which forms the boundary between Bavaria and Württemberg for about 35 miles (56 km), joins the Danube.
The French invasion in late September and early October caught the Austrians unprepared and severed their lines of communication. On 22 September Mack decided to hold the Iller line anchored on Ulm. In the last three days of September, the French began the furious marches that would place them at the Austrian rear. Mack believed that the French would not violate Prussian territory, but when he heard that Bernadotte's I Corps had marched through Prussian Ansbach, he made the critical decision to stay and defend Ulm rather than retreat to the south, which would have offered a reasonable opportunity at saving the bulk of his forces.
There were no corps and division staffs such as existed in the French army, which had permanent brigades, divisions, and corps. The French armies had won notable victories in 1800, but under Emperor Napoleon I of France they were even more powerful and effective in 1805.Epstein, pp 23-24 To Austria's greater disadvantage, the nominal army commander, Archduke Ferdinand Karl Joseph of Austria-Este was at odds with his deputy, Karl Mack von Lieberich. The archduke and Mack's chief of staff Anton Mayer von Heldensfeld wanted to halt at the Lech River as originally planned, while Mack desired to keep marching to the Iller River at Ulm.
SC 130 also included two oilers for mid-ocean re-fueling and re-arming, and the convoy rescue ship Zamalek. Ranged against them were 25 U-boats in three patrol lines, which had been organized by U-boat Command BdU on 15 May. This was in response to intelligence from the signals intelligence group B-Dienst which reported a westbound convoy (ONS 7) and two eastbound (HX 238 and SC 130) approaching the Air Gap. One group, Iller, of six newly arrived boats was just arriving, while two other groups, Donau I and Donau II, were formed from boats already on station plus reinforcements.
On 12 October 1862, the Iller Valley Railway was opened from Neu-Ulm to Memmingen with four trains running daily and it was extended to Kempten on 1 June 1863. The same day, the second track of the Fils Valley Railway from Ulm to Stuttgart was taken into operation after four years of construction. Once the Royal Bavarian Railways Office was moved to New Ulm, on 1 January 1861, the operations of the existing Württemberg and Bavaria joint station was transferred completely to Württemberg, with the exception of vehicle and locomotive operations, by 1 December 1863. Part of Bahnhofstraße (station street), which was completed in 1867, was built in January 1865, covering over the Blau.
The Alpine Foreland has been shaped under the influence of the ice ages and has a rich variety of landforms. A molasse basin of extensive Tertiary and Quaternary sediments —silt and clay, sand and sedimentary rocks from Alpine erosion— overlay the Alpine nappes. Features such as the morainic hills, gravel sandar and lakes have left a record of various glaciation stages in this region. The Alpine Foreland is crossed by the rivers Iller, Wertach, Lech, Isar and Inn, its western boundary roughly being formed by the border of the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia with the State of Baden-Württemberg, and its eastern boundary being the Salzach river on the border with Austria.
Krumbach (elevation 512 m (1680 ft)) is situated in Mittelschwaben in the natural region Lower Iller-Lech Gravel Plateau (a part of the region between Danube and the Alps) in the valley of the Kammel, a left tributary of the Mindel river and so an indirect tributary of the Danube river. The landscape is marked by forests and areas in agricultural acreage (fields and grassland). The next bigger cities respectively towns are Ulm, approximately 40 kilometres northwest of Krumbach, Augsburg, 48 kilometres northeast of Krumbach, Memmingen, about 40 km kilometres southwest of Krumbach, Mindelheim, 30 kilometres south of Krumbach and Günzburg, 27 kilometres north of Krumbach. The distance to Munich is approximately 120 kilometres.
Before the southern portion of the railway had been completed, work had already begun in Augsburg on the Maximilian Railway (Bayerischen Maximiliansbahn) which would run westwards towards Neu-Ulm and the frontier with Württemberg. The landscape to the west of Augsburg was less challenging than the route to the south, and the line towards Ulm could already be opened as far as Dinkelscherben on 26 September 1853. By 1852 the Ludwig South-North railway extended as far south a Kempten where a large timber bridge, the King Louis Bridge, built for two tracks carried it over the River Iller. The bridge would be replaced by a concrete structure, but not before 1906.
