The period 1945–1950 saw a meteoric rise in Bronstein's development, as he reached the World Chess Championship challenge match, in 1951.
In 2006 St Brigid's became the first GAA club to play against the Police Service of Northern Ireland Gaelic football team. In 2009 Brolly broke his leg while playing in a challenge match against Cookstown. The Canon O'Brien Cup was launched in 2013 by GAA President Liam O'Neill. The Cup was planned to be an annual challenge match between Cork and University College Cork. Canon Michael O'Brien, who was heavily involved as a coach with both teams, led UCC to eight consecutive Fitzgibbon Cup titles between 1981 and 1988 and led Cork to the 1990 All-Ireland title.

Hogan took part in a challenge match between Tipperary and Dublin at Croke Park on Bloody Sunday, November 21, 1920. The day before, he travelled on the train with the other members of the team. A number of the players, including Hogan, became involved in a fight with soldiers from the Lincolnshire Regiment before throwing them from the train. In 1959, she made two television appearances on ABC's You Asked for It, and one on the CBS primetime television hit What's My Line?. Katsura returned to competition in 1961, playing a challenge match for the World Three-Cushion title against Worst, then reigning world champion, and was defeated by him. Katsura disappeared from the sport thereafter, only making a brief impromptu appearance in 1976. She moved back to Japan around 1990 and died in 1995.

In doing so, the victorious wrestler usually gets some type of reward in return, such as inclusion in a title match, for instance. In a variation on the November 20, 2013 episode of NXT, two wrestlers completed a match, with the match duration being used as the marker for two other wrestlers to complete their match.
Aslam then issued challenges to wrestlers all over the world and announced a reward of 100,000 rupees to any wrestler who could beat him. In a challenge match, Aslam defeated Indian wrestler Tarlok Singh at the National Stadium in Karachi in the second round. In Nairobi, Kenya in 1953, he defeated Mahinder Singh. Aslam is best remembered for defeating the European Heavyweight Champion and former World Champion, Bert Assirati in Bombay, India on 3 June 1954.

Teaming with Tenryu and Atsushi Onita, he won the "Super Battle of 6 Men" tournament. He returned to Wrestle Association R in December 1994, winning a round robin challenge match at the WAR MEGA-POWER event. In 1964, a 10-foot wire and post fence was erected around the main pitch. In 1965, the toolshed and the original scoreboard was erected at the road end and it took about £9000 to transform the pitch. The main playing pitch was officially opened on 12 August 1965 when the Kilkenny Senior Hurling team played a challenge match against Waterford. The game was refereed by Tommy Foran and the Kilkenny team featured Piltown's Ned Power (Brenor).

His first match in the WWF (now WWE) was against Paul Diamond on September 21, 1990. In December 1990, Rhodes defeated Ted DiBiase in a televised ten-minute challenge match. On January 19, 1991, at the Royal Rumble, Rhodes and his father Dusty lost to Ted DiBiase and Virgil in a tag team bout, and both left immediately after.
Bruce first rode Speedway when he was 16 at Irwindale Raceway on the American west-coast. From novice status, he quickly established himself in the US National Championships, twice finishing in the top three positions. In 1976 he toured Israel and in 1977 Australia and New Zealand, before being lured to Cradley Heath Heathens in 1978 by Dan McCormick and Derek Pugh. On his Dudley Wood debut against Sheffield in a challenge match, he notched just a single point.

In December 2014, he won the Challenge Match against Romain Édouard by 4–2; it was a six-game match held concurrently with the London Chess Classic. The 1896 Manitoba Hockey Association season was a series of five games contested by the senior ice hockey teams of Winnipeg Victorias and the Winnipeg Hockey Club. During the season, on February 14 the Victorias played a Stanley Cup challenge match in Montreal, defeating the Montreal Victorias. Winnipeg won 2–0 to win the Cup. This was the first time the Stanley Cup champion was from a league other than the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada.
At the time of the 1948 Olympics he was a medical student at University College Dublin and was attached to the Mater Private Hospital in Dublin. In January 1948 he played for the hospital football team in a challenge match against Belfast's Mater Infirmorum Hospital at Celtic Park. At the time of the Olympics, McLoughlin is listed as a UCD player. On 26 July 1948 he played as an inside-right for Ireland at the 1948 Olympic Football Tournament.
Players now return to their hometown teams or will play for local sides Tayforth Camanachd and Aberdour Shinty Club. 2011 saw a transition period for the club and the resurrection of the yearly challenge match with Trinity College where the Scottish and Irish capital sides play each other at the start of the year in a shinty/hurling match. The trip in 2011 proved so successful that a yearly tour to Dublin is now undertaken and eagerly anticipated.

Built in 1971, the stadium seats 8,500 and is home to the varsity football team. In August 2013, Rangers teammate David Templeton expressed his surprise at the omission of Wallace from the Scotland squad for the special challenge match with England. Manager Ally McCoist urged Wallace to use being overlooked for the international at Wembley as motivation to push into future Scotland squads. Walters played 129 games for South Sydney, 58 matches for Eastern Suburbs and 5 games for Manly.
David Royce Ayliffe (born 1 January 1956) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. An Australian international and New South Wales State of Origin representative, he played for and captained the Eastern Suburbs club. Ayliffe also played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs club. During the 1976 NSWRFL season, Brass played in the forwards, helping Eastern Suburbs to victory in their unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against British champions St. Helens in Sydney.
After a successful amalgamation the clubs resources they then went onto win the Yorkshire Cup for the first time beating Shipley 11–5 in the final. The club also won the league competition and beat the rest of the league 26–8 in a challenge match. Rovers applied to join the Northern Union and played their first match under the new code in 1897–98. Rovers were elected into the inaugural Yorkshire Second competition in 1898–99 winning all 17 matches.

Kinnear gained his one and only Scotland cap in an international challenge match against Czechoslovakia on 8 February 1937, in which he scored. With the outbreak of the Second World War, Kinnear served with the British Army in the Army Physical Training Corps and was to leave Rangers after the war in May 1946. During his spell with the club he made 109 competitive appearances and scored 32 goals. He won two Scottish league championships, one Glasgow Cup and one Charity Cup.

A football match between the two islands to commemorate the game that featured in the series. Former Republic of Ireland footballers Tony Cascarino and John Aldridge were opposing captains, whilst celebrity referee Pierluigi Collina sailed to Inis Mór to referee the one-off tie. The match took place on the beach on the final day of the festival.

However, the Raiders lost this game, resulting in widespread criticism and the team's entrenchment as wooden spoon favourites. Frederick Leopold Prime (19 November 1884 - 21 May 1923) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played two first-class matches for Auckland in 1907/08. In Auckland cricket Leo Prime was regarded as "a brilliant field and a solid and forceful batsman", as well as a useful bowler and wicket-keeper. On his first- class debut he was a member of the Auckland team that won the first-ever challenge match for the Plunket Shield when they beat Canterbury in December 1907.

The Bears won the game, 23–0, and claimed that they deserved the NFL championship; they cited as precedent the 1921 championship decision (which the Bears had won over the Buffalo All-Americans) that declared there was no such thing as an exhibition game. However, the issue wasn't settled until the owners' meeting in January, when the owners voted for Cleveland to take the title.
The 1976 World Club Challenge was an unofficial trial of what would later become the World Club Challenge concept, with the 1975 NSWRFL season's premiers, Eastern Suburbs hosting the 1975–76 Northern Rugby Football League season's Premiership and Challenge Cup winners St. Helens. The one-off challenge match was played on 29 June, right in the middle of the 1976 NSWRFL season, at the Sydney Cricket Ground before a crowd of 26,856.HighBeam The next game of its kind would not be played until 1987.
The NACA was careful to include an athlete from Northern Ireland to assert its all-island jurisdiction. The English AAA offered to pay the expenses of hammer thrower Bill Britton on condition that he and Pat O'Callaghan take part in a British Empire athletics team to compete in a challenge match against the United States immediately after the Empire Games. In 1982 the ground was closed for a refurbishment costing £150,000. It was reopened in the GAA's centenary year, 1984, with a challenge match between the Armagh and Dublin county teams. He also played in two editions of the Glasgow Football Association's annual challenge match against Sheffield.

In 1979 Cunningham was still a member of the Cork minor hurling team when he joined the county senior panel. He made his senior debut in May 1980, lining out against Kilkenny in a challenge match. Cunningham replaced Timmy Murphy as Cork's first-choice goalkeeper the following year and remained an ever-present fixture for the best part of twenty years. In 1981 Cunningham enjoyed his first major success at senior level when he won a National Hurling League medal following a victory over Offaly.

After the WCC victory, Waqa injured his hand on a piece of glass in a hotel room incident missed first 8 weeks of the 2013 season. Waqa played in 22 matches and scored 12 tries for the Storm in the 2013 NRL season. Waqa was named in the Fiji squad for the 2013 World Cup.

