The Sea Monster crashes into the Generals, dragging them into the portal before it closes. Karai warns them to enjoy their victory while it lasts, cryptically claiming they will soon contend with faces from their past before vanishing. A now-mortal Yaotl honors Splinter and the Turtles, thanking them for fulfilling his wish before dissipating. Splinter places Yaotl's helmet among his trophy collection, as well as Raph's Nightwatcher helmet and Mikey's "Cowabunga Carl" head.

The Biggest Wave is the second album released by surf music band The Surfin' Lungs, released in September 1987 on Satellite Records' Beat International label. Similar in style to Cowabunga, The Biggest Wave featured a collection of surf/summer-inspired tunes with all 12 songs self-penned by the group. The album was self-produced by the group, but a failure by Beat International to promote the album saw fail to attract the attention it should have.

No Sharking Zone Scrappy accompanies the rest of the gang to Scareruba Island to interview Prince Ruba and Cowabunga Carlyle. They encounter a shark, which Scrappy is eager to investigate as ever. Scoobygeist Scrappy, along with Shaggy and Scooby, accompanies Daphne to a "haunted house", which Daphne doesn't believe is haunted, and seeks to spend the night there to prove it, and then write an article about it. Once inside the haunted house, Daphne picks up the diary and offers to read it out loud to Scrappy.

Splinter explains that Raph has not yet mastered control over his rage and is therefore not eligible to be leader. In this film, Donnie also seems to show a bit more emotional care for Mikey than in the previous films. According to the short "Mikey's Birthday Party" Donnie helps Mikey with his job as a character entertainer named "Cowabunga Carl" by communicating with Mikey via cameras and head gear in order to remind him to hand-out flyers and to get cash (not checks). This seems to irritate Mikey to a large degree.

The two groups agree to both fight monogamist gays and stem cells and to take Bart's idea to heart. The episode then jumps 1,000 years into the future, when Bart is believed to be the last Prophet of God. In this age, mankind is waging war over whether Bart's teachings were about love and tolerance, or understanding and peace (and whether he was betrayed by his minion Milhouse and ripped apart by snowmobiles until he died). Unable to come to an agreement, one side cries Bart's catchphrase "Eat my shorts", the other cries "Cowabunga" and both sides engage in a bloody battle.

Additionally, all four of the Turtles were official "spokes-turtles" of the "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign, despite accusations that at least one of them exhibited characteristics of a stoner. During one of these anti-drug PSAs, Michelangelo suggests to a kid being tempted with marijuana that he should "get a pizza" to go with it, before the idea is shot down by Donatello. Donatello works as an IT specialist, Michelangelo works as a birthday party entertainer called "Cowabunga Carl", and Raphael continues to fight crime at night as a masked vigilante known as the Nightwatcher, which he keeps a secret from his family and friends. The Turtles' old friend April O'Neil now operates a shipping company that locates and acquires relics for collectors, assisted by her boyfriend, Casey Jones. April travels to Central America for work and finds Leo, telling him that his brothers have drifted apart. She returns to New York City with a statue for wealthy tycoon Max Winters.

When he and the Foot Clan try to steal a cloud seeder from Wayne Enterprises, he ends up fighting Batman and barely comes out victorious after using an ancient technique. Later, he fights Batman once more when the Turtles and the Bat Family arrive at Ace Chemicals to stop him and Ra's from activating the machine. Though he gains the upper hand on the Dark Knight once again, he is thrown off when Batman says "Cowabunga" and gains assistance from Raphael. After Michaelangelo and Donatello destroy the machine, the debris sends him into a vat of chemicals as the plant explodes.

Later that year, the Lungs released their first "mini-album", Cowabunga, under the watchful eye of Wills again, but this time on Ace Records' Big Beat label, with the nine-track album receiving some respectable reviews in the music press. March 1986 saw the release of the Big Beat EP, Surf-Jet Girl, which became a radio hit in Switzerland. At the controls this time was Roman Jugg of The Damned. Big Beat had big plans for the record and were planning to give away a surf-jet in a national competition to promote the EP, but the idea never got off the ground.

The next year saw the release of Insect Surfers' Death Valley Coastline CD, featuring the same personnel as East West. Death Valley Coastline included a guest appearance (on the cut "Volcano Juice") by instrumental fuzz guitar pioneer Davie Allan, whom Arnson credits as a major musical influence. Also released in 1996 was Rhino Records 4-CD history of surf music, Cowabunga! The Surf Box, which cemented Insect Surfers’ role in the development of the genre with the inclusion of their classic track "Polaris". In January 2002, Insect Surfers shared a two-day bill with Peter Case, John Doe, George Sarah’s string trio, and other musicians at the Grand Opening Fiesta for Rhino Records’ new store near Westwood Village in Los Angeles.

In TMNT, Mikey has taken to performing at children's birthday parties as "Cowabunga Carl" in order to help make ends meet to support his family. It becomes apparent early in the film that the physical and emotional absence of his older brothers has finally begun to affect the outgoing Michelangelo; when he returns home from work and announces his presence and no one acknowledges him, he sighs "Whatever..this place used to be fun". Unlike his other incarnations, the 2007 Mikey seems to draw the most emotional support from Donatello instead of his oldest brothers, Leonardo and Raphael. Upon Leonardo's return from Central America, Mikey gives his oldest brother an enthusiastic hug, falling over the couch and tripping over furniture in his excitement.

In the episode "Journey to the Center of Mikey's Mind", he says "Booyakabunga" (a mixture of both Booyakasha and Cowabunga). Michelangelo also has an affinity for animals in this incarnation, as well as a fear of squirrels. Whilst he is more interested in comics and cartoon shows (such as Crognard the Barbarian, which is a parody of Thundarr the Barbarian; and Super Robo Mecha Force Five, which is a parody of both Voltron and Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, the latter of which also created by series creator Ciro Nieli) than animals, he adopted a cat April found on the street after the cat ate some mutagen Mikey had spilled ice cream in, resulting in the arable and delicious Ice Cream Kitty; most likely this incarnation's version of Klunk.

Barry spent the last year of his career in the Ontario independents. On January 12, 2008, he joined "Sniper" Randy Vahn and Krystal Banks in a 3-on-2 intergender handicap match against Chuck "The Butcher" Simpson and "Anti-Diva" Kaitlyn Diemond at an RWI show in Welland, Ontario, which Barry's team lost via disqualification. A week later, he entered Pro Wrestling Xtreme's "Woodstock Championship Tournament" in Woodstock, Ontario and made it to the finals before being eliminated by Hayden Avery. He also made a return to Michigan to team with Prince Erebus, Brother Cat Jackson, and Monster Ryot in an 8-man tag team match against AWWL Heavyweight Champion Harker Dirge, Blackjack Phoenix, The Unknown Commentator, and Cowabunga Dude for a March 1 TV taping in Saginaw, Michigan; according to the pre-match stipulations, the wrestler who scored the winning pinfall would win the championship.
