The next day, the affair is uncovered: Drouet discovers he has been cuckolded, Carrie learns that Hurstwood is married, and Hurstwood's wife Julia learns from acquaintances that Hurstwood has been out driving with another woman and deliberately excluded her from the Elks theatre night. After a night of drinking, and despairing at his wife's financial demands and Carrie's rejection, Hurstwood stumbles upon a large amount of cash in the unlocked safe in Fitzgerald and Moy's offices. In a moment of poor judgment, he succumbs to the temptation to embezzle a large sum of money. Inventing a false pretext of Drouet's sudden illness, he lures Carrie onto a train and escapes with her to Canada.
Obsessive and temperamental bank manager Vijay Singh Rajput (Amitabh Bachchan) loses his job for badly beating up a bank clerk who tried to embezzle money. Angered at losing his job he plots revenge on the bank by intending to stage a heist. He employs three blind men – Vishwas (Akshay Kumar), a blind person who has the power of the sixth sense, Elias (Paresh Rawal) and Arjun (Arjun Rampal) — when, after passing by school for the blind, he understands that blind people can be trained to do things like sighted people. He blackmails and enlists the help of Neha (Sushmita Sen) who is a teacher at the school to train the trio to do the seemingly impossible heist.
When Lerma fell from power in 1618, his status as cardinal (which he had acquired for exactly this purpose 6 months earlier) gave him immunity from prosecution by his numerous enemies, who instead turned on Lerma's trusted and unscrupulous secretary, Rodrigo Calderón (d. 1621), who as Lerma's agent was made a scapegoat. Calderón was tortured and executed on trumped up charges of witchcraft and other crimes, which demonstrated what would likely have been Lerma's fate, if a cardinal's hat hadn't protected his head. Lerma was also responsible for the appointment of Don Pedro Franqueza to reform royal finances, but who instead managed to embezzle enough funds to purchase the title of Count of Villalonga.
Both of them have held important positions in the government, positions that allow them to forge strategic networks and relations (both national and international) should they decide to run for presidency. President Biya’s strategy is to allow those close to him to embezzle and later on use it against them when he feels they become a threat. This further reinforces the idea that there is no real/genuine will to combat corruption. In addition, it is an opportunity for Biya’s regime to create an illusion of democracy and transparency as it has done in the past, more recently with the blatant use of sham Transparency International observers during the presidential elections of October 2018.
In a small town of the Russian Empire during the 19th century reign mores typical of that time. The mayor and the other officials take bribes, embezzle public money, drink and play cards, while idly discussing the latest town gossip. But soon alarming news arrives – a stern government inspector from St. Petersburg has been sent to the city, and even worse, a plain-clothed one! Exactly at the time when the privy council is taking place which the mayor hurriedly organizes along with other rulers of the city, the news comes that Ivan Aleksandrovich Khlestakov is residing at a hotel – a young man who is not paying the bills and behaves very suspiciously.
The scandal involved a massive embezzlement scheme involving a director of the WCEDA, a Washington-area developer, and numerous other local government officials and their associates. According to the allegations, the developer falsely promised to build a data center and retail complex that would attract 600 jobs and fund other development within the county. The project never materialized, but was instead used as a vehicle to embezzle $21 million in funds. The fraud scheme was uncovered by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Culpeper Field Office, which launched a probe in 2018 into the business practices of the EDA in conjunction with the Front Royal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The rivalry between the two groups was intense but mostly restrained, as their fortunes shifted repeatedly, but torture and the forced confiscation of a deposed official's possessions were commonplace under the old-established system known as muṣādara or muṭālaba, which forced deposed officials to return the money they had embezzled; in effect, however, it practically forced officials to embezzle while on office so as to be able to provide the requisite sums during the muṣādara inquest. Ahmad continued to serve as head of the fiscal departments in the caliphate of al-Muktafi (), despite the hostility of al- Muktafi's vizier, al-Qasim ibn Ubayd Allah. Before the latter could move against Ahmad, the latter died in 904.

United States v. Tiller, 142 F.Supp.2d 638, 644–647, (E.D.Pa, 2001) The Third Circuit relied on Schmuck to determine that a scheme to embezzle fuel tax payments by using a long series of wire transfers not only supported the fraud conviction but, by extension, one for money laundering.United States v. Morelli, 169 F.3d 798, 804–808 (3rd Cir., 1998) In a Colorado case, a distinction argued by defendants resulted in the judge relying on a more expansive reading of Schmuck to deny their motion to dismiss the indictment. The government had alleged that, as part of a mortgage fraud scheme, the deeds and deeds of trust mailed to the lenders by the county recorder's office constituted mail fraud.