Since 1967, there has been a Peter Craven Memorial meeting held intermittently at the Belle Vue Stadium in honour of his memory. Winners of the Memorial have included World Champions Ivan Mauger (the inaugural winner), Ole Olsen, Peter Collins, Greg Hancock, Jason Crump and Chris Morton His gravestone stands in West Derby Cemetery in Liverpool.
Sergeant Percivale St-Helier LeSueur (November 21, 1881 – January 27, 1962) was a Canadian senior and professional ice hockey goaltender. He was a member of the Smiths Falls Seniors for three years, with whom his performance in a 1906 Stanley Cup challenge series attracted the attention of his opponents, the Ottawa Silver Seven. Although his team lost the series, LeSueur excelled in goal, keeping the games close. Nine days after the defeat, he joined the Silver Seven and played in a challenge match against the Montreal Wanderers.
During this time, Breezango began to refer themselves as "Fashion Police". At WrestleMania 33, Breeze took part in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which he failed to win. On the April 25, 2017 episode of SmackDown Live, Breezango defeated The Ascension in a Beat the Clock challenge match, becoming number one contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Jordan would be saved from an attack from the trio after The Hardy Boyz arrived and assisted Jordan. This would lead to a six-man tag team match at SummerSlam, where Jordan and The Hardy Boyz were defeated by The Miz and The Miztourage. On the September 18 episode of Raw, Jordan would win a Six-Pack Challenge match to become number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz. On the first of June, the previous season's premiers, the Broncos played in the 1994 World Club Challenge match in Brisbane against British champions Wigan. Wigan defeated the Broncos 20 to 14 at ANZ Stadium in front of 54,220 spectators. On 14 July the North Sydney Bears were fined $87,000 for breaching the salary cap. In total, twenty-two regular season rounds were played from March till August, resulting in a top five of Canterbury- Bankstown, North Sydney, Canberra, Manly-Warringah and Brisbane who went on to battle it out in the finals.
On November 2, Eddy defeated "The Prince of Persia" Rahim Ali in Cornwall; and later that night, lost to Jeremy Prophet in a match for the CWA Internet-TV Championship. After the match, Eddy kissed Prophet's valet Persephony. At a show for the IWS the next night, Eddy reunited with his tag team partner LuFisto but lost to Shayne Hawke and eXeSs. Several days later at an event for Capital City Championship Combat, Eddy challenged eXeSs to a special "SeXXXy Eddy Challenge" match and lost to his rival.
A strike in 1909 hastened the conversion to the professional code and the club was formed in New Lambton, though no Rebels players had joined. Playing in red and green, their first match was on 14 May 1910 where they lost to South Newcastle 18–0. They withdrew from the competition midyear. The club has been known as the Rosellas since at least 1915, where it is recorded in a report on a challenge match where they as champions played Balmain as champions of the Sydney premiership that year and won 35–5.
During the season, defending champions Wigan hosted NSWRL champions, the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in the 1987 World Club Challenge match. Wigan were World Club Champions for the first time when they beat Manly-Warringah 8-2 at Central Park, Wigan on 7 Oct 1987 before a crowd of 36,895 The Stones Bitter League Champions were Widnes for the second time in their history, exactly ten years after their first. Leigh, Swinton and Hunslet were relegated. The Challenge Cup winners were Wigan who beat Halifax 32-12 in the final.
Mullins was a representative of City Firsts and New South Wales, though injuries suffered at the wrong times during his career prevented him from representing his country. In a trial for World Cup selection in 1971, Mullins suffered a broken jaw and again, in 1973 when he was 'king hit' in a game against Manly-Warringah costing him any chance of being selected to the 1973 Kangaroo tour. During the 1976 NSWRFL season, Mullins played as a for Eastern Suburbs in their unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against British champions St. Helens in Sydney.
Nicol represented Scotland at Under 16's level in a Challenge Match against Wales in November 2009. She also went on to play seven times for Scotland's Under 17's and got on the score sheet in a 5–0 win over Wales in April 2012. Her international career continued and she also went on to make a number of appearances for Scotland at Under 19 level. Notable matches she has been involved in at this level are a 7–3 win over Italy, and a 14–1 victory against Georgia.
League match, and one round off for the International Lacrosse tournament, which was then a major sport. Finals consisted of the Minor Premiers playing the third side and the second side playing the fourth side. The winners of these games then played to decide the Premiership, with the proviso that if the ultimate winner was not the Minor Premiers, then a final challenge match could be played. During the three years 1908-1910, the Club existed in name only and, except for the annual match against Melbourne University, did not compete at all.
Karigane, in the meantime, had set up his rival Kiseisha organisation (1924). The Yomiuri Shimbun planned a challenge match between the two camps. This was the setting for the 1926 showdown with Karigane (the "group-capturing masterpiece"), perhaps the most anthologised game of modern times. Edward Lasker in his book Go and Go Moku wrote: :... probably one of the most beautiful games on record ... [after White's 41st move] The way Karigane boldly develops a position and finally cuts at e4 is most ingenious; it took a Hon'inbō to refute his plan.
The same year, he fought a challenge match against Genshin Eguchi from the Kyushin-ryū, a rival faction from Higo Province. Nakamura won the match, breaking Eguchi's arm with an armbar, but the scuffle was so brutal that Eguchi tried to escape the hold by gruesomely biting Nakamura's leg. The bout was witnessed by Masaaki Samura from Takeuchi Santo-ryū, another rival school, and this ensured a bout between Nakamura and him the next year. The challenge happened at the dojo of Genshin's older brother Yamon, also in Kumamoto.
Fielden played at and scored two tries in the Bradford Bulls' 30–10 victory. Fielden won numerous honours and trophies while at Bradford Bulls, with a trademark aggressive style that saw him establish a reputation as one of the best and most feared front-rowers in the world. In February 2006 he won his last trophy with Bradford Bulls, being named Man-of-the-Match and scoring two tries in the World Club Challenge match against Wests Tigers. Many claimed following this match that Stuart was indeed the best prop in the world.
André set out for revenge and accepted Studd's challenge to a "$15,000 Bodyslam Challenge" match at the first WrestleMania, whereby if Andre failed to slam Studd before the time limit (or Studd managed to slam Andre), André would be forced to retire from wrestling. André dominated their Wrestlemania match at Madison Square Garden and won by slamming Studd at 5:54. After WrestleMania, Studd formed an alliance with fellow Heenan Family member, King Kong Bundy. The two attacked André at a WWF TV card in Toronto in the summer of 1985, injuring Andre's sternum.
In 1985, an Edinburgh select team composing of players from Hearts, Hibs and Meadowbank Thistle played Bayern Munich in a "Festival Cup" challenge match at Tynecastle. The Festival Cup was reintroduced in 2003, to tie in with the annual Edinburgh Festival. The local media speculated that clubs from cities twinned with Edinburgh, including Bayern Munich and Dynamo Kiev, would be invited to participate in an annual Edinburgh tournament. Eventually, the clubs settled for playing a single derby match on the last Saturday before the start of the 2003–04 Scottish Premier League season.
In July 2009, it was announced that Alibec signed a four- year contract with Italian club Inter Milan. On 19 May 2010, Alibec scored a goal in each half to give Inter victory over Bayern Munich in the UEFA Under-18 Challenge match, part of UEFA Grassroots Day. Alibec made his Serie A debut on 21 November 2010, coming on as a 68th-minute substitute for Jonathan Biabiany in a 1–2 defeat to Chievo Verona. He was in rich form in the Campionato Primavera Girone B after scoring eight goals in nine games.
Similarly, his match with Chase Dakota at the 9th annual CWF Rumble also ended in a draw. On November 14, 2009 he beat Shane Phoenix in a Five Minute Challenge match at an interpromotional "Pro Wrestling International" event co-hosted by CWF Mid- Atlantic, Premier Wrestling Showcase, and Rider's Championship Wrestling. He would appear twice more in CWF Mid Atlantic during the next year. The first being New Year's Knockout on January 16, 2010, defeating T.J. Mack, and CWF Rumble on October 16, 2010, where he and Jimmy Parker fought to a no-contest.
Auckland defeated Canterbury by an innings in the first challenge match in December 1907.R.T. Brittenden, Great Days in New Zealand Cricket, A.H. & A.W. Reed, Wellington, 1958, pp. 33–38. A proposal in 1912 that the Shield should be decided by an inter-provincial tournament rather than by the challenge system was rejected as impracticable at the time. However, starting with the 1921–22 season, the four principal teams (minus Hawke's Bay, which lost first-class status) played each other in a single round-robin series of matches.
Juha was originally a croupier. He worked as a dealer for RAY in Finland but never dealt poker. He made a name for himself in the first World Poker Tour (WPT) event in Aruba, where he eliminated Kathy Liebert on the way to defeating professional player Phil Gordon in a heads-up challenge match. He has since made two other WPT final tables, with a 4th-place finish in the Season 1 Battle of Champions and a 2nd-place finish to England's Roland De Wolfe in the Grand Prix de Paris 2005 event.
The eight teams played in two groups of four, with the winners of each group proceeding to the final which was played between Ireland and Canada at Grace Road in Leicester. The game was scheduled for 22 to 25 May 2007, but in the event Ireland won inside two days. All teams without Test status which qualified for the 2007 Cricket World Cup participated, along with the United Arab Emirates and the winner of the challenge match between Namibia and Nepal (runners-up in Africa and Asia in the 2005 edition).
Success in the Grand Final earned them another World Club Challenge match against Melbourne Storm, in which they were defeated. Leeds would ultimately fail to win any silverware in 2013, however they did end their long run without a Challenge Cup final win by beating Castleford Tigers at Wembley in the 2014 final. In March 2014, it was announced that Leeds would share a partnership with the Atlanta Rhinos, who play in the USA Rugby League. Leeds stated they would help bring a professional approach to the Atlanta club by sharing information and playing talent.
A friendship was formed with St Judes GAA in 2012 where the club travelled to Templeogue for a shinty/hurling challenge match. The club shall now play St Judes and Trinity in alternate years in the Irish capital, alongside St. Brigid's. The successful ladies' side of the 2000s was instrumental in the foundation of Forth Camanachd and subsequent developments in ladies shinty in the area, with many transferring to Aberdour when Forth folded. In 2012, the club won the Littlejohn for the first time in 26 years, defeating Glasgow University 1-0 in the final.
Usually the matches were fairly local, against neighbouring counties, rather than against distant teams, and matches were often played in batches so that amateur players could time their holidays from work to take part in several games over a period of a week or two. When they competed, the first-class county second elevens often played many more games. The championship was decided by the average points gained per game. If the second-placed side had not met the leading team, under Rule 16 a challenge match could be played.
A challenge is a request made to the holder of a competitive title for a match between champion and challenger, the winner of which will acquire or retain the title. In some cases the champion has the right to refuse a challenge; in others, this results in forfeiting the title. The challenge system derives from duelling and its code of honour. While many competitive sports use some form of tournament to determine champions, a challenge match is the normal way of deciding professional boxing titles and the World Chess Championship.
AlphaGo versus Lee Sedol, also known as the Google DeepMind Challenge Match, was a five-game Go match between 18-time world champion Lee Sedol and AlphaGo, a computer Go program developed by Google DeepMind, played in Seoul, South Korea between the 9th and 15th of March 2016. AlphaGo won all but the fourth game; all games were won by resignation. The match has been compared with the historic chess match between Deep Blue and Garry Kasparov in 1997. The winner of the match was slated to win $1 million.
Hibs finished fourth in the 1964–65 league season (curiously ahead of both halves of the Old Firm) and knocked out Rangers on the way to the Scottish Cup semi finals (again Dunfermline would prove Martin's nemesis in this competition). Hibs played Real Madrid in a challenge match at Easter Road and handed their guests a 2–0 defeat. Mercilessly against ex club Alloa he scored four goals in an 11–2 League Cup thrashing. He also hit four in a first division game against his other former side, Queen of the South.
Kickham Park, Dundrum was officially reopened on Sunday 11 May 2008. The latest development of the facilities commenced in 1999 with the purchase of the wooded area adjacent to the field, This area was then cleared to facilitate a second pitch, We built two new dressing rooms and extended the facilities of the clubhouse. The final part of the development was the completion of the spectator stand and hurling wall. All the facilities looked magnificent on 11 May 2008, when Tipperary played Limerick in a senior Hurling challenge match to mark the occasion.

