Discordance Axis were influenced by cyberpunk and science fiction. Avant-Pop collective Twin Lovers, references the novel on their self-titled release within the songs "Montgomery L. Hopkins", "Jason Taverner Does Not Exist", and "Sixes". The American indie rock band Built to Spill released a song, "Nowhere Nothin' Fuckup" on their 1993 album Ultimate Alternative Wavers. Human Remains was an American grindcore band, formed in 1989 in New Jersey. The band featured the vocalist Paul Miller, the guitarists Steve Procopio and James Baglino, as well as the drummer Dave Witte, who is also known for his work for Discordance Axis, Burnt by the Sun, and Atomsmasher. The band's most notable release, Using Sickness as a Hero EP, was released by Relapse Records in 1996. A compilation album featuring the band's entire discography, Where Were You When: 1989-1995, was also released in 2002.

During their first US tour, label owner Matt Beckerman signed Maharahj to his (now defunct) nowornever records. Sharing the stage with such label-mates as The Dillinger Escape Plan and Diecast (band), Maharahj found underground scene success with their blend of discordance and mathematical technicality. Isotopic samples taken from the Pacific-Antarctic ridge basalts have disassembled the long-held belief that there was a coherent geochemical province stretching from the Australian- Antarctic discordance to the Juan de Fuca plate. Instead, samples have shown that there are instead two distinct geochemical domains above and below the Easter microplate. Measurements of the average depth of ridge axes also shows that this boundary line lies on the southeastern side of the Darwin Rise/Pacific Superswell. This early material was put out on Snuff Records, which was run by Roderic and Didier. In 1998, Knut released their first full-length, Bastardiser, which showcased a sharper and more focused aggression, combining heavily distorted guitars, odd-time signatures, use of discordance and repetition, and harsh vocals.

Deny the Cross is an American powerviolence band. Founded in 2013, the group features drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Discordance Axis, Burnt by the Sun), vocalist Carlos Ramirez (Black Army Jacket), guitarist Dan Lactose (Spazz), and bassist Ramon Salcido (Agents of Satan, Plutocracy). Signed to the Tankcrimes label, Deny the Cross released its debut album, Alpha Ghoul, on June 29, 2016. The album was partly recorded by Brainoil vocalist/bassist Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California. Former Charles Bronson vocalist Mark McCoy created the album’s artwork and layout. Alpha Ghoul premiered as an exclusive album stream at Vice’s Noisey.

Swimming Warnings about the future of the polar bear are often contrasted with the fact that worldwide population estimates have increased over the past 50 years and are relatively stable today. Some estimates of the global population are around 5,000 to 10,000 in the early 1970s; other estimates were 20,000 to 40,000 during the 1980s. Current estimates put the global population at between 20,000 and 25,000 or 22,000 and 31,000. There are several reasons for the apparent discordance between past and projected population trends: estimates from the 1950s and 1960s were based on stories from explorers and hunters rather than on scientific surveys.

As a former servant of God, Eclipso is able to "speak" the angelic language; a combination of harmony, discordance, vibration and telepathy. In later publishing his powers have grown ever still, showcasing vast cosmological if not reality bending capability at his peak being able to cause a solar eclipse drowning the entire world in darkness. Eclipso is able to overshadow anyone who touches or comes into contact with the cursed Heart of Darkness gem, controlling the host's powers and influencing their behaviors and memories to Eclipso's own ends. He can then strengthen his host by either enhancing their normal capabilities or bestowing them with new powers.

A bundle branch block can be diagnosed when the duration of the QRS complex on the ECG exceeds 120 ms. A right bundle branch block typically causes prolongation of the last part of the QRS complex and may shift the heart's electrical axis slightly to the right. Trending east-west between Australia and Antarctica, the SEIR traverses the Australian-Antarctic Discordance (AAD), a morphologically complex region overlying an area of mantle down-welling. Located midway between the ASP-Kerguelen and the Balleny-Tasmantid hotspots, the AAD overlies a region where cooler mantle temperatures have produced a thin oceanic crust and a rough topography with deep valleys. Between the AAD and the Amsterdam and St. Paul islands, spreading rate is constant at 69–75 mm/yr while axial depth increases by more than 2300 m. This has been interpreted as an eastward decrease in mantle temperature of perhaps 100 °C caused by a magma flow from the Kerguelen–ASP hotspots to the AAD 'cold spot' at 120–128°E.

