" Writing for The A.V. Club, Noel Murray graded "Earthling" with a B. Unlike Isler, the A.V. Club reviewer loved the opening, calling it "one of Fringes most effective freak-meets". With Peter Atkins and Dennis Etchison, Hirshberg co-founded the Rolling Darkness Revue, a reading and dramatic production which appears (like the carnival in "Mr. Dark's Carnival") in different venues and with appearances by different horror authors every year. "I'm Afraid of Americans" is a song by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released as a single from his 1997 album Earthling. The song, co-written by Bowie and Brian Eno, was originally written during Bowie's studio sessions for the 1995 album Outside"David Bowie: The FI Interview" by J.D. Considine, Fi magazine, October 1997, pp 36-41 but was not released until a rough mix appeared on the soundtrack to the film Showgirls, and was subsequently remade for Earthling. A top 20 hit in Canada, the rework also peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 16 weeks on that chart. This was the final Bowie single which charted on the Hot 100 until "Blackstar" and "Lazarus" following his death.

The Tin Machine track "I Can't Read" was re-recorded twice by Bowie in 1996, once for inclusion in The Ice Storm (1997) soundtrack, and once in this, Bowie's preferred form, for inclusion in the album Earthling, but at the last minute Bowie replaced it with the song "The Last Thing You Should Do." "Baby Universal '97", also originally by the band Tin Machine, was re-recorded for Earthling (to be slotted between "I'm Afraid of Americans" and "Law (Earthlings On Fire)", but was dropped from the album before its release. All three tracks have not been released before. "Nuts", a mostly-instrumental track by Bowie, Gabrels and Plati, was recorded in November 1996, and was intended as a bonus track, but was never released until this EP.

It was published as a limited edition hardcover by Earthling Publications in 2006. It comes with an introduction by Ray Garton. It was nominated for the Horror Writers Association's Bram Stoker Award for Best Long Fiction in 2006.

Mr. Chadbourne is known for his sense of humour and down to earth manner, as well as the stark honesty of his work.

Situated between Offenbach and the village Bieber it was the home of the club Kickers Offenbach but has now been replaced by the Sparda- Bank-Hessen-Stadion. David Bowie performed at the old stadium during his Serious Moonlight Tour on 24 June 1983 and during his Earthling Tour on 8 June 1997.

Carol Danvers (portrayed by Brie Larson) is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and commonly known by her alter-ego Captain Marvel. Danvers was created by Roy Thomas and Gene Colan and first appeared in Captain Marvel (2019). He was unhappy with choices made by the producers, including setting the Remulak scenes in a gladiators' arena, rather than the suburban environment that he envisioned. While there are some differences, Coneheads mostly follows the same plot as in the animated special that was created ten years earlier. Similarities include the Coneheads being stranded on Earth, Beldar working as an appliance repair man, and Connie dating an earthling named Ronnie.

The story falls outside of L. Frank Baum's original storyline for his Wonderful Wizard of Oz series and its official sequels. Being outside of the canonical restrictions, Bloodstained Oz makes the Land of Oz a nightmare for adults instead of a children's story. Both first editions of Bloodstained Oz were sold out very soon after publication, and there are no current plans to reprint it by Earthling Publications or any other publisher. Being an Oz related book and a horror novel have made it a collector's item.

Earthling (stylised as EART HL I NG) is the 20th studio album by English recording artist David Bowie. It was originally released in February 1997 by Arista and Virgin. Co-produced by Bowie, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati, it was recorded in 1996 at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland and Looking Glass Studios in New York City following the conclusion of the Outside Tour. The album showcases an electronica-influenced sound partly inspired by the industrial and drum and bass culture of the 1990s.

McQueen designed the wardrobe for David Bowie's tours in 1996–1997, as well as the Union Jack coat worn by Bowie on the cover of his 1997 album Earthling. Icelandic singer Björk sought McQueen's work for the cover of her album Homogenic in 1997. McQueen also directed the music video for her song "Alarm Call" from the same album and later contributed the iconic topless dress to her video for "Pagan Poetry".

Unlike its predecessor, Panic on Funkotron is a side-scrolling platform game in which up to two players play as ToeJam and Earl as they travel across Funkotron to capture antagonistic Earthlings that had stowed away. Players accomplish this by using a radar to locate an Earthling's proximity (some Earthlings may be hidden in the environment) and attack them with jars in order to trap and collect them. Once all Earthlings have been found, the player can move on to the next level.