In 1617, the regency government of Maria de' Medici fell and its leading figures, her favorites Concino Concini and Leonora Dori, was ousted from power by help of Charles d'Albert, duc de Luynes. de Luynes also took upon himself to adjust the organisation of the royal household and replaced all the Spanish ladies- in-waiting of Anne with French ones: the process was completed in Winter of 1618-1619, when all that remained of Anne's Spanish retinue was her Spanish confessor and one chamber woman. It was discovered in connection to this that Inés de la Torre had used her position to embezzle huge sums of money intended for the expenses of the queen's household.Akkerman , Nadine; Houben, Birgit, eds. Emperor Wuzong made him the military governor of Huainan, carrying the Tong Zhongshu Menxia Pingzhangshi title as an honorary title. In 845, Li Shen accused one of his subordinates, the magistrate of Jiangdu (江都, in modern Yangzhou), Wu Xiang (), whose uncle Wu Wuling () had long had an adversarial relationship with Li Deyu, of embezzlement and forcibly marrying the daughter of a commoner, Yan Yue (). Many advisory officials pointed out that the evidence against Wu Xiang was weak, and Emperor Wuzong sent the censors Cui Yuanzao () and Li Chou () to review the case. Cui and Li Chou reported that Wu Xiang did embezzle funds, but that his father-in-law Yan was not a commoner, nor was the marriage forced.
The Floorwalker The Floorwalker is a 1916 American silent comedy film, Charlie Chaplin's first Mutual Film Corporation film. The film stars Chaplin, in his traditional Tramp persona, as a customer who creates chaos in a department store and becomes inadvertently entangled in the nefarious scheme of the store manager, played by Eric Campbell, and the store's floorwalker, played by Lloyd Bacon, to embezzle money from the establishment.Simon Louvish (2009) Chaplin: The Tramp's Odyssey. London, Faber and Faber: 105 The film is noted for the first "running staircase" used in films which is used for a series of slapstick that climaxes with a frantic chase down an upward escalator and finding they are remaining in the same position on the steps no matter how fast they move.
Renison would run it for only a few years; while editing it he was studying law, and in 1894, after passing the bar, he announced that he was moving to Salinas, California, where he established a law practice, served several terms as mayor and was elected to state assembly. By 1893, the Gonzales Tribune had become the largest newspaper in the county, a title it would only hold for a short time. For some time it was edited by H. R. Farley. Around Halloween of 1898, Farley began to write a series of articles in the paper attacking the current Monterey County Sheriff, who had been accused of using names on local tombstones to embezzle county funds intended to feed and clothe prisoners.
Soon, however, Ali began to abuse his power and embezzle large sums from the treasury, which led to his dismissal and arrest on 21 July 912. He was replaced by Muhammad ibn Ubayd Allah al-Khaqani. He was re-appointed to the vizierate on 3 June 917, succeeding his old rival Ali ibn Isa, but his second tenure was troubled by the rebellion of Yusuf, who had begun withholding the tribute to Baghdad and has seized a number of Samanid-ruled provinces in north-western Iran. Ali tried to intercede on Yusuf's behalf, but to no avail: he was dismissed in November 918, and Yusuf was defeated and taken prisoner to Baghdad by the Abbasid commander-in-chief, Mu'nis al-Muzaffar, in 919.
Early in July 1581, he and Godsalf, who had come to England in June 1577, were arrested in Warwickshire whilst staying on the estate of Lady Petre (widow of William Petre), through the efforts of the informer George "Judas" Eliot (a criminal, murderer, rapist and thief, who made a career out of denouncing Catholics and priests for bounty). After being examined by Walsingham at Greenwich, they were committed to the Tower of London on 14 July. Godsalf did not give in but spent several years in prison, after which he was released from the Marshalsea in September 1585 and banished, dying in Paris in 1592. Eliot had insinuated himself into a position in the Petre household where he then proceeded to embezzle sums of money.
Wedding planner scams prey on the vulnerability of young couples, during a time when they are most distracted and trusting, to embezzle funds for the planner's personal use. In the first type of fraud, the wedding planner company may offer a free wedding in a tie-up with a media station for a couple in need of charity, and collect the donations from the public that were meant for the wedding. In a second type of fraud, the planner asks couples to write checks to vendors (tents, food, cakes) but leave the name field empty, which the planner promises to fill in. As most vendors were never hired nor paid, the scam would then be exposed on the day of the wedding.