Almost exactly a year later in March 2009, Sylvia "breached team expectations by being out late on Sunday evening" and was suspended by the club's leadership group five days later for the NAB Challenge match against the Western Bulldogs. In 2009, Sylvia talked openly about his off-field problems and behaviour and how he nearly gave up football because of injury.
McGill next won a championship in 1938. The team tied for the regular season 8–1 with Western after losing their final regular- season game to Western. The teams played off for the championship, won 9–0 by McGill, with all the scoring from kicker Herb Westman, who kicked a school record nine punt singles. The Redmen would not win another title until 1960, when they won the Yates Cup, against Queen's University of Kingston, then defeated the Canada West champion Alberta Golden Bears in a challenge match for an unofficial national championship (Churchill Bowl).
In late 2001, the World Wrestling Federation expressed interest in Begnaud, and she was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling for six months to train. Under the new ring name Jazz, she signed a two-year contract with WWF. She made her debut in the company as a villain on the Survivor Series pay-per-view during a Six-Pack Challenge match for the WWF Women's Championship, which had been vacated by Chyna after her departure from the company. Ultimately, Trish Stratus was the winner for the match and the championship.
Neville faced former tag partner Bo Dallas for the title on the next episode and won by countout, which meant that the title did not change hands. Two episodes later, Neville faced Dallas again for the title in a lumberjack match, but lost when lumberjack Tyler Breeze interfered. Neville once again became number one contender after Dallas failed to defeat Neville in a beat-the-clock challenge match on the 22 January episode of NXT that arose due to Dallas' boasting. At NXT Arrival, Neville won the NXT Championship from Dallas in a ladder match.
On the June 11 episode of Raw, Lashley was drafted from the ECW brand to the Raw brand as part of the 2007 WWE draft. As a result of the move, Lashley was stripped of the ECW World Championship by Vince McMahon. He took place in a challenge match against Mick Foley, Randy Orton, King Booker and John Cena for the WWE Championship at Vengeance: Night of Champions which Cena won to retain the WWE Championship. Lashley became the number one contender for the WWE Championship by winning the "Beat the Clock" challenge on July 2 episode of Raw.
Archibald Edward Wones Compston (1893 – 8 August 1962) was an English professional golfer. Through the 1920s he built a reputation as a formidable match play golfer, in an era when many professionals made more money from "challenge" matches against fellow pros, or wealthy amateurs, than from tournament golf. Compston was born in Wolverhampton. Famously, in 1928, Compston - who had won the British PGA Matchplay Championship in 1925 and 1927 - faced Walter Hagen, who had won the American PGA Championship at match play in the previous four years, in a 72-hole challenge match, and defeated the American 18 & 17\.
The Auburn High wrestling program was also the source of historic jurisprudence in Alabama case law on the topic of State–agent immunity. In 2000, then–coach Michael Douglas wrestled a "challenge match" with student Jake Giambrone, resulting in Giambrone suffering a severe spinal cord injury which left him quadriplegic. The following year, Giambrone's family sued Douglas for negligence. Douglas, however, claimed "State–agent immunity"—that as the injury occurred during Douglas's duties as an agent of the state of Alabama in his capacity as coach, he was immune from litigation under the principle of sovereign immunity.
On 7 January 2003, Coleman made his first appearance for the Cork senior hurling team as goalkeeper in a 4-12 to 1-07 defeat of Blackrock in a challenge match at Páirc Uí Rinn. He was later added to the Cork panel for the subsequent National League and Munster Championship campaigns. On 29 June 2003, Coleman won his first Munster medal as a non-playing substitute following Cork's 3-16 to 3-12 defeat of Waterford. Coleman made his first competitive appearance for Cork on 28 March 2004 in a 2-17 to 1-20 National League game against Tipperary.
The Bummobile is the inspiration for the Hobo Day Gallery located in the northwest corner of the Student Union. The fully restored Bummobile is the centerpiece of the gallery which includes other Hobo Day memorabilia. The Hobo Day Committee helped develop the vision for the Hobo Day Gallery, which serves as a living gallery for students, alumni and visitors to reconnect and to share time-honored traditions of the past. The Class of 1958 took a leadership role in private fundraising for the project and an anonymous member of the Class of 1958 pledged $75,000 as a challenge match to spur donations.
A fullback, Abley first played in that position for Port in a "Challenge match" in Broken Hill at the end of his debut season and after impressing was kept there for the remainder of his career. He was a member of the famed Port team which won six premierships in succession from 1954 to 1959, an Australian record. Abley was a regular South Australian interstate representative and played a total of 23 games for his state. On three occasions Abley was selected as an All-Australian for his performances at the carnivals, in 1956, 1958 and 1961.
Murphy was involved with Ulster at under-age level. He was identified at the age of 16 and added to a Regional Development Squad. In 2010, Murphy was selected as part of a combined team with Leinster for a challenge match against a combined Connacht/Munster side, the first ever game at the newly built Aviva Stadium. Murphy signed to an Ulster academy contract for the 2011–12 season. During his time in the academy he played for the province's second tier side, the Ulster Ravens, playing twice in the 2013–14 British and Irish Cup.
The Stevenage Sharks were a semi-professional English ice hockey team based in Stevenage that played the 1992/93 season. Their home ice was the Stevenage Ice Bowl. Stevenage teams had played non-import hockey from the rink's opening in 1988 until 1992. Their first official home game as an import league team came on Wednesday 2 September 1992, when they played host to Toronto Buds in an International challenge match, losing 10–6 to their Canadian visitors. The Stevenage Sharks debuted in competitive action on Saturday 12 September 1992 in front of over 1,200 fans.
He competed in the U.S. Open twenty-two times and had eight top ten finishes. McLeod won several more professional tournaments: the 1909 and 1920 North and South Open at Pinehurst, the 1912 Shawnee Open, the 1924 St. Petersburg Open and the 1927 Maryland Open. In 1919 he was runner up to Jim Barnes in the PGA Championship. He took part in both the 1921 challenge match between teams of U.S based and British based professionals at Gleneagles, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, and in the follow-up 1926 match which was the immediate precursor of the first Ryder Cup match in 1927.
During the 1976 season, Mayes played in Easts victory in their unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against reigning British champions St. Helens at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With Junee gone for good, he fought with Hastings for a first grade spot in 1977 before returning to Newcastle where he captained the Newcastle representative team to a win over New Zealand in 1978. In all Mayes played 134 first grade games for 71 tries and three field goals (two two-point and one one-point). In 1975 he was the season's leading try-scorer with sixteen.
On 27 January, Keary re-signed with the Rabbitohs on a 1-year contract. On 23 February, he played for the Rabbitohs in the 2015 World Club Challenge match against 2014 Super League Grand Final premiers St. Helens, playing at five-eighth and scoring a try in the Rabbitohs' 39-0 win at Langtree Park. In April, he was selected for the New South Wales City team for the annual City vs Country Origin match, but withdrew due to a foot injury. He finished off the 2015 season having played in 24 matches and scoring 4 tries for the Rabbitohs.
On the September 23, 1999 edition of SmackDown!, however, McMahon decided to place Triple H in a gauntlet series of matches against the other five competitors in the match. He would have to wrestle Big Show in a Chokeslam Challenge match, Kane in an inferno Match, Undertaker in a casket match, Mankind in a Boiler Room Brawl, and The Rock in a Brahma Bull Rope match, and if he failed to win three of the five matches, he would be out of the match. Triple H lost the first match due to his inability to lift the massive Big Show.
The 2013 World Snooker Championship was held between 20 April and 6 May 2013 in Sheffield, England. It was the last of 11 rankings events in the 2012-13 snooker season on the World Snooker Tour. The tournament featured a 32-player main draw that took place at the Crucible Theatre and a 92-player qualifying draw that was played on 6 and 11 April 2015 at the English Institute of Sport. This was the 45th successive world championship to be contested using the knockout format after reverting from a challenge match system in the 1960s.
In 1985 Tom stepped down as Chieftain of the Camanachd Association but was honoured with the position of Freeman of Inverness for his services to the local Community. In 1987 the Inverness Shinty Club celebrated its Centenary. On Saturday 15 August 1987 a veteran's challenge match between Inverness and Glenurquhart was played followed by one between Inverness and Oban Camanachd and a dinner was held in the Rannoch Lodge Hotel that evening to mark the club's centenary. The senior team (featured right) was beaten 2–1 by Glenurquhart and the Veteran's team was heavily beaten by a much younger Oban side.
The first challenge match was played on August 2, 1999 between Tiger Woods and David Duval, then world number 2 and also a client of IMG. In order for the match to be played in daylight and still be shown live during prime time Eastern Standard Time, it was held in the West, at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. Sherwood paid $1,000,000 to host the event, which was dubbed the Showdown at Sherwood. The match was eagerly anticipated as a head to head between the two leading players at the time, and contested over 18 holes in a matchplay format.
In the Roosters 2014 World Club Challenge match against 2013 Super League champions the Wigan Warriors, Nu’uausala played at in the Roosters 36-14 victory SFS. In Round 25 against the Melbourne Storm at SFS, Nu’uausala played up his 150th NRL career match in the Roosters 24-12 win. Nu’uausala finished off the 2014 NRL season with him playing in 26 matches and scoring a try for the Roosters. On 3 December 2014, Nu'uausala signed a three-year contract with the Canberra Raiders starting in 2015 after being released from the final year of his Roosters contract.