The chief mountains include the Black Forest on the west, the Swabian Alb or Rauhe Alb stretching across the middle of the area from south-west to north-east, and the Adelegg mountains in the extreme south-east, adjoining the Allgäu Alps in Bavaria. The Rauhe Alb (or Alp) slopes gradually down into the plateau on its southern side, but on the north it appears sometimes rugged and steep, its line broken by isolated projecting hills. The highest summits, the Lemberg 3326 feet (1014 m), the Ober-Hohenberg 3312 feet(1009 m) and the Plettenberg 3293 feet (1004 m), lie in the southwest. To the south of the Swabian Alb the plateau of Upper Swabia stretches to Lake Constance and eastwards across the Iller into Bavaria.
The Eschach rises in the Buchenberg Forest that adjoins the Adelegg range and runs along the northeastern edge of the range in a mainly northwesterly direction before discharging into the Aitrach, whose waters make their way into the Danube via the northwards running Iller. At the southeastern end of the range is the little pond of Eschacher Weiher which, despite the name, is not connected to the Eschach. The Wengener Argen flows past the Adelegg to the south in an east-west direction and empties into the Untere Argen that runs past the southwestern end of the mountains from southeast to northwest, before its waters flow into Lake Constance and thence into the Rhine. The Adelegg is thus on the Rhine-Danube Watershed.
Plans for a possible relocation of the route cutting off the Tannheim Arc came up for discussion in 2009. According to the proposal, which was not approved, a new route would have roughly followed the route of the disused branch line to Legau from Memmingen to directly connect with Aichstetten, running south of Dickenreishausen and crossing the Iller near Illerbeuren. The Bavarian Ecological Democratic Party, citizens of Buxheim and Memmingen’s Mayor Ivo Holzinger, in particular, were in favour of the proposed bypass of part of Württemberg. The municipality of Buxheim sees itself as most affected by the intensification of traffic and the associated noise levels because the town itself—now a suburb of Memmingen—has now spread close to the line.
The nearest motorway interchange is about two kilometers away and is located on the edge of belonging to Bad Grönenbach industrial park Thal. The train station at Bad Grönenbach is located outside the village in the district Thal, about 2.5 km from the village center on the Illertalbahn. Originally, the railway line should lead directly to Bad Grönenbach, but was redesigned in 1862 to the existing route. Bad Grönenbach is the starting point of the Iller Cycle Route between Ulm and Oberstdorf and the Kneipp Cycle Path, which was established in 1997 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Sebastian Kneipp and connects the Kneipp spa towns of Bad Grönenbach, Ottobeuren and Bad Wörishofen with a length of around 50 kilometers.
The World Bank currently finances a municipal services project implemented by Iller Bank. The project, initially approved in 2005, received a first loan of US$ 275 million and additional financing of US$ 240 million in 2010. The project finances investments in the cities of Antalya (water supply and sewerage), Denizli(water supply, sewerage and storm water drainage), Mersin (water supply), Beypazari (water supply, sewerage and wastewater treatment), Istanbul (sewerage in the Akfirat area), Kayseri (solid waste landfill) and Kirsehir (water, sewerage and storm water drainage).World Bank: Additional Financing for the Municipal Services Project, Annex 3 The Istanbul Municipal Services Project, supported through a US$ 336 million loan and approved in 2007, had 43% of its proceeds earmarked for water supply and sanitation.
It is archaeologically difficult to distinguish Diocletian's fortifications from those of his successors and predecessors. The Devil's Dykes, for example, the Danubian earthworks traditionally attributed to Diocletian, cannot even be securely dated to a particular century. The most that can be said about built structures under Diocletian's reign is that he rebuilt and strengthened forts at the Upper Rhine frontier (where he followed the works built under Probus along the Lake Constance-Basel and the Rhine–Iller–Danube line),Carrié & Rousselle, L'Empire Romain, 166 on the Danube- where a new line of forts on the far side of the river, the Ripa Sarmatica, was added to older, rehabilitated fortressesEdward Luttwak, The Grand Strategy of the Roman Empire. Baltimore: JHU Press, 1979, , p.
The defensive facilities there, as illustrated by the large number of small fortresses, were not intended to ward off major attacks, but to ensure an almost unobstructed surveillance of the limes and deter plundering. Up to 378, the Romans invariably invaded the settlements of the Germanii living beyond the limes (for example, under the emperors Julian Apostata or Gratian) to punish the tribes living there and intimidate them so that they refrained from attacks on the Empire. So late-Roman frontier defence was based, on the one hand, on the fortified belt of the Danube–Iller–Rhine Limes and, on the other hand, on offensive operations and preventive strikes in the tribal areas, as well as on alliances with Germanic princes. When around 400, these punitive expeditions were discontinued, the security situation deteriorated rapidly.
