On 5 November 2006, in a league encounter with Tottenham Hotspur, Makélélé scored his second goal for the club, a difficult curling volley from the edge of the 18-yard box which sped past goalkeeper Paul Robinson into the left-hand side of the goal to cue a bench-clearing celebration. Although Tottenham sprang a comeback to beat Chelsea 2–1, this goal got him the best shot to goals percentage that year with one shot and one goal – 100%. On 5 December 2006, in a League Cup game against Newcastle United, Makélélé wore the captain's armband in John Terry's absence and with Frank Lampard rested. He was substituted at half-time for Lampard.

He displayed indifferent form in the 2004–05 season and was linked with a move away from Manchester, with Newcastle United and Liverpool being linked with the Irishman. One of the highlights of Manchester United's otherwise slightly disappointing season was the 4–2 away victory against Arsenal, in which O'Shea scored the fourth goal by chipping Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia from the edge of the 18-yard box. An injury to Gary Neville in the 2005–06 season also gave O'Shea more first-team opportunities. He was criticised for his lacklustre performances that season, and was reportedly one of the players lambasted by United veteran Roy Keane in a controversial interview on the club's MUTV channel.

As the players took the field for the second half, D.C. coach Tom Soehn decided to replace Fred, who had been a non- factor in the first half, with Santino Quaranta. In the 60th minute, Gomez, Pontius and Luciano Emilio combined inside Seattle's 18-yard box for a United opportunity, but Pontius mishit the shot, which resulted in an easy save for Seattle's goalkeeper, Kasey Keller. Seven minutes later, another failed D.C. United opportunity resulted in a Sounders FC counterattack, where Freddie Ljungberg's shot was saved by Wicks. The rebound rolled in front of Fredy Montero, who dove feet first and kicked the ball into the goal, giving Sounders FC a 1–0 lead.

The first goal was a sensational run down the line from Luis Suárez and he crossed it in where then Michael Essien would score an own goal. Soon after, a ball played back from Ivanović to John Terry faulted as Terry fell and Jordan Henderson ran onto it and scored it with his dominate foot with a great finish. Four minutes later a far post corner from central midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was headed by Andy Carroll to Daniel Agger and resulted in a 3–0 lead over Chelsea after the first half. Within the second half Chelsea scored off of a Florent Malouda set piece outside the 18-yard box and chested in from Brazilian international Ramires.

The Cougars opened the season at home, hosting the Northern Illinois Huskies, who played a very physical game, with the visitors from the Mid-American Conference racking up 14 fouls and 3 yellow cards. In the 17th minute, the normally stingy SIUE defense turned over the ball on a straight giveaway that NIU's Molina took and passed to Voss, who fired a booming shot from 25 yards out that left Dal Santo no chance for a save, and the Huskies took a 1–0 lead that held through halftime. The Cougars returned from the break fired up and working hard for a shot. When the Huskies were called for a handball inside the 18 yard box in the 57th minute, Ledbetter stepped up and fired in the penalty shot to tie the score.

Jambga kept after the ball and took it away just inside the center of the 18 yard box, where he slipped a short pass to Gonzalez, who buried the ball in the net to knot the score 1–1. Less than two minutes later, the Zips had a corner kick. Although no foul was called, Da Santo looked to have been undercut and was falling to the ground as he weakly punched the ball away, sending it straight to an Akron player who headed it in, putting the home team back in the lead. The Cougars remained in strong contention until the 73rd minute. On another corner kick, Dal Santo punched the ball solidly but sent it straight to a Zip who fired a shot that a teammate redirected into the net for an insurance goal before the eventual Akron 3–1 win.

On 17 January 2016, Alex Sandro scored his first Juventus goal – and his first in Serie A – from the top of the 18-yard box in the 42nd minute of a 4–0 away win over Udinese. On 17 February, it was confirmed Alex Sandro would be sidelined for ten days after he picked up an injury to his rectus femoris muscle in his left thigh during training at the Juventus Center the day before, forcing him to miss out on the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League on 23 February against Bayern Munich. He returned for the second leg in Munich, where he could not prevent his team's elimination despite putting on a strong individual performance. The Brazilian completed his first season in Turin winning a Serie A–Coppa Italia double.