Most VFL finals systems utilised until 1930 comprised a short finals system, usually a simple knock out tournament ending with a match called the 'final'; if the 'final' was not won by the home-and-away season's minor premiers, then the minor premiers had the right to challenge the winner of the 'final' to a playoff match for the premiership. At the time, it was only this challenge match, if played, which was known as the grand final; however, all 'final' matches which decided the premiership have since retrospectively been considered grand finals.
After having represented the United States on age-grade level teams (see sections below), De Haas signed an academy contract with South African provincial union the in July 2017. He played for the side in the 2017 Under-19 Provincial Championship, and also played for university side the in the 2018 Varsity Cup, before making his first class debut in South African domestic competition, for the in their 2018 Rugby Challenge match against the . In May 2018, the Free State Cheetahs announced that he signed a contract with the – the union's Pro14 team – until the end of October 2020.
Higgins also made the first 16-red clearance (in a challenge match in 1976); it was a break of 146 (with the brown as the first "red", and 16 colours: 1 green, 5 pinks and 10 blacks). In 2011, Event 8 of the Players Tour Championship was renamed as the Alex Higgins International Trophy. In 2016, WPBSA chairman Barry Hearn announced that the trophy for the new Northern Ireland Open tournament would be named after Higgins. Higgins' professional rivalry with Steve Davis was portrayed in a 2016 BBC feature film entitled The Rack Pack, in which he was played by Luke Treadaway.
Fairfax represented both Sydney and NSW during his career but a broken leg suffered during the height of his career in the 1975 season probably prevented him from playing for Australia also in that rugby code. During the 1976 NSWRFL season, Fairfax played at fullback in the unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against British champions St. Helens in Sydney. Fairfax played the final season of his career - 1981, with the South Sydney club and went on to coach the Snowy River Bears in Group 16. Fairfax had an unsuccessful stint in coaching at the Eastern Suburbs Roosters in 1989 and 1990.
Nakamura defeated Stripunsky in two straight rapidplay playoff games to claim the title and become the youngest national champion since Fischer. Nakamura finished the tournament without a loss and, in the seventh round, defeated grandmaster Gregory Kaidanov, then the nation's top-ranked player. Following that victory, Nakamura played a challenge match dubbed the "Duelo de Jóvenes Prodigios" in Mexico against Ukrainian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin and defeated his fellow prodigy by 4½–1½. In November and December 2005, Nakamura competed in the FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, seeded 28th (of 128 players) but failed to advance beyond the first round.
Karjakin won the Chess World Cup 2015 in dramatic fashion after going down 0-2 to former World Cup Champion Peter Svidler, eventually winning 6-4 in blitz tiebreaks. By finishing in the final two, Karjakin qualified, along with Svidler, for the 2016 Candidates Tournament. In the same year, he took part in the Russia-China Challenge Match. The first part of the event took place from 29 July to 1 August in the Heixiazi Island, where Karjakin sequentially knocked out four of the five members of the Chinese team: Wei Yi, Ding Liren, Ni Hua and Yu Yangyi.
In November 2010, the Witches moved down to the Premier League (second tier). In 2011, the Witches finished in third place in the final Premier League table and won the Premier League Four-Team Championship staged at Leicester. During the winter of 2011/12, Director of Speedway Chris Louis brought in Australians Rohan Tungate and Cameron Heeps. In the first meeting of the 2012 season—a challenge match with Rye House at Foxhall—both Taylor Poole (broken left arm) and Morten Risager (damaged lower vertebrae) were ruled out, and Ipswich asset Leigh Lanham re-joined the club as a replacement for Risager.
He started his second game for his county against Kerry in a challenge match held in London in 1992. Following the retirement of Walsh the previous year, Callaghan made his championship debut against Antrim in 1997. His championship career was restricted to three appearances; Tony Blake replaced him when Callaghan sustained a groin injury in his final championship match, a 1–11 to 0–11 win against Antrim in 1998. Despite being kept on the bench by Walsh for so many years, as of 2012, Callaghan and Walsh were close and had kept in contact with each other.

By contrast, the Old Aloysians club was formed in 1955 for the sole purpose of undertaking a challenge match against the extremely successful Saint Aloysius' College 1st XV. The unexpected success of this venture resulted in a decision to seek regular fixtures which led to a continuing upsurge in interest and the inevitable and rapid expansion of the F.P. Club. The first fixture was against Hutchesons' Grammar FP RFC., coincident with the invitation from Hutchesons' Grammar School to Saint Aloysius' College 1st XV to undertake regular fixtures. This long standing friendship led to the amalgamation in season 1990–91.
Kilcar were the defending champions after they defeated Naomh Conaill of Glenties 0-7 to 0-4 in the 2017 final. However, the club had to play the competition without two of its county stars, Patrick McBrearty and Ryan McHugh. On 26 September 2018, it was announced that McHugh had accepted medical advice and would be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to concussion. His injury came while playing for his club in a challenge match against Dublin champions St Vincents in Cavan in late August 2018 - he received a blow to the head during that match.
On 7 January 2007, Halbert made his first appearance for the Cork senior hurling team as a substitute in a 1-21 to 2-10 defeat of University College Cork in a challenge match at the Mardyke Sports Ground. He played no part in Cork's subsequent National Hurling League campaign, however, his club form earned him a call up to the Cork team as a replacement for the injured Paudie O'Sullivan for the Munster Championship. Halbert remained as an unused substitute for the championship and was released from the panel at the end of the season.
Pulman won three of the first five frames on the final afternoon to win the match 37–28. The remaining eight dead frames were played, the final score being 39–34. This was the last challenge match, as the event reverted to a traditional tournament for the 1969 World Snooker Championship, and except for a round-robin stage at the 1971 World Snooker Championship, the event has been played as a single-elimination tournament since. Pulman had been touring snooker clubs as promotional work for the tobacco brand John Player, and the company had sponsored his match against Charlton.
Rovers won the second game 1–0, courtesy of a penalty kick scored by a young player who went on to become a League of Ireland legend, Bob Fullam. This turn of events proved all the more heartbreaking for Wanderers as Rovers progressed to the final, only losing out to St. James' Gate after a replay. Tipperary United were also a well established club of the era, and enjoyed significant success up to the wartime period. In 1947, a group of local football people established St. Michael's having received a letter from a Limerick party requesting a challenge match.
500 season in 1986 - the team began to gel as a true unit in 1987. After monumental victories over all PRU challengers - GU secured the regular season PRU championship in 1987 and dropped a 13-10 decision to Salisbury State in the league challenge match championship. Building on success - the team began to roll with undefeated season play in 1989 under the guidance of president / captain Doug Brown and PRU all-star Dan Kirk. The 1990 team featured 5 PRU all-stars and took advantage of Springbok coaching expertise from Heyn van Rooyen and Theo van Wyk.
With a large disparity between the top two teams and the rest of the League, the Aces opted out of the playoffs and welcomed Czech visitors, HC Kladnokavanny who were 10-5 winners of a challenge match. In 1998-99, Aces finished second in the League behind a stronger Billingham Eagles team although after two fairly heavy defeats by the Eagles, Aces were never close enough to challenge for the title. The team had been bolstered late on after Simon Mills and Tim Dempsey left Blackburn to return home. The season finished with a disappointing third place in the Northern playoff group after two early close defeats by Billingham.
Hearts Wilson Cup Results, London Hearts Supporters Club Initially intended to be a trophy for the winner of the annual New Year Scottish Football League fixture between the clubs before becoming a challenge match in its own right, on a few occasions the game was played as part of a 'double header', also counting for the East of Scotland Shield. In May 1919 the 2nd leg of the Shield counted as the Wilson Cup final replay. In May 1920 the Shield replay counted as the final of the Wilson Cup and in 1921 it counted as the semi-final of the Shield as well.
A hamstring tear also forced Folan out of the Republic's squad for games against Ecuador and Bolivia in May 2007. In October 2008, under new manager Giovanni Trapattoni, Folan was one of several uncapped players selected to play for a Republic of Ireland XI in a challenge match against Nottingham Forest, scoring the first goal in a 2–0 win. He was added to the squad for the subsequent 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Cyprus and appeared as an injury-time substitute. He was brought on as a substitute against Italy in the World Cup qualifiers, and set up the equalising goal scored by Robbie Keane in the 87th minute.
Prior to the current position, Campbell was involved in surveillance projects related to petroleum production, disease outbreak, and financial data. In earlier work, Campbell was a member of the teams that developed chess machines: HiTech and a project to culminate in Deep Blue, the latter being the first computer to defeat the reigning world chess champion, Garry Kasparov, in a challenge match, in 1997. Campbell visited UMBC for a speech called "IBM's Deep Blue: Ten Years After" on February 5, 2007.
The Abbey Stadium, the home of Swindon Robins The formation of the club followed the sport's prehistory in the town at the now-demolished Gorse Hill Aerodrome, where dirt track racing had taken place since 1928. The birth of the Robins was a product of the partnership of Bristol speedway manager Reg Witcomb and businessman Bert Hearse. Under their direction, a cinder track was built. The first meeting, a non-league home challenge match, took place on 23 July 1949 against future rivals Oxford, and an official attendance figure of 8,000 was given, although employees of the club believe that 10,000 would be closer to the truth.
It is unknown how the feud started, but Dougal once mentions a "Scrabble fiasco" (where Father Byrne manages to get all of his words to spell "useless priest, can't say Mass"). The feud has led to various ill-judged escapades, usually after Dick has telephoned Ted to tease him for some inadequacy or taunt him for some fault. These include fooling him on the phone into thinking that Dick had sincerely believed Ted's Eurovision song would be good, and winning the annual "All- Priests Five-a-Side Over-75s Indoor Football Challenge Match." However, there are also instances where Ted gets the better of Dick.
In the fall of 1998, he also wrestled midget wrestler Sweetie Pop in a special challenge match in Raleigh. An active manager in OMEGA, Mosorjak managed Christian York to the OMEGA Junior Heavyweight Championship fought in a four-way match involving Joey Matthews, Caprice Coleman and Shannon Moore. He managed many of these younger stars in his own promotion, most notably, when Shane Helms defeated Otto Schwanz for the SCW title on November 29, 1999, in Raleigh. Mosorjak's cross-promotional activities with the Hardys, which included championship titles being both recognized and defended in both promotions, continued up until OMEGA's close that same year.
Ray is considered as one of Waterford GAA's most skillful and entertaining goalkeeper from 1993 to 1997, he failed to hold place in the team after 1997 after a training ground incident with manager Gerald McCarthy, losing his place in goal to Ray Whity who was subsequently substituted in the opening championship fixture with Limerick by Brendan Landers. Ray was in goal for Waterfords All-Ireland Under 21 Hurling Championship winning team in 1992. Ray was invited back onto the Waterford panel in 2002. In a challenge match he did one of his trademark clearances where he cleared a ball after chipping it over the opposing full forwards head.
Alexander Reid (9 February 1897 – 3 November 1969) was a Scottish footballer who played as an outside right, for teams including Airdrieonians, Third Lanark, Aberdeen and Preston North End. He was Aberdeen's record signing when he joined in 1925, the club having money to spend from the recent sale of Alex Jackson.Alec Reid, AFC Heritage Trust At representative level, Reid was selected for the Glasgow FA's annual challenge match against Sheffield, took part in the Home Scots v Anglo-Scots trial and was subsequently selected as a reserve for the Scotland v England international fixture, all in 1922 while playing for Third Lanark, but he never received a full cap.
A challenge match had been arranged between Scotland and the Netherlands to be played at Utrecht in May 1994. A pre-arranged fight had been organised between Dutch and Scottish hooligans so the CCS, ASC and Utility casuals all agreed a truce for this fixture. The Scottish crew met up in the Grasshopper coffee shop in Amsterdam and travelled to the game in Utrecht by train where they were met by armed Dutch police with dogs lining the station platform. The police had ordered the train doors not to be opened but this didn't stop the Hibs boys from forcing them open and the Scottish mob exiting the train.
McHugh started the final and scored a goal as Donegal secured the 2018 Ulster Senior Football Championship. He had previously started the preliminary round against Cavan (scoring a goal), the quarter-final against Derry (scoring 0–2) and the semi- final against Down (again scoring 0–2). On 26 September 2018, however, it was announced that McHugh had accepted medical advice and would be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to concussion. His injury came while playing for his club in a challenge match against Dublin champions St Vincents in Cavan in late August 2018 — he received a blow to the head during that match.