A showpiece of his concerts from the era was his radically transformed cover of Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," initially performed by Cale on Slow Dazzle and the live album 1 June 1974, recorded with Kevin Ayers, Nico and Eno. Both "Leaving It Up to You" and "Fear Is a Man's Best Friend" (from Fear) begin as relatively conventional songs that gradually grow more paranoid in tone before breaking down into what critic Dave Thompson calls "a morass of discordance and screaming". Cale released Animal Justice in 1977, an EP notable particularly for the epic "Hedda Gabler", based very loosely on the Ibsen play. His loud, abrasive and confrontational live performances fitted well with the punk rock scene developing on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Spazz vocalist and bassist Chris Dodge's record label, Slap-a-Ham Records, was a fixture during the rapid rise and decline of powerviolence in the late '80s and early '90s, releasing influential records by the likes of Man Is the Bastard, No Comment, Crossed Out, Infest and Spazz, amongst others. The label's Fiesta Grande was an annual power violence festival held at 924 Gilman Street during its heyday, from 1992 to the band's demise in 2000. Since then, he has been involved in several musical projects, most notably East West Blast Test with highly regarded extreme metal drummer Dave Witte, formerly of Discordance Axis, Melt-Banana and many others. In recent years, he has performed with bands like Despise You, Lack Of Interest, Infest, and To The Point.

Since individual gene trees can differ from the species tree one cannot estimate the tree for a single locus and assume that the gene tree correspond the species tree. In fact, one can be virtually certain that any individual gene tree will differ from the species tree for at least some relationships when any reasonable number of taxa are considered. However, gene tree-species tree discordance has an impact on the theory and practice of species tree estimation that goes beyond the simple observation that one cannot use a single gene tree to estimate the species tree because there is a part of parameter space where the most frequent gene tree is incongruent with the species tree.

Historical re-enactors find that the traditional fifes – Ferrary, Model F, Peeler, Cooperman, and to a lesser extent Sweet fifes — are much better suited to their historical requirements while simultaneously allowing their fifers to play together without the discordance that can result when using instruments from multiple manufacturers. The 2018 grindcore documentary Slave to the Grind explores Putnam in detail, with his peers expressing the duality of his nature: former bandmates Tim Morse and Scott Hull describe Putnam often being personable and relaxed, but Hull also notes that he'd often get arrested causing trouble on the street. Discordance Axis singer Jon Chang notes that he was really close to Putnam for years, but describes him as a "really disturbed guy" and a "backstabbing piece of shit at the end of his life". Chang also recounted an incident after a show when Putnam introduced his mother to Chang, he remarked that they had met earlier when he pulled Putnam's mother out from the show's moshpit, causing Putnam to become aggressive and threaten Chang, much to the confusion of everyone present. Putnam was also good friends with Pantera frontman, Philip Anselmo.

The transmission of the event, which was conducted by the public broadcaster Televisión Nacional de Chile, was restricted to the regions corresponding to the First primary (O'Higgins and Maule). Some of the issues addressed were the economic crisis, collusion of pharmacies, and political corruption, and although in general there was not much confrontation between the candidates, but the criticisms were concentrated in the Alliance for Chile, there were points of discordance, as in the decriminalization of induced abortion, and in the use of energy sources, whose emblematic case was the Hidroaysén project. A post-debate survey, conducted by El Mercurio, gave Frei a winner with 49% of preferences, compared to 23.9% Gómez.