In the 37th minute, Jambga took the ball away, worked downfield and left through several defenders, cut right at the top of the 18 yard box, and slammed a hard, low shot just inside the post for the game's only goal on what would be the Cougars' only shot of the game. For the remainder of the game, MoSt attacked, SIUE turned the attack aside, and the two teams did the same all over again and again, even after the Bears went a man down when Dal Santo was fouled hard while covering a loose ball in the box. The win gave the Cougars their second MVC Tournament title and automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament in three years. They would take their trophy and their twelve- game unbeaten streak home to wait to see who they would face in the NCAAs.

Hassli in action against Toronto FC in 2011 Manchester City in 2011 On 4 March 2011, Hassli signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer as the team's first designated player. Swiss media reported that Hassli was granted an early contract termination by FC Zürich, allowing him to leave on a free transfer to Vancouver. He made his debut for the Whitecaps on 19 March 2011, in a game against Toronto FC, scoring two of his team's four goals, one of which was the club's first goal in MLS competition.Hassli, Whitecaps pummel TFC in dynamite debut In the Whitecaps' 11 June 2011 match against the Seattle Sounders, Hassli scored two goals: the first from the penalty spot; the second a volley from an apparently harmless position on the right edge of the 18 yard box that flew into the top left hand corner.

Bergkamp was consoled with the PFA Players' Player of the Year award, becoming only the third non-British player to be recognised by his fellow professionals as the outstanding performer in English football. After an effective 1998 World Cup campaign with the national team, Bergkamp had another productive season in 1998–99. Although Arsenal failed to retain the Premier League after losing the title on the final day of the season to Manchester United, Bergkamp was the club's second-top scorer in all competitions, with 16 goals, and finished the season as the top assist provider in the Premier League, alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, with 13 assists. Arsenal were also defeated in a FA Cup semi-final replay against Manchester United in April 1999. However, when the position is inverted and a winger instead plays inside-out on the opposite flank (i.e., a right-footed player as a left inverted winger), they effectively become supporting strikers and primarily assume a role in the attack. As opposed to traditionally pulling the opponent's full-back out and down the flanks before crossing the ball in near the by-line, positioning a winger on the opposite side of the field allows him or her to cut-in around the 18-yard box, either threading passes between defenders or taking a shot on goal using his or her dominant foot. This offensive tactic has found popularity in the modern game due to the fact that it gives traditional wingers increased mobility as playmakers and goalscorers, such as the left-footed right winger Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo who achieved 30 career goals faster than any player in the past half-century of Serie A football.

In the ninth minute, a defender made an ill-advised and not-quite- accurate pass back to the goalkeeper that was quickly stolen and driven into the net to put the home side up 1–0. In the twelfth minute an SIUE free kick sailed past everyone and was taken by a Golden Eagle who carried it all the way down the right side before passing to teammates coming down the middle, and suddenly, the Cougars were down by two goals. Falling back into its more cautious mode, SIUE got one goal back when Vincent Jackson II sent a short pass near the penalty spot that Mathias Krigbaum then sent on into the net. The two teams cautiously felt each other out after half time until, in the 48th minute, the home team again gained a two-goal advantage. In the 53rd minute the Cougars were crowding the 18 yard box, when ORU committed a foul.

In Canada's opening match of the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, de Guzman scored twice to help defeat Costa Rica 2–1. After the conclusion of the competition, de Guzman was named tournament MVP. De Guzman was also chosen in the 23-man roster for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada won group A with seven points before being knocked out by Honduras in the quarter finals. He was later chosen in the all- tournament team along with fellow Canadian Michael Klukowski, this was the second time in a row he has been selected for this competition. On June 1, 2011, in a friendly against Ecuador in the last minutes of play Canada was down 2–1 when de Guzman played a clever yet controversial quick free kick just outside the 18 yard box to Tosaint Ricketts who put in the net for his first ever international goal leading the Canadian team to a well earned draw.

During the 2009 Copa Sudamericana First Stage, Mouche scored in Boca's first-leg 1–1 home draw against Vélez Sarsfield on 20 August.BOCA JUNIORS VS. VÉLEZ SARSFIELD 1 - 1 Boca would later lose 2–1 on aggregate and be eliminated from the competition. Mouche's first league appearance of the 2009–10 season came in a 2–2 home draw against Argentinos Juniors on 23 August.BOCA JUNIORS VS. ARGENTINOS JUNIORS 2 - 2 He scored his first goal of the season in a 2–1 home loss against Independiente on 5 December, Mouche was substituted onto the field in the 46th minute for Lucas Viatri and scored in the 55th minute.BOCA JUNIORS VS. INDEPENDIENTE 1 - 2 Mouche's second league goal came in a 3–2 away win against Independiente on 2 May, where Mouche scored Boca's third goal in the 87th minute when he dribbled just outside the 18–yard box from the right touch line before scoring with a left-footed shot.