Next, in July 2006 O'Malley co-chaired the trial of Roger Duronio, who was convicted of securities and computer fraud after a six-week trial. Duronio was a disgruntled mid-level computer administrator for UBS, who released a "logic bomb" upon the bank's system and cause catastrophic damage to the company. Resuming his focus upon union related corruption, O'Malley successfully convicted the entire executive board of Local 1588 of the International Longshoremen's Association, including organized crime associate Joseph Lore, of conspiracy to embezzle and the embezzlement of union funds. Next, O'Malley tried and convicted Joseph Nardone Sr. and Joseph Nardone Jr., the former and current presidents of Local 148 of the Novelty Production Workers Union, and others, for embezzling almost a million dollars through phony construction projects.
Devon suspects the criminals will embezzle millions from the company and steal their technology (only to sell it to others for large profit). Michael sets off from FLAG headquarters and begins his investigation, but is astounded and shocked when the car's computer speaks back to him for the first time and introduces itself as the "Knight Industries Two Thousand" (KITT). Michael is at first dismissive of KITT and refuses to interact with him at first, but the two eventually begin to bond - firstly when Michael falls asleep at the wheel and is pursued by a pair of deputy sheriffs, and KITT suggests a means of escaping prosecution. Meanwhile, as a comic relief, two bumbling car thieves try every means available to steal KITT, but to no avail.

But there's a snag: Moira's mother, the Duchess, says on the phone that she doesn't have enough ready cash to pay for the wedding, so she asks Moira to pay for it from her trust fund. Only, Moira has already induced her banker, Winslow, to embezzle the funds, and blown her inheritance on several zany investment schemes. She quickly comes up with a new plan: convince Gilbert's stepfather, Tony Cellini, to pay for the wedding, with the "promise" that the Duchess will reimburse Moira for what "she" has spent from her trust fund—in effect, doubling the couple's take from the wedding. Over lunch with Gilbert's perky but extremely naive mother, Maddie, Phillip becomes nervous at hearing about Tony's mysterious comings- and-goings and the surprisingly high number of "accidental" deaths in his family.
When Hoke assumed the presidency, she found the union was more than $400,000 in debt. Frank Chu (born March 24, 1960) is an eccentric from San Francisco. Since 1999 or earlier, Chu has been campaigning to impeach an array of former U.S. Presidents he considers guilty of collaborating with a nefarious network of alien populations called the "12 Galaxies" to film him against his will, to broadcast this footage intergalactically, and to embezzle the royalties he is owed as a television and movie star. Chu lives in Oakland, and commutes daily to San Francisco and nearby locales in order to reach the largest audience of passers-by and television news crews for his street protests about this labor dispute. He produces a new sign weekly through Signographics in San Francisco and supports himself through sign sponsorships and small donations from his supporters and with help from his family.
Apart from being seen as inferior, African-Americans (as well as many other minorities) were seen as utter savages and because of this most Americans believed that they lacked the inability to distinguish between things that would be considered legal or illegal. One blaxploitation film that accentuates this barbarian belief is Spike Lee's Bamboozled. An important event in this film which occurs fairly on in the films runtime is when Mr. Pickens robbed the bank and flees with the stolen money. He then chooses to embezzle that money which he had just stolen, which logically makes no sense at all, but if this event is thought of symbolically it could represent the ideals and thoughts of the culture of that time, which held that whites were notoriously corrupt individuals.
A 2004 investigation by Chicago Tribune reporter and former IICD student Monica Eng connected Gaia, which was not mentioned in either the FBI or Danish police reports, to Tvind through its financial records. In a 1998 report to Danish authorities, former Tvind leader Steen Thomsen said that the various charities linked to the group artificially inflate the value of the used clothing they collect by buying and selling it among themselves at "symbolic prices" (known as transfer pricing) before selling the clothes to the public. Thomsen says that he left Tvind in 1998 because he was required to help embezzle money for the Teachers Group and Petersen. He says that Petersen's personal physician, Marianne Thomsen (no relation) would conduct checkups on members of the Teachers Group as a way of monitoring their activities for Petersen.