A brain child of Mirshad Buckman and Shanka Samarasinghe: inspired to form a band after meeting in school and sharing similar interests in music, the band was put together with Asela Bandara and Dhanushka Samarasinghe as the original line-up. Asela Bandara named the band Paranoid Earthling. Appearing for a guest performance at a local college concert in late 2001, the band covered Nirvana which caught the attention of the youngsters and made a major breakthrough in the rock culture of Sri Lanaka. There are already humans there, descended from previous Shalnuksis drop-offs, in various states of civilization, all of them well behind that of 20th century Earth. With their modern weapons, they are told, they should be able to take over and live like kings. The mercenaries are set down on Tran and are joined by another Earthling, Gwen, the girlfriend of the spaceship pilot. She had become pregnant with the pilot's child and, since the Shalnuksis would not have allowed the child to live, she chose abandonment instead.

The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) is working the controls in the TARDIS, and he accidentally teleports his former companion Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding) on board. She is less than happy about this, and reluctantly agrees to help the Time Lord. He reveals that two Sontarans are on board, and they possess a powerful vitrox bomb with which they intend to blow up the time machine. The Doctor then accidentally beams on board an Earthling called Gareth Jenkins, who happens to be dressed in an outfit similar to his own.

Suddenly, a humanoid alien civilization known as the Buff Clan comes across Solo. Karala, the daughter of the Buff Clan's military commander flies down to the planet against orders with her assistant Mayaya to investigate (her commanding officer, Gije, is reluctant to go with her, due to her standing and the fact that he once was a soldier under her father). She is pursued closely by comrades sent by Gije, but they lose sight of her. Assuming the "aliens" (Earthling colonists) have attacked Karala, the Buff Clan begins to attack.

Since there are fewer humans on Earth than the number of Popplers that were eaten, and since Lrrr filled up on nuts during the negotiations, the Omicronians choose instead to eat the first Earthling to eat their young: Leela.

She plans to abduct a large number of humans before the destruction of Earth, and enslave them with the help of her operatives already on Earth. These operatives are led by Promethium II, a woman known as a Millennial Queen who goes by the Earth name, Yukino Yayoi. She has been living on Earth for almost 1,000 years, like many such Millennial Queens before her, with the intention of establishing a colony for her home planet. Promethium, who comes to care for her Earthling foster parents and friends, begins to question the La-Metalians' plans.

Bowie started writing the songs for Reality as the production for his previous album Heathen was wrapping up. Some songs he wrote quickly: "Fall Dog Bombs the Moon" was written in 30 minutes. Other songs, such as "Bring Me the Disco King", was a song Bowie had tried his hand at as early as the 1970s and had tried again with 1993's Black Tie White Noise as well as Earthling in 1997. The album was recorded and produced in New York City's Looking Glass Studios and co-produced by Bowie and Tony Visconti.

She remains in suspended animation while recovering from her injuries, eventually awakening to find that Slaine and Princess Lemrina are waging war against Earth in her name. While escaping Slaine's military base, she encounters an unconscious Inaho and is able to escape with the help of the AI implanted in his mechanical eye. Meglos wants to steal the Dodecahedron back from Tigella, as it is a Zolfa-Thuran energy source of immense power. To aid him, Meglos uses an Earthling captured for him by the Gaztaks to occupy and take on humanoid form: and the humanoid form he chooses is the Doctor, whom he has trapped in the bubble. While the hysteresis persists Meglos gets the Gaztaks to take him to Tigella, and infiltrates the city in his new identity. Zastor greets “the Doctor” warmly as an old friend, asking him to examine the Dodecahedron, but others are less sure, especially Lexa.

"I'm Afraid of Americans" was originally engineered by David Richards and appeared as a rough mix on the soundtrack to the film Showgirls in 1995 (in which the chorus is "I'm afraid of the animals," instead of the later "I'm afraid of Americans"). It was subsequently remade for Earthling. A CD single for "I'm Afraid of Americans" was released in the United States and Canada. The single did not include the album version of the song, but instead featured remixes of the track performed by Bowie's former tourmates, Nine Inch Nails, and drum and bass artist Photek.

