By junior year, Roberts' ambitions had shifted to medicine in earnest. In 1954, Roberts graduated early from Southern Methodist University with a bachelor's degree in the arts, having been accepted to Emory University's School of Medicine. To earn money, Roberts worked for the National Forest Service for the three months between college and medical school. Early in his medical school training, Roberts proved to be a gifted anatomist and earned a prestigious thoracic surgery externship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center before graduating Emory in 1958 with his medical doctorate.

The proposal is reviewed by a panel who will determine if the Project had the potential to be completed successfully. Upon acceptance into the Senior Project, students will enroll in a preparatory course during the 3rd term of their senior year and then commence their externship during the final quarter of their senior year. Since 2003, she has regularly taught courses at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she founded and leads an appellate litigation externship program. She also founded the Philadelphia Project in 2011, a partnership between Dechert and The Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia to improve the quality of education for children with disabilities. Many law schools have started to supplement classroom education with practical experience. Externship programs allow students to receive academic credit for unpaid work with a judge, government agency, or community legal services office. The College of Law offers the Juris Doctor (J.D.), which is the first professional law degree. The three-year program provides students a foundational first-year program, a legal writing program, and a varied offering of upper-level courses, seminars, clinics, and co-curricular activities. Externship programs exist in the United States and abroad — including at the International Bar Association in London, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague, the Special Court of Sierra Leone, in Washington, D.C., and in every major city in Florida, allowing students to spend a semester outside of Tallahassee.

Robert S. Galen (born May 29, 1946) is a physician, Professor Emeritus Epidemiology and former Senior Associate Dean in the College of Public Health at The University of Georgia.University of Georgia Website Galen is also the former Chair of the Division of Public Health at UGA's Biomedical Health Science Institute and founder of the Global Health Program there. Galen matriculated in the 6-year medical program at Boston University School of Medicine, graduating in 1970. While in medical school Galen held an externship at Manned Spacecraft in Houston, Texas during the July 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing.

Kanter joined the tenure track faculty of Syracuse University College of Law in 1988, when she was appointed Director of Clinical Legal Education and director of the law school’s only civil clinic, the Public Interest Law Firm, which later became the Disability Rights Clinic. During her tenure as Director of Clinical Legal Education, Kanter started six new clinics, all of which continue today. She also founded and directed the Externship Program, which has been expanded to different cities. In recognition of the accomplishments of the Office of Clinical Legal Education, the College of Law received the Emil Gumbert Award for Advocacy Programs from the AALS in 1990.

With his mentor Laura North Rice, who had studied with Carl Rogers at the University of Chicago, he began doing psychotherapy process research, attempting to mathematically model therapist–client interactions and using techniques of task analysis. He was also influenced early in his career by Juan Pascual-Leone's neo-Piagetian constructivist model of mind. His first academic position was at the University of British Columbia in counseling psychology, and he completed an externship at the Mental Research Institute in California in 1981. Initially trained in a client-centered therapy approach, he then trained in Gestalt therapy and over the years was exposed to many other approaches including systemic-interactional, psychodynamic and cognitive therapy.

The Federal Government Externship has the following three specific components: # Field Placements: Students are required to work a minimum of 30 hours a week doing substantive legal work at a federal agency. Options include, amongst others, several sections of the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Communications Commission, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Homeland Security, # Seminar: Students conduct an in-depth analysis of the roles lawyers play in federal offices. Founded in 1969, Columbus Community Legal Services offers four legal clinics that offer students hands-on learning. The Columbus Community Legal Services clinics include the General Practice Clinic; the Families and the Law Clinic; Advocacy for the Elderly, and the Consumer Protection Clinic. In addition, the school offers the Criminal Prosecution Clinic, the Immigration Litigation Clinic, the Innocence Project Clinic and Clemency Project, the Virginia Criminal Defense Clinic, and an SEC Student Observer Program. The Columbus School of Law has an extensive legal externship program through which about 200 upperclass students per year earn course credits during the fall, spring, and summer by working in nonprofit organizations; federal, state, and local government agencies; Congress; and for judges, law firms, trade associations and corporations in the D.C. area.

Kanter also served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, during which time she introduced support for students with disabilities and a first year elective course program. In 2005, she stepped down as Director of Clinical Legal Education and Director of the Externship Program to co-direct the Center on Human Policy, Law and Disability Studies (now part of the Center on Disability and Inclusion) and to found and direct the Disability Law and Policy Program, which is now the most extensive disability law school program in the world. Kanter teaches Disability Law, International Human Rights and Comparative Disability Law, Advanced Disability Law and Policy, Legislation and Policy, and Special Education Law, among other courses. She holds a courtesy appointment at the Syracuse University School of Education.

The so-called "non-merger merger" combined the Radcliffe and Harvard admissions offices and ended the forced ceiling on female enrollment. In practice most of the energies of Radcliffe (which remained an autonomous institution) were then devoted to the institution's research initiatives and fellowships, rather than to female undergraduates. The Harvard and Radcliffe undergraduate communities and classes came to be known officially as "Harvard and Radcliffe" or "Harvard- Radcliffe", and female students continued to be awarded degrees signed by both presidents. Radcliffe continued to own its campus and provided financial aid, undergraduate prizes, and externship and fellowship opportunities to Radcliffe students, and the college continued to sponsor academic access programs for high school girls and continuing education opportunities for people outside the traditional college age.

Steven Schrage was born at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois while his father Dan Schrage was stationed in Europe overseeing MGR-1 Honest John nuclear weapons targeting Communist forces in Eastern Europe and Russia. Schrage’s father graduated from the United States Military Academy, where he was captain of a basketball team that included future U.S. Olympic coaches, point guard Mike Krzyzewski and coach Robert Knight, and later served as an Army Ranger and helicopter pilot in Vietnam. Schrage moved from Illinois in 1984 when his father became a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He is an honors graduate of North Springs High School, Duke University, and the University of Michigan Law School, where he was also selected to serve in an externship in the State Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser.

The skills training component of the Clinical Programme and Externship Programme provides students with the skills for a career in international law. At the beginning of the Clinical Programme, students are introduced to the field of law and the institution they will be working with in a series of introductory sessions, entailing reading and critical debate with fellow students and their academic supervisors. The students receive instruction in the law and procedure of the judicial institution for which they will carry out work. Throughout the Clinical Programme, a number of practitioners from the Hague-based international courts and tribunals will meet with the students each month to instruct them on practical skills pertaining to effective legal research, memorandum drafting, strategy, oral advocacy and legal ethics. The Skills Training Programme also focuses on evaluating and guiding the students’ learning and practical experiences.

The law school offered a traditional three-year full-time program, an accelerated two-and-a-half year program, and a five-year, part-time program toward the Juris Doctor degree, a Master of Laws degree program, and the following dual degree programs: JD/MBA, JD/MALS, JD/MA (Psychology), JD/Clinical Mental Health Counseling, JD/MA in Chinese Studies, JD/MA in Liberal Studies, JD/MS International Commerce & Policy, and JD/MS Sports Administration, and the S.J.D, the School's advanced research degree that was open to candidates who had completed an LL.M. The School of Law offered eight live legal clinics: criminal clinic, civil clinic, juvenile clinic, domestic violence clinic, mediation clinic, sports law clinic, tax clinic, and wrongful conviction clinic. The school also offered more than 85 discrete externship opportunities. In 2005, the School of Law started the nation's first sports law clinic, giving free advice to amateur status athletes during the Olympics.
