Road next to Amiantos mine Pano Amiantos (, ) is a village in the Limassol District of Cyprus, located 7 km southwest of Kyperounta. Formerly the village was the site of a large asbestos mine. When the mine closed the enormous workings were left as a blot on the landscape of the Troodos. There is now a project under way for the replanting of the workings which should eventually restore the landscape to its former beauty, if not its former shape.

In May 2012, the station was described by local MP Peter Aldous as a "blot on the landscape" and a "pale shadow of its former self". He called for its refurbishment to be included as part of the next Greater Anglia franchise. In early 2013, work began on redeveloping the exterior of the station with £1 million of funding from Suffolk County Council. There are also a number of abandoned villages and buildings that are considered to be of historical importance and so remain as they have been left. Good examples of this are the deserted mining villages around Rodalquilar. Although the villages or "ghost towns" and the former gold mines are a blot on the landscape, they are a big attraction and there have even been concerts hosted at the site of a former gold mine.

In 2007 the massive chimney at Bellacorick was demolished for safety reasons. Even those who would have been opposed to the fossil-fuel burning power station on environmental and greenhouse gas grounds were sad to see the chimney demolished as it had become a well-known landmark for those returning home to Erris. Unfortunately, although the visually attractive chimney has been removed, the visually offensive derelict sixties-style block buildings, several storeys in height, are still standing, ungraciously draped with green netting, as a blot on the landscape. As a result, it is difficult to get a decent view of the white windmills of the windfarm at the site.

The polytunnels have been a major issue in the county, as some people see them as a "blot on the landscape". Although some polytunnel sites are illegal, Herefordshire Council has turned a blind eye in the belief that agriculture must be allowed to innovate; otherwise it will stagnate and the county will suffer.