It was chosen by Science as one of the Breakthrough of the Year runners-up on 22 December 2016. At the 2017 Future of Go Summit, the Master version of AlphaGo beat Ke Jie, the number one ranked player in the world at the time, in a three-game match, after which AlphaGo was awarded professional 9-dan by the Chinese Weiqi Association. After the match between AlphaGo and Ke Jie, DeepMind retired AlphaGo, while continuing AI research in other areas.
Batley Cricket Club decided to have a rugby football side merge with them at their ground under the name Batley Cricket Athletic and Football Club. The two local rugby teams, Batley Mountaineers and Batley Athletic, played a challenge match at the cricket club's Mount Pleasant home on 23 October 1880 to determine which was the town's premier rugby side and worthy of the cricket club. Both sides claimed victory but the cricket club chose Batley Athletic to join them. The new club's first game was at home against Bradford Zingari which they won by 2 goals, 3 touchdowns, 2 dead balls and one touch goal to nil.
He sometimes played at less than his ability in order to minimize the odds he had to give to opponents. Robertson is generally regarded as being the best golfer from 1843 onwards, even after the arrival of the Park and Morris families. Robertson defeated Willie Dunn, Sr., of Musselburgh, who was generally recognized as the top player, in a grand challenge match in 1843; the two played 20 rounds over 10 days, with Robertson coming out on top. Indeed, Robertson was the first to score below 80 on the Old Course at St Andrews, which he did the year before his death, playing a guttie ball.
The 1992 World Club Challenge match was contested by the 1991–92 Rugby Football League season champions Wigan and the 1992 NSWRL season's premiers, the Brisbane Broncos. The match took place on Friday night, 30 October in England, during the 1992–93 Rugby Football League season. It was also played less than a week after the 1992 Rugby League World Cup Final (from which many players on both sides were backing up). A crowd of 17,764 turned out at Central Park, Wigan for the match which was refereed by New Zealand's Dennis Hale, the same referee as for the World Cup final one week earlier.

A friend convinced Motobu to enter a "boxing vs judo" match which was taking place. These matches were popular at the time, and often pitted a visiting foreign boxer against a jujutsu or judo man. According to an account of the fight from a 1925 King magazine article, Motobu is said to have entered into a challenge match with a foreign boxer, described as a Russian boxer or strongman.
He eventually landed in Tokyo, where he fought in 1879 a challenge match against an American wrestler at the Shibusawa Library. Although Okuda was outweighed to the point of looking like a child next to his opponent, he won the match, throwing the American down with seoi nage and tomoe nage. The same year, Okuda opened a Kitō-ryū dojo, and became a hand-to-hand instructor for several police services, among them the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. In 1884, while still a police teacher, Okuda created a personal jujutsu style, , which integrated all the knowledge from the multiple styles he knew and researched.