Born in Bellshill, Murray broke into the St Mirren side under Tony Fitzpatrick towards the end of the 1996–97 season. The following season, he soon became an established member of the side. At the end of that season, St Mirren were flirting with relegation to Scottish Second Division (which would have been a financial disaster for the club). The team travelled to face fellow strugglers Stirling Albion and Murray netted a goal in the top corner to win the match. In the 1999–2000 season, Murray played a major part in the Scottish First Division championship win. One outstanding occasion was in the 8–0 drubbing of Clydebank, who were soon liquidated. Murray ran towards the edge of the 18-yard box to control the ball with his head. He not only did this, but managed to juggle the ball on his head past the defence, then stroke the ball past the keeper.

Despite the difficult events, Al Ahly players overcame all circumstances and achieved the 2012 CAF Champions League for the seventh time after they beat Esperance in the Final, After finishing the first leg 1–1 At the Borg El Arab Stadium Al Ahly was able to defeat Esperance in the second leg at the Stade Olympique de Radès 2–1, Gedo scored Al Ahly's opener from a shoot inside the 18 yard box before the half- time and Walid Soliman scored to make the score 2–0 in the 61st minute, Esperance's striker Yannick N'Djeng pulled a goal back to give Esperance fans hope again, Mohamed Aboutrika missed a penalty but Al Ahly held on to become African champions for a seventh time.

Mouche's first game of the 2008–09 season was in a 0–0 away draw against Argentinos Juniors on 17 September. Mouche entered the field for Ricardo Noir in the 74th minute and scored in the 79th minute when he dribbled into the 18–yard box from the left touch line and fired a left- footed shot.BANFIELD VS. BOCA JUNIORS 0 - 1 Mouche played in Boca's second-leg 2–1 home loss against Brazil's Internacional on 6 November. The result saw Boca Juniors eliminated from the tournament as Internacional had won 4–1 on aggregate.

OLIMPO VS. BOCA JUNIORS 1 - 1 In the first–leg of Boca's Copa Libertadores round of 16 match against Unión Española, Mouche entered the field for Dario Cvitanich in the 67th minute and assisted Santiago Silva in scoring the winning goal in the last moments of Boca's 2–1 home victory on 2 May. Mouche had received the ball to the left side of the 18–yard box from a Juan Roman Riquelme pass, mouche crossed the ball for Silva to head home the winner in the 89th minute.BOCA JUNIORS VS. UNIÓN ESPAÑOLA 2 - 1 On 6 May, opened the scoring in Boca's 2–2 away draw against Atlético de Rafaela, scoring in the 30th minute with a left-footed shot.ATLÉTICO RAFAELA VS. BOCA JUNIORS 2 - 2 In the second–leg of Boca's Copa Libertadores round of 16 match against Unión Española, Mouche scored Boca's second goal in the 50th minute and assisted Juan Roman Riquelme in scoring Boca's third goal in the 68th minute on 9 May. Santa Cruz then scored Paraguay's only goal in their 4–1 away loss against Brazil on 5 June 2005. Three days later, Santa Cruz scored his third goal of the qualification campaign in a 4–1 home victory against Bolivia in Asunción on 8 June 2005. In round 16 of the qualification campaign, Santa Cruz scored in the 14th minute of the 1–0 home victory against Argentina in Asunción on 3 September 2005. His four goals during the qualification campaign brought him to a tally of 13 international goals for Paraguay. Santa Cruz did not score his next international goal until two years later, Paraguay's only goal in their 2–1 away victory against Mexico at the Estadio Universitario in Monterrey on 25 March 2007. During the qualification campaign for the 2010 World Cup, Santa Cruz had scored three goals for Paraguay. On 15 June 2008, Santa Cruz scored Paraguay's first goal in their 2–0 home victory against Brazil in Asunción, hitting a far-post tap-in, side footing the ball into the net after receiving it from a corner.
