For example, Rilling (1977) demonstrated in a series of experiments that these "by-products" can occur after errorless learning, but that their effects may not be as large as in the conventional procedure; and Marsh and Johnson (1968) found that subjects given errorless training were very slow to make a discrimination reversal.

The errorless learning procedure is highly effective in reducing the number of responses to the S− during training. In Terrace's (1963) experiment, subjects trained with the conventional discrimination procedure averaged over 3000 S− (errors) responses during 28 sessions of training; whereas subjects trained with the errorless procedure averaged only 25 S− (errors) responses in the same number of sessions. Later, Terrace (1972) claimed not only that the errorless learning procedure improves long-term discrimination performance, but also that: 1) S− does not become aversive and so does not elicit "aggressive" behaviors, as it often does with conventional training; 2) S− does not develop inhibitory properties; 3) positive behavioral contrast to S+ does not occur. In other words, Terrace has claimed that the "by-products" of conventional discrimination learning do not occur with the errorless procedure.

In addition, he led the majors in lowest strikeout percentage (5.0%) for the season.2005 Season Fangraphs Polanco was a key player in the 2006 American League Division Series and 2006 American League Championship Series (ALCS) for the Tigers, being named Most Valuable Player of the ALCS. However, he did not record a single hit in the 2006 World Series, in which the Tigers lost to the Cardinals in five games. In 2007, Polanco set a new major- league record for second basemen by playing in his 144th consecutive errorless game on August 13, in a 7–2 loss to the Oakland Athletics. Curt Flood currently holds the record for consecutive errorless games with 226, but he played center field.
McEwing had a streak of 230 errorless games, which at one point was the longest such streak by an active major league outfielder.Phillies bolster bench by signing Doug Glanville By Don Bostrom, The Morning Call, January 13, 2004. Retrieved September 2nd, 2011 McEwing was often successful against Randy Johnson, so McEwing was nicknamed "Little Unit" (a reference to Johnson who was called "Big Unit").Johnson Is No Match For Mets' McEwing During Spring training just before the start of the season, he was traded to the New York Mets for Jesse Orosco.
In his debut game, he was held hitless by Ned Garver and Paul Foytack,1955-9-24 box score from retrosheet but in his second contest, he collected his only MLB hit in his eighth and final at bat, a single of Tiger southpaw Bob Miller in the top of the ninth inning.1955-9-25 box score from retrosheet He played errorless ball in the field, handling 11 chances. Pawloski played minor league baseball from 1949–1952 and 1954–1958, all in the Indians' system, and hit .
In 12 major league seasons Dalrymple played in 1,079 games, accumulating 710 hits in 3,042 at bats for a .233 batting average along with 55 home runs and 327 runs batted in. He led National League catchers in assists in 1963, 1965 and 1967, and set a league record with 99 consecutive errorless games (and 628 chances) during 1966 and 1967 (since broken). On July 19, 1960, Dalrymple broke up a no hit bid by Juan Marichal (in his major league debut) with two outs in the eighth inning.
He was signed by the Chicago White Sox who assigned him to their farm team in Hot Springs, Arkansas where he earned co-MVP honors in the Cotton States League. His minor league playing career saw him in Waterloo, Iowa, Gastonia, North Carolina, and Nashville, Tennessee playing for the local nines. He spent three years with the team in Dallas and set a Texas League fielding record of sixty-six errorless games at second base. In 1957, he was awarded the Rawlings Silver Glove trophy for best minor league second baseman.
The Society for the Quantitative Analyses of Behavior was founded in 1978 by Michael Lamport Commons and John Anthony Nevin. The first president was Richard J. Herrnstein. In the beginning it was called the Harvard Symposium on Quantitative Analysis of Behavior (HSQAB). This society meets once a year to discuss various topic in quantitative analysis of behavior including: behavioral economics, behavioral momentum, Connectionist systems or neural networks, hyperbolic discounting, foraging, errorless learning, learning and the Rescorla-Wagner model, matching law, Melioration, scalar expectancy, signal detection and stimulus control, connectionism or Neural Networks.
