The first half then culminates in the Marketing Case Competition, sponsored by S.C. Johnson & Son. The second semester focuses on the external aspects and includes the courses Statistics for Management, Managerial Finance, and Strategy. This half culminates each year in the Integrative Case Competition, sponsored by Citi. The elective curriculum can be chosen from over 80 courses within Johnson and over 4,000 offered across the Cornell campus.

The school offers Advanced Placement classes, as well as course specialties, termed "Academies", in such subjects as Criminal Justice, where students are introduced to law, forensics, patrol enforcement, and self-defense techniques. Business courses include information technology, where pupils become proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Upon successful completion and examination, students may qualify for Microsoft Office Specialist certification. STEM courses also form part of the school's elective curriculum.

In 2011 there was 11 elementary schools in which students from Slovak minority were able to learn Slovak language. Those schools were located in Ilok, Osijek, Soljani, Josipovac Punitovački, Markovac Našički, Jelisavac, Miljevci, Zdenci, Lipovljani and Međurići. Gymnasium in Požega was the first high school in Croatia to introduce Slovak language education into its elective curriculum. Union of Slovaks in cooperation with the Slovak Cultural Center in Našice publish magazine Prameň in Slovak language.

With the exception of Computer Science Inquiry, a required sophomore class, computer science courses are considered math electives. Courses on Web Technologies, Object-Oriented Programming, Micro-controller Programming, Advanced Programming, as well as various others are offered. Students who exhaust a significant portion of the elective curriculum are eligible to take advanced courses that are offered on a by-need basis. Examples include Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, and Group Theory, among others.

In 2009, the military science program began at BVU, the only such program in Western Iowa. The mission of the program is derived directly from the regulations governing the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (AROTC) which are issued by the Army Cadet Command and Army Training and Doctrine Command. Army ROTC is an elective curriculum students take along with their major program of study. The program is designed to give students tools, training and experiences that will help them succeed in any competitive environment.

University School of Management Studies offers a two-year full-time MBA program, which consists of one year of mandatory courses (Required Curriculum) and one year of unrestricted course selection (Elective Curriculum) in which the students can opt for 2 out of the 5 specialisations (One Major and the other Minor area of Specialisation). Admission to the course is on the basis of Common Entrance Test. The various specializations on offer include : - Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Systems & I.T, Global Business Management and financial markets.

The School of Social Work offers a full-time, two-year program and a part-time, three- or four-year program towards a Master's Degree of Social Work. The Clinical Program intervention method prepares students for a broad range of careers and focuses on direct service to those in need. The Macro: Social Innovation + Leadership Program focuses on training future leaders of the public and social service sectors in the development of new ideas and directions for solving social problems. The choice of concentration and intervention method combined with a five-elective curriculum plan allows students to customize their education to their professional and educational goals.

Within Johnson, the diverse selection includes courses such as Applied Portfolio Management, Behavioral Finance, Estate Planning, Power and Politics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Strategy & Tactics of Pricing, Entrepreneurship & Private Equity, Six-Sigma Quality & Process Implementation, and International Mergers and Acquisitions. Johnson students are allowed to matriculate in graduate-level courses in any Cornell college, including Cornell Law School, Cornell School of Hotel Administration, NYS School of Industrial & Labor Relations, and Cornell College of Engineering. Elective curriculum students can also complete a field study or independent student research project instead of a class. Field studies allow students to work together in a team closely with faculty members to launch a product, develop new businesses, or research a real-world issue.