Its modern use in science fiction literature contrasts Earth (the planet) with outer space or hypothetical other planets with sapient life. The term was often used in 1950s science fiction film and novels by aliens to express a disdainful or patronizing tone towards creatures from Earth. Ultraman Saga is the titular Ultra Warrior of the film of the same name, and is a , which resulted from the combination of Ultraman Zero, Dyna and Cosmos. He was formed when the three Ultra Warrior's hosts not wanting to give up their friend's homes and lives, their spirits bringing forth the creation of the , the key to Saga's formation. Statistics wise, Ultraman Saga is capable of fighting on the same level as Alien Bat's Imago Hyper Zetton. With the help of Team U's supervision, Hyper Zetton was finally crippled and sent upwards towards space before the Super Ultraman finished it off and return Alien Bat's Earthling hostages.

In 1996, Nelson augmented his sound with drum and bass for After The Satellite Sings, credited as a major influence on David Bowie's Earthling album by Bowie's then guitarist Reeves Gabrels. By 1996, Nelson's troubles with his former manager were resolved in a lawsuit which enabled Nelson to recover much of his back catalogue. The fully authorised Simplex was subsequently released in 2001 by Lenin Imports and reissued in 2012 by Esoteric. In the late 1990s, Nelson created the Populuxe label, with a distribution arrangement via Robert Fripp's Discipline Global Mobile, but his relationship with them stagnated and Nelson's last release on that label was Atom Shop in 1998.

In early 1961, an OTH radar facility, designated EARTHLING, was set up in Pakistan to track missile and spacecraft launches from the Tyuratam test range.

Zastor and Deedrix are arrested in a Deon coup, with other Savants expelled to the hostile surface of the planet, while the Doctor himself is prepared for sacrifice to Ti. The doors of the city are sealed with Meglos trapped inside, with a hostage Savant named Caris for company. She soon gets the upper hand when the Earthling tries another bout of resistance. In a subsequent mix-up, Romana overpowers Caris, letting Meglos escape and reunite with the Gaztaks, who have staged an attack on the city to rescue him. With the miniaturized Dodecahedron in his possession, the pirates blast off back to Zolfa-Thura – though three Gaztaks, half the crew, have been lost.

Supernova first attacked the Avenger Starfox (another alleged relative of Nebula's) in space which led to a confrontation between Supernova and the combined forces of the Avengers, Fantastic Four and fellow surviving Xandarian Firelord (a former herald of Galactus). Eventually, Knowledge Adventure was acquired by Davidson and the company lines were merged. In 1999, coinciding with the CBS Saturday Morning cartoon Blaster's Universe produced by Nelvana and Teletoon, the characters once again changed, probably to be more identifiable as people, with Blasternaut becoming Max Blaster, a 12-year-old boy obsessed with science and space in the 21st century, and his Galactic Commander becoming G.C., a cool 12-year-old girl who looks like an earthling but is really an alien. Together they must secretly work to save G.C.'s universe, using logic and creativity to outsmart the intergalactic outlaws. Spot, the robot companion was dropped, with a robot dog named "MEL" ("Mechanically Enhanced Lapdog") replacing him.

When the Kaldane places itself upon the neck of the Rykor, a bundle of tentacles connects with the Rykor's spinal cord, allowing the brain of the Kaldane to interface with the body of the Rykor. Should the Rykor become damaged or die, the Kaldane merely climbs upon another as an earthling might change a horse. The Kaldanes have sacrificed their bodies to become pure brain, but although they can interface with Rykor bodies, their ability to function compared to a normal people, with an integrated mind and body, is ineffectual and clumsy. The Kaldanes, almost pure brain, are also, while highly intelligent, ugly ineffectual creatures when not interfaced with a Rykor body.

While playing professionally, Case began looking at game design as a potential career, stating, "I love games, and I love competition -- but having no choice but to play the same game day-in and day-out with all sorts of pressure attached just didn't suit my nature." According to Case, she did freelance game design work from her Dallas home for two years after university, using free design tools that she downloaded. Still sore over Tenchi's grandfather (and the emperor's own son) Yōshō abandoning Jurai to marry an Earthling, Azusa begrudgingly approves, but only if Tenchi could defeat his chosen fiancé for Ayeka in a duel. This "worthy suitor" was Seiryō Tennan, son of one of Jurai's wealthiest families. Flashy with an exaggerated sense of style (he rigs his own light show and cherry blossoms for special effects), Seiryō sees the events from a skewed point of view, believing the princesses to be confined in a dump much worse than a prison cell. He takes it upon himself to "liberate" Ayeka from her forced labor and thereby the barbarous Tenchi, believing it to be his, or rather, "any civilized person's" moral duty.