During his tenure with the Tigers, Boros was the subject of widespread coverage of his tendency to read history books and fine literature and of his aspiration to become a professor of literature. He finished his major league playing career with the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds from 1963 to 1965. In 1964, he set a Reds club record with 50 consecutive errorless games at third base. He played a total of 13 years in professional baseball, including stints with several minor league clubs from 1957 to 1969.
Cognitive Retention Therapy (CRT) also known as the Ashby Memory Method is a Cognitive therapy for dementia, based on the research of Dr. Mira Ashby. It is adapted from her programs for brain injury rehabilitation, for which she won the Order of Canada in 1984. CRT is a specifically tailored program to work for the damage done by Alzheimer's disease and other dementia. Combining word exercises, visual stimulation, a process called errorless learning, Stroop exercises and many other techniques from Dr. Ashby's research, CRT creates personalized activities based on participant’s interests to stimulate all 5 senses.
Discrete trial training (DTT) is a process whereby an activity is divided into smaller distinct sub-tasks and each of these is repeated continuously until a person is proficient. The trainer rewards successful completion and uses errorless correction procedures if there is unsuccessful completion by the subject to condition them into mastering the process. When proficiency is gained in each sub-task, they are re-combined into the whole activity: in this way proficiency at complex activities can be taught. DTT is carried out in a one-on-one therapist to student ratio at the table.
On the first day of June, the Yankees set a Major League record with 18 consecutive errorless games. Late in the month, the Yankees struggled in interleague play, losing two of three to the Nationals and Marlins, falling to five games back in the division. When the Yankees lost the first game of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, Yankee GM Brian Cashman flew down to Atlanta to motivate the team in a closed-door meeting. Initially, his words seemed to do little, as in the next game (6/24), the Yankees were being no-hit through six innings.
In 1965, Flood had his greatest power output with 11 home runs and 83 runs batted in while he was hitting .310. He made the All-Star team again in 1966, a season in which he did not commit a single error in the outfield; his record errorless streak of 226 games (NL record for an outfielder) and 568 total chances (major league record) ran from September 3, 1965, to June 4, 1967. In 1967 he had his highest batting mark with a .335 average (though his other batting totals fell off from previous years), helping the Cardinals to another championship.
Response Prompting Procedures are systematic strategies used to increase the probability of correct responding and opportunities for positive reinforcement for learners by providing and then systematically removing prompts. Response prompting is sometimes called errorless learning because teaching using these procedures usually results in few errors by the learner. The goal of response prompting is to transfer stimulus control from the prompt to the desired discriminative stimulus. Several response prompting procedures are commonly used in special education research: (a) system of least prompts, (b) most to least prompting, (c) progressive and constant time delay, and (d) simultaneous prompting.
Rosar had one of his best seasons in the major leagues with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1946, hitting for a .283 batting average and posted career-highs with 120 hits and 48 runs batted in. He led American League catchers in assists, runners caught stealing, and fielding percentage, setting a record for errorless games by a catcher, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage in 117 games played as a catcher. The next year he extended his perfect play to 147 games and, was selected to be the starting catcher for the American League in the 1947 All-Star Game.
Errorless learning was an instructional design introduced by psychologist Charles Ferster in the 1950s as part of his studies on what would make the most effective learning environment. B. F. Skinner was also influential in developing the technique, noting that, > ...errors are not necessary for learning to occur. Errors are not a function > of learning or vice versa nor are they blamed on the learner. Errors are a > function of poor analysis of behavior, a poorly designed shaping program, > moving too fast from step to step in the program, and the lack of the > prerequisite behavior necessary for success in the program.
His estranged daughter Pella comes to live with him during Henry's junior year, after leaving her architect husband and life in San Francisco. Much of the novel focuses around members of the Westish baseball team, during their best season in the history of the college. As Henry approaches the NCAA record for most consecutive errorless games by a shortstop (held by his baseball hero, Aparicio Rodriguez), a throw of his goes awry and hits his roommate, right fielder Owen Dunne, who is sitting in the dugout at the time. Owen is hospitalized by the injury, an incident which shakes Henry's confidence deeply.