On September 26, 1903, a meeting of those interested in Gaelic games was held in the Foresters Hall, Carrickmacross to elect officers and to establish the club to the County Board. By coincidence it was also the Centenary of the death of Robert Emmet; the identity formerly associated with the original Carrickmacross team; it was unanimously agreed to again adopt the name of the young Irish patriot! The following officers were elected at that meeting; (Captain) Owen Sherry (Vice Captain) J Jones; (Treasurer) Joseph Connolly; (Secretary) Thomas Markey. The following month the new Emmets travelled to Kingscourt to play the local Sinn Féin team in a challenge match.
Kramnik, winner at Dortmund 2007 When Kramnik won the 2006 unification match, he also won Topalov's berth in the 2007 World Championship as the incumbent FIDE champion. The tournament, and the world championship, was won by Viswanathan Anand.
Several spots were seen between all three men which included Hardy using a grounded Anderson as leverage to execute a running leg smash on Van Dam in the ring corner, Anderson hitting a superplex off on Hardy, and Van Dam missing a Five-Star Frog Splash. All three continued back and forth in exchanging offense. However, in the end, Anderson cleared the ring of Hardy and connected with the Mic Check on Van Dam to get the pinfall victory. Out to the ring was Crimson to speak on behalf of his Open Challenge match and putting his long running winning streak on the line.
On 23 February, Burgess played for the Rabbitohs in the 2015 World Club Challenge match against 2014 Super League Grand Final premiers St. Helens, playing off the interchange bench in the 39-0 win at Langtree Park. Burgess extended his contract with the Rabbitohs to the end of the 2017 season after scoring 2 tries from his 24 appearances. Burgess scored his first international try in England's 84-4 shellacking win over France at Leigh. He then played in the end of year test series against New Zealand, appearing in all 3 matches off the interchange bench in England's 2-1 Baskerville Shield series win.
The oldest son of Wu Kung-i, he was born in Beijing, raised in Shanghai (where he was first taught t'ai chi ch'uan by his grandfather, Wu Chien-ch'uan) and spent most of his adult life teaching in Hong Kong. Wu Ta-k'uei was active in the resistance to the Japanese invasion of China, yet he later taught martial arts in Japan after the war. Wu Ta-k'uei was reputed to be a fierce fighter, and known as always ready to accept a challenge match. He is reported to have never been defeated, and to have been famous for badly injuring and taunting his opponents in those matches.
The Benson & Hedges Ireland Tournament started out as a challenge match in 1975 between Alex Higgins and John Spencer. In 1976 and 1977 the event was staged as a four-man invitational, and was replaced by the Irish Masters in 1978. Benson & Hedges continued their sponsorship with the tournament being played at Goffs, Co. Kildare. After tobacco sponsorship was outlawed in Ireland in 2000, the Irish government funded the event from 2001 and it was subsequently relocated to the Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Co. Dublin. The tournament was staged on an invitational basis for most of its existence but became a ranking tournament from the 2002/03 season.
Fenner played 14 times for Kent between 1951 and 1954, deputising for England wicket-keeper Godfrey Evans. He was awarded his Second XI county cap in 1952 and played as a batsman at times for the Second XI, captaining the side in the 1952 Minor Counties Championship Challenge Match. He made 19 first-class appearances for Combined Services until 1964 and played his final match for the RAF team in 1969 as a Squadron Leader. He captained both the Combined Services and RAF teams on occasions and kept wicket to bowlers such as Fred Trueman, Ray Illingworth and Fred Titmus who played for services teams whilst undertaking their National Service.
Eleni Glouftsis is an Australian rules football field umpire in the Australian Football League (AFL). As of 27 June 2020, she has umpired in 31 AFL matches. She is notable as the first female field umpire to officiate in a match sanctioned by the AFL, which occurred in the 2016 NAB Challenge match between the Carlton Football Club and Essendon Football Club, played on 28 February 2016 at Princes Park. Glouftsis became the first woman to be appointed field umpire for an AFL home-and-away match, when she was selected to officiate the and match in round 9 of the 2017 AFL season.
In 2011, he was added to the England and Wales Cricket Board list of reserve umpires, alongside the late Russell Evans and Billy Taylor. Along with Rob Bailey, he was one of the two onfield umpires for the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge match played at Lord's on 31 May 2018. The next month, he stood in his first One Day International (ODI) match, between England and Australia, at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on 16 June 2018. In October 2019, he was appointed as one of the twelve umpires to officiate matches in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
Many predicted the Bulldogs to struggle in 2015 after losing over 700 games of experience during the off-season, and those feelings were further strengthened when Tom Liberatore, the reigning Charles Sutton Medallist, went down with a rupture to his anterior cruciate ligament in the NAB Challenge match against Richmond. However, the Bulldogs exceeded expectations to finish the home-and-away season in sixth position to feature in the finals for the first time since 2010. In the elimination final, they lost to Adelaide by 7 points in front of over 60,000 fans at the MCG, the largest crowd at any Bulldogs game since the 2010 finals.
Organized principally by Norman Bach, an accountant and bridge player from Bermuda who played for Britain,Bach won the Gold Cup for Great Britain in 1938 and was playing captain of the British team in the European Championships in 1938 and 1939. See The Official Encyclopedia of Bridge, 6th edition, page 605. the Bermuda Bowl was the first world championship event held after World War II, and started as a competition between the US, Europe and Britain in 1950. The first event was won by the US. After this, the Bermuda Bowl became a yearly challenge match between the US and the European champions.
Founded in 1978 by the Benson & Hedges tobacco company as the Republic of Ireland's major snooker event, the Irish Masters originated as a snooker challenge match and became an elimination tournament. The 2002 competition was the 25th edition of the competition, and the fourth and final World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) invitational event of the 2001–02 season. As an invitational event, it did not carry world ranking points. It featured a 12-player main draw held at the Citywest Hotel in Saggart, Dublin, from 19 to 24 March, and was co-sponsored by the hotel group Citywest and the Department of Health and Children.
She also is unique in having completed a boxed set before the start of the open era in 1968 and a separate boxed set after the start of the open era. Court lost a heavily publicised and US–televised challenge match to a former world No. 1 male tennis player, the 55-year-old Bobby Riggs, on 13 May 1973, in Ramona, California. Court was the top-ranked women's player at the time, and it has been reported that she did not take the match seriously because it was a mere exhibition. Using a mixture of lobs and drop shots, Riggs beat her 6–2, 6–1.
To that end, the twelve members created a system it called the Official System. Culbertson engaged in a war of words against the Bridge Headquarters, culminating in a 1931-1932 challenge match, the so-called "Bridge Battle of the Century", Culbertson and partners against Bridge Headquarters member Sidney Lenz and partners. Lenz lost, and the Official System was eventually superseded by other systems. However, Milton Work's point-count system, an important component of the Official System (and which stood in contrast to Culbertson's more cumbersome honor-count system), constituted the basis of Charles Goren's system which became by far the most popular system for the second half of the 20th century.
The result of this was the addition of Edge to the match while it was in progress, and ultimately Edge would go on to pin Triple H and win the title. Continuing his pursuit of the WWE Championship, Kozlov competed in and was unsuccessful in winning a Beat the Clock Challenge match against ECW Champion Matt Hardy for another title shot. This led to the two meeting at Armageddon, where Kozlov gained his first pay-per-view win by defeating Hardy in a non-title match. Kozlov competed in the 2009 Royal Rumble match, entering as the sixth participant, but was eliminated by Triple H after eliminating The Great Khali, Carlito, and Montel Vontavious Porter.
The world's first international football match was a challenge match played in Glasgow in 1872 between Scotland and England, which ended in a 0–0 draw. The first international tournament, the inaugural British Home Championship, took place in 1884. As football grew in popularity in other parts of the world at the start of the 20th century, it was held as a demonstration sport with no medals awarded at the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics (however, the International Olympic Committee has retroactively upgraded their status to official events), and at the 1906 Intercalated Games. After FIFA was founded in 1904, it tried to arrange an international football tournament between nations outside the Olympic framework in Switzerland in 1906.
Surprise of the quarter-final stage was Down’s 2-6 to 1-8 victory over Wexford, Marian McGarvey scoring 1-6 of their total. Before their quarter- final with Dublin, Cork dropped three Killeavy players, Pat Moloney, Marian Sweeney and Cathy Landers for playing in a challenge match on the eve of the League final. Dublin led by 4-2 to 1-5 at half time but Cork came storming back to equalise 11 minutes into the second half and win by five points, as Dublin sent over a total of eight wide in the second half and scored just one point. Angela Downey scored 3-4 for Kilkenny against Tipperary, for whom Deirdre Lane scored 1-5.
A notable spot in the match was Meeske being thrown out of the ring and landing on a reporter. In January 1924 Meeske and McMurdo were scheduled to wrestle again but McMurdo was injured causing the match to be canceled. In February Meeske wrestled Charles Honroth instead in a match which Meeske won, but was criticized for being slow paced. Meeske then accused Weber of avoiding a match against him, and reiterated that he felt he had only lost due to his leg injury. In March 1924 Meeske was scheduled to fight Peter Fatouras, a Greek wrestler, in his debut in a challenge match in which he had to throw Fatouras out of the ring twice.
After the retirement of Gene Miles, the captaincy role fell onto half-back Allan Langer for the 1992 season. Despite failing to make the finals the previous season, the Broncos were at the top of the ladder for most of this year's competition, losing just four matches to gain their first minor premiership with a 6-point buffer over second placed St George Dragons. In their first Grand Final appearance the Broncos comprehensively defeated the Dragons 28-8 at the Sydney Football Stadium and finally the Winfield Cup was transported to Queensland for the first time. A month later, the Broncos played in the 1992 World Club Challenge match against dominant British champions Wigan.
Expecting Kimura's troupe to attract Gracie's interest for a challenge match, Yano and his partner Yasuichi Ono helped Mizuno to bring them to Brazil. When the troupe arrived to São Paulo, Kimura was bestowed with the fictitious title of "world's jiu-jitsu champion" by the Brazilian press, which saw it as an opportunity to draw attention. The newspapers also hailed the three judokas as legitimate black belts in the art of jiu-jitsu while deriding the Gracie brothers as fake black belts. As expected, Hélio Gracie challenged the alleged champion to a match, though demanding Kimura to fight Gracie's apprentice Pedro Hemeterio first in order to prove he was a true champion.
By 1991, Frear was back on the indy circuit and found success in several promotions, most notably, Gordon Scozzari's American Wrestling Federation, the Wrestling Independent Network and the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation. On July 11, 1992, he entered a championship tournament in Pasadena, Maryland, for the vacant MEWF Heavyweight Championship and lost to Max Thrasher in the finals. Later that year, he wrestled "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert in a special "challenge match" at an MEWF show in Hampstead, Maryland, on November 21, 1992. The event was to raise money for the North Carroll High School, the show taking place in the school's gymnasium, with the proceeds going to purchase computer software for its business department.
In the tournament he did extremely well, twice scoring three tries in one match against Wales and briefly moving to lock forward - a move that foreshadowed his post-Eastern Suburbs career. During the 1976 NSWRFL season, Schubert played at as a for Eastern Suburbs in their unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against British champions St. Helens in Sydney. The following years saw Schubert fail to maintain the form of his debut season. However, his pace out wide was still good enough for him to be selected for the 1978 Kangaroo tour, on which he played ten matches but could not displace the incomparable Eadie from his Test place, nor even Chris Anderson from his wing berth.
A ruckman who was at times used as a key position player, he had a two-season stint at Carlton, beginning in 1923, which impressed the state selectors enough to see him represent the VFL. When Pringle resumed playing at Cananore in 1925 it was as captain-coach and he promptly steered them to three successive premierships. To highlight the strength of this Cananore side, they played a challenge match in 1925 against South Australian Football League club Port Adelaide and won by 178 points. He played his last TFL season in 1928 and then retired, having represented Tasmania in six interstate matches, most recent of which was the 1927 Melbourne Carnival.
He played in the NSWRFL Premiership for the Eastern Suburbs Roosters from 1966–71 and 1973–79, and the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 1972. Reilly was also known as 'The Axe’ because of his defensive technique, which it was said allowed him to chop down opposition attackers like an axe. Reilly was a member of the Eastern Suburbs premiership-winning sides in 1974 and 1975. During the 1976 NSWRFL season, Reilly played as a prop forward for Eastern Suburbs in their unofficial 1976 World Club Challenge match against British champions St. Helens in Sydney. Also a backrower, Reilly played almost 200 matches for the Roosters and was named as a bench player in that club's ’Team Of The Century’.
Immediately after this match Mayo resigned from the Chipstead Club, despite having served just 8 months of a 5-year contract, and took up a position at the newly opened Burhill Golf Club, Walton-on-Thames. In 1908, Mayo was paired with George Duncan and won a challenge match against Harry Vardon and Ted Ray. Mayo was demobilised in 1919 and returned to Burhill after serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War I. After the war he quickly regained good playing form and was entered in the St Annes Old Links Tournament where he was joint leader after the first day but faded on the second day to finish joint 5th, three strokes behind J.H. Taylor.
John McMaster (4 January 1893 – 27 December 1954) was a Scottish footballer who played for Celtic and Queen of the South, as a left half or centre half. He won the Scottish Football League title with Celtic in the 1913–14, 1914–15, 1915–16 and 1921–22 seasons, the Scottish Cup in 1914, two Glasgow Cups and three Charity Cups. He also fought in World War I serving with the Royal Army Service Corps, and was wounded in France in 1918. He was selected for the British Army football team in a 1917 fundraising match, and had played in the Glasgow FA's annual challenge match against Sheffield in 1914, but received no further representative honours.
Morné Nico van Wyk (born 20 March 1979) is a right-handed South African cricketer who has played in 17 One Day Internationals for the Proteas. In her first title defense, on the May 22 episode of Impact Wrestling, Love defeated Brittany in an open-challenge match. After the match, Love and Sky would attack Brittany and Gail Kim would make the save. This led to a tag team match, where The Beautiful People defeated Kim and Brittany on the edition of May 29 of Impact Wrestling. Love and Kim would finally face off in a title match on June 15 at the Slammiversary pay-per-view, where Love would successfully defend her championship. On June 20, during the tapings of the July 3 episode of Impact Wrestling, Love lost the Women's Knockout Championship to Kim, ending her reign at only 67 days.
Motsugai died in 1867, after which his school moved its influence field to Okayama. The school rose to fame again in 1891, when its headmaster Mataemon Tanabe defeated the Kodokan judoka Takisaburo Tobari in a challenge match. At the time, most jujutsu schools in Tokyo were losing place to the growing Kodokan, and the victory was shocking not only for coming from one of them, but also for how easily it happened thanks to Tanabe's personal advantage at newaza. The victory was followed by many others, and Tanabe capitalized on them to promote himself and his style by claiming his wins demonstrated the superiority of Fusen-ryū over judo and not any skill on his part.