The novel begins in the year 2489 C.E. with the avian Gubru planning to invade Garth, Earthlings on Garth preparing to defend their claim to the planet, and ambassadors from other races getting ready to depart. The Gubru, a conservative and somewhat humorless alien race, attempt to hold Garth hostage in an attempt to learn more about the discovery that the dolphin spaceship Streaker made in Startide Rising about the Progenitors. The Gubru invade and overpower Garth's weak space forces, a battle that is witnessed by a neo-chimp soldier of Earthclan, Fiben Bolger. Having easily overcome Garth's token resistance in near- planetary space, the Gubru engage a small portion of their ground force in ritualistic combat against Earthling forces.

Heinlein originally coined the term grok in his 1961 novel Stranger in a Strange Land as a Martian word that could not be defined in Earthling terms, but can be associated with various literal meanings such as "water", "to drink", "life", or "to live", and had a much more profound figurative meaning that is hard for terrestrial culture to understand because of its assumption of a singular reality. According to the book, drinking water is a central focus on Mars, where it is scarce. Martians use the merging of their bodies with water as a simple example or symbol of how two entities can combine to create a new reality greater than the sum of its parts. The water becomes part of the drinker, and the drinker part of the water.

Due to resistance by the King of Britain, half of the Fleet and of the world's armament industries are retained—which is not enough to resist the Kalkar invasion fleets, built and led by Orthis, which descend on the world in 2050.

Bowie's enthusiasm for remixing reached its peak when this album was released and the numerous singles from it were also issued to clubs, as well as online: three versions of "Telling Lies" were released on Bowie's official website months prior to the album's release, constituting the first ever downloadable single by a major artist. "Little Wonder" was the album's biggest hit, reaching No. 14 in the UK. Three more singles — "Dead Man Walking", "Seven Years in Tibet" and "I'm Afraid of Americans" (with participation of Trent Reznor) — did not fare so well, although the latter did remain in the US charts for 16 weeks, peaking at No. 66. The music videos for Earthling were elaborate. Artist and director Floria Sigismondi directed the short films for "Little Wonder" and "Dead Man Walking", while Dom and Nic directed "I'm Afraid of Americans", the latter being nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

According to Reeves Gabrels, Bowie wanted to remake some of the songs almost immediately after the two met in late 1987, and considered putting some of them on his next album, but Gabrels talked him out of it, suggesting it was too soon to do so. Bowie discussed recording some of the tracks from Never Let Me Down with Gabrels again in 1996, prior to going into the studio to make his album Earthling (1997), but no tracks were recorded. Bowie had Mario J. McNulty remix the track "Time Will Crawl" in 2008 for his compilation of self- selected favourite songs, iSelect, and later included the same mix on his career-spanning 50th anniversary compilation, Nothing Has Changed. At the time Bowie had said, "Oh, to redo the rest of that album", and according to the Parlophone label in 2018, that was the beginning of the desire to "reimagine" the album.

As a member of the institute, he led an archaeological expedition to Earth in the year 827 G.E. Whilst there, Arvardan helped Joseph Schwartz (himself a temporally displaced Earthman from the year 1949 AD), Affret Shekt, and daughter Pola Shekt discover and foil a plot to destroy the galaxy by Earthling zealots. As a result of the heroic actions of Bel Arvardan and Joseph Schwartz, the Empire benevolently agreed to revitalize Earth's radioactive ecology in the hopes of one day making it a fully productive world once more, and begins transporting soil to help repair the damaged zones. Arvardan subsequently became a naturalized citizen of Earth and married Pola Shekt, both volunteering to spend the rest of their lives working to clean up Earth's radioactive wastelands. In Foundation's Edge, Munn Li Compor tells Golan Trevize that Bel Arvardan is remembered as "a folk-hero on Comporellon".

Jens appeared in the April 7, 1962, episode of The Defenders, "The Naked Heiress", where she portrayed a college educated stripper romantically involved with a much older professor who, in a drunken state, was tricked by her conniving mother into changing his will, making Jens's character the heir to his entire estate. In 1963 she appeared in an episode of The Untouchables, "The Man in the Cooler," an episode of The Outer Limits, "Corpus Earthling". In 1966, she played a WWII nurse of Nazi Germany assigned in Northern Africa in The Rat Patrol episode entitled, "The Blind Man's Bluff Raid", which aired October 24, 1966. Other appearances in other television shows included I Spy episode "A Room with a Rack" in 1967, as a globe-trotting pilot friend of Kelly Robinson and Alexander Scott. She was cast as a prisoner in "The Wagon", a 1970 episode of Bonanza.

