"I don't want people to let obstacles, or lack of time, stop them from online dating," said Erika Ettin, 36, founder of A Little Nudge in Washington, D.C. Ms. Ettin, an online dating coach with 15 to 20 clients, rewrites profiles, administers advice and swipes on behalf of singles.

"In every breakup, there are two elements that must be present in order to move forward — time and, eventually, someone else," said Ettin.

Ettin said it's vital to take time to work on yourself — see old friends, treat yourself well, and get back to your hobbies.

We talked to Dr. Bashan and Erika Ettin, an online dating coach and founder of A Little Nudge, for their tips on how to do it right.

Ettin told her client they needed to stop looking at their dating life as a failure, and to start giving themselves credit for the small steps of progress they had made.

The offer of a big cake or a little is common in British fairy tales of Celtic origin—The Red Ettin, The Girl and the Dead Man, The Adventures of Covan the Brown-haired, and The King Of Lochlin's Three Daughters—but this tale is unique in that the big cake is not claimed by the hero's older brothers, but by the hero himself. Even in Jack and his Comrades, where the hero is the only one offered it, he prefers the smaller cake and the blessing. The traditional bannocks (breads) of the Gaelic regions held a ritual role in the marking of the seasons.