The identity of Atman and Brahman, and their unchanging, eternal nature, are basic doctrines in Advaita Vedānta. The school considers the knowledge claims in the Vedas to be the crucial part of the Vedas, not its karma-kanda (ritual injunctions). The knowledge claims about self being identical to the nature of Atman and Brahman are found in the Upanishads, which Advaita Vedānta has regarded as "errorless revealed truth." Nevertheless, states Koller, Advaita Vedantins did not entirely rely on revelation, but critically examined their teachings using reason and experience, and this led them to investigate and critique competing theories.
On June 17, 1993, while playing for the San Francisco Giants, Lewis set a major league record by playing his 243rd consecutive errorless game, the longest stretch ever by an outfielder to begin a career. On July 16, 1993 against the New York Mets, he broke Don Demeter's all-time MLB record by playing his 267th consecutive game without an error. The streak continued until June 30, 1994, when the Giants played the Montreal Expos. Lewis was charged with his first error in 392 Major League games (938 chances) when he allowed Cliff Floyd's base hit to skip under his glove.
The Giants lost the Series in seven games. However, Davenport was known for his fielding, leading National League third basemen in fielding percentage each season from 1959–1961 and winning a Gold Glove at third base in 1962. Davenport played 97 consecutive errorless games at third base from July 26, 1966 to April 28, 1968, a record that stood until it was broken by John Wehner in the 1990s. He had a career batting average of .258 with 77 home runs and 456 RBIs, with 1,142 career hits, also including 177 doubles and 37 triples, in 4,427 at bats.
In his debut game on April 15, 1952, Hardin pinch hit for second baseman Bob Ramazzotti in the fourth inning of a game against the Cincinnati Reds at Crosley Field, then stayed in the game at second base, going hitless in four at bats but playing errorless ball in the field as the Cubs won, 6–5. His next appearance came a week later against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field. He entered the game, a one-sided Chicago victory, in the fifth inning in relief of starting shortstop Leon Brinkopf. The following inning, Hardin collected his only Major League hit, a single off the Pirates' Jim Suchecki.
As a catcher Berra was outstanding: quick, mobile, and a great handler of pitchers, Berra led all American League catchers eight times in games caught and in chances accepted, six times in double plays (a major- league record), eight times in putouts, three times in assists, and once in fielding percentage. Berra left the game with the AL records for catcher putouts (8,723) and chances accepted (9,520). He was also one of only four catchers ever to field 1.000 in a season, playing 88 errorless games in 1958. He was the first catcher to leave one finger outside his glove, a style that most other catchers eventually emulated.
Kevin Boles graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School (Sarasota, Florida) and the University of South Florida, where he received a bachelor's degree in communications. A catcher, he was selected in the 42nd round of the June 1998 amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs and played one season of professional baseball, appearing in 20 games (11 in the field) for the 1998 Williamsport Cubs of the Short Season-A New York–Penn League. Boles collected seven hits in 34 at bats, with one double and three runs batted in, for a batting average of .206. He played errorless ball in the field, but allowed six stolen bases in as many attempts.
Known for his ability to get on base, while he was still a minor leaguer, Youkilis was nicknamed Euclis: The Greek God of Walks in the best-selling book, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. A Gold Glove Award-winning first baseman, he once held baseball's record for most consecutive errorless games at first base (later broken by Casey Kotchman). He is also a three-time MLB All-Star, two-time World Series Champion, and winner of the 2008 Hank Aaron Award. An intense performer on the playing field, Youkilis was known for his scrappiness, grittiness, dirt-stained jerseys, home-plate collisions, and his strange batting stance.
Lovaas also described how to use social (secondary) reinforcers, teach children to imitate, and what interventions (including electric shocks) may be used to reduce aggression and life-threatening self-injury. In 1987, Lovaas published the study, "Behavioral treatment and normal educational and intellectual functioning in young autistic children". The experimental group in this study received up to 40 hours per week in a 1:1 teaching setting at a table using errorless discrete trial training (DTT). The treatment is done at home with parents involved in every aspect of treatment, and the curriculum is highly individualized with a heavy emphasis on teaching eye contact, fine and gross motor imitation, and language.