During October 1966, Francis recorded several Italian language tracks at Milan Ricordi Studios in Rome, Italy. Some tracks were Italian language cover versions of her current US hits, such as Spanish Nights and You, while others were of Italian origin, such as "Regent's Park" (the theme song for an Italian television mini series, Melissa, based on a Francis Durbridge's story, starring Rossano Brazzi, Laura Adani, Aroldo Tieri, Turi Ferro, Luisella Boni, Esmeralda Ruspoli and directed by Daniele D'Anza) and "Canta ragazzina", her entry for the 1967 edition of the Sanremo Festival. The album was produced by Pete Spargo and engineered by Val Valentin; the orchestra being conducted by Iller Pattacini. The album consists of traditional Italian songs brought up to date with combined arrangements of traditional Italian instruments (e.g.
The region of Upper Swabia is situated in the central south of Germany consisting of the south-east of Baden-Württemberg and the south-west bavarian Swabia region and lies on the Iller-Lech Plateau, also known as the Upper Swabian Plain, one of the natural regions of Germany. The landscape of Upper Swabia was formed by retreating glaciers after the Riss glaciation, leaving behind a large number of shallows which quickly filled up with water. This led to the large quantity of lakes in Upper Swabia. The landscape of Upper Swabia is quite hilly rising from approximately 458 metres above sea level in the valley of the river Danube to a maximum of 833 metres above sea level in the south-west of Upper Swabia only to drop again to 395 meters above sea level at Lake Constance.
The Danube Valley Railway has a reputation as one of the most beautiful railways in Germany, and its charming course through the Upper Danube Nature Park (Naturpark Obere Donau), and the boom in bicycle tourism on the Donauradweg, have made the line especially popular with bicyclists and hikers. The railway traverses three districts of the state of Baden-Württemberg, as well as Ulm, which is not a constituent of a district, and is managed by three public transport associations (Verkehrsbund). In Ulm, as well as in the districts of Alb-Donau and Biberach, namely between the stations Ulm Hauptbahnhof and Riedlingen, the Danube Valley Railway is part of the Donau- Iller-Nahverkehrsverbund (DING) transport association. In the district of Sigmaringen, between Herbertingen and Sigmaringen , the railway is part of the Verkehrsverbund Neckar-Alb-Donau transport association (naldo).
The Danube-Gunz interglacial (), Danube-Gunz warm period (Donau-Günz- Warmzeit), often just Danube-Gunz, or also Uhlenberg interglacial (Uhlenberg- Warmzeit) are historical terms for a hypothetical warm period of the Pleistocene in the Alps, between the Danube and Gunz glacials. The interglacial was defined as the erosion phase that followed the Danube glacial and preceded the Gunz stage. It is therefore represented by the gap between the two depositions that are attributed to the two cold periods; in the type regions of the two glacial there are various depositions. In the area of the Iller-Lech Plateau they lie between the Lower Deckschotter (Untere Deckschottern) of the Zusam Plateau and the Intermediate Deckschotter (Zwischenschottern); in the region of the Salzach Glacier between the Eichwald Schotter and the Older Deckenschotter (Ältere Deckenschottern); and the area of Traun and Enns between the Prägünz Schotter and the Older Deckenschotter.
They were created in the fashion of the French departements, quite even in size and population, and named after their main rivers: Altmühl-, Eisack-, Etsch-, Iller-, Inn-, Isar-, Lech-, Main-, Naab-, Oberdonau-, Pegnitz-, Regen-, Rezat-, Salzach- and Unterdonaukreis Because of the numerous territorial changes in 1810 and 1815, the divisions needed to be adjusted and the number of Kreise was reduced to 8: Isar-, Unterdonau-, Oberdonau-, Regen-, Rezat-, Untermain-, Obermain- and Rheinkreis. As of 1838, at the instigation of King Ludwig I, the Kreise were renamed after the former historical tribes and territories of the respective area in: Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, Swabia and Neuburg, Upper Palatinate and Regensburg, Middle Franconia, Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg, Upper Franconia and Palatinate. The town names of Neuburg, Regensburg and Aschaffenburg were later dropped. Accordingly, the king changed his royal titles to Ludwig, King of Bavaria, Duke of Franconia, Duke in Swabia and Count Palatine of the Rhine and these were retained by his successors.