As Wigan developed into one of the most famous rugby league clubs in the world, Central Park also became one of the most famous grounds. Wigan won the 1987 World Club Challenge match against 1987 Sydney (New South Wales Rugby League) Premiers Manly-Warringah at Central Park played on 7 October. Jock Stein Friendship Cup is an exhibition football match held in Cliftonhill Stadium, Coatbridge, Scotland. This competition was started to recognise the contribution of Jock Stein to both contestants, Albion Rovers and Celtic Stein began his senior footballing career with Albion Rovers in 1942, and in the 1950s played for several years with Celtic, captaining the side to a league & cup double in 1954. He is of course most famous for his managerial career later on at Celtic. While the principal aim of the Jock Stein Friendship Cup is to honour Stein's memory, the annual challenge match is also one of several initiatives aimed at raising awareness of Albion Rovers in the club's home town of Coatbridge.

In 1975, the competition underwent a radical overhaul. It was decided to play matches on a home and away basis around the world instead of one host nation and the Great Britain team was split into England and Wales meaning that the tournament would be increased from the 4 teams of previous tournaments to 5, this number also taking part in the two future internationally held tournaments. There was not a final held to decide the champions of the 1975 tournament and so Australia won by virtue of topping the group standings. As Australia had not beaten England in that tournament a 'final challenge match' was hastily arranged which Australia would win 25-0.
Christopher Daniels won the Ultimate X Challenge match to become the new TNA X Division Champion at Destination X. Abyss fought Jeff Hardy in a Falls Count Anywhere match next, lasting 15 minutes and 48 seconds. Midway through the match, Hardy placed Abyss on two wooden tables, climbed up to the rafters ten feet above, then performed a somersault onto Abyss through both tables. Hardy claimed victory in the contest after slamming Abyss into a ladder by using his signature maneuver the Twist of Fate. After the contest, Abyss attacked Hardy, covered the ring in thumbtacks, and used his signature maneuver the Black Hole Slam to drive Hardy into the tacks back first.
The first governing body of the game, the Billiards Association, was formed in the UK in 1885, a period that saw a number of sporting bodies founded across the British sporting world. By the mid-20th century, the principal sanctioning body was the Billiards Association and Control Council (later the Billiards and Snooker Control Council), formed in 1919 by an amalgamation of the Billiards Association and the Billiards Control Club (founded in 1908). In the 19th century and up through the mid-1950s, a common way for championship titles to change hands was by a challenge match. A challenge was issued to a championship title holder accompanied by money ("acclamation") held by a third party.
On 13 February 2015, Johnston played on the wing for the Indigenous All Stars against the NRL All Stars in the 2015 All Stars match at Cbus Super Stadium, the Indigenous side winning 20-6. On 23 February, he played for the Rabbitohs in the 2015 World Club Challenge match against 2014 Super League Grand Final premiers St. Helens, playing on the wing in the Rabbitohs' 39-0 win at Langtree Park. For the 2015 Anzac Test, he was selected to make his debut for Australia against New Zealand, playing on the wing in the Kangaroos' 12-26 loss at Suncorp Stadium. On 13 May, he re-signed with South Sydney on a 2-year contract to the end of the 2017 season.
By 1961 and for a few years prior, there was no longer an organized world three-cushion championship. Accordingly, Harold Worst, the reigning champion since 1954, issued a challenge match to Katsura to defend his title, with the match to take place March 13–18 of that year at the Pantlind Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for a purse of $2,000. The preceding year Worst had issued a similar title-defending challenge to Joe Chamaco of Mexico, which also took place in Grand Rapids at the same venue. Worst even took unsuccessful legal action to block an Argentinian three-cushion tournament, billed as a "world title" event, that was scheduled to overlap the dates of his title match with Katsura.
As 2008 NRL premiers, the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles started their new season with the 2009 World Club Challenge match in England against Super League's 2008 champions, the Leeds Rhinos. They defeated the Rhinos 28 - 20, putting an end to England club football's 5-year hold on the World Club Challenge trophy before preparing for the start of the 2009 NRL season. Sea Eagles star player Brett Stewart was accused of a sexual assault with a 17-year-old girl, this coming the same day after Manly's infamous season launch on 6 March, where it was believed Stewart got drunk. The NRL suspended Stewart until Round 5 of the competition, but he was still allowed to train with the club.
In 2014 Sri Lanka lost all four of its matches in the Asian Five Nations and were relegated back to Division One. At the 2015 Division tournament held in the Philippines in May, Sri Lanka beat the Philippines 27-14 to become the champions of the Asian Division 1, resulting in the team qualifying to compete in a challenge match, in June, against the third ranked Asian team and a potential spot in the 2016 Asian Championship. Due to financial reasons, the challenge game was cancelled with South Korea remaining in the tri-nations division and Sri Lanka in the Division 1 competition for 2016. In 2016 Sri Lanka finished second at the Division tournament held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in May.

Jennings became the first player in World Club Challenge history to score three tries as the Australian premiers won 36-14 at SFS. Jennings scored the first try in the 2014 NRL season in the Roosters 28-8 loss to the South Sydney Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium. In Round 2 against the Parramatta Eels, Jennings played his 150th NRL career match in the Roosters 56-4 smashing win at SFS. Jennings was selected for NSW in Game 1 of the 2014 State of Origin series in the 100th State of Origin Match in the 12-8 win at Suncorp Stadium.
On October 20, 1917, Miyake had a famous challenge match against professional wrestler and catch wrestling practitioner Ad Santel. In 1928 Miyake returned to Japan and toured there with three other wrestlers, but professional wrestling was not popular in Japan back then and the shows did not sell tickets.
In early 1964, Rosewall finished third behind Hoad and Laver in a 4-man 24-match tour of New Zealand. In 1964 Rosewall won one major pro tournament: the French Pro over Laver on an indoor wood surface (at Coubertin). At the end of the South African tour, Rosewall also beat Laver in three straight sets in a Challenge Match considered by some as a World Championship match, on cement, held in Ellis Park, Johannesburg. In the official pro points rankings (7 points for the winner, 4 points for the finalist, 3 points for third, 2 for fourth place and 1 point to each quarterfinalist), Rosewall ended No. 1 in 1964 ahead of No. 2 Laver and No. 3 Gonzales.
They would be more successful at the Yamaha Cup 2004tag team tournament, with Mini Cima and Suwacito defeating Manabu Murakami and Naoki Tanizaki in the first round and the Sailor Boys in the second to crown themselves as winners. On September 9, 2003 the group competed in an elimination match for the UWA World Welterweight Championship, eliminating the team of Los Carros Exóticos (Gallardo, Lambo Miura and Murcielago) before falling short to Los Salseros Japoneses (Minamino, Pineapple Hanai and Mango Fukuda). This was the Toryumon X final event, with the promotion folding shortly after. Mini Crazy Max had its last reunion in the special event Dragon Fire The Final Challenge on October 14, where they competed in another special challenge match.
The second challenge match was played over the Canyons course at Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert, California on August 28, 2000 between Tiger Woods and Sergio García, who had made the headlines when finishing as runner-up to Woods at the 1999 PGA Championship. As with the previous year, the match was contested over 18 holes in matchplay format, with the winner collecting $1,100,000 and the runner-up $400,000. The Battle at Bighorn, as it was titled, was won by García 1up, and as in 1999, both players donated a portion of their winnings to charity. The match was an even bigger ratings success than the inaugural event, drawing a 7.6 Nielsen rating, which proved to be the highest in the series.
The centenary of the Football League was marked with numerous events between mid-1987 and 1988, as well as the above tournament. On September 22, 1924 Willie Hoppe, the world's balkline champion (who later took up three-cushion with a passion), and Ralph Greenleaf, the world's straight pool title holder, played a well advertised, multi-day to 600 . Hoppe was the eventual winner with a final score of 600–527. He played on the wing in Manly's 28–20 win over the Leeds Rhinos at Elland Road in the 2009 World Club Challenge match on 1 March.
The 2015 World Snooker Championship was held between 18 April and 4 May 2015 in Sheffield, England. The tournament was the last of 11 rankings events in the 2014-15 snooker season on the World Snooker Tour. It featured a 32-player main draw that took place at the Crucible Theatre, as well as a 128-player qualifying draw that was played at the 8 and 15 April 2015 at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, finishing three days before the start of the main draw. This was the 39th consecutive year that the tournament had been held at the Crucible, and it was the 47th successive world championship to be contested through the knockout format after reverting from a challenge match system in the 1960s.
The minor premier was Norwood, which finished two games clear on top of the ladder with a 10–2 record; however, the club's major round performance was mediocre, finishing fourth with a record of 3–3. Conversely, Port Adelaide, who had finished fourth in the minor rounds with a 6–6 record, was the undefeated winner of the major round. If the major round had been counted as part of the minor round, then Norwood would have been minor premiers with a 13–5 record, while Port Adelaide would have finished second: both they and North Adelaide finished 12–6, but Port Adelaide had a superior percentage. Norwood then defeated Port Adelaide by four points in the first challenge match to win the club's twelfth premiership.
Equal exchanges of pieces are less common than in chess, so it is rare for a game of Arimaa to "trade down" and still be unclear. On September 4, Super Crazy made his Raw debut match and defeated Chris Masters using his trademark moonsault. Crazy continued his feud with Masters throughout September, defeated him once more and competing with Masters, along with four other wrestlers (Johnny Nitro, Carlito, Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton) in a Six-Pack Challenge Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the September 18 edition of Raw, which neither Masters or Crazy were able to win. Crazy was then involved in angles with Nitro and Melina, during which he was aligned with Mickie James, who was feuding with Melina at the time. Super Crazy suffered an injury to his left knee at a house show which occurred on April 21, 2007 in Oberhausen, Germany.
In the early years, a number of cups were awarded to clubs who won the premiership, including the "Dixson Cup" and the "Farley Cup" Prior to 1931, premierships were either awarded to the team leading the ladder or who won a final. If the top team lost the final, then they had the right to call for a challenge match to be played the following week to determine the premiership. In 1931 the system changed to the Page finals system where the top two teams play in the second semi final, with the loser having a second chance and the winner progressing straight to the Grand Final. The winner of the third and fourth placed teams who played in the first semi final play the loser of the second semi final in the preliminary final.