In an 18-minute videotape recorded prior to his death he said that President Álvaro Colom wanted him dead and would be responsible should he be murdered: "If you are watching this message, it is because I was assassinated by President Álvaro Colom, with help from Colom's private secretary Gustavo Alejos." Rosenberg claimed his death would be due to his involvement with two clients: Khalil Musa, a prominent businessman, and Musa's daughter, Marjorie, who were both assassinated in April 2009. Khalil Musa had been nominated by members of President Colom's government to serve on the board of Guatemala's Banrural (Rural Development) bank. Rosenberg claimed the President, Sandra de Colom (the First Lady of Guatemala), members of the Colom Administration, and their business associates were using Banrural to embezzle and launder money, and because Musa would not tolerate this corruption he was assassinated.
" In the September 1992 edition of Dragon (Issue 185), Allen Varney found Cyberpunk 2020 just as stylish as its first-edition predecessor, but he found even more typos in this edition than in the first edition. Varney liked the new streamlined combat system, but criticized the duality of modern combat, where "Unarmored characters become pools of blood in 10 seconds of combat, but those in flak armor can shrug off submachine-gun fire." Varney also felt that the Netrunning system was much improved, calling the rules system "elegant and original." Varney thought the second edition's biggest flaw was lack of an index, but he also criticized the dichotomy of a system where "you can break into Eurobank and embezzle five million bucks, but you better pay your phone bill on time or you’re in big trouble.
In 845, Li Shen, then the military governor of Huainan, accused one of his subordinates, the magistrate of Jiangdu (江都, in modern Yangzhou), Wu Xiang (), whose uncle Wu Wuling () had long had an adversarial relationship with Li Deyu, of embezzlement and forcibly marrying the daughter of a commoner, Yan Yue (). Cui and Li Chou reported that Wu Xiang did embezzle funds, but that his father-in-law Yan was not a commoner, nor was the marriage forced. He later comments he could "re-tile the roof" with Del's 'slates'). Among the goods he bought from Del were a hairdryer that was actually a paint stripper (leaving Mike with severe burns to the head), a deep fryer (which soon exploded) and a faulty fax machine. On the other hand, he was quite happy to con people out of their money when he could, evidenced by one occasion where he sold Denzil a plate of beef stew for £1, then sold exactly the same thing to a yuppie for £2.50, instead calling it "Boeuf Bourguignon." When Kenneth MacDonald died in 2001, writer John Sullivan added a storyline to new episode "If They Could See Us Now", which explained that Mike had been caught up in Del and Rodney's shady financial dealings and attempted to embezzle the brewery in order to cover his losses, for which he was imprisoned.
A child of the colonies, Avon possesses genius-level intelligence, and is an aloof and sardonic computer expert found guilty of an attempt to embezzle five hundred million credits from the Terran Federation banking system. First seen in the second episode, "Space Fall", as a prisoner aboard the London, a cargo vessel transporting a group of convicted criminals to the penal colony on the planet Cygnus Alpha, he assists Blake in his attempted mutiny on the journey, using his skills to take over the ship's computer. He subsequently boards the Liberator along with Blake and Jenna, and becomes a member of the original "seven". Avon acts self-serving but in reality, when it comes to actions, he is more selfless than any of the others, constantly saving the lives of almost everyone he comes across and including the entire crew several times over, with nothing to gain for himself.

Regarding Russia's hosting of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Kasparov explained in August 2013 that he had opposed Russia's bid from the outset, since it would "allow Vladimir Putin's cronies to embezzle hundreds of millions of dollars" and "lend prestige to Putin's authoritarian regime". Kasparov did not support the proposed Sochi Olympics boycott--writing that it would "unfairly punish athletes"--but called for athletes and others to "transform Putin's self-congratulatory pet project into a spotlight that exposes his authoritarian rule" to the world. In September, Kasparov called upon politicians should refuse to attend the games and the public to pressure sponsors and the media, such that Coca-Cola, for example, could put "a rainbow flag on each Coca-Cola can" and NBC could "do interviews with Russian gay activists or with Russian political activists". Kasparov also emphasized that although he was "still a Russian citizen", he had "good reason to be concerned about my ability to leave Russia if I returned to Moscow".
The VA declared in early February that it would punish Rubens and Graves without demoting either. "Rubens and Graves clearly should have been fired" observed Miller, who went on to iterate a complete lack of confidence in the VA's transparency and integrity. In November 2015, it was learned that Rubens had received a bonus of over $8,000 in 2014 while under investigation for abusing her authority to embezzle public funds. The VA stated it lacked the authority to recover upwards of $400,000 from Rubens and Graves. Military veterans expressed outrage at Rubens’ actions and at the VA’s refusal to fire her, to recoup the embezzled public funds, or to take meaningful actions to reprimand its employees that had broken the law. The American Legion expressed a similar dissatisfaction with the VA’s lack of discipline and, noting their retention of ample salaries, called the scandal an “insult and a disgrace to all veterans”.
