In addition to his quite casual lifestyle, Raeburn refused to have anything to do with the art-establishment in Edinburgh. Although he had been influenced by the Modern Movement, through his art teacher Ralph Hay, he refused to conform to the later emerging Modernist Movement, while the backbench politics of the Royal Scottish Academy made him rebel even more against this closed circle of painters.

Sachin (Kunal Khemu) and Zaramud (Cyrus Broacha) are two small-time crooks in Mumbai, who make a living out of duplicating mobile phone sim cards and selling them to customers who would like to own a phone but not pay phone bills. Duplicate sim cards enable these people to use a particular sim card for a month, after which the user of the original sim card is notified through an inflated phone bill that someone else is also using the same connection. This scam was working quite well for Sachin and Zaramud, as they operated among a closed group of customers who would buy a new duplicate sim each month. However, the two cons break their code when they sell a duplicate sim to a man outside the closed circle.

While viewing one parade at Hong Kong Disneyland that fall, Iger realized how badly Disney needed Pixar, because all characters, which were less than ten years old in the parade, were from films by Pixar. In the end of January 2006, Iger and Jobs agreed to the deal, in which Disney would purchase Pixar, for $7.4 billion, with Pixar’s leadership (Edwin Catmull and Lasseter) taking control of Disney’s animation group. Under this new deal, Pixar would make Toy Story 3 with an all new script; director Andrew Stanton stated that Pixar purposely avoided looking at the script by Circle 7. On May 26, 2006, Disney officially closed Circle 7 Animation, and transferred, about 80%, of the studio’s employees, to Walt Disney Feature Animation, which was soon renamed Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Regional diplomacy is a specific form of multilateral diplomacy that is practiced within a closed circle of neighboring states. The term 'region' used in international affairs is a geography-based political construct in that a priory reason exists to determine the contours of a region, and the way a region is defined depends on those that run a particular regional organization. Regional diplomacy is of special interest today because in many parts of the world, regional organizations are on the rise, driven by an urge to pursue stronger economic links, and to use this to improve mutual political understanding, and gain in mutual security. The European Union (EU), now consisting of 28 member states, is the world's most advanced practitioner of regional diplomacy, and a role model in most parts of the world.

Later, during the Yuan dynasty the two terms were merged to become fenghuang, but the "King of Birds" came to symbolize the empress when paired with a dragon representing the emperor. From the Jiajing era (1522–66) of the Ming dynasty onwards, a pair of phoenixes was differentiated by the tail feathers of the two birds, typically together forming a closed circle pattern—the male identified by five long serrated tail feathers or "filaments" (five being an odd, masculine, or yang number) and the female by what sometimes appears to be one but is in fact usually two curling or tendrilled tail feathers (two being an even, feminine, or yin number). Also during this period, the fenghuang was used as a symbol representing the direction south. This was portrayed through a male and female facing each other.

To the right of the central group of dancers a young man drags another woman away from the group of dancers, to join a pair of lovers who lie down together at the right of the painting. Across the entire width of the background, a darkening sky and oncoming storm clouds presage the destruction that the dancers are unwittingly about to bring upon themselves. In a preliminary study for The World Before the Flood now in the York Art Gallery, the broad structure is similar to that of the finished work, but the focus is more strongly on the central group of women. In Etty's oil sketch and in preliminary drawings the right-most of the dancing figures, wearing a green skirt, faces outward with her arms behind her back, forming a closed circle together with the central group of dancers.

In Paul Cernat's view, they form part of the fantasy genre to be read by adults, similar to the writings of Edward Lear, Antoine de Saint Exupéry, J. R. R. Tolkien, Peter Beagle, and Lewis Carroll. Cernat argued: "Condescending prejudice has sought to exile [Chimet] into a shelf of curiosities merely frequented by a closed circle of connoisseurs: Chimet—the children's author, Chimet—the author of anthologies-manifestos for the innocence of adults, for the freedom of imagination and for the right to memory…" Also set in the Old City, his Lamento pentru peștișorul Baltazar ("Lament for Baltazar the Little Fish") was authored during the 1940s, but, due to political constraints, was only published in 1968 (when it reportedly failed to be chronicled by any literary magazine).

In Grenoble, he set up in 1959 at the master level a new syllabus in general geophysics which will flourish in the 1960s when the Earth's sciences will be refounded by the plate tectonics "theory". He also modelled the postglacial rebound of the lithosphere as observed in Fennoscandia or Canada following the disappearance of Quaternary ice caps, which allowed him to infer the mechanical properties of the Earth's mantle, its rheology and its viscosity.