In Tales of the Legion of Super-Heroes #336 (June 1986), reserve Legionnaire Bouncing Boy described to his comrade Superboy how he came to meet the young heroine while he was on a goodwill tour to a planet called Quaal III; Comet Queen ambushed him in the hotel and introduced herself, declaring him her very own "personal Legionnaire." Bouncing Boy rejected Comet Queen's initial bid for membership on the grounds that she has not proven herself. Later, he finds out from several hotel guests, including Grava's own father, that the girl had gone off in a fit of dejection to search for Quaal III's lava seas to seek out the planet's mythical natives, as a "super-feat" to prove herself worthy - mirroring Supergirl's bid to join the Legion by excavating various Earthling artifacts. Instead, Bouncing Boy and Comet Queen ended up in a near-death situation until they work together, combining their powers, and finding an escape.

In the 2011 Devil's Due comics, the Pidge character is referred to as Darrell "Pidge" Stoker. The comic book version of Pidge depicts him as a growth-stunted 15-year-old, and as an Earthling (as opposed to his cartoon counterpart hailing from the planet Balto). He's also depicted as an orphan abandoned outside a convent when she was six weeks old (however, he may yet have a family because later he talks with Vehicle team member Chip about the similarities that exist between the two of them, he remarks that '[they]'re one DNA test short of discovering [they]'re brothers' which is a nod to the cartoon establishment of Pidge and Chip as twins). During his years at the orphanage, his scores on a state- mandated IQ test caught the eye of the New West Point military academy, who promptly enrolled him to put his awe-inspiring understanding of computer systems to good use.

In 2008, Will Z. founded Cosmic Trip Machine and recorded four albums, Lord Space Devil, Vampyros Roussos, The Curse of Lord Space Devil and Golden Horus Name for the Berlin-based Nasoni Records, home of Earthling Society, Vibravoid, Space Invaders & Nik Turner... In March 2016, Iggy Pop broadcast three extracts of Golden Horus Name on his BBC Radio 6 Music show During Golden Horus Name sessions, Will Z. helped the Psychedelic folk band Can am des puig, formed in 1977 in Deià, to finish their four parts project and worked with Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth from Gong before launching a solo career. His first solo album, Shambhala Album, inspired by meditation is recorded, produced and distributed in 10 days. In 2013, Will Z. worked on 12 Visions, based on Là-bas by French novelist Joris-Karl Huysmans and Dark Tales, inspired by Syd Barrett and the first Black Sabbath albums. Will Z. used Korg MS-20 plugged in Turbo RAT effects pedal to create Drone metal ambiances. .

The Last Radio Program – In 1984, Tony replaced Mark Radcliffe on Piccadilly Radio, presenting their specialist music program The Last Radio Programme for Key 103 in Manchester. Tony took the on-air name of “Tony the Greek” and remained as presenter for this program for the next 13 years. Throughout the show, Tony helped to launch careers for bands like The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Simply Red, James and R.E.M.. He conducted interviews with artists regularly and was arguably one of the first to introduce the now familiar Acoustic Set to UK radio in 1985. While working on The Last Radio Show, Tony was nominated for several Sony Music Awards for Best Specialist Music Show. 1997 Michaelides was asked to be publicist for David Bowie’s Earthling Tour, responsible for press, radio, and television. The following year TMP worked closely with Lippman Entertainment, one of the world’s most successful management companies, to launch Matchbox Twenty in the UK. At the same time, he was also a working with Warner Chappell’s LA office and Atlantic Records’ New York office.

Picacio has since produced design work and - particularly - cover art for many notable SF, fantasy and horror books printed by many different publishers, from some of the longest-established and largest American SF&F; imprints (Random House/Ballantine Books/Del Rey; HarperCollins/Eos; Roc Books; Tor Books), to more recent, independent publishers (Golden Gryphon Press; MonkeyBrain Books; Night Shade Books; Tachyon Publications; Earthling Publication and iBooks). Picacio cites a "mutual respect" between himself and his art directors, who tend to give him "space to create" his artwork, which he sees as part of an interaction with the reader, "communicating with a smart and sophisticated audience". He works particularly well with fellow-Texan Roberson (author and MonkeyBrain publisher), and the editorial director of Prometheus Books' science fiction imprint Pyr Lou Anders. He has provided covers for several of Roberson's solo efforts - from one of his earliest self-published titles, the 2002 Clockwork Storybook title Any Time at All to his 2007 X-Men novel - as well as providing dozens of covers for almost the entire output of MonkeyBrain Books.