He calls his friend, Tiny Martin, in New York City to come and help him. While they are working to get the station together, Hayes overhears the mayor of the town conspiring with the owner of WVOX, Harry Fox, to rig the upcoming election. He broadcasts the details, which causes a scandal. Jane initially doesn’t believe the accusations about her boss, and her tiff with Hayes, along with some coaxing by Tiny, convince Hayes to return plan to return to New York City. As Hayes is leaving for the train station, Jane uncovers evidence about her boss’s plan to embezzle money from the town after the election, in collusion with the Mayor. Not being able to use WVOX’s equipment, she rushes over to WBAM to broadcast her findings. Hayes hears the broadcast at the rail station and fears for Jane’s safety, so he returns to town. The townspeople are incensed at the mayor and Fox, and run them out of town.
The phrase biens mal acquis is derived from the French proverb bien mal acquis ne profite jamais meaning "a thing dishonorably obtained never truly enriches" in English, and is generally translated to the equivalent English phrase of "ill- gotten goods". In a March 2007 report by the Catholic Committee Against Hunger and for Development (CCFD), titled Biens mal acquis... profitent trop souvent. La fortune des dictateurs et les complaisances occidentales (English: Ill- Gotten Goods... Too Often Do Benefit: Western Complacency and the Wealth of Dictators), enumerates known instances of kleptocracy in African dictatorships, estimating that $100–180 billion in assets have been diverted by national leaders through embezzlement or unnecessary expenditure in recent decades. For example, Mobutu Sese Seko, the President of Zaïre from 1965 until his death in 1997, became notorious for using his position as military dictator to openly embezzle massive sums of state money to fund an extravagant lifestyle.
While setting up the Jason display in a town, Alice learns from fellow carnival worker Kenton Freely that her mother had hated the carnival and that her father had lied to her—Alice's mother did not die in a carnival accident, she had actually died when George stabbed her to death after finding her and Kenton together; Kenton had been blackmailing George with this information, so he could embezzle from the carnival and eventually take it over. Devastated by this news, Alice, becoming drunk, steals a laptop from one of the carnies and uses it to put Jason up for sale on an internet auction site called ZingBid. Passing out after putting Jason up for auction, Alice awakens to find Jason rampaging through the carnival, having woken after a teenage girl named Glo, who had been possessed by Pamela Voorhees, came in proximity to him. After he kills the Pamela-possessed Glo, Jason falls comatose again and is taken by Alice, who drives away from the ruined carnival.
Following a period of state building after 1993, adoption of the new Constitution and with Azerbaijan's increasing economic power, President Heydar Aliyev identified four key reform areas comprising: (i) re- organization of state institutions; (ii) adoption of clear and transparent regulations for civil service recruitment; (iii) creation of various anti- corruption preventive and judicial institutions; and (iv) establishment of an anti-corruption policy. President Aliyev next signed the decree on “Strengthening the fight against corruption in the Republic of Azerbaijan” on 8 August 2000, which is considered to be the first indicator of the commitment of political will to the fight against corruption in Azerbaijan. The document clearly indicates that despite reforms having been carried out in the field of fighting against economic crimes, corruption and bribery continued to be widespread in public administration and financial regulatory bodies The document also shows that some public officials were misusing their powers to embezzle state property. Furthermore, it stated that legal violations in the private sector and financial regulatory bodies were the main impediments to the establishment of a safe market economy, entrepreneurship and foreign direct investments (FDIs).
Victims can be enticed to borrow or embezzle money to pay the advance fees, believing that they will shortly be paid a much larger sum and be able to refund what they misappropriated. Crimes committed by victims include credit- card fraud, check kiting, and embezzlement. San Diego-based businessman James Adler lost over $5 million in a Nigeria-based advance-fee scam. While a court affirmed that various Nigerian government officials (including a governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria) were directly or indirectly involved, and that Nigerian government officials could be sued in U.S. courts under the "commercial activity" exception to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, Adler was unable to get his money back due to the doctrine of unclean hands because he had knowingly entered into a contract that was illegal. Some 419 scams involve even more serious crimes, such as kidnapping or murder. One such case, in 2008, involves Osamai Hitomi, a Japanese businessman who was lured to Johannesburg, South Africa and kidnapped on September 26, 2008. The kidnappers took him to Alberton, south of Johannesburg, and demanded a $5 million ransom from his family. Seven people were ultimately arrested.