Hartley did not work out exactly how the number M should depend on the noise statistics of the channel, or how the communication could be made reliable even when individual symbol pulses could not be reliably distinguished to M levels; with Gaussian noise statistics, system designers had to choose a very conservative value of M to achieve a low error rate. The concept of an error-free capacity awaited Claude Shannon, who built on Hartley's observations about a logarithmic measure of information and Nyquist's observations about the effect of bandwidth limitations. Hartley's rate result can be viewed as the capacity of an errorless M-ary channel of 2B symbols per second. Some authors refer to it as a capacity.
As manager, Matheny's teams won one National League (NL) pennant and three NL Central division titles. From Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Matheny was selected by the Brewers in the eighth round of the 1991 MLB draft from the University of Michigan (UM). He made his MLB debut as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers on April 7, 1994. Matheny established major league records among catchers for consecutive games played without committing an error (252), and consecutive chances fielded without an error (1,565). He is one of three catchers in major league history with an errorless season of at least 100 games, and in 2005, set a Giants single-season team record for catcher's fielding percentage at .999.
Samcoff made his MLB debut on April 21, 1951 as a pinch hitter at Fenway Park against Chuck Stobbs of the Boston Red Sox; he batted for Philadelphia pitcher Bob Hooper and grounded out, Stobbs to first baseman Billy Goodman.1951-4-21 box score from Retrosheet He then started three consecutive games for the Athletics at second base from April 24–26. Samcoff went hitless in ten at bats with one base on balls, but played errorless ball in the field, handling ten chances and turning three double plays. He spent the remainder of the 1951 campaign in the minor leagues, with the Double-A Memphis Chicks of the Southern Association.
In the 1986 American League Championship Series, he hit .429 as the Red Sox, one scant strike away from elimination in Game 5, came back (starting with Henderson's go-ahead homer against closer Donnie Moore) and upended the California Angels 4 games to 3. In the 1986 World Series, he hit .300 in a Boston loss to the New York Mets 4 games to 3 after having the Mets down to their last strike twice in extra innings of Game 6. On December 8, 1988, the Red Sox traded him to the Montreal Expos for pitcher John Dopson and shortstop Luís Rivera. In 1990, he set a National League record with 63 consecutive errorless games at shortstop.
In 1968, Baer, Bijou, Risley, Birnbrauer, Wolf, and James Sherman joined the Department of Human Development and Family Life at the University of Kansas, where they founded the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Notable graduate students from the University of Washington include Robert Wahler, James Sherman, and Ivar Lovaas. Lovaas established the UCLA Young Autism Project while teaching at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1965, Lovaas published a series of articles that outlined his system for coding observed behaviors, described a pioneering investigation of the antecedents and consequences that maintained a problem behavior, and relied upon the methods of errorless learning that was initially devised by Charles Ferster to teach nonverbal children to speak.
Although it was intended for Demeter to remain in the outfield, Demeter was asked to again take his duties to the infield at first base. In May, he sat out several games after suffering a minor case of whiplash in the neck and shoulder after he slid head-first into third base. Demeter played at first for almost every game for two months before returning to the outfield full-time in July to resume his record errorless streak, only for it to abruptly come to an end at 266 games on July 15 in an exponentially improbable fashion. A dog ran onto the field as Demeter fielded a ball hit to him.
The second test, a 36–22 win on 18 June 2016, was both Smith and Dagg's 50th test, with both players scoring tries. Smith was errorless in the second test with the exception of letting in Welsh lock Alun Wyn Jones in for a try, but did not win Man of the Match for the second week in a row, conceding the award to Dagg. Smith scored the opening try of the third test on 25 June 2016 and finished the series without being subbed off from the field, with the All Blacks thrashing Wales 46–6 to end the series. Smith was moved back for fullback for the second round of the 2016 Rugby Championship with Dagg as the right wing.
Curtis Brown (born September 14, 1945) is an American former professional baseball player. Although his professional career lasted for 16 seasons (1965–1978 and 1980–1981, including Mexican League service), he played only one game of Major League Baseball as the starting left fielder for the Montreal Expos on May 27, 1973. Facing the San Francisco Giants' Ron Bryant at Candlestick Park, Brown went hitless in four at bats and played errorless ball in the field, recording two putouts, as the Giants won, 6–3.1973-5-27 box score from Retrosheet Brown then spent the rest of the season, and his career, in minor league baseball at the Triple-A level. Brown threw and batted right- handed; he stood tall and weighed .