During the 1990–91 season that followed, all Blackhawks games were played away since the newly built Blackburn Arena had not yet been completed. The first home game played on 26 January 1991, coincidentally also resulted in a 6–3 victory against Oxford. The first goal scored at the Arena was by the Blackhawks' Dan Holden, an offensive defenceman who accrued a total of 116 points over the course of the season.

The Outlaw was the first to bleed after Nash dropped him face first into an exposed turnbuckle, however the referee had been knocked unconscious, in storyline terms, and did not see this occur. As Nash tried to revive the referee, Jeff Jarrett ran down to ringside and bashed Nash in the face with the NWA World Heavyweight Championship belt, causing him to bleed. When the referee awoke, he saw Nash was bleeding and gave the victory to The Outlaw, who had been aided by Jarrett's lawyer Dirk Diggler and a doctor in wiping away the blood on his face. An Ultimate X match was held, promoted as an Ultimate X Challenge match, for the TNA X Division Championship, in which then-champion A.J. Styles defended the title against Christopher Daniels, Elix Skipper, and Ron Killings.

Educated at Magdalen College School in Oxford, he played Minor Counties cricket for Oxfordshire from 1959, and he took four Somerset wickets in the 1961 Minor Counties Championship challenge match, which was won by Somerset's second eleven. The following season, 1962, he joined Somerset, playing mostly second eleven cricket for the next four summers after the end of the university term, and appearing only twice in the county's first team. The bulk of Martin's first-class cricket was played for Oxford University. He was a freshman undergraduate at St Edmund Hall in 1962 and opened the bowling in the first match of the season against Gloucestershire: Martin Young and Ron Nicholls put on 395 for the first wicket for Gloucestershire, still the highest first-class partnership for any wicket for the county, though Martin did have Young caught behind the wicket.

Doorey started his career in Australia, appearing sporadically for Manly- Warringah and Eastern Suburbs between 1990 and 1993. He moved to England in 1994 to play for Keighley Cougars where he played close to 100 games over 4 seasons including being Centenary player of the year and being part of the squad winning the 2nd division trophy in 1995. In 1997, Doorey moved to France to become a player-coach at Villeneuve, where he won the Treize Tournoi in 1998, and a European Challenge match against a Northern Ford Premiership XIII in 1999. Doorey was elected Coach of the year by the FFRX111 3 times in his 4 yrs in France after leading Villeneuve as head Coach to 7 titles in 4 years including the triple Cup Euro Cup and Championship in 1998, and 2 other occasions Cup and Championship winners.
The initial format was a challenge match between Melbourne and Sydney, with the title retained by the holder in the case of a draw (as in 1912 and 1919). As the competition gradually expanded with the addition of the other sandstone universities, it became a simple round-robin format with the winner being the team with the most points. In the case of multiple teams being tied on points, they would share the premiership, but the Syme Cup was still awarded on a challenge basis; If the holder was one of the joint-winners they would retain the cup, otherwise each of the winners would share custody of it over the year. After a three-way tie in 1936, it was decided that goal average would be taken into account in determining the winner of the Syme Cup.
The Singh Brothers helped Jinder Mahal to retain the WWE Championship during his reign On the April 18, 2017 episode of SmackDown Live, they made their main roster debut as The Singh Brothers; Gurv was renamed Sunil Singh, while Harv was renamed Samir Singh. They interfered in a six-pack challenge match to determine the number one contender for Randy Orton's WWE Championship at Backlash, helping Jinder Mahal win the match, turning heel in the process. They also interfered in Orton's House of Horrors match against Bray Wyatt at Payback, distracting Orton long enough for Mahal to attack him with the stolen WWE Championship, allowing Wyatt to take advantage and defeat Orton with a Sister Abigail. At Backlash, the Singh Brothers were at ringside for Mahal, ultimately helping him defeat Randy Orton and capturing his first WWE Championship.
The Admirals first game was in December 2002. In a rain soaked game the Admirals lost 28-18 to the Dublin Rebels in an 8-a-side challenge match. Despite the loss the performance held encouraging signs for the team, and increased enthusiasm in the club. The team stepped up to 11-a-side for the next two friendly matches. Unfortunately both games resulted in defeat for the Admirals, going down 26-12 to the Dublin Rebels and 8-0 to the Dublin Dragons. In the 2003 season, the club's first season of IAFL league play, the team managed only a 1-5 record. The first victory came in the spring of 2003, defeating the UL Vikings in an 8-a-side contest. The club would get its first 11-a-side victories against the same side that winter in two challenge games.
The Swedish Pro Tennis Championships were created in Gothenburg, Sweden, as part of the 1972 WCT circuit, as one of the four non-American events of the tour, with the Canada International of Essen, Germany, and the Rotterdam Indoors of Rotterdam, Netherlands. The first tournament in 1972 (which field included a sixteen-year-old Björn Borg), saw the victory of eventual WCT year-end No. 1 John Newcombe, and the second, of 1973's Group A leader Stan Smith. Like many events of the WCT, the Swedish Pro was quickly discontinued as the circuit was searching for new locations to improve its list of tournaments. Gothenburg continued to host Sweden's national championships, as well as Davis Cup ties, and several exhibitions, like the 1976-Rod Laver/Björn Borg challenge match, but the city's international tennis tournament was never revived.
Founded in 1978 by the Benson & Hedges tobacco brand as the Republic of Ireland's major snooker event, the Irish Masters originated as a snooker challenge match before it became an elimination tournament. The 2001 competition was its 24th staging, and the last of the five World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association invitational events in the 2000–01 snooker season. it featured a 12-player draw that occurred at the Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Dublin, between 27 March and 1 April 2001. The tournament was co- sponsored by the Health Promotion Unit and the Office of Tobacco Control of the Department of Health and Children and hotel group Citywest following the withdrawal of Benson & Hedges as a title sponsor, as a result of Micheál Martin, the Irish Health Minister, introducing a ban of tobacco advertising and sponsorship in Ireland in September 2000.
No official competitions existed in 1990, however GB defeated the Dutch in Amsterdam 1–0 in a challenge match. In 1991, Team GB took part in the 1991 European Championship finishing 9th out of 10 teams. Placed in a very tough Group B, they lost their first three games to Sweden (0–16), Denmark (0–4) and Germany (0–6) before surprising the Czech Republic with a 2–2 draw in their final game. Football was played locally in and around Shepparton from the early 1880s, it was not until the formation of Goulburn Valley District Football Association in 1894 that a coherent competitive framework for the sport emerged. Shepparton was one of six founder members of the GVDFA. It won its first flag in 1899, followed by another four years later, and then from 1906 until the competition went into recess because of world war one it established a veritable premiership dynasty, going top no fewer than six times in nine seasons. From 1911 until early in the 1913 season in particular, Shepparton was widely regarded, and indeed often described in the local press, as ‘invincible’. Another featured match was a tag team "challenge match" in which the team of Tim Horner and Cody Michaels defeated the team Buddy Landel and Terry Taylor.

While promoting SCW, Mosorjak and The Brotherhood also toured the Southern independent circuit with many of his wrestlers, most especially Major DeBeers, have won titles in most of the promotions they visited. At its height, The Brotherhood consisted of Major DeBeers, Boris Dragoff, "Beastmaster" Rick Link, "Ragin' Bull" Manny Fernandez, K.C. Thunder and Frank "The Tank" Parker. By the end of the decade, the group had appeared in every major independent organization in North Carolina as well as in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York. It was during this time that Mosorjak engaged in a long-running feud with "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant which set attendance records in historic wrestling towns such as Fall Branch, Tennessee to Butner, North Carolina. On at least one occasion, Valiant managed to get his hands on Mosorjak during a Southern States Wrestling show, on December 9, 1995, defeating him in a "5-minute challenge" match.

Scotland’s Senior Women played their Shinty/Camogie challenge match against Dublin at the Bught Park prior to the Senior International. The final score was Scotland 4 – 1 (13) Dublin 0 – 2 (2). Scotland defeated their Irish counterparts to win the Marine Harvest Under 21 Shinty / Hurling International trophy in a match played on 3 November at Abbotstown, the GAA’s National Development Centre in Dublin. The score was Ireland 2 – 7 (13) Scotland 6 – 7 (25).

The World Snooker Championship was revived in 1964 with a match between 40-year-old John Pulman and 50-year-old Fred Davis. It was a best-of-37 match, played over three days from 20 to 22 April at Burroughes Hall in London, England. Davis had won the official championship three times and the World Professional Match-play Championship five times. He had not taken part in the last championship in 1957, which Pulman had won. Pulman took an early 4–2 lead, but Davis was ahead 7–5 at the end of the first day and maintained his two-frame advantage after the second day, leading 13–11. Davis made a break of 108 on the afternoon of the final day, but Pulman won four of the six frames in the session to level the match at 15–15. He then won the first three frames of the evening session to lead 18–15 and, although Davis won the next frame, Pulman took the fifth to win the title 19–16. Six months after winning the first challenge match, John Pulman was challenged by organiser Rex Williams in another match held at Burroughes Hall.

Before the 1958 Championship, Derry played in the inaugural Wembley Tournament (an exhibition competition to allow Irish emigrants in England a chance to see Gaelic football) in Wembley Stadium in London, England.