About.com's Carew felt Prayers on Fire was able to "capture the qualities of their infamous live-shows on record ... the evocatively-produced set dared dress key cuts in blaring brass; giving a sense of perverted-cabaret to their mordant racket, turning Cave from nihilist, self-destructive savant to theatrical, flamboyant showman". Allmusic's Greg Maurer's found "a fascination with the dark, (self-)destructive side of religion is more than evident in his later work... While there might not be any of the explicit Biblical imagery on [the album] that Cave would later ejaculate, the title ... is apt". McFarlane stated it showed the band was "irrevocably and unashamedly changing for the better, being more aggressive than anything they had ever recorded". Sound Stage Direct described it as "a creepy carnival of tribal rhythms, wonky discordance and garbled surrealism".

The widespread disdain for the McMansion stems from perceptions that these houses look and feel inappropriate for a given neighborhood, waste land (suburban sprawl, too much room for too few people) and resources (building materials, utilities, long commutes), project the pretentiousness (or lack of taste or refinement) of their owners, and a general discordance in architectural preferences. McMansions have received extensive criticism in Australia because they do not blend in with the archetypal Australian house (generally single story red brick or bungalows) and because they use render materials perceived as giving an ugly, over the top, and exaggerated appearance. From 1855 to 1866, Hodgson-Huntley was the chairman of the North British Railway Board of Directors. Whether intended or not, the record took the form of a coherent "song cycle", a radical commentary on contemporary American society. The words ranged from satires on decadence ("The American Metaphysical Circus", "..Wooden Wife..", (this title being a parody of the 1905 music hall song, "I Wouldn't Leave My Little Wooden Hut for You" by Tom Mellor and Charles Collins) to lyrical expressions of longing (the pastoral "Cloud Song", the political "Love Song For The Dead Che"). Musically, the songs ranged from pseudo-classical elegance ("Stranded In Time", "Where Is Yesterday") to aggressive discordance and hard rock ("The Garden of Earthly Delights", "Hard Coming Love"), with heavy electronic distortion and collages of music such as brass bands, in line with Byrd being heavily influenced by Charles Ives. The final suite "The American Way of Love" integrates most of these elements, with a dreamlike ending containing a collage of earlier tracks.

In the U.S. state of South Carolina three marker species of fossil algae are found in a core of rock whereas in Virginia only two of the three species are found in the Eocene Series of rock layers spanning three stages and the geologic ages from 37.2-55.8 MA. Comparing the record about the discordance in the record to the full rock column shows the non-occurrence of the missing species and that portion of the local rock record, from the early part of the middle Eocene is missing there. This is one form of discordancy and the means geologists use to compensate for local variations in the rock record. With the two remaining marker species it is possible to correlate rock layers of the same age (early Eocene and latter part of the middle Eocene) in both South Carolina and Virginia, and thereby "calibrate" the local rock column into its proper place in the overall geologic record.

Lukács addresses the discordance in the community of modernist critics, whom he regarded as incapable of deciding which writers were Expressionist and which were not, arguing that "perhaps there is no such thing as an Expressionist writer". Although his aim is ostensibly to criticise what he perceived as the over- valuation of modernist schools of writing at the time the article was published, Lukács uses the essay as an opportunity to advance his formulation of the desirable alternative to these schools. He rejects the notion that modern art must necessarily manifest itself as a litany of sequential movements, beginning with Naturalism, and proceeding through Impressionism and Expressionism to culminate in Surrealism. For Lukács, the important issue at stake was not the conflict that results from the modernists' evolving oppositions to classical forms, but rather the ability of art to confront an objective reality that exists in the world, an ability he found almost entirely lacking in modernism.

At present the best evidence suggests that in migration the male to female ratio in humans may have declined, causing a trimming of Y diversity on multiple occasions within and outside of Africa.

Murray's successor as manager, Alan Brown, alienated senior players such as Billy Bingham, Don Revie and Len Shackleton, leaving Grainger to later comment that "Brown's presence had created discordance out of harmony, anxiety out of tranquillity" and "football felt like work and training felt like prison".