Third baseman Mike Lowell rediscovered his offense after a difficult season in Florida, and together with shortstop Álex González, second baseman Mark Loretta, and new first baseman Kevin Youkilis, the Red Sox had one of the best-fielding infields in Major League Baseball. On June 30, Boston set a major league record of 17 straight errorless games. This streak helped the Red Sox commit the fewest errors in the American League in 2006. During this span, they also recorded 12 consecutive victories, all in interleague play. The winning streak was the third longest in club history, behind only the 15 wins posted by the 1946 club and 13 victories in 1948. The Red Sox were well represented in the 2006 All- Star Game.
He started at shortstop in the second game of a doubleheader for the World Series-bound Cardinals after they had clinched the league pennant with a victory in the opening game of that day's twin bill. Cross collected one hit in four at bats against the Cubs' Claude Passeau and played errorless ball in the field, as St. Louis won, 4–1, to increase the Redbirds' final margin to two full games ahead of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He then served in the United States Navy during World War II, missing three baseball seasons (1943–1945). Cross then spent all of the and campaigns on the Cardinals' roster, appearing in an even 100 games as a utility infielder, starting 14 games at shortstop, eight at second base, and four at third base.
He would remain with the White Sox for the remainder of the season, playing ten errorless games in the outfield, and hitting .263 over 19 games with two RBI, and the lone home run. Abbott remained with the big club for the 1998 season, as the team's 4th outfielder. Abbott posted fairly respectable numbers averaging .279 with 12 home runs to with 41 RBI in 89 games that season, but his defense declined, as he committed four errors, for a rather poor .971 fielding average. Abbott began the 1999 campaign again with the White Sox, but following a poor first month (.158 avg. 2 HRs and only six RBI) he was demoted to the AAA Charlotte Knights of the International League where he regained his form with the bat to hit .
Monaco appeared in only 17 games in the Major Leagues, and collected two hits in 13 at bats, with one extra-base hit, a triple, and two runs batted in. His two hits and lone RBI came in his big league debut on August 18, 1937, at Sportsman's Park against the St. Louis Browns. In that game, Monaco pinch hit for starting second baseman John Kroner and went two- for-two and played errorless ball in the field, in an 11–6 Cleveland defeat.1937-8-18 (2) box score from Retrosheet He would go hitless in his remaining 11 MLB at bats (five in 1937 and six in 1946), starting his only game as a second baseman four days after his debut, and going 0-for-4 against Vern Kennedy of the Chicago White Sox.
The American League leader is Frank Lary, who made 32 putouts for the Detroit Tigers in 1961. Kaat is the leader in assists; he made 72 with the Minnesota Twins in 1962. The National League leader, Maddux, trails him by one (71 assists in 1996). Many pitchers have posted errorless seasons and 1.000 fielding percentages in their winning seasons; Mussina is the leader with four perfect seasons in the field. Ron Guidry (1982-1984) and Mussina (1996-1998) both accomplished the feat in three consecutive seasons. The most double plays turned by a winning pitcher is nine, accomplished by Maddux in 2006. Four pitchers have also thrown no wild pitches in a winning season: Maddux (1997, 2006), Kaat (1975), Shantz (1961, 1962), and Kenny Rogers (2005). In contrast, the most wild pitches in a winning season is 18, by the knuckleballing Niekro.
In the eighth frame, his single off Dick Donovan set up Maury Wills' insurance run, as the Nationals ultimately won 3–1. Davenport played errorless ball in the field over the game's last four innings. That same season, Davenport was critical to the Giants' winning their first pennant since moving to San Francisco five years before. After going four for nine (.444) in the first two games of the 1962 National League tie-breaker series against the Dodgers, including a home run off Sandy Koufax in Game 1, Davenport drew a bases-loaded walk off Stan Williams in the ninth inning of the decisive Game 3 to get credit for the game-winning RBI in the Giants' eventual 6–4 victory, which gained them their first NL title since 1954, when they played in New York City.