"Table" The ice sheet advances of the cold period were mostly well beyond the glacial lake of the previous ice sheet. In most areas, the Riss terminal moraines have formed as low embankments, for example in the area of the Inn Glacier, the Isar-Loisach Glacier, the Iller Glacier, and in the area of the western Rhine Glacier. In the type region in Biberach there is a clear, but rather atypical double moraine ridge, also atypical is the double terrace here, which is probably due to heavy erosion as the meltwater runoff moved from the Wellheim dry valley and Altmühl valley into the present day Danube valley, a process that took place during the Riss glaciation. The double ridge of the type region (Doppelwallriß, with an outer and inner ridge) is a result of two superimposed sequences of glacial deposits which indicates that the Riss was subdivided into at least two stadials.
Danube–Iller–Rhine Limes, Argentovaria in lower-left quadrant Layout of Argentovaria Reconstruction of the fort in the late 4th century Argentovaria, also known as Ödenburg, is the collective term for a late Roman military installation and a civilian settlement in the area of Biesheim in Elsass (Canton Neuf-Brisach, Arrondissement Colmar-Ribeauvillé, Communauté de communes du Pays de Brisach). The ancient sites of Biesheim-Kunheim and Ödenburg-Altkirch owe their importance to their position at an important crossing over the Rhine. In the 1st and the 4th centuries AD the area was dominated by the military, but in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, the civilian settlement came to the fore. During the great barbarian invasions in the 4th and 5th centuries AD Argentovaria was probably part of a chain of forts that also included the fortifications on the right bank of the Rhine on the Münsterberg in Breisach and on the Sponeck in Sasbach am Kaiserstuhl.
In the summer timetable of 1860, Ulm was first served by a scheduled night train and in 1865 a night train ran from Vienna to Paris, stopping at Ulm station. From 1862, four pairs of trains operated on the newly opened Iller Valley Railway between Ulm and Kempten. On 15 May 1867, an express service was established on the Paris–Ulm–Vienna route, which took 19 hours and ten minutes from Ulm to Paris and 16 hours and 35 minutes from Ulm to Vienna. In 1874, six trains ran daily from Ulm to Stuttgart, seven trains ran from Stuttgart to Ulm, five train pairs ran between Ulm and Friedrichshafen, six pairs of trains ran between Ulm and Augsburg, four pairs of trains ran between Ulm and Kempten and five pairs of trains ran between Ulm and Blaubeuren. On 5 June 1883, the first Orient Express from Paris to Constantinople stopped in Ulm at 11:35 after leaving Paris Gare de l'Est at 19:36 on the previous day.
His jurisdiction extended at that time from the Iller eastward over the Lech, north of the Danube to the Alb, and south to the spurs of the Alps. Moreover, various estates and villages in the valley of the Danube, and in Tyrol, belonged to the diocese. Among the bishops of the following period, a certain number are especially prominent, either on account of the offices they filled in the Empire, or for their personal qualifications; thus Witgar (887-87), Chancellor and Archchaplain of Louis the German; Adalbero (887–910), of the line of the Counts of Dillingen, confidant and friend of Emperor Arnulf, who entrusted Adalbero with the education of his son, the German King Louis the Child, distinguished for generosity to the monasteries. The See of Augsburg reached the period of its greatest splendor under Saint Ulrich (923-973); he raised the standard of training and discipline among the clergy by the reformation of existing schools and the establishment of new ones, and by canonical visitations and synods; he provided for the poor, and rebuilt decayed churches and monasteries.

The station building of 1874 in 1910 On 12 October 1862, the Iller Valley Railway was opened from Neu-Ulm to Memmingen with four trains running daily and it was extended to Kempten on 1 June 1863. Some changes were made up to 1869 and the station was equipped with gas lighting in 1872. On 15 February 1871, the Bavarian State Railways took the Neu-Ulm depot (Bahnbetriebswerk Neu-Ulm) in operation. By September 1874, in the wake of the expansion of the station complex, a new station building was built in Renaissance Revival style, which was designed by the Bavarian architect Friedrich Bürklein. In March 1892, the duplication of the Maximilian’s Railway between Augsburg and Neu-Ulm was completed, so that the whole line between Munich and Stuttgart via Ulm was duplicated. From 1877 to 1944, a line of the Ulm tramway stopped at Neu-Ulm station. From 1931 to 1933, the Maximilian’s Railway from Ulm to Augsburg was electrified by Deutsche Reichsbahn and it was opened for electrical operations on 25 April 1933. The entire route from Stuttgart to Munich was open for electrical operations on 5 May 1933. In the Second World War the first air raid took place on Neu-Ulm station on 16 March 1944.
