At age six, Jason Tom recorded his cover rendition of Michael Jackson's "Badder" on music cassette tape after he watched Moonwalker at Liholiho Elementary, and at family gatherings. He combined scat singing with an urban beatboxing technique known as an inward K snare drum. Although Jason attempted to play a toy piano, an ukulele and tuba, he used beatboxing and other vocalizing as his primary musical instrument. He continued to hone his beatboxing skill through his years at Kauluwela Elementary, Prince David Kawananakoa Middle, and President William McKinley High School.

An option to lease an inflatable habitat module from private industry was included in the bill. Since that time, the private company Bigelow Aerospace has purchased the rights to the patents developed by NASA and is pursuing a similar scheme for a private space station design. The company has launched the Genesis I, Genesis II, and BEAM pathfinder spacecraft, with plans for additional experimental craft culminating in their BA 330 production model and the Bigelow Commercial Space Station. David Badder, in Monthly Film Bulletin, was of the opinion that even if the film had been truncated, it would not improve its quality. He described Sorcerer as "remarkably lacklustre", and did not appreciate the unstable tone of the movie which he called "impenetrably obscure". Additionally, he considered Scheider's role to be severely underdeveloped and "consist[ing] of meaningful stares off camera and mournful grimaces." On the other hand, Sorcerer garnered some acclaim from several major critics, including the Chicago Sun-Times's Roger Ebert, The New York Times's chief film critic Vincent Canby, and Jack Kroll of Newsweek fame.

In a contemporary review, David Badder (Monthly Film Bulletin) stated that the film had characters that eschewed "any believable motivation", that "deadly dull sex scenes irritatingly tricked out with arty-crafty camera work, almost guaranteed to send the bulk of his frustrated audience into a deep sleep" and that the film was "burdened with a crushingly pretentious score". The review negatively compared D'Amato's work to that of Italian genre filmmakers Dario Argento and Riccardo Freda, stating that he had "none of [their] inspirational touches". In his 1999 book on the film's director Joe D'Amato, Antonio Tentori found that it skilfully combined eros and horror.

In the mid 1990s, Nike became known for several major ambush marketing schemes at the Olympics and association football tournaments. At the 1996 Summer Olympics, Nike engaged in a marketing campaign to compete with official sponsor Reebok, including magazine ads and billboards. Consistent with its aggressively-toned marketing of the time, its campaign featured slogans parodying those of the Olympics and attacking its values, including "Faster, Higher, Stronger, Badder", "You don't win Silver, you lose Gold", and "If you're not here to win, you're a tourist." By his own account, he was working at the world famous Dolphin's of Hollywood record store in Los Angeles, California in 1970 when he began hearing obscene stories of "Dolemite" recounted by a local man named Rico. Moore recorded a number of street poets, including Big Brown who, before he moved to Los Angeles, had been an influence on Bob Dylan, among other artists, while living in Greenwich Village. (Dylan said Brown's poetry was the best poetry he had ever heard.) In 1973, Moore produced Brown's album, The First Man of Poetry, Big Brown: Between Heaven and Hell. According to Moore, there was a wino named Rico, and Moore heard him on the street corner doing all these raps and rhymes:Interview with Moore on DVD "The Legend of Dolemite: Bigger and Badder" Moore began recording the stories, and assumed the role of "Dolemite" in his club act and on recordings.