He draw a base on balls off Mike Garcia in his only plate appearance and played errorless ball in the field as the Senior Circuit won, 5–1.Retrosheet box score: 1953 MLB All-Star Game Then, in , Williams played in a career-high 142 games, starting all but one of them as the Giants' second baseman. His batting average fell to .222, but the Giants captured the National League pennant. In the 1954 World Series that followed, Williams started all four games of the Fall Classic. He went hitless in 11 at bats with a run batted in and handled 20 chances with one error, as the Giants swept away the Cleveland Indians to become world champions. However, 1954 was his last full season as a player. On April 23, 1955, Williams severely injured his back in an on-field collision with Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers — the result of a brushback battle between the two bitter rivals.
Dave Robinson graduated from La Jolla High School and San Diego State University. He was chosen in the seventh round of the 1968 Major League Baseball draft by his hometown Padres, one year before they began play in the National League. In his second pro campaign, 1970, Robinson batted .256 with 114 hits for the Salt Lake City Bees of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.Minor league statistics from Baseball Reference He then was recalled by the Padres after the September 1 roster expansion. On September 10, 1970, he played his first MLB game as a defensive replacement for Padre left fielder Al Ferrara; he played two errorless innings in the field, but did not come to bat. Two days later, on September 12, he started in left field against the pennant-bound Cincinnati Reds at San Diego Stadium. Facing veteran Reds' starting pitcher Tony Cloninger, Robinson received a base on balls in his first Major League plate appearance.
Murphy and Kirby Puckett each won six American League awards; there have been eight 5-time winners and nine 4-time winners as well. Darin Erstad won a Gold Glove as a first baseman in 2004 after winning two awards in the outfield (2000, 2002), making him the only player to win the award as an infielder and an outfielder. Fifteen outfielders have posted errorless Gold Glove-winning seasons: twelve in the American League and three in the National League. The only players to accomplish the feat twice were Mickey Stanley, who posted a 1.000 fielding percentage in 1968 and 1970, and Nick Markakis, who posted a 1.000 FPct in 2011 and 2014. Other outfielders who have played complete seasons without an error include Flood (1966), Clemente (1972), Yastrzemski (1977), Hunter (2008), Ken Berry (1972), Bernie Williams (2000), Vernon Wells (2005), Franklin Gutiérrez (2010), Jacoby Ellsbury (2011), Andre Ethier (2011), and Joe Rudi, who played only 44 games in the outfield in 1975 while appearing in 91 games at first base.
Hall of Famers who have won as catchers include Bench, Rodriguez, Carlton Fisk, and Gary Carter. The other family pair to win Gold Gloves as catchers are brothers Bengie and Yadier Molina, who have won eleven awards between them . Yadier Molina set the record for putouts among winning catchers in 2016; he put out 1,113 batters for the St. Louis Cardinals that season. In the American League, the leader is Dan Wilson, with 1,051 putouts in 1997 though he did not win the Gold Glove Award for it. Among Gold Glove winners, the most A.L. putouts was in 2012, when Matt Wieters had 994. Assist leaders include Carter (108 in 1980) in the National League and the major leagues and Sundberg (103 in 1977) in the American League. No Gold Glove-winning catchers had posted errorless seasons until Johnson (1997) and Matheny (2003) each accomplished the feat in the National League within six years; their fielding percentages in those seasons were 1.000, and Matheny posted two other winning seasons with only one error and a .
After hitting .326 with 14 RBI in his first month, he was named the National League Rookie of the Month for April. In his first full major league season, Barney batted .276/.313/.353 and placed seventh in National League Rookie Of The Year voting. In 2012, Barney won a Fielding Bible Award as the best fielding second baseman in MLB. Barney was also awarded the 2012 Gold Glove award for his play at second base, the first by a Cub second baseman since Ryne Sandberg's nine-year run from 1983 to 1991. During the season, he recorded only 2 errors at second base, and tied the MLB record for consecutive errorless games at second base with 141 games. For the year, he finished with a career best 4.6 WAR, including a 3.6 dWAR (defensive wins above replacement) while registering career highs in doubles (26), home runs (7) and RBI (44) Barney started 2013 on the disabled list, bouncing back from the brief set back to play 141 games in 2013, batting .
